Re: Square Enix Wonders Why Life is Strange: Double Exposure Didn't Work Out

@ThomasHL
I actually only played through the first one and have seen bits and pieces of subsequent releases through other's playthroughs. I really enjoyed that first one...up until the ending, which felt like the devs were forcing me to pick one "correct" path and made me feel absolutely rotten for picking another. The thing with the first one was that, even if the political messaging was there, it wasn't at the forefront. You were more interested in the characters themselves and not whether they identified a certain way or whatever else.

I'm not against "the message" itself. I will play games that feature such things...but when you can tell right from the trailers that the game is trying to market itself a certain way, it just doesn't sit right with me.

That being said, since you didn't immediately attack me for my comment I'll concede that my original comment was more filled with personal bias about how I feel about the more recent entries and more than likely not the reason this particular game failed to sell.

Looking at general consensus, it seems to be more likely that fans simply didn't want this particular story to be told, didn't like the direction they took fan favorite characters...along with rather scummy business practices by the publisher.

Re: Talking Point: Is PlayStation Right in Saying PC Isn't a 'Major Risk' to Console Business?

The simplicity of having a dedicated device hooked up to your main TV that you can turn on and start playing something in minutes just can't be matched. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to start a game on my PC only for my controller to no longer be recognized, for sound to not play or for my settings to be changed...even if I didn't touch anything after my previous session. These things just don't happen on console and it's the reason why I will always prefer playing on that rather than a computer.

Re: Civ 7 Historian Hopes 'Gateway Drug' Will Renew Interest in Subject

Playing Civ has actually made me go back and try to read up on all these leaders. When a civ produces a unique unit or building I also like to read into what makes them so special to that particular civilization. Do I retain any of this knowledge? Not really...but it's still fun to take a deeper look in the moment.

@GymratAmarillo
This is the huge problem. It's either "take that chuds!" Or "take that wokies!" There is no compromise in the modern landscape anymore, in all subjects. If you aren't in 100% agreement with one side, you are their enemy. You can't sit in the middle and say "these people have a point...but so do these people." We live in a time of extremes. It feels like two opposing teams with delusional fans cheering mindlessly everytime it appears "their side" scored a "point" over the other. There can be no unity when both sides plug their ears and refuse to listen to each other. If they did then maybe they'd realize they're not so different after all.

TLOU2 was released just a few years after what many consider to be a gaming masterpiece so of course it was going to sell monumentality by name alone. Again, we will see if ND's name and pedigree will help push this new IP but I and many others were turned off by their last attempt. While we may have purchased TLOU2 on good faith, ND has lost this faith and will have to earn it back with the next game. There likely won't be as many blind pre-orders and people buying it JUST because its a Naughty Dog game. For the record I'm not even saying this game is destined to fail just yet, I'm merely saying that it's already tripping a few red flags right from its first trailer alone. Obviously its impossible to fully condemn a game before it is out and I'm not one of those people just saying "woke lol" with no context. I've just seen this enough times to notice a pattern and am drawing attention to it.

Not just their loss but PlayStation's loss as well. They're a business afterall and if they keep pushing out Concord level disasters then you'll suddenly see them flip stances very quick. These "tasteless masses" decide what publishers do, the image they want to put out there and for the past few years "woke" was what was considered to be desired by, as you again put them, the "tasteless masses." Sony will always cater to the most common denominator, whatever they think will make them more money. They aren't preaching diversity because they believe in the cause, they're doing it because that's where they thought the world was heading, where all the money was. If there's no money in it though? Dump it in the trash and chase the next thing as far as they are concerned.

In my opinion it's great when it is included and not made a focal point (BG3) instead of using the game as a tool to lecture gamers (Veilguard). There will always be the true minority that literally only wants straight bald white dudes in gaming but the majority of people just want a fun game that doesn't feel like its trying to force something on them. People just wanna look cute/cool/hot and slay dragons or whatever.

Probably in the minority who thought TLAU2's story wound up being crap so I'm not just going to give them a pass for their next game. I also think the character design is atrocious but that can be ignored as well as long as the gameplay and story are good. Luckily TLOU2 at least had decent gameplay so I'll hold out hope for that even if I have to skip cutscenes.

I didn't know this was a simulator game. Really looking forward to flying Porsche space ships next year! There's a place for advertisements, I'm not saying I hate any and all ads or branding. That was never my point. I see a lot of "they're trying to ground you" being thrown around...well you inadvertently pointed out that in Farming Sim those tractors exist in real life
That equipment is real. You can go out and admire one of those tractors. Porsche doesn't have flying ships. There's no purpose to using Porsche instead of some made up brand and no point to having the camera hang on that one shot for so long. It doesn't "sell the illusion" any more or less.

You can choose to care about what I say or not, this is the internet afterall. I just hope you get the game you're expecting and not the one I'm anticipating.

Is this an Akira or Blade runner game? No? Ok then. It's Cyberpunk, there's more than enough of these styles of games out now. If this setting still feels fresh to you then kudos but to me its just another thing they nailed on their checklist.
