Re: PS Plus Loses These 8 PS5, PS4 Games Next Month

ATaco

I'll see if I can get through takes of arise and scarlet Nexus. Bulletstorm should be a quick run if I feel like it. Though once February comes around I'll be too busy with kingdom come 2, Monster Hunter Wilds and Civ 7 to worry about any other games for a long time.

Re: Genshin Impact Maker to Pay $20 Million FTC Fine Over Gacha System

ATaco

20 million is a drop in the bucket to Hoyoverse btw. Nothing changes and a few people get to buy some yachts, what a scummy system.

Also, funny how EA basically does the same with their sports games but essentially get a pass in the US. This is another case of "If the US can't control it, we're going to punish it."

Re: Sony, PlayStation Studios Making Donations to Los Angeles Wildfire Relief Efforts

As a resident of California the gesture is appreciated. We actually get big forest fires every year so that was nothing new but not having any rain and tons of wind made it a true recipe for disaster. It also didn't help that leadership bungled the response at every turn -even sending us evacuation warnings just to say "just kidding, wrong place!" 30 minutes later- and made things much worse. Luckily I wasn't affected (besides the rotted air in my lungs) but my heart goes out to the people that lost everything in a day.

Batman wakes up in bed with a start, Alfred over his shoulder. "Master Bruce, thank heavens...you were suffering from the lingering effects of Scarecrow's nightmare gas for a solid week. You were tossing and turning and seemed to be in terrible pain...what did you dream about?"

"I thought I trained myself to suppress fear Alfred...but that dream...it terrified me."

I see the big streamers constantly playing it, according to steam charts there are 320k playing right now. Compare it to overwatch to at 16k and you can see they're doing really well right now. I believe they make most money off selling skins. If they keep pimping out new heroes that will keep people coming back, it's how Fortnite keeps their audience, always giving them new stuff to do. The biggest thing with Ow was the glacial pace that it released new characters.

Re: 2023's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Outsold Ubisoft's Outlaws in 2024

@DennisReynolds
Good point about Star Wars not being great lately. Most media has actually been following the same trend, the shows and movies are just as bad as this game was about it. I really hope you'll eventually start catching onto what I mean because as I said, I'm not going to use buzzwords just so you can shut me down by labeling me as this or that.

I'm surprised we all have it figured out... except for Ubisoft. "Ubisoft formula doesn't work anymore." You'd think they'd they'd be the first to realize this...but they don't. This is a massive IP that we're attaching to this and it only strengthens my case. How? Let's take a look at a past example.

Concord. Beaten to death topic right? But stick with me. At the time of it's death the excuse was "Well hero shooters are just oversaturated, nobody wants to play those anymore." And then Marvel Rivals comes out and sets records for player base and success. Now you could say "Well yeah, but Marvel is a huge IP of course it was going to do well!!"

Ok, let's come back to Outlaws. "But Star Wars is a huge IP, this should have been easy money!" Except if wasn't. I'll put it in the simplest terms. One studio provided what gamers actually wanted and the other still refuses to listen. Even now we continue to blame every other thing but the most blatant and the only reason I tiptoe around it is because you're just waiting for buzzwords and trigger words, which I won't say. Now you can choose to listen to my opinion or discard it and we can continue to watch more "sure things" flop and flounder.

Re: Feature: 18 PS5 Predictions for 2025

As much as I love Civilization, I'm expecting this release to be the most divisive release yet. A lot of people I talk to simply don't like the idea of changing civs with every era and after playing Humankind, I kind of agree with them. I'm still holding out hope that these devs will have the experience to implement it better than Humankind did as I really hope I can sink another thousand hours into a new civ game.

Re: Marvel Rivals Fans Swooning Over Its New Season 1 Skins

@PorkChopExpress
But look at it this way, if something has to cost money... aren't cosmetics the best option? Weapons vehicles and maps can segregate the player base from the has and the has nots so I see this as the best thing to charge for, since it doesn't give any unfair advantages and some people...just wanna look cool. It makes more sense to me in a game like this or Fortnite where you can actually see your character.

Re: Square Enix Wonders Why Life is Strange: Double Exposure Didn't Work Out

ATaco

@ThomasHL
I actually only played through the first one and have seen bits and pieces of subsequent releases through other's playthroughs. I really enjoyed that first one...up until the ending, which felt like the devs were forcing me to pick one "correct" path and made me feel absolutely rotten for picking another. The thing with the first one was that, even if the political messaging was there, it wasn't at the forefront. You were more interested in the characters themselves and not whether they identified a certain way or whatever else.

I'm not against "the message" itself. I will play games that feature such things...but when you can tell right from the trailers that the game is trying to market itself a certain way, it just doesn't sit right with me.

That being said, since you didn't immediately attack me for my comment I'll concede that my original comment was more filled with personal bias about how I feel about the more recent entries and more than likely not the reason this particular game failed to sell.

Looking at general consensus, it seems to be more likely that fans simply didn't want this particular story to be told, didn't like the direction they took fan favorite characters...along with rather scummy business practices by the publisher.

Re: Talking Point: Is PlayStation Right in Saying PC Isn't a 'Major Risk' to Console Business?

ATaco

The simplicity of having a dedicated device hooked up to your main TV that you can turn on and start playing something in minutes just can't be matched. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to start a game on my PC only for my controller to no longer be recognized, for sound to not play or for my settings to be changed...even if I didn't touch anything after my previous session. These things just don't happen on console and it's the reason why I will always prefer playing on that rather than a computer.

Re: Civ 7 Historian Hopes 'Gateway Drug' Will Renew Interest in Subject

ATaco

Playing Civ has actually made me go back and try to read up on all these leaders. When a civ produces a unique unit or building I also like to read into what makes them so special to that particular civilization. Do I retain any of this knowledge? Not really...but it's still fun to take a deeper look in the moment.
