What are the best PS4 RPGs? Well, the PlayStation 4 is home to a vast library role-playing games. From MMOs and open world epics to niche Japanese releases and traditional adventures stuffed with text, there's something for just about everyone. It's an expansive genre in which East meets West, and we see numerous takes a similar formula. As with anything, though, some titles are better than others, and so we've put together what we think are the best RPGs on PS4.
31. Toukiden 2
The definition of a bigger and better sequel, Toukiden 2 builds upon everything that the first game got right. While the beast slaying isn't quite up there with the super satisfying action of Monster Hunter, Toukiden 2 offers up a more traditional RPG experience, presenting a lengthy story complete with a cast of interesting characters. Its open world's eerily atmospheric, too, and overall, this is one of Omega Force's best titles to date.

Just about the best Tales game on PS4, Tales of Berseria tells a relatively mature tale of betrayal, revenge, and hate. It's not often that we get to play as villains, but calling lead character Velvet and the gang good guys is a definite stretch. This is an action RPG that has you embrace evil in order to defeat evil, and it's a memorable journey because of that. It also helps that the combat system is fast, furious, and a ton of fun.
Developer Level-5 has its formula for amazing role-playing games nailed down, and Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is proof of that. Once again, the Japanese studio delivers an effortlessly charming adventure that's a joy to play. Gorgeous graphics combine with silky smooth controls and a simple but incredibly effective combat system to create a delightful experience, even if you haven't sampled the first game.
The best game in SEGA's tactical series, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a refinement of what came before it, with larger, more engaging battlefields, better class balancing, and some fantastic characters. You can get to know its cast with more in-depth character development too, adding weight to every skirmish as you send your new pals to the front lines. Fighting back against the Empire has never been so rewarding.
With Assassin's Creed Origins, Ubisoft takes the usual formula of the historical franchise and drops a big old helping of RPG elements on top of it. The result, perhaps surprisingly, is one of the best games in the entire series. While it's certainly not the most involved action RPG on this list, it's still a great adventure featuring levelling, loot, and a solid story. What's more, its open world is a joy to explore, stuffed with detail and gigantic in scale.
