For as inevitably negative as everyone was, January's free roster of PlayStation Plus software was decent all things told – particularly on the PlayStation 4. We really liked Day of the Tentacle Remastered, and while we accept This War of Mine: Little Ones is more of an acquired taste, it's still ace if you're into that kind of thing.
But can February's lineup match it – or, better yet, top it? While we're expecting an announcement of the Instant Game Collection selection next week, this is one of those annoying months where 31st January falls on a Tuesday, so don't expect to be busting your bandwidth until at least 7th February. The release schedule's currently quite dry on that day, with only the unlikely Nioh lined up.
It means that this is likely to be another month of Sony diving into its archives – but what do you want? It's hard to make any suggestions really, but perhaps something Resident Evil related may be nice given the series' imminent return? Perhaps we could get Killzone: Shadow Fall ahead of the release of Guerrilla Games' new title Horizon: Zero Dawn?
Eh, we're honestly clueless, but do feel free to share your (realistic) suggestions in the comments section below. Is there anything in particular that you're clamouring for? We want to hear about it.

Not Knack or The Order b/c I'm buying them this weekend for $5 each.
So that leaves 2nd Son or Killzone. Since I don't play FPS, infamous it is.
@rjejr Knack and The Order confirmed...Thanks Murphy's Law.
@rjejr Y'know what, neither are good games, but I'd recommend picking up Knack and The Order for ten bucks. That's a good price for those two!
@get2sammyb Thought you liked The Order!
The Order has to be the dullest game I've ever watched and sometimes it let me play and it wasn't much better. A Resident Evil game is a good suggestion and the gamecube remake is still a great game. I'm quite happy with some more indie games as there is quite a lot coming out that I'll be buying, perhaps Life is Strange as I never got round to finishing it
The Order is a solid pick up for $5.
It doesn't matter, it will be a stupid indie game or anything like that.
@kyleforrester87 I think I gave it a 6. I love the lore, visuals, and art direction, but I think it's a bad game. It just doesn't go anywhere, and ends abruptly. Plus, the stealth sequences are awful!
It's fine for $5, though.
@rjejr second son is great! Hopefully you'll get to play it soon.
On topic, I really want Gravity rush remastered still. It's still really expensive and impossible to find in stores around me and it's a series I'm definitely interested in. Just not at full price.
A triple A game and a good indie...just that! Inside would be a solid offering but I think it's still too soon
@ztpayne7 This was probably the month for Gravity Rush, sadly.
I would like the indie of prisons thats 16 bucks in the psn store (cant remember the name) 😂
GTA V - then finally we can banish it from the charts forever!
On a serious note I would happily take Pacman DX 2 on ps4 and Tekken 3 ps1 classic for vita.
Will be playing Yakuza 0 and having the obligatory game of rocket league and battlefield 1 with the mates so not too concerned with the offerings
And The order had so much potential. I wish they would do a sequel just cause it could be an amazing game if they continue to work on it
@get2sammyb I know but I can dream right? Maybe gravity cat from the commercials can show them the ere of their ways...
@get2sammyb Yeah, sometimes for $5 you just have to play it to find out for youself what everybody has been talking about. Knack 2 is coming, unless I dreamed that which is possible, so we sort of need to play the first. We'll I'll let my kids play 2 player Knack and let me know how it goes. Honestly it's funny but I probably wouldn't buy either for $9.99, but $4.99 I can do. That's like gas money to the library and back twice.
@Mega-Gazz That's not Murphys Law, it's Sonys Law, 1 of the games on sale this weekend will be a PS+ game next month. Just hopefully not Knack or The Order.
My subscription is finally over, nothing will make me buy it again.
For the PS4 i would like a PS2 title. Like Red Faction or one of the Gta games. Life Is Strange and Resident Evil Revelations 2 would be nice and could also be offered on the PS3.
Who cares. Everything from the last 3 months has been utter crap!
The war children game from this month was one of the worst I've ever played!
Controls were horrid!
Premise was good, but execution was really bad!
I hope they throw in a VR game
I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
@rjejr Despite everyone panning The Order I thought it was excellent! Just don't expect CoD-style shootouts but more cinematics and you'll prob like it too!
In an ideal world, Hitman. I missed out on picking up Season One in the January sale but I'd love to try it.
There are some smaller games I'd be more than happy with, too - Thumper, Enter the Gungeon, or Firewatch to name a few.
Free...?
Awe GRAVITY RUSH REMASTERED! with the sequel out now, it's possible
I'd like Nidhogg and Towerfall Ascension (although I think towerfall was on it already), would love Hyper Light Drifter but seems to early for that
@Sinton I was thinking the same thing, since when were things you had to pay money for free?
@Hego Nidhogg and Towerfall Ascension are great! Very fun little multiplayer games. Looking forward to Nidhogg 2
I'd like Firewatch or Overcooked though I doubt they'll be chosen as they're probably still making money for the developers (and good luck to them) but maybe in another 6 months or so they might appear.
Not sure what I want - I am hoping for one of the many indie games that I want but haven't picked up yet. I would think Dear Esther personally for PS4.
Hyper Light Drifter or Mekazoo.
@Dichotomy And, as I recently learned (but probably should've known), you don't actually get to own them - you just get the right to use them as long as you pay for the service.
@Constable_What Big Smoke, like it.
@rjejr To be honest man, I think you might enjoy both games - especially Knack. It's become a bit of a joke, but it's not really as bad as people make it out to be. It's just a bit bland, but it can be fun.
Insert obligatory Dishonored wish here. For the last time since otherwise I'll just grab it in early February. XD
Attempting realistic guesses from my interest zone, however... Valkyria Chronicles? Relatively fresh PSN release (on PS4, I mean), but the price is in the zone of what's usually given away. So is Thief's - even before we see what the sales are discounting it to (would be annoying for those who'll have bought it on this sale, though). Among "smaller" stuff, maybe Bastion? They do have a knack (no implicit guessee or puns intended) for crossplatforms with Vita. And speaking of Vita... Tearaway? :3
Can't complain about the factual giveaways anyway. Stories alone quickly became one of my favourites on PS4 to date.
@get2sammyb they did plan a sequel. This only became an issue after the developers went their own way and the IP rights stuck with the publisher. Oops. I do imagine how the result may feel like a pilot episode of a canned show, but I grabbed it last month for my friend and plan to try it myself. Sounds like the lore alone can make it a memorable enough pastime.
@nhSnork Well, it didn't sell very well either.
I demand knack.
@Dodoo Thanks, I don't do shootouts, I prefer cinematic, so I'll probably pick it up later. I hate stealth though, not looking forward to those parts, but oh well, good w/ the bad.
@get2sammyb "but it's not really as bad as people make it out to be."
I'm hoping all the people who hate Knack are the same people who hate all of the Skylanders games, b/c we love all of those. Well not Superchargers, everybody hated Superchargers, it sucked. We also like all of the Lego games. My kids are kids, they like fun, and ocassionally Ilike it too.
I've always thought Knacks biggest problem was it was a launch game used to show of the power of the PS4 when it should have been a game that released a year later, it wasn't a system seller, it was a $20 indie masquerading as a $60 AAA title launch title. For $5 I'm just viewing it as a fun little indie like Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.
I don't care as long as at least one of them is something I don't already own. Kinda the main reason I don't buy indies anymore, between PS+ and Humble Monthly it get a lot of titles for very little money.
@Constable_What San Andreas would be nice!
@MinerWilly Been waiting for Firewatch to get a decent discount or on plus so that'd be amazing.
I'll take the bait...give us Resident Evil 4!!! I played it on PS3 a year ago and wow that game is still a blast. Top 5 all-time for me
Other hopes: Enter the Gungeon, Salt & Sanctuary, Grow Up, Abzu
@rjejr Yeah, I think you'll enjoy it if you look at it from that regard. And I agree with you about the launch game thing.
@get2sammyb So I watched the trailer last night on PS4 for The Order in the store and I thought it looked kind of stilted and brown. I'm wondering if those auto play vids are 15fps and 480p? it really looked terrible, so I was thinking I'd pass. But crazy Sony, even w/ the PS4, requires a $5 minimum on credit card for your wallet. They have about 100 games on sale under $5 but you still need to spend $5. I know I've complained about this a million times in the past, but I assumed on PS4 in 2017 they would have fixed it by now. Apple iTunes Store, Google Play, Nintneod eShop, probably STEAM, everybody else just lets you charge the amount. $5 minimum is nuts, who does that? Make it 99 cents or $1, they have too many "Under $5 sales" for a $5 minimum, it's just stupid. So now I'm buying the Order anyway so I don't have 1 cent left in my wallet. They're lucky I just don't pass again. Honestly, if only Knack or the Order was on sale for $4.99 I'd skip the sale over that stupid penny, it bothers me that much. Not the penny, their policy.
Also, the games are 30GB each. My 500GB HDD will have about 60B left after this, enough for Horizon Zero Dawn ON DISC, and I just got the PS4 for Christmas. Mandatory installs and no external HDD support is a crazy combination, almost every game I own is on disc. Well at least I bought my PS4 after folders, even w/ folders things are filling up the screen - "Games", "Demos", "PS+", "Streaming" "Sony Stuff". I don't know how you guys managed w/o folders for so long. But I'd trade in my folders for external HDD support.
@rjejr Trust me, The Order is one of the best looking games you'll ever play. It's absolutely ridiculous.
@rjejr The funny thing is Sony used to not have a minimum spend back when Microsoft still used points (and probably a little afterwards too). I agree it is an unwelcome policy that can be annoying, in the UK it is a £5 minimum spend too. And yes, Steam do allow small payments (I've literally paid 7p for a game on Steam due to my wallet funds not quite covering it - when the equivalent happens on Sony's store I usually don't bother completing the transaction).
@get2sammyb Well I just bought it, so after it downloads and installs I'll let you know. Maybe March. jk about that but I doubt I'll get to it before March. Just reread your review, and I'm really not looking forward to playing it now, QTEs ugh, but the 8 hour movie sounds like fun to watch. You watch the Underworld films? They're all awful but enjoyable.
@Dichotomy "when the equivalent happens on Sony's store I usually don't bother completing the transaction"
I've done that at least 5 or 6 times for $1.99 or $2.99 prices. I keep forgetting until it happens.
Realistically... Mother russia bleeds. Slain back from hell. Volgar. Spider. A bastards tale. Dear esther. Last fight. Mount and blade. Jotun. Oceanhorn. Claire. One way trip. Verdun. Alone with you. Headlander. Hyper light drifter. Jamestown. Lifeless planet. The park. Axion verge. No time to explain. Knock knock. Fire watch. Not a hero. Guns gore and canolli. Wasteland 2. Calvino noir. The Bridge. Submerged. Hatoful boyfriend the escapist. Shovel knight. Hotline miami 2. Serious sam3. Dragon fantasy bundle. Etc etc. Take your pick sony
G-Police and Colony Wars, please.
Dishonored 2 and FFXV
I'm kinda hoping for Kingdom hearts 1 remastered myself.
Whereas on paper a Resi would be a good choice it would lead to some confusion given how completely different the new one will be.
From art direction to playstyle its like apples and oranges only we just call them fruit.
Im hoping for something like Madden or Formula 1, if only because the only true sports game weve had on there has been NBA within 3 years.
Took a look online at This War Of Mine, thought it looked good so I tried it.
Gameplay was so so, but the overarching story and the way you are sometimes forced to make a tough choice, it really is a unique and raw take on war, Id recommend.
@Eternallover21 I already like what I've seen and heard of it and briefly tried of it (I grabbed the PSP sequel last year, but it would make more sense to play this one first). Glad it's been remastered (read: accessible beyond last gen consoles for me), although it's still a pity the third game isn't moving an inch westward to this day.
@rjejr sony puted the oreder on flash sale
So they not going to make it free even they dont lost 5$ !
__
Iwant knack or even killzone
Infamous is a good case too
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi ahah, aren't you a dreamer?
@Eternallover21 My backlog is massive 10 plus games. I rather have massive sales then free games anyway.
@pbernoos some games have gone to Plus right off the preceding sale board, though. Letter Quest, for one. I hear Sony generally means to avoid it but that's become harder since IGC lineup was synchronized on both sides of the Atlantic... while sale lineups remain independent.
@ztpayne7 "second son is great!"
I'll get it some day, but I'll need to make room on my 4 week old 500GB HDD first. 4 weeks old and already filled, 3 digital games, 7 on disc. Crazy. On the bright side I think I spent <$200 on 10 games, retail games, not indies, $218 on the PS4 Slim, so I can't complain too much. $40 DS4 is my 2nd biggest expense so far, FFXV was $48 w/ Amazon Prime.
I think Killzone is quite likely, but will definitely tick some people off. As for an indie, I've been interested in Stardew Valley, and I think that would definitely level out Killzone
@rjejr 500 Gb filled out with 3 digital games? Woah. I think I'm past that mark on my 1 Tb Slim myself, but only after stuffing it with the likes of GTA 5, Saints Row 4, The Order, NFS Rivals, Metro Redux, Divinity, Trine trilogy, a few free2plays like Neverwinter and Tomorrow Children, a few demos and the whole lineup of IGC PS4 offerings since last October. Roughly 40 games total. May I ask what three games did such a number on your storage?
@rjejr it gets easy to manage the disc storage eventually. Once you're done with a game for a bit, delete it off. Installing disc games takes 20 seconds plus patch. You can install the patch in rest mode as well, so no need to stare at the screen like PS3.
Ragnarok Odyssey Ace (PS3/Vita).
&
Ricochet HD (PS3).
I honestly don't even care at this point. I'm just going to be disappointed that there's isn't a triple A title anyways.
@carlos82 REmake was on PS+ a few months ago. They could do RE0 maybe. That'd be typical since I bought it at Christmas.
@Matroska funnily enough I think they may be giving Resi 0 on ps+. I noticed on the current sale that the costume pack for the game is on sale yet the game isn't, could this be a clue?
@rjejr Shoot! I was going to take advantage of the flash sale too but I thought I had today yet. Oh well, I was on the fence with The Order, Knack, and Injustice anyways. I'll probably put my $10 credit towards The Last of Us or the Uncharted Collection.
I might get Horizion too but I'll get that through Amazon to save some money.
@dkxcalibur The sale was dated to end today, did it end at noon or 6AM, something ridiculous like that, rather than midnight like any sane person would expect? I haven't been on since I spent my $9.98 on Saturday. And now I'm wondering if my kids owe me any money. I'm always charging stuff for them on credit cards and they always pay me back, when I remind them. hmm
@rjejr you nailed it, the sale ended at 11am. I thought it would until midnight and I would be able to think about it while at work. Oh well.
@dkxcalibur Well sorry to hear that, that sucks. I'd guess 3 more months and whatever you want will be back on sale. Or on PS+, it can't suck forever.
@delukze you don't want to play online.
Shadow of mordor or last of us remastered.. But after enjoying day of the tentacle I would not mind a monkey island game..if they exist for ps4
@Abulnoor There's only one game I play online and it's not worth paying to play just one game and not take advantage of the deals and free games which I don't like.
Bound
Personally;
Ps4: BloodBorne and The Evil Within
PS3: Red Dead Redemption and Gundam Warriors Rebirth
PS Vita: Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Marvel Vs Capcom 3 (or SSD)
I already have Bloodborne and SSD but these games definitely needs more attention (and the more attention, the higher chance Sony might decide to do a sequel of Both).
Why are they not announced yet?
I'd like to see a change in what they offer to include items such as Guitar Hero song packs or free choice of DLC for games that subscribers own, or maybe even access to trials of upcoming games. Game wise I'd like to see Killzone: Shadows Fall or a VR game such as Headmaster.
To be honest, with Nioh and For Honor coming out within a week of each other, I'll be lucky if I find time to urinate. So I'm cool whatever happens!
To be honest I don't really care because if I really want it then I'll just buy it. I actually prefer buying it because I feel more comfortable that it won't taken away as soon as my membership runs out (next Tuesday). Only exceptions are if it happens somehow before it goes on sale, or if it's something I'd never consider buying but end up really enjoying.
@fluggy perhaps because February's first Tuesday is the 7th. Not getting the announcements this week makes them expectable on February 1.
I would like any AAA game, allways indies 😢
@get2sammyb When does Sony usually announce the upcoming month's free games?
@Xaritah It doesn't matter if it's AAA or Indie, a great game is a great game, regardless of it's publisher. I'd just ask for something above mediocrity.
@Azikira nice answer, you got me 😁 wise words there
@Rukiafan7 I expected it this week. 😕
@nhSnork @rjejr There's no difference between digital and disc games in terms of storage taken, as far as I know. A disc game on PS4 is basically a digital game that installs to the HDD and needs the disc inserted to run. There's also patches that can weigh in at several GB for each game.
Then, as far as I know, the annoying thing is that when downloading a new patch or game, you actually need at least double the space it'll take up because it downloads it then installs it, then deletes the original download. It can be much larger in some cases if the devs program things in a certain way, like The Witcher 3 patches being about 3GB but needing about 30GB free to install. They messed up with TW2 on PC as well where the game was basically all in one big file to make it quicker to read for the computer - but that meant the first few patches were basically as big as the entire game.
@SoulsBourne128 bloodborne was huge, there are already rumours of it getting a sequel. It's also a platform exclusive, and still sells. Sony would never give that one away.
I reckon we're on for another poor month. Probably something nobody bought, or another new game like Ether One which just won't sell.
That or amnesia. Might be that.
Any (good) game that you don't already own digitally is a great choice for the monthly PS Plus. That's always my only criteria!
Time for Sony to drop one PS3 and one Vita game I reckon to give PS4 games a bigger share of the budget...
@Gmork___ Some of the games you mentioned like One Way Trip, Calvino Noir and A Bastard's Tale weren't really well recieved so I doubt Sony will even offer these games for PS Plus.
Don't want the order I got from the sales would be ok with Knack also as someone who is thinking about Gravity rush 2 I would love the remastered version of one
Also I dont get this idea of dropping the ps3 games and vita as someone who did more gaming on the 360 last gen I am enjoying going back to the ps3 versions of all those games and playing them over plus most games now are cross play
@get2sammyb Well it'll have to be next week, unless Sony just plans on adding the games without an announcement! xD
There's no way either Sony or Microsoft could offer a game free which someone hasn't bought before. So I feel sorry for the poor guy or team who has to select them. They need nuts of steel to keep their sanity intact! Personally I love the free games and it also gives the indies a chance to gain feedback and improve on their skills... hoping more will grow into triple AAA studios.
Im still holding out hope for a true sports title.
Or maybe something like Ace Combat?
These types of games are rarely, if ever offered.
Some of the "indies" theyve offered up have been tripe, Tower Of Guns for example.
And they should be treated as such, because they are small studios is irrelavent, a crap game is a crap game.
But in all honesty I want to see true variety on the IGC, a full mix of all genres.
Not a 5 month stretch of platformers followed by 3 months of pixel art or puzzlers.
@Rukiafan7 Indeed!
I've been holding off buying The Swapper for a while now because I feel like it could make an appearance...
Probably won't happen but I would love to get Rachet & Clank.
@Gremio108 Already has been a plus game two years ago so no point waiting, may as well buy it.
If we're being realistic it's going to be an indie game and the only one I remember wanting is the Castle game so hopefully it's that! Looks a fun game but not one I can be bothered spending £7.99 on! Other than that probably be more crap or even something decent I don't have time to play anyway.😂
@get2sammyb Sony just DM'd my business Twitter account after I inquired about it, and it's looking like the games will be announced sometime tomorrow.
I am Setsuna (unrealistically) or that kickstarter game - Earthlock festival of magic. I would also like ps2 remasters.
I'd like to think that after a poor January, Sony will pull something great out the bag. I'm ploughing though FFXV at the min, but something that I can play for 30 mins in between or if I don't have too much time to invest would be great.
I'd like to see them stick a lego game on there, or put a full Telltales game on like the 1st series of The Walking Dead, or Wolf Among Us. They always drop the price of the bundle on the store, so it would make sense to put one of them in PS plus as an incentive to invest in the others, one episode isn't enough to make me want to buy the rest of a the game, no matter how good the story is. But if I loved the whole game (I'm ashamed to say I haven't ever bought one) it would probably sway me to get others.
@get2sammyb So has Sony just dropped the instant game collection? Because this is starting to get stupid...
@Rukiafan7 I've no idea what the delay is.
@ztpayne7 "it gets easy to manage the disc storage eventually."
Sorry for the 2 week late reply while cleaning out my inbox but wanted to address this -
On my PS4 right now:
Me - U4, FFXV, Knack (yeah I know)
youngest son - DBXV2, DQH, Skylanders Imaginators, Knack, Rocket League
oldest son - Ratchet & Clank
We never "finish" anything b/c we play too many games at once. These games and a few demos have pretty much filled up our entire 500GB HDD.
Of course once the new firmware update goes live we should be good, but until then, 3 people, 1 PS4, tight fit.
@nhSnork "500 Gb filled out with 3 digital games?"
Um I may have worded that poorly in trying to get my point across. My HDD is indeed almost filled after buying only 3 digital games, but I also have 7 retail disc games. I was more complaining about how fast a 500GB HDD fills up when buying disc games. I don't understand how every single disc game needs to be fully downloaded to the HDD at all times. Sound should be able to stream no problem and those 5.1 sound files are usually huge. 10GB - 15GB per game should be enough to make a game playable, not 30GB-50GB. The PS4 has 8GB of DDR5 RAM, almost everything should be streamable off the disc.
@rjejr I hear half of that RAM is spent on the OS bells and whistles (like background video recording and online operations) AND managing the disk drive as well. But I hear you - despite the assumed potential load boost (the very reason PSP also featured partial memory card installations, albeit usually optional), having to install the full game on the drive kinda questions the purpose of having a disk at all, unless you treat your copy as a pure backup alternative to PS Store (a backup which still has to undergo physical wear every time you play since the disk games don't seem to run without their disks, installations notwithstanding).
Frankly, I'm inclined to suspect the hypothetical future PS5 might be using carts, too. Although for Sony's home consoles, that would be a first.
@nhSnork " future PS5"
I used to think the PS5 wouldn't happen, Sony would just sell little PSTV boxes and controllers and try to stream everything, but after 50 million PS4 in 3 years, with God of War and Last of US 2 still coming, I think they'll make a PS5 now, very similar to the PS4. By then 4k blu-ray will be out which hold up to 100GB triple layer. That would be a might big cart, and a mighty long and slow download on most peoples broadband in the US.
Maybe the PS6 will just be a visor over WiFi.
@rjejr and eventually... https://youtu.be/jRJXLu3YVpM
@nhSnork At my current mortality rate I'll go around PS7 or PS8 so I don't have to think about PS9. Though at the rapid rate science keeps going I could imagine the PS9 tech by PS8. Of course it will be controlled by Skynet and actually turns us all into it's slaves. Or just use us as batteries. AI wins in the end.
