Uh oh, we can already hear people grabbing their pitchforks. The PlayStation Plus games selection for July has been revealed, and, well, there's not a Knack to be found. Joking aside, this month's batch of free titles includes the super fun Rocket League, and the rather gorgeous Entwined on PlayStation 4. The latter is available on Vita, too.
What's more, quirky stealth-'em-up Styx: Master of Shadows brings goblins to your new-gen home console, while Mousecraft hits every PlayStation platform. As for PS3 and Vita, the former gets Rain, while the latter nabs the all new Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved.
What do you make of the selection? Good? Okay? Craptastic? Sound off in the comments section below.

No thanks .
Well I can't complain cause they are free. I will at least download them and give them a chance.
Not really interested in anything this month.
Whoa!
This is awesome! I was gonna actually buy Rocket League but this is cool! That alone made this a great month!
Rocket league saves me some money
Rocket League and Mousecraft work for me.
Sounds good whats rocket league about?
It's an okay offering considering DriveClub finally released. I don't get the obsession of getting Knack with Plus. It was a pretty average game. I'd rather try something unique over a mediocre platformer.
Geometry wars 3 - get in!!!!!! Boss was gonna buy that.
@stevie85 Its a joke at this point - but I would play knack if it was free. Knack knack knack.
@XFsWorld exactly same here!
@Shadowdillon92 Football/Soccer with cars. I would link you to a youtube video I made of it when it was in beta but that would be shameless promotion. If your a fan of Twisted Metal too then Sweet Tooth's ice cream truck is in the game.
@stevie85 It's because some think Plus should have full retail titles on it every month regardless of quality.
@themcnoisy Plus has gone down in quality. No doubt about it.
I enjoyed styx, I would recommend it to stealth fans
So while Xbox gets AC 4, we get another indie slugfest? I miss the times when I got the likes of DmC, Tomb Raider, Gravity Rush and Soul Sacrifice with Plus.
@adf86 Very true. It's an unfortunate mindset to have really.
@Heiki Entwined and Geometry Wars aren't indie games.
@adf86 Yeah, I know. To be fair, they all seem to be great games in their own right. I'm just not sure if Plus is worth my money these days. I don't play online much on my PS4, so I could just use that money to get games I really want to play.
@Heiki - Agree w/ you, no matter what anybody tells you, there was a time a year or 2 ago when PS+ was rocking w/ retail titles. Maybe not all AAA, but retail. I haven't seen anything like that on PS3 in almost a year, which is why i didn't re-subscribe after expiring Black Friday.
But that's what happens w/ 22m PS4 and it's required for online play, they don't need to offer nuthin, so they don't.
Yay....
I've been curious about entwined. PS+ will pick up soon enough, and I'm patient so this will suffice for now
I'm honestly quite disappointed this month. Everyone seems thrilled with Rocket League, but it's football. Ugh. I despise football.
This is all the crap that didn't sell being given to us. That's all. They should just stop now, it's embarrassing.
@Johnnycide Rocket League was going to sell regardless.
@adf86 I'm sure it was. People who play sports games quite enjoy throwing good money at poor games. Fifa for instance. The Malibu Stacey's hat of gaming.
As always some have missed the point about Plus yet again. If people seriously want 18 month old retail games (regardless of quality) then you can get them for next to nothing now anyway and the retail version saves on the old HDD space. People need to be treating Plus as service that allows you to play games that you wouldn't normally play or buy because of time and money. I had no intention of buying Call of Juarez but I loved playing it last month. That's what Plus's IGC is for, not for the cheap ones who have a vague interest in some AAA game that they decide to wait because they think it should be on Plus.
@Johnnycide I'm sorry but you haven't played Rocket League to deem it a poor game because like you say "I hate football". I would loved to know what you think should be on Plus.
Yay! Rocket League, as predicted! Really happy that game is gonna get millions of people playing it: if just 10% sticks around, which I'm sure they will since the game is great, we have some excellent competition!
@adf86 I'd be happy to oblige.
Wolfenstein, Hotline Miami 2, Resogun, Shadow of Mordor, Shadow Warrior, TLOU Left Behind...
any of those would be a better choice in my opinion.
I genuinely dislike sports games and sticking a few cars in there doesn't change the fact that it's a sports game.
@johnnycide Fine if you don't like sports games but just because it is doesn't make it poor, in fact it's quite the opposite, anybody who played the beta can tell you that. Right Wolfenstein is too soon, more chance of Old Blood been on Plus first because Bethesda can put a cheaper and shorter game on the service to boost sales of New Order. Hotline Miami 2 is too soon as well maybe Xmas time. Resogun's already been on Plus. Shadow of Mordor too soon again and the game sold well so there's no incentive for WB to put it on Plus. Shadow Warrior is a real possibility but more likely to be on closer to the sequel's release. And Left Behind is interesting but considering that it's packed with the main game on PS4 I don't think Sony would do that.
Rocketleague awsome stuff the game is so much fun I played the beta and I loved it and i'm no major fan of sports either and I would of gladly paid £20 if not more for this game, don't knock it till you try it great month for Ps4
lol, possible the worst month yet, not to worry I've got plenty of backlog.
Lol, I always wanted to try Rain but I refused to buy it knowing it will eventually be a ps+ free tile so happy to finally see it there...... still, the way PS+ has become a propaganda machine for indie games instead of a premium service with real value for subscribers is really disappointed
RockeRocket league beta was so much fun..cant wait to play it regularly,i was gonna buy(but didnt) styx in the sale last week heard a few good things about even tho it might notbe everyones cup of tea...pretty good month actually and ps+ is still good value for money even more so if you own more than one sony console
Considering this month they are celebrating the 5th aniversary...
At least the are consistent, on the wrong side...
I already brought entwined and geometry wars but rocket league looks awesome mouse craft looks like a game I wouldn't really play but it still looks cool
I read somewhere a few days ago that sony are looking into making the extremely good value for money ps+ even better value by making it a personalised service for every subscriber..soon, each month you will be able to get the games YOU want to play.
Already bought Styx but never played it though. Rocket League is a nice deal so I'll be nabbing that one for sure.
Seems o.k. It's just a shame it's not the PS4 Version of 'Geometry Wars 3' to
This is pretty neat. I have rain and it is a good little story. Son has been begging for mousecraft and I have been curious about entwined and styx. I like this month definitely better than last month.
Hmm maybe Styx. Not bad a bad line up.
@adf86 Agree with you there man on post #24. So many games I was on the fence about like Valiant Hearts for example that I didn't want to shell out the money for it cause I didn't know if I would like the game or not or games like InFamous First Light and Binding of Issac that I wanted but just didn't get cause my money went towards other games.
Most people that cry about not having any AAA games are PS3 owners which Sony did to make it so people would buy PS+. Now due to Sony making it mandatory to have PS+ for multiplayer they don't need to give out games with it and these people don't understand that. They are lucky Sony even give free games with it now. Honestly what kind of gamer buys a system then doesn't want to pay for games. If they want that just get a tablet and get all free games your heart desires.
Haha this thread makes me laugh every month and brings up pointless debates. On one side you have people complaining they arent getting aaa games which to be honest, titles like knack were awful anyway. Then you have the holier than though people who think it is ok to run people down because they dont like what is on offer. Stop saying the games are free, if you did not have to pay for the subscription yes the games would be free. So they are not free games. Sony have forced people to buy ps plus by hiding online play behind a paywall. Honestly i preferred the old way Sony handled online play. So my point is have your opinions both sides, but this thread ends up as a mud slinging free for all from both sides where the same thing is repeated. As for the games, for me they are awful this month, but you know what, i dont care. I have plenty to play that i purchased myself. You like the games, good for you, i am really pleased for you.
@Tasuki Exactly I came from the PS3 but I see Plus for the incredible value it is. And yes the games are free because every month the games's value equates to more then the yearly sub fee then you might as well say it's free. Those comments also go on to mention about online play put behind Plus like it's some type of crime, I wonder if Microsoft got this much stick for doing it years ago? It's like people don't think Sony should be making money off there services.
@adf86 say they are free if it makes you feel better, i dont care either way. Yes sony have put online behind a paywall and the service you get for you paying to be online in all honestly hasnt improved mich from the ps3 era. So no, i prefer if online was free, who wouldn't? And who said it was a crime? Simply put the money sony make from the service should be heavily invested in making that service the best it can be. But sorry, i forgot. Because i have a different opinion it is obviously wrong
@adf86 Honestly the whole reason I got PS+ was for the games. I rarely play online (even though my son does with a sub account) but that was my whole reason. I can for $50 a year just $10 less than a game like Arkham Knight on release date and get at least two games a month guarantee to at least try. If I dont like them no harm done I delete them move on to the next game next month.
I sometimes wonder if the people who complain about the PS+ game selection complain to people who give them a Jelly of the Month membership for a Christmas present instead of a new iPhone or something like that.
Some people just think because they buy a companies products they are entitled to things which they arent. You want that become a shareholder in the company or something.
@Mrskinner The way people go on about Plus every time there's an update you can't help but think Sony must have personally insulted them for them to get so riled up. And yes me saying the "Plus games are free" makes me feel better because I know when I see value for money and if others can't then that's there problem.
@Tasuki "Entitled" is the word for it my friend at the end of the day.
Puzzle games are my least favorite games and we get one every month.
I still feel PS+ is worth it but the line ups clearly have dropped off since making PS+ mandatory for online.
happy with whats coming, got Entwined already but as I have a Vita and Ps3, can't complain.
I would rather have these "smaller" title than Triple A, if the triple A was any good I would have grabbed a long time ago, so something I would not neccesarily try is more interesting to me "for free" than something i have likely bought already...
@Mrskinner That for me is the worst part of the PS+ articles on here. Too many people seem to think that if you don't like the games you're scum and then criticise the amount of people who complain. Problem with that is the people complaining about the complainers actually dwarf those who are unhappy by three or four times.
@adf86 Entwined is a glorified indie game. Was made by a group of students who just happened to get lucky and earn some backing from Sony. It's a decent little game but once the 'ooo, pretty/trippy' effect wears off a few hours in it's lack of replayability (despite challenges and score attack) really shows.
As for the games, it's the usual meh from me. Seems to be a collection of games that will thrill you for a few hours and then never be touched again. Like most of the games have been over the last year/year and a half. There's nothing wrong with the games offered but when Sony promise you quality and you're not given actual quality it's not hard to see why people complain. If you're told for a yearly fee you'll get a loaf of fresh bread and then after a few months you start getting loaves that are out of date already then you wouldn't be happy. Terrible analogy but it's f**king boiling, I'm far too hot and worried I'm dangerously close to Dave's Syndrome.
@rastamadeus Pixel Opus is a Sony owned studio so it's not even a "glorified indie". And people's perception of quality is subjective so not everyone is going to be happy but what I can't stand is people who are so dismissive of certain games " Indies usually if we're honest" just because it isn't there type of game doesn't mean Plus is now a poorer service for it.
I like PS+ and appreciate the value. I think of PS+ like Netflix. I'm not going to watch every show that's on Netflix, and that's fine. I play the games I like, and usually at least try the ones I don't think I'll like. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised. Skulls of the Shogun is awesome--never would've bought it on my own. The Juarez game was a lot of fun, too. Now I've got Drive Club and I'm excited to sample some of the others. Geometry Wars looks great--hope it's as fun as the Wii Geometry Wars game was a few years ago.
@rastamadeus yep, certain people on these posts slam anybody who is not happy with the line up. Happens every month without fail. So they have a different view to you, get over it. I dont see either argument being correct because they are all opinions. People have different tastes, winds me up when people are put down for thinking differently. Makes reading these posts more and more boring each time because apparently if you do not think the same way you shouldnt own a sony
What's not to love Geometry Wars 3 people!!!! That's £12 on the store, I paid £35 for 12 months Ps plus. If games of that quality come out 3 times I have my money back. This year I made my money back by February.
I remember as an xbot I looked over at psplus and the endless supply of AAA and was extremely jealous. So I can understand people being miffed. But as an ex xbot I never got free games for 5 years so I love psplus.
Styx looks ok, so I'll probably download that. Gotta be honest, for my first month on plus, I'm kinda disappointed with the offerings I thought PlayStation plus got lots of cool freebies, this isn't that great this month. Kinda happy I at least got driveclub and metal gear solid on its last day last month when i got my ps4; though.
@themcnoisy first part of you're comment nails it...thats exactly how i see it!.. Someone above mentioned that the games arent free, the cost of ps+ is around 11pence per day..ive had ps+ for 5years and i can honestly say that i havent been disappointed with the monthly offerings ever, it is truly great value for money....and as i said before the first time sony put a AAA(or similar) on ps4 plus the complaints will still come..."40gig ps+ game, its taking forever to download, i dont have room on my hard drive" kind of complaints...
@Mrskinner
I quite agree. People's opinions are just that - opinions. There seem to be a number of people who feel "entitled" to run down anyone who dares to venture an opinion that they don't agree with.
On the actual subject of the "paid for" monthly games I'm looking forward to trying Geometry Wars 3. I would have been looking forward to the rocket ball game but I played the beta and it didn't grab me (even with cars it was still 2-a-side football and I've not been a fan of football games since Sensible Soccer stopped being made ).
@teknium_ yup, people moan, a lot.
In this six month of 2015 I beat only two games form plus. Others I didn't played or just tried them out of curiosity for 30-60 minutes and droped because they were meh. And I didn't play online since I droped Destiny. So plus is total waste for me. I mean 'I coould buy those two games I beat for like 4 or 5 bucks for both on sales.
@themcnoisy its better value for those with more than one system definitely. People will moan no matter what. These threads are the same.old arguments every month, guaranteed.
ROCKET LEEEEEAAAAGUEEEEEE
Haha, so many people moaning, you don't have to subscribe you know.
For me it's one of the best months in ages simply for having Rocket League, I intended to buy that on release. I don't know much about the other games but I'll be sure to give them a look.
I get back my monthly subscription and then some with the plus discounts on games I'd be buying anyway. So I'd subscribe even without the free games and online play. Any free games are just a bonus.
This is just some of the titles we've had in the last year...people seem to have short memories about how much good stuff we get
Dishonored, Sherlock Holmes, Rogue Legacy,Yakuza 4, Thief, Prototype 2, Hitman HD, Batman Arkham Asylum, NBA 2K14, Crysis 3, Dead Space 3, Trine,Injustice, Binding of Isaac, First Light, Valiant Hearts, MGS, Rocket League, Styx, Lego Batman, Lego HP, Killzone Mercenary.
Not every month is going to be to your liking but that doesn't mean the service we get is poor
Rocket League looks interesting and fun!
And by that I mean uninteresting and dull.
Cue, "you dont know quality, you are entitled, youre not allowed to dislike a game" etc etc…zzzzz…
A valid point was made earlier by @Mrskinner, there are alot of a class pricks on here that just have to slag off anyone who doesnt share their view.
What also seems to happen is AAA games get a lot of crap for being too generic, content been done before, graphically not that great and so on and so forth.
That happens just as much in Indy dev games, but wait! That makes them exempt from that kind of criticism right?
The answer is in fact, no.
Personally Im (still) waiting for a nice story driven title on plus.
Or something similar to Strider, a good action adventure would be nice too.
I dont care if its Indy and as @get2sammyb pointed out to me earlier this year, Ninja Theory are an Indy dev, and I thoroughly enjoy their games.
Nothing, unsurprisingly interests me again, but well see what happens next month.
@LieutenantFatman Well, unless you want to play Battlefield or Call of Duty with your mates…
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya never alone was story driven. It fulfilled a need that most of us had. You learned about Inuit people. Yep. Really needed that.
Seriously though. Just because you're easily pleased doesn't make sony infallible. Neither does it make anyone who doesn't agree with you "entitled".
Plus is £39.99 per year(uk) around the same price as a "AAA" title(not many at the price ill grant you)would you rather have up to 3(depending on if you have ps4,ps3,vita)"AAA" games per year or keep plus as it is now?... Id personally keep it as is, ive been with plus for 5years and ive never felt disappointed with whats on offer each month and its always been really great value for money...even more so for me, coz my account is on vita, ps3 and mine and my kids ps4
@Johnnycide I never said that at all.
I pointed out that many folk here have to jump all over those whom arent happy.
I never even mentioned that made people "entitled" at all.
I never played it, I wish Id had though as it would have been a nice change to the standarc formula most of these games share.
Irrelevant of whether the actual story was good, I personally would like to see more of that, preferrably a deeper story.
Easily pleased? Seriously?
Are you just plucking this rubbish out of the air?
Ive catagorically stated time and again how Im NOT interested in many of the plus titles.
@teknium_ I think that does affect things to be honest.
I only have a ps4 and as Plus is s requirement for online play, I dont feel any benefit from ot at all.
Imo, just because something is being offered for "free" that doesnt neccessarily mean it is worth having or playing.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya this is why we need a sarcasm font. .
I was agreeing with you.
to be fair though, that could have been worded better. The second paragraph of that comment was aimed at a couple of other people on here. Not you.
@Johnnycide Well, now I feel like an ass…
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya you shouldn't. Totally understand how you'd have felt I was criticising you. No offence meant and none taken.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya PS+ games are a bit of a lottery, I've had the odd month here and there recently where there are no games that interest me. But as far as I'm concerned, you only need a few games in a year that you would have bought and you more than get your money's worth, because as you say we are paying to play online as well.
As an example, you say you like story driven and action games, I'm guessing you were very happy when you had inFamous: First Light as part of PS+? I thought that was very good. I also had a lot of fun with Strider, which should be of no surprise if you recognise my avatar is from Bionic Commando Rearmed, another awesome 2D action game from the early PS3 days.
Part of what makes the PS+ lottery great is it can introduce you to games you might not have looked twice at, but if you give them a try you might surprise yourself. You might find you almost overlooked one of the best games in a long time.
@LieutenantFatman First Light bored me to tears honestly.
I never really liked Fetch as a character though so that might be why.
Strider was top drawer in my opinion, thoroughly enjoyable.
Im flat out just not into any if that pixel art stuff.
I tried Transistor and that was a yawnfest, as was Axiom Verge? The "metroid" type game.
I think as Ive got older Ive moved with the times.
Retro is great but I still have a SNES, on which I could play the actual, far superior, Metroid.
Injustice was a great addition, I loved that game.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya Fair enough, you can be a bit more fussy than some over games, nothing wrong with that. It just means this PS+ lottery thing isn't going to work so well for you unfortunately. The model is never going to cater to everyones' specific tastes. We might get some more triple A games on plus as the PS4 moves away from its infancy as such an idea becomes more affordable to Sony, but whether that actually happens is anyone's guess. On a side note, we never got Axiom Verge on plus in the EU..
@LieutenantFatman It was Velocity 2X on reflection.
I agree it wont cater to all specifically and nor should it, but its evident that the "Indy" pool is limited genre wise and we see very similar game styles repeatedly. The rogue likes for example.
I would take something like Hover, Journey, Wander or something like that over most that has been offered thus far. Because their gameplay is vastly different to most.
