Re: 'This Is Unsustainable Madness': Modern Video Game Budgets Are Out of Control

species

@naruball I treat it as more of a proof of concept that you dont need hypertealistic graphics and 100+ hours of pointless busy work to make a great game.

Theres plenty of examples, lately with Mewgenics or Schelude 1. Plus i would argue that even those that dont perform as well are still better bang for buck for devs than most modern AAA.

@AhmadSumadi I think the lady in the picture looks visibly older to be honest. Can be argued that its “sharpened”, but i think it was intentional that they didnt make her as “sharp”.

I dont think everything needs to be hyper realistic, sometimes its what you dont show speaks the loudest.

As a technology its absokutely fine, its judt the way they chose to showcase it what sparked sutch a backlash.

@AhmadSumadi I believe the same thing, whether we like it or not, AI is the futute.

Altho it doesnt take a rocket scientist to determine that the problem with what was shown is that it completely obliterates the original artistic direction.

Edit- just look at the videos man, most “people” look older, some even get their expression changed. You cant argue it doesnt screw with original art style cmon

@somnambulance Damn its crazy to see sutch a different opinion, i respect it tho dont think otherwise, its just complete 180 to my own.

I feel like Concord was a horrible game, tried to be Overwatch with none of the charm and considerably worse gunplay, on top of that absolutely horrible and unlikable characters(the new horizon game is making the same mistake). I would give it 3/10, maximum 4.

To me thats why the game failed, not because of Sony. I feel like if the game is good people will play it, and vise versa. Regardless of marketting, just like Expedition33. Given its kinda hard comparing single player game to live service shooter, people are undeniably sick of those.

> The shame about gaming journalism is in 2026 that we’ve hit a point where even casuals need to research

This is so true tho, it used to be true in the past too, until Totalbiscuit era.
Now its coming back i think and its sad because it keeps lot of people from gaming.

Re: PS Studios Show Support for Marathon's PS5 Launch with Brilliant Artwork

@somnambulance I find it the opposite, i find most reviews and articles extremely biased.

Ofcourse people like you dont need reviews, you seem extremely well informed.
But if someone who doesnt read any of the internet drama or watch any videos comes to the article about Concord and reads how it “beat the hate” and how great it is, they might buy it only for it to shut down week later.

I find that dishonest and irresponsible, and since complacency is the enemy of progress i think its good to be vocal about it.

Re: Site News: Where's Our Marathon PS5 Review?

species

Sounds like you just dont want to repeat a Concord review scenario, so you wait for how public reacts and tailor your review to that. If they want money now, the game should be rated now.
The argument you made only really works in EA games, which this isnt.

Re: PS Studios Show Support for Marathon's PS5 Launch with Brilliant Artwork

@somnambulance @Northern_munkey
They gave Concord 7! The whole review is absolutely hillarious in retrospect.

7 puts it the same group with some genuinely good games that are absolutely worth your money. Concord isnt one of them.
I feel bad for people that dont read into this “echochamber” and actualy bough the game based on the review.

Thats the exact opposite of honest, thats misleading.

Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Story Will Continue in New HBO TV Show

species

@Athrum Yee, i would even extend it to people not playing any proper RPG with actually good writing. Its not necesseraly derogative term i think, at least not for me.

Imagine if youre a football fan for example and you took me to the worst game in history, I, not even knowing any rules, nor watched any good plays would be entertained just because the ball is moving.

Another good example is the Fallout show, completely crapping on the legacy and story of the old games, but “normies” are entertained just because they show a power armor or a nuka cola.

The BG3 characters are all pretry badly written, albeit covered by stellar voice acting, with exception of maybe Astarion and Laezel(both still subpar tho). All with their millenial jokes and jargon absolutely kill any sense of immersion.
It all comes out in act3 where, for some reason, the devs really had to tie it to the old BG games with the dead three making the villains flat as all hell and introducing several plot holes.

I agree with you on Divinity tho, while also pretty subpar writing, it has some interrsting characters and definetly held by combat that is actually optimized for a game instead of tabletop dnd.

Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Story Will Continue in New HBO TV Show

@RBMango What are you talking about? The writing was absolutely horrible. Cringey with ton of plotholes.

What “made it tick” is that its somewhat faithful representation of the stupidity that is 5th gen. So normies were all over it.

DEFINETLY not the writing lol.
