@RoomWithaMoose but that's my point . Palworld is everywhere that Pokémon isn't Available!!!!! 😆. As there is a gap in the market on those platforms for a Pokémon lite style game. Even though it's a survival game at heart which makes it a different experience.
@Drago201 I just re looked it up again. the sales chart was based on the end of year US sales. which had Ghost of Yotei at 3rd spot to Forza Horizons 10th spot. It was rumoured that GoY had hit 4 million in sales by December. After it's 3.3 million launch. So after looking at other factors in other regions like Europe where Forza was 5th to GoY 11th . Forza was speculated to have only shifted 3-4 million units not the initial 5 million reported earlier. But until both Sony & Microsoft release numbers it's all speculation.
@RoomWithaMoose Nintendo won't allow it & the developer is probably aware of that so its using it to get essentially free marketing for the game. We have seen it with other knock offs. Plus why was Palworld such a success on PC & Xbox at launch. As it's the closest users would get to a Pokémon like experience in a survival sandbox world on there platform. Would it have been successful if Pokémon was a multiplatform game? Probably not. But due to the lack of availability on platforms outside Nintendo there is a market for them. So yes in a way is a blatant rip off & leeching. But you can't say it's not about availability.
@Drago201 Forza didn't sell 5 million. It sold less than Ghost of Yotei from what an end of year sales chart said. So it got revised to being 3 million
@ButterySmooth30FPS only COD has produced big numbers though. Sea of Thieves produced supposedly 2 million & Forza Horizon 5 is meant to have sold 3 million. That's the same as Horizon: Zero Dawn did at 2.2 million & God of War 2018 at 3.3 million did on Steam but that isn't enough for Playstation fanboys. Pentinent, HiFi Rush, Doom the Dark Ages, The Outer Worlds 2 all failed miserably. So it's funny how it works for Xbox being on PS5 but it doesn't for Playstation on PC when sales are flat.
@JPEGMakima unfortunately games like this exist on PS5, Xbox & PC due to both Pokémon & Zelda being exclusive to Nintendo hardware. Plus developers see a market for it on rivals hardware.
@get2sammyb Microsofts whole next gen strategy got the thumbs up by the EU. When they were investigated under the Digital Markets Act. When they got named a gatekeeper like Apple, Amazon, & Google. Xbox passed due to the disc drive allowing competitive sales of software. Both Playstation & Nintendo will face similar scrutiny as regulation gets stricter. As Playstation is facing a £2 billion lawsuit against store pricing & a monopoly in digital games & dlc content. Apple lost a similar case last year. Nintendo's digital key cards could land them in hot water at some point also if it becomes the default way to play Switch 2. games
@Dog_Biscuits true 1.5% doesn't sound a lot to be fair. But Playstation wasn't fully committed either. Just like their not on other platforms. But they launched a handful of titles. Which still resulted in 33% of all revenue for Playstation 1st party studios. Why will they give that up!!!
What brand damage. A small minority of fanboys crying isn't gonna do much. As we have had 4 years of PC releases & a few titles on the Switch & Xbox. The PS5 is still about to hit 100 million units. Even Jim Ryan's disastrous live service push hasn't slowed them. Playstation is carried by casual gamers. So they won't care if games are on PC as long as COD, GTA, Fortnite, Roblox & sports games are available.
People look at Microsoft as an example. But most users associate Microsoft with PC due to Windows. People don't with Playstation. Xbox doesn't advertise there products. Playstation does. I see adverts everywhere. Xbox was a small division within Microsoft till lately. Playstation is Sony's money maker.
Playstation could release day & date on PC. I'd still think it wouldn't hurt them. As Playstation is a strong brand & is associated with console gaming.
Why it doesn't make sense. Sony's financial report in late 2025 said that non PlayStation software including PC resulted in 33% of all revenue for Playstation 1st party studios between 2022- March 2025. At $656 million. It's now $1.2 billion from the latest round of financial figures.
Playstation isn't gonna give up 33% of its first party revenue!!!!
@Dog_Biscuits but it doesn't make sense. If early financial reports state that Sony makes 33% of all 1st party studio revenue from non PlayStation platforms including PC ports. The shareholders would be up in arms if they stopped 😆. Specially when there is no evidence that it has hurt the brand when it comes to sales.
An analysis of Sony's financials from the last few years indicates that selling in-house games on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store is becoming increasingly beneficial. Between fiscal years 2022 and 2024, sales of PC titles might have grown from less than a fifth to almost a third of total first-party PlayStation game revenue.
Sony revealed that sales of non-PlayStation software exceeded 96 billion yen, or approximately $656 million, for the fiscal year ending March 2025.
@themightyant I personally don't see anything to combat other than the Switch 2. Playstation hasn't lost anything by bringing titles to other platforms. Whatever benefits Xbox may get from having Playstation games on the next Xbox. Is offset by the fact that Xbox games will be on the PS6 & the console could be half the price. Plus the Steam machine is limited due to it Linux system. As the bulk of favourite shooters aren't compatible due to anti cheat software & then add valves limited capability to manufacture it's hardware.
I never bought the argument that Lego had full control. As they'd probably have put it on Xbox as well like every other past Lego game. Plus why would Sony allow a deal that locks them out of any decision making of where one of its most popular franchises gets played?
@themightyant even valve said the Steam machine won't be a threat to current consoles. I'd suspect Sony would look at the Steam Deck as reference to the competition including the switch. As for the next Xbox. I think it depends on the new management. If it does bring back some form of exclusivity & starts expanding it's marketing department. Then maybe Playstation may see them as a threat. But if nothing changes then the next Xbox will be a niche product. I never bought the whole PC players will buy a PS5 for sequels. I don't think the Sony excecs did either. Specially when they mention PC with cloud & mobile as areas of growth. They are aware that by abandoning PC ports they will loose those that would never shift. Unfortunately Piracy will always be a problem. as you'll get PS5 emulators to play Ghost of Yotei & Saros due to the lack of PC ports. I could play Playstation games on my Xbox in dev mode if I wanted. Look at the hassle Nintendo has with emulation. They'd make a fortune if they had an online service on PC to play old games.
@themightyant the Forza Horizon 5 selling 5 million got debunked in January as Ghost of Yotei was higher on a yearly sales chart. So they recon it's more likely 3 million. But selling on PC hasn't weakened the Playstation brand 😆. That's fanboy hysteria!!!!. Playstation still heavily backs the PS5. Sales of the console are also nearly identical to the PS4's. As for sales of Steam games. They tanked after the whole PSN requirement locked out over 170 countries. Even after the restrictions were sorta lifted. It was still required for online play. Effecting Ghost of Tsushima in 2024. If you want a better indication of sales check out Stellar Blade which didn't require PSN. It was meant to be Playstations best selling PC port. Selling 1 million in 3 days.
@Nei but are Xbox games successful on PS5. You all say that Playstation PC ports don't make a great deal to Playstation financials. But Sea of Thieves was meant to have sold 2 million on PS5. That was the same as Horizon: Zero Dawn did on Steam with 2.2 million. Forza Horizon 5 reportedly sold 3 million. Like God of War 2018 did on Steam. With 3.3 million. Spiderman 2 700,000 on Steam is reportedly more than the Outer Worlds 2 recently sold on PS5.
@Grumblevolcano Astro games would be hard to port due to the use of haptic controls. So it would either need to be fully reworked which kills the whole point of the game. Make it a VR title on PC which again limits it's appeal or just don't bother.
@headmold obviously the live service titles would be a constant revenue stream if they are successful. But big franchises like Spiderman & Wolverine would sell well if released a year on Steam. Plus the PC ports of big Playstation IPs did well before PSN was forced . As blocking access to 100+ countries is a great business idea. Hardly surprising after backlash it was made optional. But Its funny how Playstation PC push is a waste of time bringing in 2%. But Xbox games on Playstation is for survival. But successful older titles like Sea of Thieves which was meant to have sold 2 million units & Forza Horizon 5 has been mentioned to have sold 3.3 million is the same as Horizon Zero Dawn & God of War 2018 did on Steam.
@RedRiot193 if any one or all of Marathon, 4Loop & Fairgames. Which are live service titles do decently like Helldivers 2 on PC. That would add growth to the 2%. Hopefully PlayStation won't sabotage themselves this time around with demands like mandatory PSN requirement which previously cost them a huge amount of sales. But I agree with the day & date with single player titles NOT!!! Happening anytime soon
@LowDefAl you may be correct. It may not come out or it could be reworked. Either way it won't make a dent in PlayStation sales to be seen as a threat from Sony.
@headmold but the Steam machine & Xbox Magnus won't hinder Playstation. As they'll be niche products. If anything they'll help growth of Playstation PC titles. It's only fanboys that hate the idea.
@Juanalf maybe for Playstation 1st party studios. Which I still think specific titles will have a specific timed exclusivity. But I don't see 3rd party limiting themselves to just PS5 exclusivity. When they were allowed PC sales previously. As people complain that 2% is nothing. Try explaining to the Sony board why they will ditch an extra 2% of sales when it hasn't effected PlayStation console sales.
The Steam machine won't be a rival. Look at the Steam Deck to Nintendo Switch sales. Valve only sells on its website. As for the Xbox Magnus. If it's double the price of the PS6 it not gonna compete well. Even with Steam, Epic, Gog etc. If anything they would help sales of PC titles making it a bigger revenue of growth. Which is what Sony wants.
@Avalanchee the % of sales would have been more on Steam if PlayStation hadn't made a lot of the single player games tied to a PSN account. Which for many countries don't have access to. Or you require a Playstation console to make one like Ukraine. Seriously limiting sales. Even Helldivers 2 had to be massively refunded when certain regions were locked out of play. They did change it with later ports but the damage was done.
So far 80% of titles to be published by Playstation in 2026 are heading to PC. But yet we are lead to believe there scalling back 😆.
Even though Playstation themselves said porting to PC is like printing money. But then the same insiders said that God of War Sons of Sparta was to be a multiplatform title before the last State of Play. Which didn't happen 😆.
@Theamazing1 I think Gran Turismo 7 would sell well on any new platform its released on. Plus it would give the game maybe a few more years of support due to the influx of new players. But modern Playstation seems to do the opposite of what players want. So probably pure speculation.
So the newly appointed Senior Director of Multiplatform and Account Management finally has an IP to manage lol. Gran Turismo makes sense. As it's a live service title. We heard last year of a potential canceled PC port. Now a Switch 2 build. Stranger things have happened. But until it's announced. Pure speculation.
@TrollOfWar to be fair Bluepoint could have helped Nixxes port games to all non PlayStation platforms & made Sony a ton of cash. But it looks like instead of screwing over gamers first with increased costs. They'll cut jobs to reinvest the cash elsewhere.
Unfortunately this decision explains the Namco Bandai Japanese posting earlier last month. I guess it's cheaper to out source remaster/remakes to them than to fully pay Bluepoint.
@Uromastryx I'm sure it was insomniac that said. Smaller AA size titles was the way to go to get more games out & maximise revenue over one AAA. So it looks like once Wolverine is out that could be the future strategy. Meaning £30-£50 price tags for smaller titles.
Then increase of PS plus. Xbox added Ubisoft classics & Fortnite Crew to justify the increase & got burned badly. So Sony needs to be delicate in the way they increase it.
@UltimateOtaku91 games prices will creep up. Look at the price for the new God of War Sons of Sparta Spin. A lot of people complained it isn't worth the £30 price tag. It should have been more in line with other indie titles. £14.99 - £19.99.
We aren't sure how many exclusive deals the previous management of Square Enix signed before they ditched the plan. Considering the length of development. Even for smaller titles.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner considering the rising cost of hardware. We may see it in our lifetime. All three on one platform. But it will more likely be because Sony & Microsoft leave hardware behind for there own cloud services & port to Nintendo's Switch.
@PuppetMaster no evidence 😆. Phil Rosenberg, SVP of Global Partner Development and Relations at Sony Interactive Entertainment. He said in an interview that his Content Ventures team at Sony is excellent at identifying new franchises and bringing them on. They have discovered games like Stray, Genshin Impact, Black Myth Wukong, Stellar Blade, and more.
All the above games were all Playstation console exclusives.
I mentioned World not Wilds. Monster Hunter Worlds didn't release in Asia on Xbox till 2024. Capcom was & still is one of Xbox's biggest publishers in Asia. Plus there is plenty of articles of Japanese games being region locked due to exclusivity deals.
@PuppetMaster Sony did market it. In China. Sony also had exclusive deals with capcom for Monster Hunter Worlds in Japan & didn't sing & dance about it.
@naruball it makes perfect sense. As I said when Xbox announced that Ninja Gaiden 4 was to be multiplatform. That it would cause problems for Playstation & Nintendo getting 3rd party exclusives in the future. I guess this is Playstations solution.
@Art_Vandelay I don't assume anything. I also believe that the reason Xbox is loosing ground to Playstation isn't due to PC & it's multiplatform strategy. But the lack of any form of advertising & it's lack of identity in the eyes of customers. Compared to both Nintendo & Playstation.
@Art_Vandelay people associate Microsoft with Windows PC gaming. So the jump is easier for Xbox users. As both are heavily integrated these days with play anywhere. Games pass, free cross saves etc. If Playstation does the same then I'd agree but ATM you'd have to start from scratch.
@Fiendish-Beaver Your correct. Until it comes directly from Sony it's all speculation. But if this gen has taught us anything. You can't take nothing for granted.
@UltimateOtaku91 definitely 100%. It's either like you said Monster Hunter. Or Destiny. In which you have the co op campaign. Plus separate online/PVP. But instead of flying to different planets. You get to pick which part of the world you play. So you get to experience different eco systems. Including characters, lore etc.
@Max_the_German it will be interesting to see what is being cooked for the PS5 Horizon online game. I don't think it's similar to Horizon Steel Frontier. As a full blown MMO. As they'd be better just releasing NCSOFT's game also on PS5. A co op game with full campaign. With a separate online, PvP & Battle Royale mode. Or it could end up looking like Destiny.
@Oram77 we still have the game awards coming this winter. But if not hopefully next year. But like you say it depends if it's ready to release within a 8 month period.
@Max_the_German I think it depends on what kind of game the PS5 one is. As it could be a co op Horizon. With a full blown campaign. That just plays like Zero Dawn & Forbidden West. But with the option to add a friend.

Re: 'Not Likely': Spider-Man 2 Dev Crushes Xbox Port Dreams
I wonder what happened to the Senior Director, Multiplatform & Account Management position? If they filled it or scrapped it?
Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Believes Exclusives Make Consoles 'Sing'
@PsBoxSwitchOwner considering the rising cost of hardware. We may see it in our lifetime. All three on one platform. But it will more likely be because Sony & Microsoft leave hardware behind for there own cloud services & port to Nintendo's Switch.
Re: PS5 Will Be the Only Console You Can Play Phantom Blade Zero for at Least 12 Months
Re: PS5 Will Be the Only Console You Can Play Phantom Blade Zero for at Least 12 Months
@PuppetMaster Sony did market it. In China. Sony also had exclusive deals with capcom for Monster Hunter Worlds in Japan & didn't sing & dance about it.
Re: Sony's All-In on Exciting PS5 Action RPG The God Slayer, Despite an Xbox Version Existing
@naruball it makes perfect sense. As I said when Xbox announced that Ninja Gaiden 4 was to be multiplatform. That it would cause problems for Playstation & Nintendo getting 3rd party exclusives in the future. I guess this is Playstations solution.
Re: Sony Estimated to Have Made $1.5 Billion from Steam, But the Novelty Is Wearing Off
@Art_Vandelay I don't assume anything. I also believe that the reason Xbox is loosing ground to Playstation isn't due to PC & it's multiplatform strategy. But the lack of any form of advertising & it's lack of identity in the eyes of customers. Compared to both Nintendo & Playstation.
Re: Sony Estimated to Have Made $1.5 Billion from Steam, But the Novelty Is Wearing Off
@Art_Vandelay people associate Microsoft with Windows PC gaming. So the jump is easier for Xbox users. As both are heavily integrated these days with play anywhere. Games pass, free cross saves etc. If Playstation does the same then I'd agree but ATM you'd have to start from scratch.
Re: Sony Estimated to Have Made $1.5 Billion from Steam, But the Novelty Is Wearing Off
@Deadlyblack then you had the psn login saga. Which killed sales as it restricted regions that games could be sold in for later ports.
Re: 'Very Vague' Rumour Claims Sony May Scale Back PC Ports of PS5 Games
@Fiendish-Beaver Your correct. Until it comes directly from Sony it's all speculation. But if this gen has taught us anything. You can't take nothing for granted.
Re: Mobile MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers Seems to Have Captured Lots of Attention Already
Re: Mobile MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers Seems to Have Captured Lots of Attention Already
Re: Mobile MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers Seems to Have Captured Lots of Attention Already
@Oram77 we still have the game awards coming this winter. But if not hopefully next year. But like you say it depends if it's ready to release within a 8 month period.
Re: Mobile MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers Seems to Have Captured Lots of Attention Already
@Max_the_German I think it depends on what kind of game the PS5 one is. As it could be a co op Horizon. With a full blown campaign. That just plays like Zero Dawn & Forbidden West. But with the option to add a friend.
