@Art_Vandelay I don't assume anything. I also believe that the reason Xbox is loosing ground to Playstation isn't due to PC & it's multiplatform strategy. But the lack of any form of advertising & it's lack of identity in the eyes of customers. Compared to both Nintendo & Playstation.
@Art_Vandelay people associate Microsoft with Windows PC gaming. So the jump is easier for Xbox users. As both are heavily integrated these days with play anywhere. Games pass, free cross saves etc. If Playstation does the same then I'd agree but ATM you'd have to start from scratch.
@Fiendish-Beaver Your correct. Until it comes directly from Sony it's all speculation. But if this gen has taught us anything. You can't take nothing for granted.
@UltimateOtaku91 definitely 100%. It's either like you said Monster Hunter. Or Destiny. In which you have the co op campaign. Plus separate online/PVP. But instead of flying to different planets. You get to pick which part of the world you play. So you get to experience different eco systems. Including characters, lore etc.
@Max_the_German it will be interesting to see what is being cooked for the PS5 Horizon online game. I don't think it's similar to Horizon Steel Frontier. As a full blown MMO. As they'd be better just releasing NCSOFT's game also on PS5. A co op game with full campaign. With a separate online, PvP & Battle Royale mode. Or it could end up looking like Destiny.
@Oram77 we still have the game awards coming this winter. But if not hopefully next year. But like you say it depends if it's ready to release within a 8 month period.
@Max_the_German I think it depends on what kind of game the PS5 one is. As it could be a co op Horizon. With a full blown campaign. That just plays like Zero Dawn & Forbidden West. But with the option to add a friend.
@Fiendish-Beaver this rumour means nothing to be fair. It comes days after the Horizon MMO gets announced for PC over the PS5. With confirmation it was Sony's decision!!! But we are lead to believe that PC ports are on the back burner. Plus they were looking at hiring a Senior Director of Multiplatform & Account Management back in July. To help go more multiplatform. They even praised Xbox users for recent success of ports of Helldivers 2 & MLB the Show.
They were advertising they wanted to expand further back in July.
Vice President, Commercial Management as Senior Director of Multiplatform & Account Management, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the global commercial strategy for PlayStation Studios software titles across all digital platforms beyond PlayStation hardware, including Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile. This role is accountable for optimizing title profitability, ensuring cross-functional alignment, and leading a high-performing team focused on multiplatform expansion, mid-range commercial planning, and platform partner management.
I wonder if it's Asia first. Then if successful it will launch in the west on the rumoured PS launcher, Steam, PS5 & mobile. Then maybe future expansion on Switch 2 & Xbox if really successful.
@StitchJones I'm not shooting the messenger. But if the hybrid Xbox is a PC. Then technically console exclusives means nothing to them if more companies still bring games to PC day 1.
@GeeEssEff why wouldn't Sony want a PC launcher on the hybrid Xbox. They'd get 100% of the revenue from it. I could also see Sony doing a deal with Xbox not just to advertise it heavily. But even support it if it's a full blown Playstation store.
@11001100110zero I can't see hardware disappearing either as it will be the showroom. The place you can have all of PlayStation/ Xbox services on one purpose built device. But like you said the numbers don't lie & PlayStation like Microsoft realize that cornering yourself into a small portion of a market doesn't continuously bring in more money. The amount of players they have ignored over the years is crazy. But that is slowly changing.
@Scottyy I could see Sony invest more in support studios to help its current studios. To make sure quality is still to the highest. I can still see indie titles still having exclusivity deals.
@Scottyy why!!! Sony will still provide a console for you & I. But allow others who wouldn't entertain the thought of playing on a games console. The same opportunity to play great games.
@UltimateOtaku91 I believe that the portal & streaming it's PS+ tiers is but the first stage. I can see Sony bringing its whole PlayStation store to cloud & offer just a cloud only PlayStation+ tier in the future. I can understand your argument about trying to bring more to PlayStation hardware. But try tell teenagers who use their phone for everything to give it up to play games on a $500 PlayStation. It's not gonna happen!!! I think Sony has now realized that. So it plans to bring it's games to them.
@Scottyy I can see Sony doing what Xbox is doing later this year. Which is to put all its services on the cloud. So users that don't want to buy a console can use any online/Bluetooth enabled device of their choice. To stream games they either have rented/purchased.
I still think that Sony see's the Xbox platform in the future on PC, cloud & mobile. There push to be on any online device makes them hard to ignore. But those who do support it could reap the rewards if successful.
@11001100110zero I think it's more Sony looks at its current data from it's own live service titles on Xbox. Maybe had discussions with Xbox over there current strategy of porting games to Playstation. But while on the subject we're told of Xbox's push into cloud & mobile gaming. Then realised that if successful all involved could make a lot of money.
@UltimateOtaku91 if Nintendo released another traditional console after the Wii U. They'd have failed also. The Switch was a success due to Nintendo doing what it does best. Handheld gaming. Microsoft is doing now what it's does best & it's being a software company. You say Xbox exclusives on Playstation will tip the scale. But what happens if Helldivers 2 is the start of a similar plan? 3rd party exclusives are drying up due to higher costs. Plus players generally play the same 10 games on all platforms. I don't see the hybrid PC threatening Playstation 6. But I don't think that Microsoft had that in mind. What I do see that may threaten the dominance of hardware next gen. Is Xbox's cloud strategy of being on any online device the player chooses. As casuals will flock to this as well as the newer younger audience.
@get2sammyb people forget that their is already Destiny 2 & MLB the Show on Xbox for Sony to gather data from.
Plus I bet Sony is watching Xbox's push to get it's services on nearly every online device possible. & sees an opportunity to make money off it. As if successful that will be millions of players not interested in buying a console.
@UltimateOtaku91 Xbox is pretty much dead 😆😆😆. Look at the Wii U & what happened to Nintendo with the Switch when it became a hybrid. Like others have said. Sony wets the bed when it feels like it's invincible.
But I think Sony is playing nice with Microsoft. As now they are partners. They both see the future is expansion outside of just console hardware to cloud, mobile etc. So with that they will have new rivals. So by working together they will both succeed.
@ED_209 Xbox doesn't advertise any of its products anywhere. That's a big factor in its decline. As if consumers aren't aware of why they should buy a product. They won't. But both Sony & Nintendo have stalls in stores, advertise on TV, billboards etc. I'd say at best Sony will loose 2nd console owners & a few hardcore butt hurt players which may account for 10-20% of current PS5 owners. But could make it up in software sales from more users on all platforms.
@get2sammyb I think Sony is betting on Xbox to be more successful when it allows gamers to be able to play all purchased games from the Xbox store via its xcloud service later this year.
@Titntin yeah the YouTube podcasters unfortunately give PlayStation fandom a very bad name.
I thought it was gonna be everything as well until the CEO S Nadella during his last interview. Again said that he hated exclusives but said in some instances are needed. So confirmed that some exclusives will exist on Xbox. Looking at the sales figures of Pentinent & HiFi Rush I guess it could be niche AA titles. That's why I mentioned Avowed as it didn't sell well on Steam & potentially South of Midnight.
Indeed it is an exciting time to be a gamer.
@Titntin I agree the media is very biased. But the loyal hardcore PlayStation fanboys are more who I was referring to. You see them on YouTube like PRock77, Xvault etc. You occasionally see them on here & Pure Xbox also. I agree it is a big deal the shift from both Xbox plus PlayStation to be a platform & 3rd party publisher. I did see the figures & wasn't really surprised that Sea of Thieves was the best sold. Newer titles will more likely sell better. So it will be interesting what Microsoft does with that data. So is it big titles like Gears of War, Fable, Forza, Halo with Bethesda & Activision Blizzard. Does that mean Avowed & South of Midnight get ported. Again many unknowns.
@Grumblevolcano if the Last of Us double pack is announced for Switch 2 along with the PS5 & PC editions. The meltdown will be to epic proportions. Some fanboys haven't yet recovered from Playstation being at the last Switch Direct.
@naruball that's my point though. As a large portion of the Playstation community never had any intention to own an Xbox. So make excuses like the multiplatform release or had no games in the first place. Now it's a constant debate to which game is heading to Playstation on a daily basis.
It's funny how some are now using that Xbox going multiplatform as an excuse. Or Xbox had no games as a reason for never owning an Xbox. Then say id buy Halo, Gears of War, Fable, Forza 😆😆😆. Some of those games have been on Xbox for 20 years.

@Deadlyblack then you had the psn login saga. Which killed sales as it restricted regions that games could be sold in for later ports.
