@Art_Vandelay how did they misunderstood the question? As a sale on PC. Doesn't just benefit the user but also Sony. I still believe that PlayStation could put all there 1st party games on PC day 1 & still have a healthy console install base. As the bulk of Playstation users don't buy those games.
@Fyz306903 Playstation allowed publishers to release day 1 on PC. To gain console exclusivity. For certain titles etc. Will that continue or it it PS5/6 exclusivity or nothing? As only doing to in-house Devs makes little sense to be fair. Plus opens Sony up to more lawsuits. As this will help the app store monopoly cases.
I can see this being a short lived decision. All Sony need is a new law suit from disgruntled PC players. Like the monopoly app store ones being done in the US, Netherlands & UK. ABK etc. In which they could force Sony back out of exclusivity. Also what happens to future publishing deals with 3rd party devs. Is it PS5/6 exclusive or nothing for single player titles. As why would they want to go back to that? When Xbox & other publishers allow less restrictions.
@Fiendish-Beaver it's essentially a server check. Your PSN on your Playstation Pro will log onto the same server if it stays at your residence. So they use that as verification. If you move. The first time you log in. It will ask if it's you. As your PSN will ping off another server. It's common for Google mobile apps etc.
@ElectricWizard aye. It's funny as people said the other day that Xbox needs PlayStation. As there games were selling well. But in truth most have failed. Sea of Thieves & Forza Horizon 5 have sold the most. On Pure Xbox its been reported that Indiana Jones & Gear of War have sold decently. But like Playstation PC ports on Steam. It's been disappointing.
@Ajbr8687 Obsidian Entertainment said they expanded & were allowed to make games they wouldn't have. If they were still independent. Grounded was one of those titles. Playground games gamble making Fable probably wouldn't have happened. Inxile Entertainments new game Clockwork Revolution is it's biggest game to date. Double Fine's Psyconaughts 2 may have never released as Starbreeze collapsed leaving the game on limbo. Machine Games has expanded & opened a new studio. Now all Xbox studios get to release on any platform they wish. No more restrictions!!!
To be fair getting purchased by Playstation is a kiss of death this gen. So even the best managed can collapse spectacularly.
I guess you didn't read my previous post as I've been in the same situation. But like I said. Most people who have been in a company long enough to know how it works are never gonna like someone new tell them how to do things. People don't like change even if they have proof it's required. Seen it so many times.
@Northern_munkey I'm sure he was passionate. So was I when my work got taken over by a far bigger company. But sometimes that can cloud your judgement. Specially if you have been there for a long time. As people don't like change. But I get it also. The frustration of higher ups not caring. I'd hate to be a worker in the US.
@Boxmonkey like sports & movies before it. Once they become more mainstream & investment gets pumped into it. What made it special in the first place always dies.
@TheArt but they took exclusivity deals from Playstation. For Deathloop & Ghostwire Tokyo. Starfield was rumoured to be next. Which was what made Microsoft buy Bethesda.
To say Starfield suffered for it is a joke. It would have launched earlier in a far worse state.
@Balaam_ he kinda discredits himself. He calls Bethesda a well run developer & publisher. They were neither long before Microsoft took over. Fallout 4, 76 & Redfall were all on Tod Howard. Starfield was still a shell of a game with the extra development Microsoft gave them So I'd hate to think what it would have launched like without the delay. It's obvious they were strapped for cash to be bought by Microsoft. They had already taken two exclusivity deals with Playstation. Which Starfield was rumoured to be the third. He sounds like a typical scorned employee to be fair.
@IOI PC ports were for gamers who will never buy a Playstation. But with live service failing. Future mobile projects are dead. PC has fallen off a cliff. Playstation hardware exploding in price. With next gen possibly costing $1000. What does PlayStation do next!!!
PC & mobile failing just means more pain for PlayStation users in the long term. As next gen will suffer due to the ram crisis & potentially $700-$1000 consoles. So where does PlayStation growth that shareholders wish come from. Cloud maybe!!! Don't think it's there yet.
@AnginaPectoris all you are doing is coping. As I didn't realise you needed me to hold your hand & do the Google search for you. I provided the name of the anylist company & it's info. If your interested look it up.
@AnginaPectoris I did supply you evidence 😆😆😆. My previous post explained that an aniylst company newzoo found in releasing Playstation games on PC day & date resulted in having up to 44% share of sales. Compared to releasing years later reduced it to 13%. So far you have presented nothing to back your claim up?
@themaladroit people on here believe rumour/here say from so called insiders. But when a company that tracks sales data comes along. It must be wrong 😆 Playstation hire similar people to do the same.
@themaladroit what's a joke about it. Playstation said it themselves that porting games to PC has had no negative effects to its console business. Another said it was like printing money. So going by evidence that was provided by Playstation themselves. The brand is strong enough to be a publisher & platform holder. It's only fanboys that think differently!!!!
What I meant by the lack of confidence in its own products. Is that people think that PlayStation pulling it's single player games from Steam is due to increased competition from the Steam Machine & Xbox project Helix. Which is utter nonsense. Both will be niche products.
Yes. Studio closures have plagued the industry for many factors. But so you want anymore Playstation studios to close? If NO!!! Then why not support them to release to bigger audiences.
@AnginaPectoris where is this so called evidence. As most companies that used to do exclusives with Playstation either release on PC day 1 alongside the console version or less than a year later. There is talk that PC will overtake consoles in revenue by 2028.
@AnginaPectoris there is plenty of evidence. An aniylst company Newzoo did a study that showed that certain Playstation PC titles failed due to a lack of full commitment. Which is to be expected. Playstation titles that arrived on PC years after their console launch typically account for only 13% of the total player base during the first three months. In comparison, when games launch simultaneously on PC and PS5, the PC audience makes up around 44% of the total player base.
I'm sure people who want to play Retunal will. But considering the game came out long after the hype died. At full price. Competing with newer titles that can be similar priced or cheaper.
@themaladroit if Playstation stops PC ports of single player games & refuses day & date when prices of making games is in the hundreds of millions & closes studios instead. Just shows that they don't believe in there own products. As all evidence points over that last 4 years that PC ports haven't hurt sales of Playstation consoles. The brand is strong enough for various reasons for them to be a multiplatform publisher & platform provider. What is damaging the brand was the live service push that crippled most it studios. Stupidity expensive pricing & not it's tone death response to criticism. Plus the lack of communication to change
@AnginaPectoris Returnal sold 456k in its first 7 months & a Google search has said so far that 866k copies have been sold on PS5 at the start of 2026. The last we heard about PC. Icon Era stated 162k sales. That was 2 years after release of PS5 & at full $59.99 priced. If it was day 1. I bet it would have been comparable to the PS5.
So I disagree when it comes to smaller titles. As no one wants another studio closure.
Sony must be worried looking at the sales numbers of Marathon on the PS5 compared to the Xbox version. Especially when Fairgames, Horizon: Hunter Gathering & 4 Loop are just for PS5 & PC.
@Juanalf well Playstation is still technically a 3rd party publisher as they haven't announced that they are stopping any PC ports. So I don't see a difference if it's PC users wanting games from Sony or PS5 users wanting from Square Enix.
@RoomWithaMoose I don't think so. Your correct they could co exist. But a lot of the success could be that it had little competition on those platforms.
@HeeHo depends on what the courts demand I guess. If you have a bank card linked to your PSN account. They could deposit the cash into that account. They could message all UK users with a link to claim the cash. Or simply give the user an offer of cash, credit or PS plus to the value agreed by the courts.
@Strikke that's why I'd say it could well be more down to Nintendo. Than Microsoft. As we don't know what terms Nintendo agreed to for exclusivity. As a PC port could have been agreed to be released later. But with Square Enix wanting to be more multiplatform & supports Xbox play anywhere. Nintendo may have agreed as Xbox is no threat & it also keeps good relations with Square Enix.
I do suspect that it will hit PS5 at some point though.
@DennisReynolds funny how everyone is pointing at Microsoft making the deal with Square Enix. When it could have been Nintendo who has allowed the game to be released on Xbox & PC.
@Oram77 console piracy has always been a problem also. The original Playstation was notorious for being chipped. Sega Dreamcast was easily pirated. The Playstation 5 was recently jailbroken. But got patched.
You can also play Playstation games on the Xbox Series X/S through developer mode. Which your not meant to.
@darylb24 if you are a UK resident you get automatically enrolled if you have purchased at least 1 item from the Playstation store within a specific time period. But if Sony is found guilty here. There isn't anything stopping anyone outside of the UK filing a complaint to there local government regulator. As people moan online about unfair practices rather than complain to the services available that can do something about it.
Legislators will take all information into consideration. Obviously they'll ask why consoles are any different to IOS, Android & Windows in regard that they need an exclusive walled garden to function. How it helps promote competition & the benefits to consumers. Also Sony's investment into the brand. Running costs etc.
But Sony's argument is focused on online safety, fraud & years of investment. Which is similar to Apple & Google's previous arguments. Which were unsuccessful in the UK courts.
@LogicStrikesAgainwell not really. Cloud integration could bridge the gap. Like what happens in Microsoft's flight simulator. Its one way you could buy a cheaper console & get the same level of performance as a more premium one.
@belmont the EU's Digital Markets Act. Apple, Amazon, Google & Microsoft got investigated & found guilty of being a gatekeeper.
Apple & Google were forced to open up to 3rd party app stores. Forced to allow 3rd party payments through web browser & stop prioritising 1st party apps over competition.
Amazon has to prompt customers to grant consent for personalized experiences and to use their personal information from Amazon services to show personalized ads. Data Portability: Customers can share their data generated. Advertising Transparency & allow a better User Experience
Microsoft. The ability to uninstall the Windows store in Windows 10+11. All default apps to be fully deleted. Listing & choosing a default browser/search engine during instillation. Auto sign in scrapped.
@LogicStrikesAgain I don't think the cheaper console model will disappear. But for it to continue it will have to be like the current Xbox Series S or Switch 2. So attitudes to reduced powered hardware has to change. So will be interesting to see what Sony does with the PS6.
@LogicStrikesAgain with the rising cost of hardware it was coming to an end anyway. Nintendo stopped after the WiiU. Playstation & Xbox started this gen. So say the PS6 is $800 but it's tech is worth $1,200 but we have Playstation store pricing. But the Xbox Magnus is $1,500 but you get competitive pricing that could allow Steam level pricing due to higher competition. Over the consoles lifecycle you paying upfront to save later.
@AverageGamer I mentioned this case the other day & how the ramifications could change how UK PlayStation gamers play in the future. But I got ignored.
@UltimateOtaku91 if Playstation was forced. Then Xbox, Epic, Tencent & others could create stores using already released Playstation software & then add future titles. They then would have the freedom to set prices, create partnerships with developers & publishers by offering better rates than the current Playstation stores 30%. They'd also get to keep all the revenue. Xbox would be able to freely get Games Pass on Playstation without it being blocked by Sony. Xbox, Steam, Nvidia, Tencent & others would be able to offer their own cloud gaming services also to compete with Playstations.
@UltimateOtaku91 yes Playstation can be forced!!!. If this case rules that PlayStation breaches UK anti competitive rules. Then they could rule that the CMA gets involved to do a full investigation. They could force PlayStation to open to rival stores if found guilty.
@RoomWithaMoose your correct. The next Xbox is gonna be digital only as it's essentially a PC. So new anti competitive rules like the EU's Digital Markets Act has forced Microsoft to open up to rivals. But with this lawsuit & the potential fallout of dynamic pricing. Playstation might have to follow if there not careful.
