@Chouzetsu And the DualShock 3! I'm not a very big fan of Minecraft, but my 4 year old little brother is. He plays the PS3 version non-stop and even streams Minecraft YouTube Let's Plays on his 2DS. I'll be picking up the Vita version for him when I babysit.
In 20 years when I do a replay of The Last of Us with my children, I will be playing it on the system it was designed for. The PlayStation 3. The version which blown us away again and again. I am a very nostalgic person, so I find re-releases and remakes lose some of that magic the original release had. For example the 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time, I feel, was lacking in comparison to the original N64 version. That said, I'll own a PS4 and probably the TLOU remake too by then.
I don't buy it. Our [Australia's] completely non-secretive, trustworthy government has been on a crusade saying that it's impossible to manufacture and create things in our country! Maybe this Borderlands not-sequel-prequel sends you to the moon to obliterate the Carbon and Mining Taxes.
Unless this is a great April Fool's Joke, I am happy with this move. I know most of you have already upgraded to the PS4 and would hate my opinion right now, but I, personally, know many who aren't interested in next-gen but are interested in coming games (Destiny, Watch Dogs, etc). Leaving them out is just money left on the table. Not everyone is a hardcore enthusiast who needs next-gen. In regards to hardware restrictions, kill them off though.
Sorry Sony, I'm willing to wait even longer for the Wii U version. I have to dodge spoilers for months, but I'll willing to do that. It's been far too long a wait, can't give up now.
I suppose I'm one of the very few who prefer the DualShock 3 over not only the DS4, but the 360/One controllers. I like the slipperiness of the sticks and the "awkwardness" of the triggers. I don't know why, but I do.
OT: I feel bad for the guy, I hope he gets a refund, but it is ultimately user-error... Not that I agree it was.
It looks great for the Vita, I hope it's a solid 30FPS. I really want an excuse to uninstall Borderlands 2 on my PS3, but I won't pay more than $25-30.
I'm one of those fighting for the PS3's dominance on Australia's charts. I alone have bought three PS3's in 4 months. My second-hand 40GB, a 160GB Slim Big-W were clearing for $148 and a 12GB Super-Slim for my backroom. This isn't counting my family and friends who bought one or two over Chrissy.
FYI; Vegemite tastes far better than "Marmite". You Brits just aren't happy little Vegemites. Oh, and who sucks at the Ashes...?
Police themed Battlefield? EA, EA... My dear beloved Battlefield... What have you done to it. It was once great, my memories of 1942 will never die, but post-BF3 you've just milked it, more and more and more, until it's become a carcass of it's former self. Shame really, BC2 was my highlight of the series.
@BornOfEvil May I ask why the name Mario makes your blood boil? I know a good Italian restaurant down the road owned by a Mario, does his delicious foodstuffs make your blood boil? I'm just joking by the way, I have similar beefs with names too.
Gugugughhh.... The Last of Us on the Wii U..... The thought of dual screen support, ala ZombiU, would be insanely gorgeous. PS4 GOTY with Vita features?... OT: Even if Sony stops making these chipsets, I'm sure Nintendo has enough surplus Wii U stock to last awhile, until they find a new supplier. Nothing to worry about, folks.
When the Vita was announced in 2011, I proclaimed it would be dead within 3 months and the 3DS was the reincarnation of Jesus, that had no faults. But, early last year I snapped out of my cult-like Nintendo following, all thanks to Gravity Rush and the handheld that could, the Vita. I got my Vita as a trade for my old PC and quickly fell in love with it, so much it's replaced my 3DS for handheld of choice. Even if the Vita dies, it's charger will always be welcomed in my wall.
@k_andersen Who are you with? I'm with Telstra and (according to speedtest.net), I get an average of 12.7mb/s. I'm hailing from Perth, the state with the worst net in the country with the worst net in the developed world. Go figure. The bad FTTN NBN isn't being developed in my area until 2019. Yay.....
I just got my PS3 in June last year, so I have a massive backlog. I haven't bought a game for it in months, just happily playing the PS+ titles (same thing with my Vita). That's good as it leaves me with the funds for my Wii U and 3DS. That said, I'm getting Dark Souls II and Persona 5 (thank you region free!) at release. The PS4 will wait until mid/late 2015.
@RaymanFan2 I'm Australian and I too, can't see this working in our region, unless they have rendering servers in Sydney or something. That said, I'm from Perth, on the other side of Australia, so I'm screwed either way. This hype makes me sad. My Vita is sad with no Last of Us.
I know it's marketing vitriol, but it's not a good thing for the PS4 to be maxed out so early in the system's life. For example, the PS3 arguably just was maxed this year with The Last of Us, 8 years into it's life. Not to mention the easy to program x86-64 architecture and, dare I say it, mid-range specs that are already under stress (1600x900 Battlefield 4). Devs can't have the excuse that it's hard to program for like they did with the Cell. I understand RAM and Engine optimisations can help, but it really can only take so far. It's looking even worse for the Xbox One.
For purely selfish reasons, I don't want Rockstar to release a PS4/Xbone version. As I don't plan on getting a PS4 until 2015, even 2016, I don't want the PS3 Online community to dwindle and dry up even faster with a next-gen port. Not to mention I pretty much bought a PS3 for GTA V...
@Giygas_95 I agree, I own the Wii U version, but I've played the 3DS demo and the 3D is special. I kinda wish Renegade Kid would update the home console versions to support stereoscopic 3D, it would be epic.
Rumors that the Vita's been hacked 'eh...? I'm keeping mine at 3.00, thanks. I'm awaiting a phone hack for my Vita. I just can't take two devices around with me at the same time, my work pants are too small.
I love Sleeping Dogs. It's arguably my favourite non-Nintendo game from the previous gen. The game's atmosphere and detail is unrivalled., amplified by the high-res textures on PC. Also, dat music...
@get2sammyb But we are still paying for PS+ so shouldn't it included? Either that or at least charge us monthly/yearly to be able to use our discs on top of Plus.
I feel bad for those that were going to pick this up for the current-gen, I am picking this up for Wii U, so at least that version wasn't cancelled. At least you'll have GT6, I guess.
@jgrangervikings "After all, nobody wants to be that guy who spends his hard earned money on a system that dies a painful death with no support."
Sadly, that sums up my console gaming experience for decades. It sucks I tell ya, it's been the same conundrum since 1990. Master System... Nothing. N64.... Nothing. GC... Nothing. Wii U... Nothing. Vita... Nothing. Why do I pick the worst supported systems? I have no idea...
This is quite good news. I just got a PS3 and I'm already getting sick of the DS3, so this would be a welcome addition. It would also help the transition over to the PS4 in late 2014.
Very similar to the PSP E-1000 in look, specifically with the matte look. I have a feeling this is a reaction to the 2DS, but I still fail to see the Vita picking up anytime soon. The damage is done. I love my Vita, more so than my beloved 3DS, but the public aren't interested.
I see the whole point of this, but still, why? I would like to play my Vita on my tele, but I have my PS3 and Wii U for my gaming. The Vita should stay handheld, there is no point, there is the PS3/4 for that role. Also, how would the touch functions work? Sorry if this is answered somewhere, my Internet is slow today.
@get2sammyb It is quite exciting. I spent years on a Nintendo pedestal decrying the PS3 from it's price, to it's "stolen idea" of SixAxis and it's George Foreman grill-like looks, so when I matured and finally played the PS3 about 2 years ago, I wondered why I hated it. I'm embarrassed to knock such a wonderful machine.
Having completely skipped Sony's console systems this generation, I concede that I missed out on some insanely epic stuff. I bought a cheap 2nd hand 40GB PS3 a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by The Last of Us, I can't believe what I missed out on for the past 7 years. GTA V is pre-ordered absolutely and I'm not even remotely interested in the PS4 or XBone, as I have a glorious PS3 backlog that needs playing.
@MadchesterManc
Motorstorm RC Complete Edition (for Vita) is on sale right now!
Anyway, I've been playing Gran Turismo PSP on my Vita for a couple of days, because of the aforementioned sale and it's a blast. The Vita would be perfect for a GT game/port. If a handheld from 2005 could do it, a 2012 handheld can.
