Re: Visions of Mana (PS5) - Classic RPG Series Returns with Good But Flawed Intentions

Troubbble

In games I've played recently--one that immediately comes to mind is Triangle Strategy--the charmless/repetitive dialogue mostly seemed intended to pad the running time of the game and make it feel "meatier" than it actually was.

Personally, I would have been a lot more impressed if the dialogue had been pithier and less plentiful. If it's all going to be so by-the-numbers, I really don't need to sit through 50 hours of it.

Still interested in giving this game a chance, though.

Re: PS Portal Is By Far the UK's Most Popular Gaming Accessory Right Now

Troubbble

Curious what Portal owners think of it, since I received one for my birthday yesterday and am not sure how much use I'd get out of it. How dependent is it on a particularly strong internet connection? Is there noticeable lag? More often than not, I'd prefer playing on the big screen and I need to know whether I should keep this thing or trade it in for a few new games!

Re: Ubisoft Responds to Assassin's Creed Shadows Criticism, Apologises to Japanese Players

@IamJT I don't really disagree with much of what you said, except that corporate ESG ratings serve as a bit of a thumb on the scale when it comes to what type of messaging is permitted or encouraged.

And you're right that political ideas have always been infused into art, but again, it's the ham-handed and repetitive nature of the messages and character portrayals that I find most objectionable.

Re: Ubisoft Responds to Assassin's Creed Shadows Criticism, Apologises to Japanese Players

Two points:

1) This is hardly a matter of people insisting on strict historical accuracy in all video games. The real issue is that Ubisoft and others specifically represent the Yasuke story as an accurate one--because it's a story they happen to like--when that doesn't actually seem to be the case.

2) Relatedly, people aren't reacting to the choices made for this game in a vacuum. On its own, it would be a curiosity. The reason it's irritating is because it's in lockstep with the storytelling trend already happening across the industry. Ideological sensibilities are being forced again and again into creative works that never used to be so ham-handedly self-righteous.

From what I've seen, the main architect of the "Yasuke was a samurai" story has been the subject of an academic scandal, so Ubisoft's self-satisfied vision for this game no longer has much justification--particularly in light of the objections of those whose culture is being rewritten.

They're clearly worried at this point, but regardless, I'm sure there will be plenty of consumers out there eager to feast on more slop.

Re: Doubt Cast Over PS5 Pro Actually Releasing This Year

Troubbble

It would make a lot of sense for this to launch at a time that more closely coincides with the new Grand Theft Auto, since it's predicted that will only run optimally on a Pro and it's the most likely game to help move a lot of consoles. Not to mention the fact that there have been so few killer apps exclusive to PS5 that it's borderline insane to expect anyone to upgrade at this point.

Re: More Armored Core Games Likely in the Future, a 'Strong Will' for Them

Troubbble

@NEStalgia They may have patched that boss slightly to re-balance it, because I remember having the same exact experience on Day 1... Although it's hard to say, because I know I probably wasn't using the best possible strategy for it at that time either.

Either way, the key is to use your speed boost to fly directly into his face and attack the cockpit with melee strikes. In between, just focus on finding cover/avoiding damage.

Armored Core 6 was a lot of fun, I loved it.

At first it seemed daunting to try for an S-rank on every mission, but I recommend people go for it as it spices up the challenge and adds a lot of variety to the gameplay.

Don't get me wrong, you'll have to have a high threshold for frustration on certain levels, but it's super satisfying when you figure out how to ace them and the requirement to create very specific builds for certain challenges is a fun element which can mostly just be bypassed when playing through the game normally.

Re: Stellar Blade PS5 Dev Thanks Fans for 'Passion' Following Censorship Controversy

Troubbble

It's amusing seeing people trying to portray this as people being obsessed with how they "dress up their doll." I don't really care about cosmetic options in games, and to be honest, I find the uncensored fan-service style outfits pretty cheesy. But the real issue here goes beyond cosmetic options, and I think everyone understands that, whether they'll admit it or not.

There's a faction within gaming who think it's their right to determine what everyone else gets to enjoy. They've been obsessed for months with slamming Stellar Blade since it appeared not to cater to the new PC standard for how women in games should be portrayed. And normal people are completely fed up with hearing from them. Almost every game bends over backwards to cater to their ways of thinking, and they don't want to allow any exceptions--which is not only wrongheaded, it's obnoxious.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Adds Female Ballplayers to RPG-Inspired Road to the Show

Troubbble

@RBRTMNZ I have known a guy or two who pursued baseball as a career--although none of them ended up making it. But you're taking a sarcastic joke a bit literally.

In actuality, baseball games are somewhat different from games about space soldiers and cyborgs because professional baseball is something which actually exists in real life, and an MLB simulation is presumably intended to entertain people who enjoy that sport. If you think "baseball is as boring as Mom and apple pie" (whatever that means), maybe you're not the first person who should be consulted about what an MLB game should include.

If legitimate fans of baseball--people who might actually purchase this game--are excited about the addition... more power to them. I'd be interested to know whether they are.

Re: Sony Wants PS5 Games to Automatically Adjust the Difficulty While You Play

Troubbble

Agree with everyone who says that this should be an option but never forced on the player. This would negatively affect the gaming experience for me in a MAJOR way.

They may not be for everyone, but the hardest difficulty settings are usually the best way to learn how to play a game at a high level. And it's much more satisfying when you succeed.
