1) This is hardly a matter of people insisting on strict historical accuracy in all video games. The real issue is that Ubisoft and others specifically represent the Yasuke story as an accurate one--because it's a story they happen to like--when that doesn't actually seem to be the case.
2) Relatedly, people aren't reacting to the choices made for this game in a vacuum. On its own, it would be a curiosity. The reason it's irritating is because it's in lockstep with the storytelling trend already happening across the industry. Ideological sensibilities are being forced again and again into creative works that never used to be so ham-handedly self-righteous.
From what I've seen, the main architect of the "Yasuke was a samurai" story has been the subject of an academic scandal, so Ubisoft's self-satisfied vision for this game no longer has much justification--particularly in light of the objections of those whose culture is being rewritten.
They're clearly worried at this point, but regardless, I'm sure there will be plenty of consumers out there eager to feast on more slop.
It would make a lot of sense for this to launch at a time that more closely coincides with the new Grand Theft Auto, since it's predicted that will only run optimally on a Pro and it's the most likely game to help move a lot of consoles. Not to mention the fact that there have been so few killer apps exclusive to PS5 that it's borderline insane to expect anyone to upgrade at this point.
The story always has to be revised when revisiting anything not released in the last five years, for reasons we're all familiar with. After all, it would be an absolute SCANDAL if any of our current narratives or ideologies were contradicted in even the most minor of ways.
@NEStalgia They may have patched that boss slightly to re-balance it, because I remember having the same exact experience on Day 1... Although it's hard to say, because I know I probably wasn't using the best possible strategy for it at that time either.
Either way, the key is to use your speed boost to fly directly into his face and attack the cockpit with melee strikes. In between, just focus on finding cover/avoiding damage.
At first it seemed daunting to try for an S-rank on every mission, but I recommend people go for it as it spices up the challenge and adds a lot of variety to the gameplay.
Don't get me wrong, you'll have to have a high threshold for frustration on certain levels, but it's super satisfying when you figure out how to ace them and the requirement to create very specific builds for certain challenges is a fun element which can mostly just be bypassed when playing through the game normally.
Can't wait for next year, and extra excited that I should have a brand new home theater setup ready to go beforehand... Planning on revisiting the original Death Stranding with the Director's Cut to refresh myself on the characters and story before the sequel drops.
A lot of misguided racism accusations, and of course there are, because what day would be complete without that?
I could comment about the controversy, but why bother. The real issue is a broader one with Ubisoft, who I wouldn't buy another game from regardless of the protagonist.
This is the first I'm hearing that the creatives who made Rockstar great might be linking back up under a new banner... Whatever they're working on, they'll have my attention. I don't consider the current Rockstar to be the same company anymore.
It's amusing seeing people trying to portray this as people being obsessed with how they "dress up their doll." I don't really care about cosmetic options in games, and to be honest, I find the uncensored fan-service style outfits pretty cheesy. But the real issue here goes beyond cosmetic options, and I think everyone understands that, whether they'll admit it or not.
There's a faction within gaming who think it's their right to determine what everyone else gets to enjoy. They've been obsessed for months with slamming Stellar Blade since it appeared not to cater to the new PC standard for how women in games should be portrayed. And normal people are completely fed up with hearing from them. Almost every game bends over backwards to cater to their ways of thinking, and they don't want to allow any exceptions--which is not only wrongheaded, it's obnoxious.
@RBRTMNZ I have known a guy or two who pursued baseball as a career--although none of them ended up making it. But you're taking a sarcastic joke a bit literally.
In actuality, baseball games are somewhat different from games about space soldiers and cyborgs because professional baseball is something which actually exists in real life, and an MLB simulation is presumably intended to entertain people who enjoy that sport. If you think "baseball is as boring as Mom and apple pie" (whatever that means), maybe you're not the first person who should be consulted about what an MLB game should include.
If legitimate fans of baseball--people who might actually purchase this game--are excited about the addition... more power to them. I'd be interested to know whether they are.
This is bound to be very popular with my female friends. After all, so many of them are professional baseball players and/or striving toward that goal.
Does this mean Kojima's 'OD' is going to be coming to PS5 as well? Since that's the only reason I'm considering buying an Xbox in the future, and I'd prefer not to.
No idea about the gameplay, but the Akira Toriyama design work would definitely be an enjoyable feature. I think the series this is based on is coming to streaming soon also, so I'll be on the lookout for both.
Also, it feels like this is meant to benefit developers more than players. If this system becomes a default, instead of creating thoughtful and well-balanced tiers of difficulty, they can just dial in the difficulty to whatever ceiling is most convenient for them and trust that an automated system will make it playable for people.
Agree with everyone who says that this should be an option but never forced on the player. This would negatively affect the gaming experience for me in a MAJOR way.
They may not be for everyone, but the hardest difficulty settings are usually the best way to learn how to play a game at a high level. And it's much more satisfying when you succeed.
This is a welcome update, but I have to say I'm nervous to jump online and realize how terrible I actually am at this game. FromSoftware online PvP has historically been a brutal experience more often than not...
For now, I'll worry about whether I'm ever going to get S-ranks on every mission. Heheh.
Hahahaha. I was waiting to get this the whole time, with the expectation that the DLC would be included with a new release eventually. Not much of a point to waiting, as it turns out...
Most obnoxious story I've seen in a AAA title, maybe ever. As a follow-up to the original, it's basically a complete disgrace. Playing it once was more than enough.
Misleading numbers to overstate the preference of digital over physical, as a few people above explained very well.
The people cheering that on are pretty dim, since we're likely to be paying $100 a game once they finally succeed in killing off these physical formats and the resale market.
This couldn't be more drastically at odds with everything I've read about the movie in multiple reviews. But we all know the motivation for pretending it's a winner.
Even with the major hype and a review score of 10, I can't bring myself to be excited for this. The original was a corny homage to Twin Peaks, which is a bad comparison to invoke when you don't have any of the same creative originality at play... This really isn't a world that I was ever hopeful to revisit, no matter how slick the presentation has gotten.
@Korgon I absolutely agree with you about this style of gameplay being sorely missed. I just think it would tarnish a great franchise to try to add more content to a masterpiece without the involvement of the person who had the original vision.
Now, if Kojima Productions announced that they were working on an ALL-NEW "tactical espionage action" franchise... That would be an unprecedented level of hype.
@Korgon If you want to play new Metal Gear Solid games created by someone other than Kojima, that's obviously your prerogative. I know a lot of people will agree with you, whether I understand it or not. But some things just shouldn't be done.
I'm not even sure what scenario could possibly make sense for another sequel. Any post-MGS4 continuation would seem a little bit silly, and another retcon-heavy prequel would be overkill. It's perfectly OK for this series to end.
A reskin is a best-case scenario. I can't understand the people who want some utter hacks from Konami to reinvent the gameplay and rewrite the storyline created by Hideo Kojima. Honestly, if they were capable of creating anything worthwhile, they'd be doing something with one of their other dormant IPs like Silent Hill or Castlevania.
The only way I'll even consider buying this is if it adheres to the original vision 100%, and I'm not hopeful that's what's going to happen.

Re: Ubisoft Responds to Assassin's Creed Shadows Criticism, Apologises to Japanese Players
Two points:
