Re: PS5 Fans Are Pondering the Point of Days Gone Remastered After Graphics Comparison Emerges

Troubbble

"While we do understand the criticism, we sometimes think fans misunderstand why these remasters exist. Typically, they’re small-scale projects to help keep teams employed while they prototype new ideas..."

So gamers are supposed to "help keep teams employed" by purchasing new versions of games with minimal improvements? That's so unbelievably silly. This site has to be funded by Sony, I can't imagine any other reason for such a ridiculous editorial slant.

Re: Reaction: The PS5 Discourse Around State of Plays Is Becoming Draining

Troubbble

You get the same negative reaction every time there's a Nintendo Direct.

Neither company used to be in the habit of doing hyped-up presentations like these throughout the year, and by starting that trend and announcing an event like this is around the corner, they imply to the fans that there's going a lot of BIG NEWS they'll want to hear.

Really though, it's just a boon to their marketing departments who would love people to pay constant attention to everything they've got in the pipeline. If there are a couple of games you're excited for and not much more, was it worth your time or attention? Or might it be understandable to be somewhat critical of the slate of announcements you were enticed into sitting through?

If anything, a certain amount of negativity is a natural reaction to this type of constant artificial hype generation becoming the norm. And whether I agree with a positive or negative take on something like this, I'm not sure how it became the prevailing attitude that everyone should shut up and be positive about a bunch of marketing announcements. The consumerism is kind of nauseating.

Re: Housemarque's New PS5 Game Will Be a Little Less Punishing Than Returnal

Troubbble

People "bouncing off" Returnal is absolutely a skill issue. It's not too difficult at all.

It makes sense not to progress very far for a decent amount of time when you're new to the game, but that's how you unlock weapons and weapon upgrades, and learn how to play in the process. I found myself feeling like there were insurmountable barriers at times... It took me a ton of runs before I beat the first boss. But then as I got better I would all of a sudden make huge leaps forward.

Don't deny yourself the experience of beating this game. It was so fun, one of the best I've played in recent years.

Free tips: turn on the "Always Sprint" feature in the options menu, and get used to staying in constant motion and dodging incoming attacks with your "dash" move. And when you're trying to progress from biome to biome, you should clear every room and collect every upgrade you can to strengthen your character as much as possible before each boss.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Failed Because It Wasn't Live Service, EA CEO Seems to Suggest

Troubbble

The complaints about wokeness are due to horrible writing. The people that produce this stuff should not be employed in this industry.

They could have made the points they were desperate to make by intelligently weaving in themes of acceptance, but instead, you have medieval characters talking completely literally about ideological concepts from the current day. It's like they don't understand the concept of a metaphor at all.

Re: Poll: Will the Switch 2 Compete with PS5?

Troubbble

@Bentleyma For people who also own a PS5, it's unlikely that you would choose the Switch 2 version of a multi-platform release over the PS5 version. But getting CLOSER to current-gen graphical capabilities means gamers, especially more casual ones, have less of a reason than ever to own any non-Nintendo console.

If you can play a version of Call of Duty or Madden that is not as polished, but still looks decent and is playable, that's a leap forward from the original Switch--and the original was already a massive success. That's all I'm saying.

Re: Poll: Will the Switch 2 Compete with PS5?

Troubbble

The graphical leap from PS4 to PS5 was so minor, that just competing on the level of the PS4 will change the game when it comes to the type of third-party titles that Nintendo can make available.

The original Switch already crushed the competition sales-wise, so it seems like a slam dunk for this system to match or exceed the success of its predecessor.

Re: Elden Ring: Nightreign Will Boast Bosses Pulled from Dark Souls Series

Troubbble

It's a battle royale (-esque) co-op action game with the aesthetic and gameplay trappings of Elden Ring. I'm not sure how a lore-based explanation for any of this is necessary.

You play in a randomized world every time. It clearly has nothing to do with any existing storyline, and if it did, the one-word answer to your lore questions would apparently be "Multiverse."

FromSoft could have avoided most of these questions if they had called this Nightreign: A Co-op Action Title Which Has No Connection to Previously Established Lore, but unfortunately it doesn't really roll off the tongue, not to mention the obvious benefits to tying this into the Elden Ring brand since they've sold approximately three trillion copies of that game to date.

Re: Remedy Is Aiming for Excellence with Max Payne Remake

Troubbble

Revisiting these on Xbox in recent years reduced my enthusiasm for these games a little bit, but I'll never forget how impressive Max Payne was when I first played it on a friend's PC. Interested in playing these one more time with revamped gameplay and a fresh coat of paint.

Re: Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero (PS5) - Budokai Tenkaichi Returns as a Stunning, Super-Hype Brawler

Troubbble

I'm not likely to spend any time on local battles, but it seems bizarre that this mode would be limited to one stage because of "technical limitations."

Still pretty excited about this one though! My wife and I spent the last year or so watching the entire series starting with the original Dragon Ball and I was surprised how much she ended up loving it. That proved to me that Goku is one of the most charming characters ever created. Akira Toriyama was a brilliant talent.

Re: Random: Internet Trolls Tried to Downgrade Our Silent Hill 2 PS5 Review Score

Troubbble

Not sure why anyone should care that review scores were temporarily changed by a troll on Wikipedia, but Push Square loves to get the comment section riled up about culture war stuff whenever the opportunity arises, so here we are I guess.

If there was any censorship/prudish reimagining going on with this remake, I must have missed it. The main female character has a different outfit I think, but the original one was pretty garish, and she still looks normal. If they had redesigned her with a Star Wars Outlaws-style face, I could see there being some complaining...

Re: Silent Hill 2 (PS5) - The Horror Great Remains So in This Excellent Remake

Troubbble

Sounds good! I wish they'd changed even less about the original game, but then again, I played the HD remaster and didn't notice how horrible it apparently was, so I doubt what they're remixing here will bother me after all these years.

Glad there's a spooky game to play during October. Might have to grab this over the weekend instead of waiting for Christmas...

Re: Report Finds Lack of Star Wars Outlaws Sales Disturbing

Troubbble

I know there are several regular commenters who love the type of thing Ubisoft is doing, even as the wider market rejects it emphatically. If they keep going down this same road much further, though, they're going to fail--and I think their investors are starting to realize that.

It's time to clean house at a lot of these companies and hire some people who are focused on FUN rather than endless, tiresome political signaling.

Re: This Silent Hill 2 PS5 vs PS2 Comparison Will Blow Your Mind

Troubbble

I wish the original Silent Hill games could be more properly preserved. But I have to say, this does look pretty cool.

It's interesting how with many elements of the original, the technical limitations and related design choices seem to add to the bizarre aesthetic in ways you can't quite put your finger on. But some of those rough edges also make this game a better candidate for "reimagining" than something like Resident Evil 2, which was more conventionally cinematic even in the original release.

I am hoping the changes are thoughtful and limited... If this game sticks the landing though, I hope they'll circle back for a remake of the original Silent Hill, and maybe part 3 as well.

Re: Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (PS5) - Capcom Classic Still Shines 18 Years Later

Troubbble

@JB_Whiting Why do I care? Because it's based on principle, because this is just one example of a pervasive and bothersome trend, and because I've been around long enough to understand that it's not always your "team" in charge of what gets censored.

Three reasons off the top of my head.

There's also the fact that, like I mentioned before, a specific line of dialogue (if not multiple) has also been censored for reasons that have nothing to do with the removal of the photo mode feature. But everybody keeps focusing on that aspect because it's something easier to make into a mockery.

Re: Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (PS5) - Capcom Classic Still Shines 18 Years Later

Troubbble

@MrPeanutbutterz Here's the dictionary definition of the word for you, with some redundant ones removed, since it actually seems like you're the one who doesn't understand what it means.

censorship /sĕn′sər-shĭp″/
noun

Prevention of disturbing or painful thoughts or feelings from reaching consciousness except in a disguised form.

The use of state or group power to control freedom of expression, such as passing laws to prevent media from being published or propagated.

Deleting parts of publications or correspondence or theatrical performances.

Re: Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (PS5) - Capcom Classic Still Shines 18 Years Later

Troubbble

@MrPeanutbutterz I totally respect that everyone has their own perspective and many people could find "objectification of women" distasteful. You have every right to feel that way.

Personally, I've played through this game two full times (minimum) over the years and never purposefully engaged with that feature of the game.

The truth is, though, that many people--men and women alike--would not be offended by this content or consider it a serious affront against women. Others might take it as something tongue-in-cheek and silly, and be amused by it.

Your insistence that it be treated as offensive "garbage" just because that's the way you personally feel is not only censorship, it's indistinguishable from the type of censorship we've seen in the past from the religious right-wing. But I'm guessing if the personal taste of right-wing people was the prevailing influence on culture, you might recognize the problem a little more easily then.

Re: Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (PS5) - Capcom Classic Still Shines 18 Years Later

Troubbble

@Yousef- If what was removed was so minor, it makes me wonder why they felt so strongly about it that it needed to be removed.

@naruball I'm not sure what else it should be called other than censorship. If The Godfather was re-released in theaters with an "offensive" line of dialogue removed or a nude scene edited out, that's what it would rightfully be called. Maybe what you meant to say is "I'm happy with censorship as long as it reflects my personal values."

Re: Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (PS5) - Capcom Classic Still Shines 18 Years Later

Troubbble

"It’s faithful in every possible way"--except for the silly censorship that wasn't deemed necessary even a few short years ago when this was previously re-released.

And before all the other replies start pointing out why people shouldn't care about the censorship, no one's saying these details ruin the entire game. The point is that this constant morality policing and cowardice is getting very old.

If video games are art, they should be treated that way, and not reshaped at the drop of a hat to conform to the current moment's latest progressive values.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS5 Pro?

Troubbble

It's not just that the price is ridiculous, this is a low-value "upgrade" that's blatantly pointless to own and will be replaced by the PS6 in what seems like a mere moment.

It's an optional GTA6 framerate boost for $700 with no disc drive included.
