The leaks were right: Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a physical release next month, on the 5th December. The so-called Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition includes the base game and its expansion, Phantom Liberty. However, in what will no doubt be a gut punch for physical enthusiasts, the Ultimate Edition, specifically on PS5, does not include Phantom Liberty on the disc. As the front cover states, the expansion can be redeemed via an enclosed PSN voucher.
The whole package will also be released digitally, which makes us wonder whether this is being treated as a separate product to the standard Cyberpunk 2077.
CD Projekt Red has done this before, with The Witcher 3 and its Game of the Year Edition on PS4. The re-release included all DLC, and was technically counted as a different game on Sony's last-gen console. This meant that the Game of the Year Edition came with its own Trophy list.
It's unclear if Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will offer the same, but we've reached out to CDPR for clarification, and we'll keep you updated.

They probably shouldve released this at the same time as the 2.0 update, I literally just bought this on ps4 but would rather of had a physical ps5 copy
lol it's not 'complete' at all on disc then. Phantom Liberty is a digital code so those who want to sell or trade after their playthrough have just got the base game value.
But Xbox DOES get it included on the disc - guess MS opened their wallet again!
If they add a steelbook to this ultimate edition, it may be worth dipping into? However if not, seems a better idea to just buy the base game and dlc seperately on a discount. Not seeing anything which makes this edition more enticing than the base game honestly.
I don't buy any physical game that comes with a download voucher. Pointless and lame.

I like my discs lean with as less data as possible, so I was hoping that not only the expansion, but the base game as well would not be included on disc. Such a shame.
Apparently the Xbox version is two discs and has the dlc included on one of them.
Ultimate Editions should only be released once development has ended on a game in my opinion. Then they can be released with all content + patches on the disc.
What is the point of releasing a supposedly ultimate physical edition if it's not all on the disc. This is why I buy mostly digital nowadays, even with the disc, it's inferior without patches etc.

Strange as the game with PL is around 90gb meaning it could fit on disc.
I saw the date in the graphic and was confused for a minute thinking this was released in the past. We silly yankees write dates differently.
Damn, that’s a shame. I would’ve definitely put this on my Christmas wishlist had it had the DLC on disc. Instead I’ll likely pick up a used PS4 copy from CEX and grab Phantom Liberty when it eventually goes on sale – I’ve got plenty to be getting on with in the meantime!
@EmperorJake I did the same thing. I don't feel like we're missing out on much at all. PS5 upgrade is free, just gotta wait for the DLC to go on sale afterwards.
Still crashes for me at launch, tried so many times to enjoy this even when it did load it was still buggy

@Troubbble well...it IS included I suppose, so unless you want to sell or trade after playing it won't make much difference.
@Pranwell Doubt anyone would pay for exclusivity for this, few people would care about having the code vs the full thing on disc. Those in forums and reddit don't reflect the vast majority of gamers.

@HammerKirby3 John from digital foundry speculates that in order to have it all on disc they would need to recompile the game with the dlc included as one build which means they'd have to resubmit the game to sony too. According to him Sony doesn't allow dlc to be included on disc. Meanwhile Xbox have allowed you to have dlc on disc. I've seen the legacy edition of Cod infinite warfare use the xbox one disc as the download key for Cod4 remastered. The ps4 version had a download code.

Maybe it's because Sony removed the game from the PS store after that disastrous launch.
I know there were some problems with the refunds between CD Projekt and Sony, and perhaps this left some bad blood between the two.
Anyway, with the DLC not on disc, and without knowing which version of the base game I'm going to play, this is a no-buy for me.

@jamison1993 There’s loads of PS4 games with dlc on the disc. Seems like Horizon Forbidden West could get a dlc disc but for some reason everybody else has to have a dlc code which is trash.
@TripleKing333 According to John, from digital foundry, it was a brand new build of the game. I imagine it's alot easier (Cheaper) for a first party to get recertification on a game than CDPR.

I bought the PS4 day one edition some time ago on Amazon for just about 16 euro for my PS5, so the only difference with the PS5 versions will be the PS5 logo on the cover, as everything else seems the same?
Is there any reason to wait for this rather than buying the digital ps4 game and using the free ps5 upgrade?
