@NEStalgia That's really the best part. Crime sprees and senseless murder are fine. Just don't poke an anime girls boob or you will surely be denied access to heaven. It's okay to like questionable mature content, so long as your brand of questionable mature content is approved of by the puritanical judges of society.
@Ralizah I think that's kind of the issue. So much is just left to interpretation of individuals, or maybe just a small panel of people reviewing this stuff. Which in a sense is why a platform does need to have a very defined criteria of what is and isn't okay. Kinda like I mentioned above with Gal Gun Returns. It just wasn't even slated for PS4 because they surely just already knew they wouldn't get approval. Or Samurai Maiden just being totally dialed in compared to Bullet Girls. Those were certainly situations where the creators knew exactly what the rules were and just made their decisions around those.
I dunno, Im finding the Evenicle II listing on GOG. It's $40 and the users are complaining about the standard issue mosaic censorship that GOG had nothing to do with. Lol
@Ralizah See, honestly, I'm not necessarily is disagreement. By and large, I think the level of content Nintendo allows is 100% reasonable and should probably just be an industry standard, the other two just come off as prudish to me. It doesn't have to be the absolute wild west, which Valve wants to be, but even the wild west still had a sheriff. I get that developers like the ability to be seen on the Steam storefront, but Valve definitely has some nitpicks in the form of particular scenarios that they seem to clamp down on when they catch them. GOG doesn't really seem to care whatsoever, but really, like you said some of this stuff in reality probably really is better suited for an actual specialty storefront.
@Ralizah I know they never gave an exact reason for Full Metal Daemon getting removed, but I kinda think it definitely features some of the particular things Valve isn't keen on. But you aren't wrong, Valve still does have policies, but they're a heck of a lot more lenient than Sony or MS. But then there's weird situations like Evenicle 1 still running wild and free, but Evenicle 2 was rejected. Lol. But I think Valve also allows a heck of a lot of content that Nintendo wouldn't. Yet Nintendo is the only platform with a truly intact version of Mary Skelter 2. In reality, neither of them has a just anything goes policy. But like I said with the CHAOS;HEAD NOAH debacle. That wasn't permitted, but then it was re-examined, and they permitted it. Valve said they were making some internal changes in the process to avoid stuff like that from happening again. So, I don't disagree, there's obviously some flaws in the system, but it seems they're aware of it and owned that. Now they just have to actually fix the process. Or... We just go to GOG.
@Ralizah Valve hasn't changed the rules too much. Outside of just truly heinous things, and NFTs, which I think are kinda the same thing. CHAOS;HEAD NOAH wasn't permitted on Steam at first, but Valve re-examined the decision and reversed it, and then changed some processes to avoid it from happening again.
@UltimateOtaku91 Another good example. There is a F2P gacha DOAX on PC that's only available in the Asian market. The game is 100% available in English already, and all you have to do is use a VPN and you can add it to your Steam account. However, there is no indication of a western release or console release. I don't really get why they wouldn't release it outside of the fact they just think the western market doesn't want it. Well... They're wrong. I wanted it. I kinda of imagine it's not on consoles at all because only Valve would tolerate the fan service.
@Ralizah Maybe. Gal Gun Returns skipped PS4 altogether. It was going to launch on Xbox and then the devs gave the indication that MS pulled the plug on it at the 11th hour. Then we get releases like Samurai Maidens from Shade that were WILDLY toned down compared to their prior games, probably because they knew they wouldn't get a console release this day and age if they didn't.
@UltimateOtaku91 That entire statement is contradictory, though. You say they don't really censor them, then give an example of them censoring them. I don't think this is really that flexible. It's either they do or they don't.
@Amnesiac They run sales of course. But it's usually more like 33% off, then of course the sale ends and they go back to full price. They had most of the Mario games for $40 right when the Mario movie launched. But really, the two game vouchers are a good way to go too. $100 for basically any two 1st party games any day of the year, works for me. I like those. Lol
@UltimateOtaku91 Remedy is remaking Max Payne 1 & 2. I don't think they're far enough in development to be shown here, but those are 100% happening. I kinda think we might see some Alan Wake 2 tho.
@NEStalgia I like Guardians because in a way, they don't even really seem like super heroes. It was just some whacky scifi game, and I was pretty cool with that. I kinda like the grittiness of Wolverine, sort of the same way I appreciate the Arkham games, even though I'm not exactly a Batman fan.
@NEStalgia I'm not really into Marvel, but I could probably go for Wolverine. I liked Guardians of the Galaxy a lot more than I expected to, but I'm just pretty meh on Spiderman.
LA Noire was freaking fantastic. I think it was my first platinum ever. I played that game so much my wife finally asked me to just stop playing it, because she was sick of looking at it. Lol
@UltimateOtaku91 I really think it could happen. Wasn't GTAV current gen the very first trailer during the last showcase? So Rockstar obviously sees the value in Sony's stage. But I kinda doubt even Sony could lock down timed exclusivity for GTAVI, but I'd basically guarantee they'll have some sort exclusive something. With GTAV current gen they had the online portioned offered to PS+ members for free for a few months, so I'm sure they'll find something to incetivize PS5 sales.
I said to someone earlier today, that I really think we might see the official GTAVI unveiling at the PS showcase next week. That would be a serious moment for sure.
@Ralizah There's a lot of truth to it. Years ago when I managed a liquor store. Our rep from Diageo came in and told us that George Dickel whiskey was going way up in price. We asked why, and he told us, "Because it's cheaper than Jack Daniels, and because of that people think it's just low quality knock off Jack, so we're raising the price to be more competetive." They literally raised the price to make potential customers think it was the same perceived quality as Jack Daniels, and therefore sell more whiskey. That sounds crazy, but it works. You lower the price too much and people just think it's cheap. I'd tell you Dickel tastes a heck of a lot better, but that's a different story. Lol.
Somehow though, I feel Nintendo has managed to do this thing, and they just sort of command this super premium price tag that even companies like Sony could never get away with. I kinda think it's largely possible because Nintendo IPs are just that insanely powerful. Heck, look at the Mario movie. People expected it to be successful, but lord have mercy. They could probably have entire marketing courses based on the Nintendo Switch. Lol
@Ralizah I think Iwata was kinda onto something, really. Not that I like paying more for games, but I will absolutely just buy Nintendo games day one because I know there's no real reason to wait. I slept on FE: Engage for a minute and got it used from GameFly for $40. In my mind though, I knew that $40 was basically rock bottom, but it still took months to get there, and that deal was easy to miss. It's basically still just holding onto full price everywhere. Lol
@Ralizah Apparently the usual suspects are just dominating the eShop as well. It really looks like Nintendo might have shifted a ton of hardware for Zelda, then managed to just sell the Nintendo classic yet again. It's seriously impressive how those games hold their price and just keep selling and selling and selling.
@Ralizah Honestly, it's crazy to me. I see people on the Genshin subreddit talk about spending $1000 to unlock a C6 banner character. It's INSANE to me. I've mentioned before that I just pay for the measly monthly blessing and the battle passes sometimes, I really feel like I earn plenty enough in game to really enjoy myself. I'm actually considering going to purely F2P for a while since I'm not really itching for anything right now.
I wouldn't even say the late-game really requires any more or less gacha. You will naturally earn some some five star characters just by the pity system alone, and a lot of four star characters are great. However, your gear and level, etc does progress faster by paying for the battle pass because you just have more resources given to you. I think the thing though is that you really aren't competing with anyone. So, really, there's no rush to get more gear or anything. It's just fun watching your waifus and husbandos get more powerful and land bigger damage.
I've always liked MMOs and stuff, but never really fell into a proper live service freemium game, but good God, they got me. It's just a different experience. The lore is so deep and interesting. The combat is so fun bouncing between characters. It's just such a huge polished AAA game. I think in ways, it kinda puts a lot of the industry to shame with how quickly the produce content and the quality it consistency comes in at. I just can't stay away from it.
@Ralizah For all the money Genshin prints, I really feel that is largely attributed to MiHoYo actually doing a great job of supporting the game. The trading card game was a pretty huge update, but there's not a ton of different playing cards yet. One of the dev notes even sort of said as much, but their comment was that it was sort of an experiment in different ways to bring more value to the game for players. It's like, on one hand, it's an evil gacha scheme to shake thousands of dollars out of gambling addicts. Then on the other hand, it's a really lovely single player game with tons of stuff to do. I just love it.
It definitely seems like some sort of internal review of all the studios and partners is currently happening. There's been a whole lot of news about stuff seemingly getting cut loose. Which happens, and probably isn't abnormal. Only you can prevent Redfall, after all.
@NEStalgia I'm def going gung-ho on Zelda tonight. I was trying to wrap up FE: Engage before TOTK dropped, but I made it to the final chapter last night. So, I need to get that wrapped up too. I still have Metroid Prime Remastered that I haven't even opened yet. I've gotta kick the Genshin habit for a good long while. Lol
@NEStalgia I'm pretty content after the hour I played of TOTK that I'm probably going to just drop everything else for a while. I think I love the Ultrahand. I'm going to have to go on Genshin break, which is okay. I've sank about 500 hours into it so far, so I'll probably go on hiatus until the new country opens. I will miss my harem, but I will return to them soon.
Hmm I'll look into the Quest 3 then. This isn't anything pressing for me, but I am kinda interested in VR. Sometimes the mundane is just more satisfying than what is supposed to be 'obviously fun'. I'd rather powerwash walls than fight robot dinosaurs, 100%.
@NEStalgia I played Zero Dawn and I liked it pretty well. This was years ago, and being fair, I'd tell you my taste has kinda changed a good deal since then. I can basically live without Far Cry, Assassins Creed and MH entirely. Something about Forbidden West is just off putting from the start. I went into it fairly optimistically, but really just didn't find much, if anything satisfying about it. I'd honestly tell you every interaction with a human is just weird and kinda makes me cringe because everyone behaves like some weird lifeless doll. It's a bizarre experience, and I really just don't like it. The only person that seems more bored to be there than me, is Aloy. Lol
I'm thinking about getting a Quest 2 for the PC. So, if I do I'd surely pickup up NMS. It seems like something I'd probably like. But really, I'll probably just get sucked in TOTK like everyone else for a while.
@NEStalgia See, it's a culmination of all sorts of things I don't like. I mean really, being honest... I don't like Horizon either. I've installed Forbidden West at least six times, played for twenty minutes, then uninstalled it again. I want to like it, but I just don't. What I really want to do is grind Fire Emblem: Engage into a fine dust, and snort it up my nose.
@NEStalgia Right, which was the point I was making. In my mind it's always been a game that must just be more fun in co-op, because I've always played it single player and I've always thought it was boring as watching paint peel. Maybe it is popular for it's single player, I honestly don't know.
I don't mind boss battles, but I have pretty specific tastes in gaming, and I don't think just hunting the boss and fighting it is particularly appealing. I think I mostly just refuse to play games with a clock ticking. The second the game starts making me feel like I'm in a rush, I have basically quit having fun and just feel like I'm working at that point. I think that's honestly the part of Monster Hunter I like the least. I think like Dark Souls, it's just a git gud kind of franchise, and I just don't like it enough to want to git gud.
@NEStalgia Yeah, I honestly feel like I should like Monster Hunter, but over the years it's just never really clicked with me. My buddies love it, and they basically always played together. I kinda assumed they loved it because they got to have a Zoom call with... Weapons. Playing alone always seemed like, "Why am I doing this? And what about this is fun?" Hunting always felt more tedious than fun. I honestly think it all comes around to the fact that I'm pretty adverse to too much combat in games, and I'm left with the impressions that's basically all MH is. I genuinely don't like particularly complicated action games. Monster Hunter has always struck me as clunky, but I think it feels clunky because it's just complicated and I'm not interested enough to want to learn
I was playing Dragons Dogma on Steam, and little did I know there's a notorious bug in that game to this very day that will corrupt your save file and my save was lost. Steam cloud had already backed up the corrupted save, so there was no salvaging it. I finally just said to hell with it and never looked at it again. Lol
@NEStalgia It's so weird to me. I kinda sorta like Monster Hunter, but I avoid what few friends I have, so I'm not inclined to want to play that online, and I think it's kinda boring solo. I hate horror games. I hate fighting games. I hate hack n slash action games. They make great games for their genres, but they just don't really make much for me. I'm optimistic for Dragon's Dogma 2, even though I'm kinda meh on the first one. It's a cult classic, but I think that game is rough around the edges. The last game Capcom published that I LOVED was Okami.
It's so weird to me. I really respect that Capcom is super high on peoples list and that they're obviously in the swing of making top notch games. However, I can't think of a single Capcom game made in the last ten years that I actually like playing. That's a me thing, not a Capcom thing.

Re: Capcom's Crazy Win Streak Continues as Publisher Confirms Record-High Profit
Re: Capcom's Crazy Win Streak Continues as Publisher Confirms Record-High Profit
Re: Capcom's Crazy Win Streak Continues as Publisher Confirms Record-High Profit
Lol
Re: Capcom's Crazy Win Streak Continues as Publisher Confirms Record-High Profit
Re: Capcom's Crazy Win Streak Continues as Publisher Confirms Record-High Profit
It's so weird to me. I really respect that Capcom is super high on peoples list and that they're obviously in the swing of making top notch games. However, I can't think of a single Capcom game made in the last ten years that I actually like playing. That's a me thing, not a Capcom thing.
