Embattled Divinity Dev to Host Q&A with Fans After Tough Week 1

It should have been a killer end to the year for Baldur’s Gate 3 maker Larian Studios.

It got top billing at The Game Awards just a little over a week ago, which saw it announce a new Divinity game as part of a statue stunt which captured the industry’s attention for days.

But comments made by boss Swen Vincke about generative AI in a Bloomberg interview afterwards quickly turned sour. Since, several ex-employees have come out to comment on the studio, making all kinds of accusations about its working conditions.

Now, trying to wrestle back control of the narrative, the studio has announced an AMA with fans for the New Year which will see it clear up comments which got “lost in translation”.

Vincke wrote on X (or Twitter):

“It’s been a week since we announced Divinity, our next RPG, and a lot has become lost in translation. Larian’s DNA is agency. Everything we work towards is to the benefit of our teams, games, and players. A better work day, and a better game. Our successes come from empowering people to work in their own way and bring the best out of their skill and craft, so that we can make the best RPGs we can possibly make.”

On the subject of generative AI, the executive said it “would be irresponsible for us not evaluate new technologies” but added if “they’re not efficient or fail to align with who we are, we will make changes”.

Vincke now intends to invite fans to ask their own questions about its practices in 2026, as part of an AMA which will involve several different departments and teams.

Hopefully this will help to clear up the conversation, because Larian – one of the more beloved studios in the industry up until the past few days – has found itself in the eye of a storm of late.

Let’s all take a breather and see what the studio’s got to say in the New Year, eh?
