@Ico1977 Play enough to open up the good jokers. That’s it. That’s the secret. The jokers you start opening up with x multipliers are game breaking. You’ll still lose to BS boss blinds sometimes but you’ll win often. Game is way too dependent on RNG.

Just because the law does not specifically spell out that it protects white people does not mean that the racist justice system does not apply it as such. White men get away with shooting teens carrying skittles here. White men get away with shooting young black women in the face for knocking on their door after having car issues. White men get away with shooting blank CHILDREN carrying toy guns.

@MrMagic Just because something is not an issue for you does not mean it is not an issue for someone else. In the US many places have made it legal for white people to shoot and kill black people and then just say they were afraid to get away with it. If you took a second to understand other people you might see that their concerns have very real and meaningful causes.

I’m of Mexican decent and had no issues shooting up Mexican American gangs in Cyberpunk. I’m not the type to get offended by this stuff but it’s really not that hard to be understanding of why others do.

@Hyena_socks they are literally pre-offended in their post complaining about a scenario they made up and they have the audacity to complain about other people getting offended by actual issues.

The reviews this game received are wild. Everyone I’ve heard talk about playing this game, including people who gave it high scores, list so many problems they had with the game.

I have not played it so obviously I have no idea. I’m just saying the discourse doesn’t match the masterpiece level metascore.

@__jamiie You would be wrong with that argument. Spiderman is the most popular comic book character, fourth most popular movie IP, and most popular PlayStation IP. I didn’t realize it either but spiderman is a very big deal.

@don-neto Because a bunch of stupid executives all invested heavily in the game industry at the exact same time like a bunch of sheep, creating a sudden overflow of great games, and now they are all devesting at the exact time, again like sheep, leading to an inevitble drought where the few good games will make tons of money thanks to a lack of competition, leading to a new surge of investment into gaming, starting the cycle over again.

I enjoy the positivity of the Sony community. So many comments here are basically, "Awesome, I'm sure they cancelled only the games I am not interested in so they can now focus on the games I am interested in." I wish I believed in anything as much as some of y'all believe in a corporation that only cares about your money.

@Jayslow @themightyant The game awards nominations do not have a great track record for accuracry. It's not a fighting game. Sucess is not predicated on stringing together long combos, or any combos really. It is focused on perfecting your dodges and parries, and on your ability to do crowd control.

This game looks charming AF but I have a suspicion that the gameplay is going to be a let down. I think it's the top down combat with a tiny sword that concerns me. Those games never feel great. Hopefully they mix up the gameplay enough for it to not matter.

I was very interested in this game but ended up staying away because of the paint by numbers gameplay. What is the point of forcing players to use the red gun for red enemies and the blue gun for blue enemeis when gunplay inherently forces you to switch between guns based on situation and distance?

11% would deny themselves good games purely for their allegiance to a plastic box even though the console war has long since been won. People are so weird.

I don’t think I saw anything I’ll play this year. Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin look like hood games but not for full price.

Telling me you have 60 class types is like telling me there are 1000 explorable planets. It’s not at all appealing and makes me think a lot of what you’ve created is disposable.

I am very comfortable with it. I love that adoption of digital libraries has led to fully backwards compatible consoles which significantly lowers the possibility of licenses being lost by both digital and physical users which is an overblown fear to begin with. Good games will always be available either in the version I own or an updated version. I’ll always be happy to buy a new version of games I like because I prefer remakes and remasters to dusty old games.

@somnambulance I can’t argue with that but it does feel like Nintendo games that are not family friendly always get nominated for best family game and as someone who loves couch coop I wish it was treated more thoughtfully.

It’s surprising to me that these nominations seem to favor commercial success much more so than other major awards.

@somnambulance Is Pikmin a family game or is it just colorful and cute? I love it but it seems like it would be a terrible game for kids. It’s complicated and the Pikmin frequently die while screaming for their lives.

I'm excited. It looks a little inspired by Metroid Dread in the combat and visuals and I absolutely loved that game.

@Ralizah JK Rowling has specifically said that she equates the continued success of the HP franchise as validation of her hateful statements and activism.

@naruball I do think you’re right that Hogwarts being the first big HP game in a while added to the hype and contributed to sales but I don’t think that fully explains it being the most popular single player game in years.

I’m a bit incredulous about super hero fatigue theory.Partially because Spider-Man 2 sold so well and so fast but also I think the recent poor box office performance for comic movies has more to do with the movies being bad and often featuring C/D tier heroes. The recent Spider-Man movies were incredibly popular and no not just because of Tom Holland, his other movies don’t do nearly as well, he is popular online but not a ticket seller. Plus the recent HP movies did so bad that they cancelled the end of the series so they’re doing even worse.

@naruball I’m far left and I think you are 100% correct about the left driving people away. You can agree with some people on the left on 99% of the issues and instead of treating you as an ally they will crucify you for the 1% you disagree on.

@DiscoStuUK Yes I think we are generally in agreement. I’ll just say don’t underestimate how popular Spiderman is. It’s the most popular comic character, the third highest grossing film IP (above HP), the best selling PS4 that wasn’t included as a pack in, and the fastest selling PS5 game.

@YourNameHere I don’t base my assessment of games on score. I read and watch reviews. Even good reviews described the combat, story, and open world activities as being mid and said the map and described world building as the redeeming features. I was planning to play it but that sounds like a mediocre game to me.

@DiscoStuUK Yes HP is for sure very popular. I'm just saying it is definitely nowhere near as popular as Spider-Man, Star Wars, or Mario, all of which had better reviewed games this year. I definitely think the counter protest was much bigger than the protest.

I don't hate on anyone for playing the game, I would have played it myself if it didn't review as extremely mediocre, but it is very sad to me that so many people seem motivated to cancel out the voices of people who just want the world to be a little nicer and more caring. I saw people on this website comment that they voted for HP for game of the year even though they thought it was mid, because they wanted to stick it to people who protested it.

I can't help but feel that some level of this game's popularity was a reverse protest against people who do not like JK Rowling. Nothing else makes sense. Harry Potter is not as big as Marvel or Star Wars and games from both of those franchises don't sell nearly as well despite reviewing significantly better.

I think this list might have locked up my video game list of the year award.

@evildave333 Applying points to your strength stat helps a lot with the spongy enemies. I stopped having this issue after a few upgrades.

I don’t understand why single player games cannot be live service. I’m loving GoW Valhalla and will be buying the Last of Us DLC next month. I would buy DLC every few months if they kept adding content.

It's a shame so many people are dismissing it after hearing the term roguelike because these are the most gentle roguelike mechanics I have ever seen. It's almost like a linear game with procedural generated levels.

@trev666 You realize by supporting the game for reasons that have nothing to do with its quality you’re literally doing the thing you’re imaging is happening. It wasn’t snubbed or dismissed by critics. It reviewed high and then literally dozens of games reviewed considerably higher and those games are the ones that got nominated. That games supporters have such a silly victim complex.

The one downside of being digital only is that digital games make for bad Christmas gifts because there is nothing to unwrap. I suggested that my wife buy digital and write down the product key on a paper and wrap that but she thinks it's a dumb idea and too much work. I kind of agree with her but still keep dropping hints about AC6.

@Mega-Gazz PlayStation has much better sales than Xbox. I prefer playing third parties on Series X but end up playing a bunch on PlayStation simply because the sales are better.

This makes way more sense than trying to make another online multiplayer live service game when that market is already saturated. As a primarily single player gamer I would buy additional quests in the games I like.

I just don’t understand this. People who play games want games that respect their time, developers want to make games that don’t force them to work overtime, and publishers want games that don’t cost too much to develop and yet they keep giving us MOOOOOOORRRRRRREEEEEE!!!!!!!!

I would love the ability to restart a boss at the beginning of the second phase so I could learn the phase and then restart from the beginning when I am ready to beat the boss. It doesn’t seem like this will enable it.

I bought a Backbone to play Persona 5R through remote play from my PS5 and abandoned that plan after two play sessions because remote play was so awful. Series X does much better but it's not great for anything with action. Remote play tech is just not ready.

@MikeOrator It’s that one is a legitimately scary horror game with complex story telling and the other includes bear ***** among many other adult appropriate themes. Zelda is targeted at everyone, the other two are specifically for adults.
