I've been busy playing on my Steam Deck and Switch lately, but I don't blame lack of games on PS5. There's still plenty of games that I'd like to buy for PS5.
@Cutmastavictory Yes, but the user interface is likely going to be very different in the PS5 version. A good or bad UI can really make it or break it when it comes to these building games.
Disagreed. Silent protagonists leave room for the player's imagination. As long as there is emotion in the animations (especially on face), silent protagonists work really well. Also avoids the problem of having annoying voice acting. I was playing Cyberpunk 2077 and I wish that game had silent protagonist because I dislike the voice acting of the main character.
I'm pretty confident that MH Wilds is going to be released on Switch 2. Perhaps even a launch game or launch window game. The series has been very popular on handheld platforms, so it makes a lot of sense.
Lots of TMNT games coming out. Not sure about this one, but I'm interested in the Splintered Fate. That said, it's hard to beat Shredder's Revenge which is one of the best beat 'em ups I've ever played.
@breakneck I don't think there is any one, actual definition for an indie game. I just think it's a bummer that the word has lost its meaning as a game from independent developers. It's not that big of a deal, but it kind of downplays the achievement from actually independent developers, especially when games with massive funding get to be nominated on award shows.
That said, Dave the Diver is definitely a good game and I don't blame the developer. The problem is with news sites and other media using the word carelessly.
@Maubari You don't need to like it (I sure don't), but you got to admit that digital makes a lot of sense for Sony. First of all, they get much more revenue from them, since they don't need to print the disc and case, and the retailer doesn't take their cut of the price (not to mention shipping/logistics). Secondly, Sony doesn't benefit from second hand market. Thirdly, games are going to be bigger and bigger, and I'm not sure that future disc technology can keep up with it. Finally, games are almost never finished on launch day, so you'll need to update it through internet anyway or even download a big chunk of the game.
As for the Stadia, PSP Go and Xbox Series S... Stadia failed because it is cloud gaming with weird payment model, not because it was digital. PSP Go failed because it launched too early for digital to make sense, not all games were available digitally, and Sony was too greedy to support standard SD cards. Xbox Series S on the other hand has apparently sold three times more than Series X. Hardly a failure, although Xbox in general is not going super strong.
I love physical media but I don't think it's guaranteed at all that future consoles will support it. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
It's a great game. I admit that I wasn't the biggest fan of the combat system in the early game, but by the end it gets so much better. I also really enjoyed the story, characters and the world.
It was a great Direct. The new 2D Zelda game looks great, Metroid Prime 4 looks solid, Marvel vs Capcom collection was a huge surprise, and Dragon Quest 3 remake looks amazing. I also really liked MIO: Memories in Orbit, definitely getting that at some point.
I never really understood why Platinum trophies are a big deal. I don't mind having trophies, but it's weird how some people seem to be more interested in getting some arbitrary achievements than playing the game just for the fun of it.
@nessisonett While I agree that Sony should do better, I don't think PCSX2 is really comparable to Sony's in-house emulator. PCSX2 started development in 2001 and has had hundreds of contributors (although I think the core development team is smaller). They lack the documentation and funding, but they have the next best reason to continue development. Passion for gaming. Never underestimate open-source development.
Additionally, I think there are different priorities for a commercial release such as Sly Cooper. It needs to be stable, and the user shouldn't need to tweak the settings to make it work (which is something that is often required with emulators). That said, I have had the game crash once already, so Sony hasn't done the best job either way.
Now, I haven't played the PS4 version but the PS5 version is definitely serviceable. It could be improved by giving options for higher resolutions and (in my opinion more importantly) integer scaling, but it plays the game smoothly without any major visual artefacts. Hope they fix this syncing issue on PS4 though.
Played some Sly Cooper today, and it plays well on PS5. The image quality isn't perfect, and no matter what visual filters you use, the image is going to be a bit soft. I'd really appreciate it if they added integer scaling as an option.
That said, it's a good game and you quickly forget about image quality when playing it. I do think that keeping the internal resolution at 480p is the way to go since the artwork was designed around it. But they really should improve the scaling method.
@get2sammyb Can you explain what those visual filters do? Especially Classic Arcade and Modern Arcade. Also, does the Default setting use integer scaling to produce sharp pixels, or is it a blurry mess?
@NEStalgia It's not just Nvidia by the way. There's a bunch of AMD sponsored games that lack features such as DLSS. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. But it does seem very much like all of the component manufacturers have made decisions that could be seen as anti-consumer.
@themightyant I wish they would add this to the article. I've noticed many times before that Push Square likes to do clickbaity and sensational articles. Context is everything, and the same quote can mean two very different things depending on whether the context is included or not.
I don't want to argue with anyone, just giving some constructive criticism.
@Cry_Zero I hope they give the option to use integer scaling. I think the artwork doesn't hold up with higher resolutions, so I'd prefer original resolution with sharp pixels.
@salvadorhealth Nah, I don't think Xbox is in trouble. They're just turning into something else. Not only a console, but a brand spanning over multiple platforms.
Spending insane amount of money on Activision-Blizzard was risky for sure. However, it could still be worth it since the biggest games are going to be multiplatform, and they will be making a lot of money. Having Call of Duty be console exclusive would be dumb as hell, since that would limit their profits. So Call of Duty, Doom etc being multiplatform makes a lot of sense to me.
Edit: That said, I don't think all of their games are going to be multiplatform in the near future. Only those that make sense. I personally think all online games should be multiplatform in order to keep the playerbase large and active.
@KeanuReaves Fair enough, but this is better for players so I'm personally happy about this. I have a PS5 (and Switch and PC), but it's good news that more people get to play this game.
Console exclusives will not go away anytime soon (especially on Playstation and Nintendo), but I think it's always a good thing when people get to play games on whatever platform they own. No reason (other than money) to force them to spend a small fortune on expensive hardware if they already have a system that could play the game.
@KeanuReaves They make money with software, not hardware. Increasing sales of a game by releasing on multiple platform makes a lot of sense. I can understand them not releasing on Xbox since I doubt this game would sell a lot there, but it certainly will sell a lot on Switch.
Yes, they definitely will make more money if they sell the game on their own storefront (Nintendo, Steam etc take around 30% of the price). But I'm confident that this will more than double the sales of the game. Maybe even triple them.
@KawakiisaFraud I think it would be absolutely fantastic news if they released Horizon Zero Dawn on Switch 2. I doubt they will, but everyone would benefit from it. Nintendo fans would get a decent game, and Sony would sell a game to a whole new audience. It wouldn't hurt their own sales at all, since it's a fairly old game already.
@Medic_alert This will make them a lot of money. Selling only on Playstation, they would have 60 million potential customers, and let's face it, not all of them are interested in Lego games. On Switch however, there are 140 million potential customers. I'm pretty sure larger chunk of them are interested in Lego games than on Playstation.
Honestly, not releasing on Switch would be a huge mistake. So I think Sony made the right call here.
It makes a lot of sense to release on Switch as well. It has by far the biggest userbase (not counting PC) with 140 million units sold. It's very family friendly and affordable system as well, so I can see a lot of parents getting Lego Horizon for their kids on Switch.
@AK4tywill Complete Edition, Game of the Year Edition, Final Mix, Director's Cut... What does it matter what you call it, as long as they explain what the re-release contains?
@Gamer_X It's not okay for Sony to mislead people, but thankfully this won't affect most people. But at this point, knowing how some PS5 games are quite low-res, it would be misleading to have the 8K on the box, so I can understand why they removed it.
And what are you rambling about other companies? I have very little reason to defend Sony if that's what you mean. They've done plenty of stuff that I've criticized, including the whole Helldivers and PSN situation.
@GeeForce I think the reason is simply that most desktop PCs don't support video output through USB-C. Many laptops do, but desktop PCs in general connect through Displayport or HDMI.
@ShaneReactions Well, desktop PCs usually have like 8 USB-A ports and one or two USB-C port. Makes sense to use USB-A.
Have seen a single second of actual gameplay of this game? I mean sure, we have in-engine footage... but that means nothing since it's not clear on what hardware it's running on, and is not at all reflective of the gameplay experience either.
Edit: Turns out there is some footage that looks like actual gameplay. Not on console though, so we'll just have to wait and see how this looks on PS5 and Xbox.

Confusing title, since that's PC footage.
