@Neither_scene To be fair, mobile was touted as the handheld killer both when 3DS launched and when Switch launched, yet here we are, Switch selling millions and millions of units.
@nomither6 Well, if the rumours are to be believed, it will at least beat Series S in terms of RAM (12GB vs 10GB) which at the very least helps developers a lot by making porting games much easier.
People have very high expectations, but they should remember that portable devices are limited on physical volume, energy consumption and thermals. Even Steam Deck struggles to reach PS4 performance. Sure, it can run some PS5 games that aren't available on PS4, but at the cost of resolution.
I think it would very impressive if they can reach PS4 levels of performance in a slim form factor close to the current Switch, with decent battery life.
Pretty sure Fortnite has the same system in place for beginners. I think it's a fine idea but only for the first few matches (and to replace people who have disconnected).
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare @IamJT To give my thoughts on the topic, I doubt any of us here are experts on this particular topic but it's fine to discuss it anyway. I think it's fine to assume (until proven otherwise) that that particular tweet is legit since it's from the journalist mentioned in this article and I would hope Push Square has done at least some research in order to not share any old rubbish that you find on the internet. But interpreting that document (correctly) is a job for the legal system, not us.
I originally brought it up because I noticed people were jumping the gun and were already at Chris Barrett's throat even when it was not clear whatsoever that Sony had followed the contract. Yeah, maybe I jumped the gun as well in interpreting that Sony had broken it (although I was careful to not state it as a fact, hence the "it seems" that I used twice), but hopefully this discussion has opened people's eyes to see that the world is not black and white. Chris Barret may be the villain of this story, or it may be Sony. Maybe both, maybe neither. We'll have to wait and see.
Edit: To be clear, $35 million is already way too much money for one person, let alone $80+ million. So I think at the very least this guy is super greedy, even if he has a case.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare Yes, I was commenting based on what we know, as I couldn't possibly have all the information about the case (or make sure that the document tweeted was legit to begin with). The point was, I can understand where he is coming from. I don't agree with him, and I wouldn't tolerate his claimed actions, but he may have a case.
Yes, it's a ridiculous amount of money for one person to get, but based on the document on that tweet, it seems like Sony broke the contract. It clearly states that "you do not need to remain a Bungie employee" for those payouts. I'm no lawyer, but it seems like Sony needs to pay up.
Don't get me wrong, he seems like horrible person if the claims about his behaviour are true.
@DennisReynolds His acting fitted the character and writing quite well I think. Besides, I think it's ultimately voice director's responsibility to, well, direct the actors. Clearly they wanted Clive to sound kind of gruff and edgy (for the lack of better word). And I honestly think that is for the best, since I can't imagine him sounding super joyful based on his character history. As for the showing of emotion, I have no idea what you're talking about. Plenty of emotional scenes in the game and he did sound convincingly emotional. I agree that Cid's voice actor was amazing as well, though.
@DennisReynolds I think Ben Starr did excellent job with voicing Clive. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of FF XVI and the characters in it, including Clive. Gameplay started kind of slow, but improved a lot by the end.
Anyway, I'm more of a Street Fighter player myself, but I do own Tekken 8 as well. I'm certainly interested in this new character, seems like a lot of fun.
@Strikke Yeah, it feels like Push Square really wanted to paint them as the bad guy. I get it, controversy attracts clicks, but I feel like this is way too common on this site which is kind of a risky thing to do since that's the easiest way to lose the trust of the readers.
Anyway, I do think Astro Bot deserves the GOTY. But even then, I think Feng Ji's response was quite reasonable as long as you actually try and understand what they mean, and don't just let video game sites paint the picture for you.
I can guarantee that anyone who was nominated and didn't win felt disappointed. So I can understand how they feel, especially after the game being in development for a long time. But saying it out loud is probably not the way to go.
That said, based on the quotes in this article, I don't think they ever mentioned Astro Bot by name or claimed that it didn't deserve the award. Wish you guys would stop using so clickbaity titles.
@Rodimusprime1313 The comparison image just compares the new patch to the original release. But anyway, the new PS2 emulator they use has some new features like rewind and save states compared to the old emulator they used. I think emulation makes a lot of sense especially for games that would likely never get a remaster/remake.
That's great to hear, but I would also appreciate having the option to use original resolution with integer scaling to get super sharp pixels. PS2 games were designed with certain resolution in mind, so this would help make the image more cohesive. Besides, options never hurt.
@Matroska The difference is, we get plenty of Star Wars media all the time. Indiana Jones feels much older because we barely get anything Indy related these days.
I don't like free to play games, but this seems interesting enough to potentially give it a try. If it seems like you practically need microtransactions to progress in the game, I will stop immediately.
The PS1 intro/bootup video is awesome, but I don't really like how these themes look. They're just a static image slapped on the home menu. Still, pretty cool.
@Juanalf Even if PSSR itself is not at fault, I think Sony really needs to improve their documentation and give support to developers who are implementing PSSR. Clearly there's a lot of room for improvement, some of which can be improved by improving PSSR, and some of which can be improved by giving developers the knowledge and tools to actually implement it properly.
@RedRiot193 Cafe is only a small part of the single player. The main thing are the races that are found in the World Circuits menu. You can also access the races through Event Directory which works pretty much exactly the same as previous games in the series, as you can choose Sunday cup event and play through all the races in that cup.
@RedRiot193 I have a lot of nostalgia for GT4, but I think GT7 is pretty darn good as well. I didn't enjoy GT Sports because it lacks single player content, but GT7 has a lot to do (especially these days after countless updates).
@doctommaso The problem is, the target audience for Lego games is obviously kids. Horizon games on the other hand, while not rated M, are for slightly older audiences. Not many kids have played Horizon games, so you can see why the game isn't as popular as other Lego games with Batman, Harry Potter etc. It doesn't help that PC is a platform generally not used by kids.
@Deljo Actually, I'm not 100% sure if it's technically screen door effect or Mura. Either way, it's noticeable in some scenes and not noticeable in others. While playing the intro cinematic of Resident Evil 4, it was extremely obvious, but when actually playing I didn't really notice it much. So it's definitely usable, and you get used to it.
But I'd say this is just a limitation of VR in general and not a problem exclusive to PSVR. I've experienced it before on my Meta Quest 2. While 4K image has a lot of pixels, it's not that much when it fills your whole view. And in the case of SDE/Mura, those inconsistencies will be right in front of your eye and appear larger than on a regular TV. But again, use it for a while and you'll likely get used to it.
I bought a PSVR 2 today now that it is finally reasonably priced. I had a lot of fun with GT7, Tetris Effect and Beat Saber. Now, the screendoor effect is quite obvious, but in general a great VR headset.
So what's the news here? All I see is speculation that the game might be fixed by the time it releases on PS5, without any statement from the developer or anything.
@Bamila Designing hardware takes a long time. They can't just take a chip and release a system with it a year later. There's a reason why we're already hearing rumours about it, and that's because they've started designing it pretty much immediately after PS5 came out. They also have to make a good deal with AMD to keep price in check, so using cutting edge hardware is unlikely.
For the handheld, they really should be using ARM processor instead of Zen4/5 (which is amd64/x86) to be as energy efficient as possible. Unfortunately it would make backwards compatibility difficult without some technical wizardry.
@Mikey856 Steam Deck is selling very well in its market. Handheld PCs have been a niche market for a long time, with devices from GPD etc selling relatively low numbers. It deserves all the praise too, since having a handheld device to play games in your Steam library is extremely convenient. It's not a portable PS5, but then, no portable device is. Keep your resolution in check and it will play games well for a 2022 device.
Not sure if Bloodborne remake would make sense considering it only released last generation, but an enhanced/fixed version for PS5 would be appreciated. Anyway, they should give Souls games remakes/remasters to Bluepoint, they did a great job with Demon's Souls.
@FlyingPig Possibly, but I do recall other games being locked behind PS Plus for a long time. Ridge Racer Type 4 was one, and it took forever until you could buy it.
I'm not 100% sure if this applies to Legacy of Kain as well, but the wording in this article suggests so.
I also dislike how the PS1/PS2 Classic collection includes some remasters for PS4/PS5. I don't care about those, just show me the original retro games please.
Kind of weird how people assumed this was going to work exactly like the previous Lego games when it's a completely different developer. The last Lego game made by Traveller's Tales was Skywalker Saga.
Anyway, I'm not a big fan of Horizon games. I played them both, and they're fine, but nothing truely special in my opinion. Bummer that this one isn't great, but I'm sure the target audience will enjoy it anyway.
@EfYI Yeah, I get it. I have a low/mid-range PC with RTX3060 myself which costs more than PS5 Pro, but not by that much (it was 999€ a few years ago, so pretty much the price of PS5 Pro with the disc drive... in Europe anyway). I don't think an average user needs a RTX 4090 because you have the freedom to turn the settings down (which allows you to play games on older PCs as well). But yeah, the higher tier Nvidia cards are ridiculously expensive.
I also have an Android phone so Apple can keep their iPhones.
@ThatVSMbro Oh, don't get me wrong, I could afford PS5 Pro as well. But I don't think it's worth it. It's not just about the price, but the value it offers.
