Re: Reaction: Sony's Licensing Strategy May Be the Best Route to Reviving Some of PlayStation's Lost Classics

Kingdom_Hearts95

Maybe The Legend of Dragoon could receive a modern remaster with some added quality of life improvements through this strategy with Bandai Namco.

I’m really thankful we have The Legend of Dragoon available on PS5 and PS4 as part of their PS1 Classics Catalogue, don’t get me wrong, but I’m just thinking maybe it’s possible for a wider audience to experience the classic PS1 JRPG through a strategy like this. The same goes for a lot of other older Sony IPs.

While I think the best dream scenario would be for Sony itself to develop a full on remake of The Legend of Dragoon for PS5 or PS6, I just don’t know if such a thing is realistic. But a remaster of the PS1 game itself with some added quality of life improvements, on the other hand, could be more of a possibility at this point, I think.

Nothing is guaranteed, of course, but I’ve long since learned to never say never to miracles happening in the video game industry. I’ve seen too many good things happen to rule out the possibility of an older IP given a bit of a new life or brought back in some way. Again, nothing is guaranteed, but I’ve learned to never say never at this point. And this strategy with licensing out IPs to Bandai Namco is one more example for me to remember and continue to believe that good things can happen, and that older IPs can be brought back in some way or another.

Re: Rumour: Gears of War, Hellblade 2 Both Set for PS5 This Year

Kingdom_Hearts95

I would probably play Hellblade 2 on PS5 if this turns out to be true. I love the first Hellblade, and although I did purchase Hellblade 2 on Steam, I haven’t actually finished it yet, lol. So if it came to PS5, it might give me an incentive to pick it up again and finish it.

The reason I didn’t finish it on Steam was actually just because there’s been so many games coming out over the past long while that I want to play, that I just kind of had to pick and choose between them, and Hellblade 2 just ended up on my backlog, unfortunately. I was enjoying it a lot, but then another game came out that ended up taking priority. That situation happens a lot with me. 😅

Re: Huge List of 18 Major Games to Leave PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Month

Kingdom_Hearts95

Man, first a whole bunch of Final Fantasy games leave the service, then the Star Ocean games ended up leaving, and now the Kingdom Hearts games as well. There's always the chance they could return in the future, but still, as of right now, those are three of my favorite video game franchises that largely won't be on PS Plus.

Oh well. I bought all of them on the PS Store anyways. But my heart goes out to those who might primarily play PS Plus Premium and Extra available games, and now won't have access to either the Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, or Kingdom Hearts franchises for the time being.

Then again, it had to happen at some point. Services like these don't keep most games on their catalogue forever.

Re: Astro Bot Has Over 150 PlayStation Character Cameos

Kingdom_Hearts95

I would personally love to see a cameo of Dart from The Legend of Dragoon! The chances might be slim, but I think it would be awesome to see The Legend of Dragoon acknowledged by Team Asobi as a part of PlayStation history.

Other than The Legend of Dragoon, I would also love to see cameos from Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XVI, Kingdom Hearts, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro. (Those last two are anyone’s guess since Microsoft owns Spyro and Crash now, but I don’t think the chances are impossible.)

Re: PS5, PS4's Brand New PS2 Emulator Features Up-Rendering, Rewind, Quick Saves, More

Kingdom_Hearts95

Although the chances might be slim, I hope that they’ll go back and update the PS4 release of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time with these new features and hopefully patch the crashing issues I’ve heard so much about too.

We finally have all 6 mainline Star Ocean games on PS5 and PS4, which I never even dreamed would be possible as a fan of the Star Ocean series. That itself is a miracle, in all honesty, and one that I am very thankful and happy about.

And although I didn’t experience the crashing issues that some people did when I replayed Star Ocean: Till the End of Time on PS4 a few years ago, I have heard from others that they have experienced more frequent crashing of the game when they played it, which concerns me a little.

One of my favorite parts of the Star Ocean series is how each game features a lot of post game content (such as challenging post game secret dungeons) and lots of replay-ability. I feel like every game in the series has done an excellent job at that especially.

But with the frequent crashing issues I’ve heard about from some people regarding the PS4 port of Till the End of Time, I feel like that makes it less ideal for people to take on the fun and challenging post game content.

So hopefully they’ll go back and address that with the PS4 port, since it’s technically labeled as a “PS2 Classic” on the PlayStation Store, albeit one of the ones with their older emulation features.

Even if the chances are slim, I hope that it can be fixed. Regardless, though, I am happy to see them bringing new features like rewinds and save states to PS2 Classics going forward.

I personally look forward to playing the native port of Sly Cooper especially. I’ve only played a little bit of Sly Cooper before, but I’ve always wanted to give it more of a chance because the games look intriguing to me.

I’ll definitely be downloading Sly Cooper and the other PS2 Classics, and maybe it’s about time for me to give Sly Cooper another go, especially since it’s a native port.

Re: New PS2 Emulator Appears to Be Imminent on PS5, PS4

Kingdom_Hearts95

@Martijn87 Yes! Oh my goodness; that would be a dream come true! I still have all my PS1 and PS2 discs in pretty good condition. I doubt it’ll happen, but wouldn’t it be absolutely amazing if it somehow did?

And if they somehow found a way to support PS3 discs as well (although that might be the hardest one of all for them to do, regarding the PS3’s unique architecture), oh man. That would also get me to buy a PS5 Pro in a heartbeat!

Re: New PS2 Emulator Appears to Be Imminent on PS5, PS4

Kingdom_Hearts95

As a big Star Ocean fan, although I’m thankful we have a port of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time on PS4 and PS5, I will admit that it would be nice to see an improved emulated version of it. Save states and rewind could count as good quality of life improvements for the classic PS2 game. And while I didn’t encounter the game crashing on either my PS4 or my PS5 other than maybe a couple times, I have heard that for other people the port of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time crashes for them frequently, which is worrisome.

I hope we can possibly get a new PS2 emulated port of Star Ocean: Till the End of Time on PS4 and PS5, mostly so that hopefully the crashing issues can be fixed, but also for the other benefits of the modern emulated titles Sony releases nowadays.

As of right now, I’m super happy that all 6 mainline Star Ocean games are available to play on PS5 and PS4. Considering it’s more of a niche franchise, I honestly never thought I’d see the day when all 6 of them are available on a single platform. If they can release an updated version of Till the End of Time on PS5 and PS4, then modern PlayStation will be the perfect place for fans of the Star Ocean series.

As for other potential PS2 games I might like to see on PS4 and PS5:

  • Radiata Stories
  • Tales of the Abyss
  • Drakengard
  • SSX 3
  • Gran Turismo 3
  • Gran Turismo 4
  • The movie tie in game for Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
  • Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

Re: Reaction: Why You Shouldn't Worry Too Much About PS5's Year-on-Year Decline

Kingdom_Hearts95

@Martijn87 Yes, that’s very true. Negativity is almost everywhere online nowadays, and people do often try to spin positive news in negative ways. That’s why I try to advocate and focus on positivity. Not to ignore the negative or get away from it, but to have a happier mindset overall because too much negativity can be unhealthy. You said this in a much better way than I could, so thank you for that.

And yeah, if Nintendo’s next console is powerful enough, I think Sony will probably have to rethink their strategy a little. Much of the Japanese market especially likes the portable factor of the Switch, after all. That might cause Sony to consider how they can appeal to customers who find portable gaming a better fit for their lifestyles. That’ll be interesting to see.

It’s during challenging times like that when I try to remind myself that competition is good for the industry, and mistakes companies might make can lead to better outcomes later down the road. I’m hopeful that Square Enix can find more success going forward with their new strategies, as one example. I personally have loved almost everything they’ve released over the past few years, but it’s true that Square Enix’s games haven’t quite reached the financial heights they hoped for.

Part of that may be due to having too high of expectations, but I think that’s debatable. All we can do is wait and see what the future holds, and hope for the best, as you said.

Re: Reaction: Why You Shouldn't Worry Too Much About PS5's Year-on-Year Decline

Kingdom_Hearts95

“The games industry is caught in a tidal wave of negativity, and if you pay attention to social media, you may be forgiven for thinking the sky is falling.”

Social media isn’t the only place that gives off this impression. I often feel like video game journalism itself is just as doom and gloom focused — very much including this website. Don’t get me wrong; there’s a lot of good, informative articles covered on this website too. But Push Square has just as much doom and gloom coverage as social media and many other video game journalism websites do. It’s not as bad as some websites, but it’s certainly not the most positive place to hear information either.

And by the way, this is just feedback. You don’t have to take it if you don’t want to, but I just want to clarify that this is simply feedback in case anyone gets upset at me.

Re: Media Molecule Confirms Report of Layoffs, Has Begun Consultation Process

Kingdom_Hearts95

Oh man. This is so sad to me. My heart goes out to all those affected at Media Molecule, and I hope and pray that they can find employment elsewhere in a timely manner. I love Media Molecule and all of the wonderful projects I’ve experienced from them. I hope and pray that their next game can be more profitable for them and that future unfortunate situations like this can be better avoided. My heart goes out to everyone affected by these layoffs.

Re: Star Ocean The Second Story R Adopts a Bold Visual Style on PS5, PS4

Kingdom_Hearts95

I am literally so incredibly excited for this! I’m a huge Star Ocean fan, and I love every game in the series, but Star Ocean 2 has always been my favorite in the franchise. Star Ocean: The Second Story was one of the first video games I played, so naturally I have a lot of nostalgia for it. I replayed that game quite a few times. But it’s not just the nostalgia that causes me to love it. Star Ocean 2 is also just a great game in general.

I’ve been hoping for a remaster for several years now. Japan has had a PS4 port of the PSP version of the game since 2015, and I have been hoping for some version of Star Ocean 2 to make it to modern platforms here in the west for quite a long time now.

Now, it looks like my prayers have been answered. This looks absolutely beautiful! It’s not a direct remaster like I had imagined when the logo leaked a few days ago, but it’s something even better. It looks like a wonderful remake of Star Ocean 2 that remains very faithful to the original game while modernizing certain details in the design. I am so incredibly hyped for this!

And the best part is that once this releases, all of the mainline Star Ocean games will finally be available to play on PS4 and PS5! This is a miraculous dream come true for a longtime Star Ocean fan like me!

Re: Whoopsie! Square Enix Just Leaked Another Star Ocean Remaster

Kingdom_Hearts95

This is a miracle! I’ve been hoping for a remaster of Star Ocean 2 for several years now! I’m a huge fan of the Star Ocean series, and I have great appreciation for all of the games in the series. That being said, Star Ocean: The Second Story was one of the first games I played. As such, Star Ocean 2 is a very special game to me that is near and dear to my heart. I really hope this logo leak turns out to be real. Based on the looks of it, I think it just might be. If so, then this is truly a miracle!

Re: Original Crash Bandicoot Voice Actor Brendan O'Brien Has Passed, Aged 60

Kingdom_Hearts95

@AverageGamer I personally agree that Microsoft owning Crash and Spyro is better than just Activision alone owning them. I do feel that it is a little strange to see once PlayStation mascots of sorts soon to be potentially owned by Microsoft, as I have fond memories of both Spyro and Crash on PS1. But I think as strange as it feels, my two childhood friends, Spyro and Crash, are definitely in a safer home with Microsoft than if they were to remain only owned by Activision. That idea is comforting to me.

I also think that, while not guaranteed, it could still be very possible that Microsoft will continue to ship potential future Crash and Spyro games to other platforms than just Xbox and PC. I think it's still possible that if the deal goes through, we could still see potential new games in both IPs made available on Sony and Nintendo hardware. I think Vicarious Visions and Toys for Bob did an outstanding job remastering both original PS1 trilogies, and making another really great Crash game as well, but yes, sadly Activision as it remains seems more focused on Call of Duty than anything else.

So, yes, I also think Spyro and Crash would be in better hands with Microsoft owning them, as strange and bittersweet as it feels to see them as Microsoft IPs with their PlayStation oriented history.

Re: Square Enix Wants to Release More Higher Quality Games, Starting with Final Fantasy 16

Kingdom_Hearts95

It's nice to hear that Square Enix wants to continue to improve the quality of their games. That being said, there were several games from Square Enix released last year and this year so far that I have personally enjoyed very much. Even if some of them didn't have the best graphics or visual quality, the gameplay, combat, stories, characters, and music of the games I particularly loved were all of excellent quality in my personal opinion.

Some of the games I really loved from Square Enix last year and this year include Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, Star Ocean: The Divine Force, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, Octopath Traveler II, and Theatrhythm Final Bar Line. Yes, some of those games did receive mixed reviews, but I personally do not like to rely fully on reviews to decide for myself whether a game is "worth playing" or not. If I'm interested in a game, especially if it's in a franchise I love like Star Ocean, of course I'm going to buy it and play it regardless of what the review scores are. Quite honestly, I disagree with many of the criticisms and lower scores given to games like Star Ocean: The Divine Force. Same with Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. I really loved both of those games. I thought Star Ocean: The Divine Force was a wonderful return to form for the Star Ocean franchise, and was much better overall than Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness. I would easily give Star Ocean: The Divine Force a solid 8.5/10, personally. I respect that everyone has different opinions, including reviewers. But that's the thing. For me personally, I see reviews as simply other people's opinions. I don't personally like to define whether a game is worth playing or not because of something someone else said, especially in a franchise I already love, like Star Ocean or Final Fantasy. It's fine if others want to use reviews as guidelines — especially if they're trying to be extra conscious of their money. Sometimes I use reviews as guidelines too for that same reason, but I personally never like to form an opinion of my own until I have actually played and finished playing a game myself. I like to wait to form my opinion until then. For games I haven't played, I personally hate to bash on or heavily criticize until I have actually played it myself. If that means I end up not having an opinion on something because I haven't played it, oh well. It's not a big deal to me personally, and I would much rather wait to judge a game completely until I've played it than just follow whatever others say without thinking for myself.

I will admit, however, that I do like that Square Enix wants to continue to improve the quality of their games. I've personally loved so many of their games in recent years — even ones that a lot of other people hated. While this news is certainly music to my ears, I personally have extremely little to complain about Square Enix as it has been the past few years. Others may disagree, but we're each entitled to our own opinions and perspectives, and this is just my opinion.

Re: Sony Somehow Screwed Up The Legend of Dragoon on PS5, PS4

Kingdom_Hearts95

I’m hopeful that they’ll patch it in time. I love The Legend of Dragoon. The Legend of Dragoon was the very second RPG I ever played, right after Star Ocean: The Second Story. As such, The Legend of Dragoon (and the Star Ocean series too, but this is about The Legend of Dragoon) is very beloved to me. I hope they patch this port of the game in time. It would be heartbreaking to have it in this condition and never have it fixed.

Re: Round Up: Star Ocean: The Divine Force Reviews Say It's Pretty Good

Kingdom_Hearts95

I personally don’t care much for reviews, although I will say that I do sometimes get excited about games that receive positive review scores. That being said, I am going to play Star Ocean: The Divine Force and judge it for myself. I personally find many reviewers to be a bit too picky at times, and I’ve found a lot of enjoyment in games that various reviewers have given scores of “6 out of 10” or “7 out of 10”. In many of those cases, I personally disagree with the scores given, as I find myself often giving the game a higher score in my own opinion in most cases. The same goes for movies and other formats of media entertainment. There have even been reviews that have given scores of “4 out of 10” that at first had me concerned, but then when I actually played the game or watched the movie, I was like, “Wow, I thought that was actually amazing!” So, really, reviews are just opinions to me in most cases, and while everyone certainly has the right to decide for themselves what they like and don’t like, I usually prefer to just play games I’m interested in and form my own opinions.

I think it’s fine to use reviews as a guideline if you’re unsure about a game and you’re wanting to be careful with money. Sometimes it can be very helpful. However, I don’t think it’s good to depend on reviews or just believe the reviews blindly either. A review is really just one person’s opinion, and I think that it’s important to develop one’s own opinions and decide for themselves what they like and don’t like, rather than just depend on reviews to “know what you should play”. Again, I think it’s fine to use reviews as guidelines in the case you’re not sure whether to spend your money on it, but I don’t think it’s good to always just go with what the reviews say either. I feel like if you always depend on reviews, you’re really giving up your own choices of deciding what you personally like and dislike. I don’t think giving up your own opportunities to form your own personal opinions out of fear of spending money on something you may or may not like is a good way to live life. It’s important for people to make their own decisions and discover for themselves what they personally prefer.

I have found many times that reviews are in line with what I think about a game, but I
I’ve also found many times that I end up disagreeing with various reviews and the scores that they give games. Either way, I just see reviews as opinions, and even if reviewers are pretty harsh on a game I usually prefer to form my own opinion — especially if it’s a game I’m interested in and have been anticipating. In the case of Star Ocean: The Divine Force, I’m going to be playing it no matter what, because I’m a longtime fan of the Star Ocean series, and I also want to support the development team who worked on it.

Re: PlayStation Japan Returns with Another Musical Montage of PS5, PS4 Games

Kingdom_Hearts95

I’m super happy to see Star Ocean: The Divine Force get some more much deserved recognition in this trailer. I’m very excited for the release of that game in about a couple weeks. As a longtime Star Ocean fan myself, I’m impressed with the various trailers they’ve shown and with the demo that I played.

And of course, I’m also extremely excited for Final Fantasy XVI. I hope all the talk about a potential new trailer coming soon turns out to be true. Hopefully that game will generate a little more momentum in sales of the PS5 in Japan. I feel like the PS5 is actually doing great for a home console in Japan based on the sales numbers they’ve shared (even if the Switch is massively more successful there), but I still hope that Final Fantasy XVI and other games help move even more units in Japan (and everywhere else too).

Lots of exciting games to look forward to!

Re: PS5, PSVR2 to Feature in Sony State of Play Livestream Tomorrow

Kingdom_Hearts95

How exciting! Tomorrow’s going to have a good amount of gaming news with both the Nintendo Direct and the PlayStation State of Play!

For the State of Play specifically, more updates on any of these games would be incredible:

  • Final Fantasy XVI
  • Kingdom Hearts IV
  • Star Ocean: The Divine Force
  • Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
  • Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

I’d be happy with anything new on any of those games. If there is by chance any news on games that haven’t been announced yet, it would be a dream come true to see either a new remaster or modern port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution for at least PS4 and Switch, a new Ni No Kuni game, a new Devil May Cry game, or even The Legend of Dragoon coming to PS Plus Premium. I’m not expecting any of those, but it would still be pretty cool if by some chance any of those happened.

Re: Disney & Marvel Games Showcase to Spotlight New and Upcoming PS5, PS4 Releases

Kingdom_Hearts95

The biggest things I want to see from this event might not be there at all, but I guess based on past surprises, you never know. I really just want to see another update on something Kingdom Hearts related. Whether it’s an update on Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link or maybe a Steam port of the series on PC. I probably wouldn’t get my hopes up for an update on Kingdom Hearts IV, because that’s still in early development, but who knows? Aside from Kingdom Hearts, something related to a single player Star Wars game would be great. Maybe Star Wars: Jedi Survivor? Disney Speedstorm, the kart racer they’re working on, looks fun, so that would be fun to see too. Overall, I just long for even more Kingdom Hearts representation at events like these, but the time may not be right. We’ll see.

Re: Star Ocean: The Divine Force Details D.U.M.A, Vanguard Assault Systems in New Trailer

Kingdom_Hearts95

Being a long time Star Ocean fan, the series will always hold a special place in my heart. Star Ocean: The Second Story was not only my first Star Ocean game, but also one of the first games I ever played, and the game that launched my love for JRPGs. To this day, the only Star Ocean title that has personally disappointed me is Integrity and Faithlessness. I’ve loved all the other games in the series, though.

Fortunately, the more I see of this new one, The Divine Force, the more impressed I am and the more excited I get. I’m still keeping my expectations tempered after my disappointment with Integrity and Faithlessness, but regardless I think The Divine Force looks like it could be much better. In fact, it actually looks pretty good. I pre ordered it, and I eagerly look forward to its release date. So far, so good. You can do it, Tri Ace!

Re: Final Fantasy 10 Series Blitzes Past 20 Million Units Sold

Kingdom_Hearts95

Final Fantasy X is my second favorite entry in the entire Final Fantasy series. It was also the very first Final Fantasy game that I played. Final Fantasy VII is my overall favorite entry in the franchise, but Final Fantasy X comes very, very close to it for me. The game will always hold a special place in my heart. And this news of the game and its sequel selling 20 million units in its lifetime, well, Isn't it Wonderful? (Pun intended)

Re: Star Ocean: The Divine Force's Dual Protagonists Get Dual Character Trailers

Kingdom_Hearts95

I’m a long time fan of Star Ocean, and I’ve personally loved every game in the series except for Integrity and Faithlessness. That one was just okay. This one, The Divine Force, is looking like it has a lot of potential to me. I really like what I’ve seen of it so far. I’m hopeful it’ll be better than Integrity and Faithlessness was, and so far, it looks like it very well could be.

Re: Best PSP Games

Kingdom_Hearts95

A good list overall, but there are a couple other PSP games I can think of that deserve just as much recognition. Namely Star Ocean: Second Evolution and Jeanne D'arc. Both of those were excellent JRPGs, the former of which is a solid remaster of what many people consider the very best Star Ocean game.

Re: Star Ocean: The Divine Force Locks October Release Date on PS5, PS4

Kingdom_Hearts95

This looks very promising so far! I like what I see. I'm a huge Star Ocean fan, and I've loved every game in the series except for Integrity and Faithlessness. That one was just okay. I'm hopeful that this one will be better, and so far it looks like it very well could be.

Hopefully at some point we'll also get either a localization of the Japanese PS4 port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution or a new remaster of it. Star Ocean 2 is my favorite one in the series, and it's the only one not currently available on PS4 (at least outside of Japan, that is).

Re: Square Enix Hosting Star Ocean: The Divine Force Showcase Next Week

Kingdom_Hearts95

This is the best news I’ve heard all day! I’m a huge Star Ocean fan. I’ve loved every game in the franchise except for Integrity and Faithlessness, which was just okay. I’m hopeful that The Divine Force will be better than Integrity and Faithlessness, but I’m still keeping my expectations tempered. Regardless, I think it’s actually a miracle that we’re even getting a new Star Ocean game at all. I’ll definitely be eagerly looking forward to June 29 to see more on The Divine Force. I also hope that the Japanese PS4 port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution will receive a localization or a new remaster at some point in the future too, but I know even ports and remasters take time and resources. Either way, I’m very excited! I’m keeping my expectations tempered, but I’m still excited all the same!

Re: Star Ocean: The Divine Force Not Part of State of Play

Kingdom_Hearts95

@KidBoruto Likewise! I'm glad there's still a fanbase for Star Ocean. We may have differing tastes in some ways, such as liking certain entries more than others, but I'm happy that there's people who are passionate about Star Ocean — even if the numbers aren't quite as huge as Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts (I love both of those too).

Re: Star Ocean: The Divine Force Not Part of State of Play

Kingdom_Hearts95

While it is a little disappointing that I’ll have to wait a little longer for more information on the new Star Ocean, I’m just happy and thankful that we received an update from the Star Ocean Twitter Account. It sounds like they’re working hard on it and want to please as many fans as possible. They won’t be able to please everyone, because very rarely does anything actually please everyone, but based on the footage we’ve seen and the updates from the developers, I think this new Star Ocean might have potential. I’m not expecting it to be one of the best in the series. I’m just hopeful that it’ll be better than Integrity and Faithlessness was. Integrity and Faithlessness was just okay. It had a lot of enjoyable aspects for me, but the overall game wasn’t as good as all the other Star Ocean titles. I’m hopeful that The Divine Force will be better, and based on what we’ve seen so far, I have hope.

Re: State of Play Showcase for Thursday Confirmed, PSVR2 Games Included

Kingdom_Hearts95

@KidBoruto I would love any of those announcements if they happened! Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, Final Fantasy XIII getting a port or remaster, or Star Ocean: The Divine Force news would each be incredible.

I would also absolutely love to see a port or remaster of Star Ocean: Second Evolution. They currently have a PS4 version in Japan, but only in Japan. Star Ocean 2 is my personal favorite Star Ocean title, so I’m hoping one day they’ll either localize the Japanese PS4 port or give it the same treatment as First Departure R. That would also be an exciting announcement for me personally. I love pretty much all the Star Ocean games, except for Star Ocean 5. Star Ocean 5 was okay, but not great in my opinion. It was enjoyable for what it was, though, and I’m hopeful Star Ocean 6 will be better than Star Ocean 5 was. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it looks like it has potential.

Re: State of Play Showcase for Thursday Confirmed, PSVR2 Games Included

Kingdom_Hearts95

@KidBoruto Yeah, you’re probably right about God of War not appearing at this one. It might, but based of the wording it does seem like it’ll be primarily third party games and PSVR2 games.

I still hope we see new information on Final Fantasy XVI or Star Ocean: The Divine Force, though! Those are both third party and it would make me so happy to see updates on those.

Re: State of Play Showcase for Thursday Confirmed, PSVR2 Games Included

Kingdom_Hearts95

I’m personally hoping for new information on either Final Fantasy XVI, God of War: Ragnarok, Star Ocean: The Divine Force, or even the next part of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Announcements or new information on any of those games would be super exciting for me!

I’m interested to see what they have in store for PSVR2 as well. I honestly have no idea what they might have in store for that, but it sounds exciting!

Re: Tales of Arise Sequel Not in Bandai Namco's Plans, Despite Sales Success

Kingdom_Hearts95

I personally loved the ending of Tales of Arise, and I wouldn't really be that excited if they decided to make a sequel and tamper with the already beautiful ending it has. Unless they had a really good idea for how to continue the story (which has happened before with games and movies) I think I'm very satisfied with the wonderful ending already in place for Tales of Arise. I still listen to the theme song that plays during the ending sequence from time to time, and each time I listen to "Blue Moon" I remember how inspirationally captivating that ending was to me.

Re: Talking Point: What PS1, PS2, and PSP Games Do You Want on PS Plus Premium?

Kingdom_Hearts95

@shadow2k It was on the PSP back in the day, but what I’m referring to are the modern ports of the Star Ocean games. All of them are available on PS4 digitally except for Second Evolution. In my opinion, and in the opinions of many others, Second Evolution/The Second Story is the best Star Ocean title, and yet it’s the only one that isn’t available on modern platforms outside of Japan. They have it digitally for PS4 in Japan, but we’re still waiting for them to port it outside of Japan.

Re: Talking Point: What PS1, PS2, and PSP Games Do You Want on PS Plus Premium?

Kingdom_Hearts95

I know it’s not as likely, but I would love to see either Star Ocean: The Second Story or Star Ocean: Second Evolution available with this service. Star Ocean 2 is the only Star Ocean we don’t have on modern platforms outside of Japan, so I hope we either get it through PS Plus Premium or with a proper HD port of it on modern platforms later down the road. I also want to see The Legend of Dragoon, as well as the original versions of the PS1 Spyro games.

Re: Poll: We Want You to Rate Your Favourite PSP Games

Kingdom_Hearts95

I loved playing on my PSP back in the day. Some of my personal favorite PSP games were:

  • Star Ocean: First Departure
  • Star Ocean: Second Evolution
  • Jeanne D'arc
  • Little Big Planet (PSP Version)
  • Daxter (Jak and Daxter Spin-off)

Of course, I also really loved being able to play PSone classics on the PSP as well. Especially Spyro and The Legend of Dragoon.

I still have my PSP, and it still works. However, the battery kind of warped over time (which I found out just in time was a common issue), so I removed the warped battery before it caused any damage. Thankfully, I can still play it just fine as long as it is plugged in with its charger. That's a really cool thing about the PSP; it can run just fine and play games while plugged in, even if you don't have a battery inside of it. Since we're STILL waiting on Square Enix to port Star Ocean: Second Evolution on to modern platforms outside of Japan, I'm thankful I at least still have my PSP and my copy of Star Ocean: Second Evolution for it.

Re: So, It Seems Xbox Really Will Keep Activision Games Like Call of Duty on PS5, PS4

Kingdom_Hearts95

I’m super relieved to hear this news. Assuming everything goes forward as Microsoft says they want it to, it sure sounds to me like Microsoft will indeed keep many Activision games multi-platform. I’m not really into Call of Duty, but some of Activision’s other franchises (namely Spyro and Crash Bandicoot) were a huge part of my childhood and I do feel that they should at the very least be available on PlayStation — even though it’s been over 20 years since they were exclusive to PlayStation. I do have that nostalgia for those games. So, hopefully this will be the case — which sure sounds like it right now. I own an Xbox Series S and a Nintendo Switch alongside my PS5, so I wouldn’t really be missing out if such games were kept exclusive to Microsoft, but it just feels like some of Activision’s franchises have a strong history with PlayStation. Regardless of how long it’s been, there is an important history there nonetheless. It also sounds like Sony intends to keep Bungie games multi-platform, and that also feels right to me because of Bungie’s important history with Microsoft. Just like Spyro and Crash have a history with PlayStation, so too does Bungie’s roots with Microsoft. It wouldn’t be the end of the game industry if things weren’t like this, of course. Even if all these acquisitions ended up being exclusives, I personally feel like things would still be okay. However, hearing these words from Microsoft are just comforting in a way. Not because of fanboyism or anything like that (I own consoles from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, after all), but rather because it just honors the history of things and keeps my inner child alive in a way too.

Re: New and Existing Bungie Games Will Not Become PS5, PS4 Exclusives

Kingdom_Hearts95

I think this is the right approach. I don’t play Destiny, but I think for big acquisitions like these, keeping the games multi-platform is best for everyone. Hopefully Microsoft will also do this, or at least take a somewhat similar approach with Activision properties. I think it would make Microsoft look very bad if they made all of Activision’s properties Microsoft exclusive. I for one, would still love to play future Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms too. I also own an Xbox, so I can definitely still play those games if they become Microsoft exclusives. I just have so much nostalgia for the classic Spyro and Crash games on PS1, and I think the remasters for Activision did a wonderful job of replicating that nostalgia. It’s certainly not the end of the gaming industry if Microsoft does keep Activision exclusive, but Sony clearly sees that keeping Bungie games multi-platform can still make them a lot of profit.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling what the future holds at this time, so for now all I can do is wait and hope that all gaming platforms can successfully compete and thrive. The industry wouldn’t be the same without PlayStation, Nintendo, or Microsoft. Each of them continue to contribute their own good things within the industry. They’ve each contributed bad things too, of course, but I still believe that the industry is better with those three each successfully thriving.

I’m especially looking forward to the games already announced, like Horizon II: Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and God of War: Ragnarok. I’m also really anticipating what studios such as Naughty Dog, Team Asobi, and Sucker Punch have up their sleeves. I still hope for either a remaster or perhaps a remake of The Legend of Dragoon, but I know that’s not very likely. Oh well, there’s still plenty of JRPG support for PS5 and PS4 from various Japanese developers anyways. It may not be as big in Japan as the Nintendo Switch, but the fact is there’s still a really sizable audience both in and out of Japan who play of PlayStation platforms — even with the competition from Nintendo Switch and PC.

Aside from first party exclusives, I’m especially eager to find out more about Final Fantasy XVI, as well as the inevitable sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake. Both of those might be some time away from now, though. I’m also hoping that they’ll announce a new Kingdom Hearts game next year for the series’ 20th anniversary. And we just got an announcement recently that I thought would never happen: Star Ocean! Even if it’s not among the best Star Ocean games or not absolutely amazing, I’m still incredibly thankful that Square Enix and Tri Ace are making another Star Ocean at all. That by itself is such a miracle to me, and although it probably won’t be as good as the likes of Star Ocean: Second Evolution, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, or Star Ocean: The Last Hope, I’m very much looking forward to it regardless of how it turns out.

I personally think there’s a lot to look forward to and be thankful for regarding future games on PS5.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Will Now Offer Free PS4 to PS5 Upgrade, Sony Confirms

Wow, I was not expecting Sony to make such a turnaround. This is great! Thank you, Sony. Although I already own a PS5 and will probably only download the PS5 version anyways, I’m happy for the many others who don’t yet own a PS5, but want the upgrade option for later down the road when they can get one. I also think the whole, going forward, it will cost $10 to upgrade, is fair enough. It might be disappointing to some, but I personally think it’s fair as long as they stay true to those words.

Re: PS5 Games Are Still Selling Poorly at Retail in Japan

Kingdom_Hearts95

I personally don't think that Japan has lost interest in Sony or the PlayStation consoles to the degree that some people have expressed. I think that there are many different factors to consider; not just one or two factors that determine everything. I do think that the Nintendo Switch has dominated the Japanese market, but I don't think that means the PS5 is all of a sudden a "failure" in Japan. Even if the PS5 only sells as well as the PS4 did, that's a big accomplishment in the Japanese market for a home console. Of course the portable market is much bigger; there's no denying that at this current point in time. But there's still a market for PlayStation consoles in Japan. It may not be as big as handhelds, but it's still there. I don't think it's very accurate to assume that everybody (or even the vast majority of people) in a particular market region of the world has the same exact interests and amount of time/money, because really everyone has their own unique situations. Even in the United States and countries within Europe there' s so many different tastes and individual markets to take into account. I think it's fair to say that Japan also has different people with different tastes and interests. The PlayStation audience does exist there, and it's okay that it's not as big as Nintendo's market. I also agree with the people who have pointed out that digital sales haven't been taken into account here. I think that's a huge point, because even if there's a lot of people who prefer buying games physically, the very fact that digital sales aren't even a part of this data leaves out anyone who bought the games digitally. And although we can't tell for certain if there's that many people buying digital games on PlayStation in Japan based on this data, I don't think that's any reason to rule out the possibility that there are. Until we see both physical and digital sales taken into account, I think based on this data, we are missing a big piece of the puzzle. Plus, I personally bought the PS5 with the disc drive and I don't even purchase many physical games anymore. The reason I chose the model with the disc drive isn't because I only play physical games. It's because I have other uses for it, such as Blu-ray Discs of movies that aren't available to stream, or PS4 backwards compatible games that I already own physically. I think a lot of people have similar reasons for purchasing the model with the disc drive, because for them it may just feel a little more comfortable to have options, even if they primarily buy games digitally.

Re: Turn Based Mecha RPG Relayer Blasts to PS5, PS4 in 2021

Kingdom_Hearts95

It’s certainly very different gameplay wise, but I have been itching for a JRPG setting similar to Star Ocean. I know this is very, very different from Star Ocean, but just having a futuristic space setting and being a Japanese game puts this on my radar. For now, maybe this will scratch that itch for an anime sci-fi space setting I’ve been hoping to see more of in games.
