Re: Horizon Forbidden West PS5 Gameplay Reveal This Thursday in New State of Play Livestream

Kingdom_Hearts95

Horizon Zero Dawn was probably my favorite Sony first party exclusive from the PS4’s library, so Horizon Forbidden West is definitely one of my most anticipated games for PS5. I think this State of Play will probably be a short but sweet taste of Horizon Forbidden West, and I’m personally not expecting any major surprises or announcements other than any related to Horizon Forbidden West. But you never know; crazier things have happened.

Re: Star Ocean Dev tri-Ace Seems to Be Hiring for PS5 RPG Project

Kingdom_Hearts95

If this turns out to be true, I would personally hope for a new Star Ocean game. I love all the Star Ocean games. Even if some are better than others, I feel like all of them are pretty good. Although Integrity and Faithlessness is easily the worst out of them in my opinion, it still had a lot that I personally enjoyed.

I’m also super hopeful that Square Enix will at least release an HD remastered port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution, like they did for Star Ocean: First Departure in 2019. Even if that’s all we get, I’ll be super happy since I love the Star Ocean games.

Re: Square Enix Joins E3 2021 This Summer

Kingdom_Hearts95

@Nem I actually wasn’t referring to a brand new Star Ocean game. I remember hearing that Tri-Ace was bought by a different company years ago, but some time after hearing that I believe they came out with Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness (which was developed by Tri-Ace and published by Square Enix). I also know that Square Enix released a few ports of older Star Ocean games after that. They released Star Ocean: Till the End of Time as a slightly updated PS2 port on PS4. Square Enix also released Star Ocean: The Last Hope on both PS4 and Steam later on. They also had their mobile game going for a couple years, Star Ocean: Anamnesis, which (correct me if I’m wrong) was developed by Tri Ace and published by Square Enix on mobile platforms. While that mobile title is no longer available in the west, the most recent release in the series was on Square Enix’s part. At the end of 2019, they released Star Ocean: First Departure R on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. We haven’t heard any new announcements since, but the Star Ocean Facebook and Twitter accounts are still up and running here is the US. So while I did hear about Tri Ace being bought up years ago, I’m a little confused why they developed Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, and Star Ocean: Anamnesis after that news came out. Was there more recent news of Tri Ace being bought up that I just didn’t hear about? Do you have any links to articles that officially confirmed this news? I heard that same news quite a few years ago, but I’m pretty sure Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness and Star Ocean: Anamnesis were developed by Tri Ace despite that news. Plus, Square Enix released about three different Star Ocean ports in the last few years as well. I’m not meaning to argue or anything. I’m just a little confused considering Tri Ace has released a couple new Star Ocean projects in the last few years, and Square Enix (who I believe actually owns the Star Ocean IP; correct me if I’m wrong on that) has released three additional different Star Ocean ports in the last few years as well. I do think it’s possible that Star Ocean might be done. After all, we haven’t heard anything since the release of Star Ocean: First Departure R on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. However, I also think it’s still entirely possible that Square Enix could release a port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution in the same vein as Star Ocean First Departure R from 2019. I think either of those situations are equally possible still.

*Edit:

I just did a little more research on the subject. Most of what I was able to find were just in forums, but Tri Ace is indeed no longer owned by Square Enix. That being said, it is true that they have still collaborated with Square Enix on a few occasions after Tri Ace was bought by a mobile company (such as with Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, the port of Star Ocean: The Last Hope, and the mobile game, Star Ocean: Anamnesis.) The port of First Departure that I mentioned was more on Square Enix’s part. So, I still feel like a port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution is entirely possible, just not guaranteed. I am aware that Japan already has Second Evolution on PS4, but that’s a straight up port of the PSP version (with no new additions except for trophies.) So, basically I think a brand new Star Oceam game is extremely unlikely. I do, however, think that a new port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution is still possible if Square Enix is willing to do it. I do feel like Square Enix has been doing a lot of ports of older, just as obscure games as Star Ocean lately (such as the SaGa games), so I don’t think a port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution with new artwork and trophies is out of the question either. It’s certainly not guaranteed, but it’s really just a matter of waiting and seeing at this point, I feel like. I’m still hopeful that they’ll do it, though. I feel like a port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution would make around the same amount of profit for Square Enix as SaGa Frontier Remastered (which Square Enix released recently.) But it’s just a complicated situation, so I feel like we might get a port of Second Evolution in the west, but we also might not, as sad as that is for me.

Re: Square Enix Joins E3 2021 This Summer

Kingdom_Hearts95

I’m excited to see what Square Enix has to announce! Personally, I’m hoping for more info on Final Fantasy XVI. It would also be great to see a smaller reveal, like a remastered port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution — especially considering that July apparently marks the 25th anniversary of the Star Ocean series. Final Fantasy XVI and Star Ocean could be announced at completely different times, though. Maybe we’ll even get an update on the next Kingdom Hearts? I know it’s unlikely we’ll hear all those announcements at the same time, but you never know.

Re: Mystery Square Enix IP Getting Multiple Remakes

Kingdom_Hearts95

I would love to see Star Ocean get some more attention! But I doubt that’s what this developer is going to do. Kingdom Hearts remakes would be great too, but only if they’re handled right. I loved Kingdom Hearts III so much (both story and gameplay wise), and it’s graphics were absolutely beautiful. However, playing the other Kingdom Hearts games is, in my opinion, pretty important if you plan on understanding most of what’s going on. And the first Kingdom Hearts, while as amazing as ever, does feel kind of clunky in its camera controls compared to others. Even Kingdom Hearts II feels a bit dated nowadays.

If it’s not either of those two, I really hope it’s either Final Fantasy or an underutilized IP that needs more attention. Although many people hope its Dragon Quest, as I see in the comments, I personally hope it is not that. I feel like there are other properties that need more attention, and personally I’ve always found the Dragon Quest games to be a little dull. That’s just me, though. No offense to those who love Dragon Quest — if you love those games then that is perfectly fine. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Expect from This Week's State of Play?

Kingdom_Hearts95

My completely realistic expectations for the 10 announcements:

1. Yoko Taro makes an appearance and announces that he’s taking over as the new director of the Kingdom Hearts series going in to phase 2.

2. God of War Ragnarok won’t actually be called God of War Ragnarok, but it will release next month.

3. Both Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal get delayed indefinitely. No new release dates in sight.

4. There will be more PS5s available in stores in 2023, but they will all be bundled with Bugsnax instead of Astro’s Playroom.

5. PSVR2 is canceled, despite being announced yesterday.

6. Microsoft is purchasing SEGA, Square Enix, and Capcom in another huge acquisition, but this time all of those companies’ games will be exclusive to Xbox and PC right away, so effectively Sony will have a lot less to offer in terms of Japanese games.

7. Deltarune Part 2 is announced by Toby Fox himself, aiming for a release date in 2029.

8. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is coming to PS5 as a timed exclusive this year, leaving Nintendo and everyone else to wonder where the heck all these “official” announcements are coming from.

9. Square Enix announces that Star Ocean is making a comeback (on Xbox, Switch, and Google Stadia), but in the form of a battle royale game for up to 97 players at a time. (Oh, and that they’re never going to port Star Ocean: The Second Story or Star Ocean: Second Evolution to anything because it would require resources that they don’t have.)

10. Finally, at the very end of the State of Play, it is revealed that Disney is buying Sony, and that all of these exciting announcements will probably get canceled anyways because none of them matter to or will make enough money for Disney. But they hope you enjoyed the State of Play anyways and look forward to what they have to share in the future.

Re: Feature: 12 PS5, PS4 Predictions for 2021

Kingdom_Hearts95

@Nepp67

I agree with you. I hope they don’t try to keep milking the franchise, as you said. Uncharted 4 really was an amazing send off for Nathan Drake. I guess if we did get a new Uncharted game, my hope is that it would focus on a different character like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy did, and that it would be handled well. Hopefully they won’t ruin future games just to make a quick cash grab.

Re: Feature: 12 PS5, PS4 Predictions for 2021

Kingdom_Hearts95

I think a new Spyro is likely, and I would be absolutely thrilled to see it! I also think it’s likely that Final Fantasy XVI will get delayed, but I personally feel like Square Enix has gotten a little better about the wait times in between announcements and release dates. It might still get announced for next year and then get delayed, but I would much rather have that than another situation like Kingdom Hearts III where it’s a 6 year wait after the announcement. I personally love Kingdom Hearts III, and in my opinion it delivered extremely well, but it took a long time to come out. I personally don’t think it will be that long of a wait for Final Fantasy XVI, and I do think it will end up being a very good entry in the Final Fantasy franchise.

I think a new Uncharted game is likely, but not guaranteed. I would hope that whichever developer handles a supposed new Uncharted game would take its time with it and refrain from rushing it. Hopefully, if we see a new Uncharted game, whichever developer working on it does it the absolute best they can without rushing it. I love all the Uncharted games made by Naughty Dog, but I’m not too sure it would be Naughty Dog handling a new one or not.

I also personally hope to see a PS5 enhanced version of Dreams. I think it would be wise of Media Molecule to take advantage of that, and maybe add some new features, in order to ensure the service stays around and relevant.

The only other thing I can think of that would really excite me would actually just be a port of Star Ocean: Second Evolution on PS4. We got Star Ocean: First Departure at the very end of 2019, and we have ports of all the other Star Ocean games on PS4 (except Blue Sphere, but I don’t think that’s going to happen), so I’m hopeful that Square Enix will announce it sometime next year. In my opinion, the Star Ocean games deserve a little more representation from Square Enix, as it’s a rather unique property of theirs.

We’ll have to wait and see, of course, but overall it’s looking like another exciting year of games announcements already.

Re: PS5 Launch Window Has the 'Best Line-Up We've Ever Seen in the History of PlayStation'

Kingdom_Hearts95

So . . . The Legend of Dragoon remastered?

Or . . . Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory?

Or . . . Final Fantasy VII: Remake Part 2?!

LOL, I'm just kidding. I'm sure whatever surprises they have for the launch window will be great! Still, seeing any of what I listed would make me very excited indeed. Nevertheless, there's already several games they've announced that make me want to buy a PS5 — regardless of whether they're launch window games or not. (namely Horizon II, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7). All in all I'm very excited (and eager) for more news!

Re: Crash Bandicoot 4 Will Be Officially Revealed Tomorrow

Kingdom_Hearts95

I’m super excited! Toys For Bob did such an excellent job with Spyro Reignited Trilogy, so even if this new Crash Bandicoot isn’t quite as good as the original three games, I’m sure it will still be an excellent game in of itself! I do hope they make a new Spyro game in the future as well, preferably set after the original three Insomniac games (the ones they remastered in Reignited Trilogy). For now, though, I’m very excited to see this new Crash Bandicoot! I’ll try to keep an open mind when I see the reveal too, since this isn’t Naughty Dog developing it. It might have some differences or it’s own creative spin on it, and I’m okay with that as long as the game turns out to be fun and entertaining. Overall this is exciting news to me! Here’s hoping they can keep making Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games that are fun, entertaining, and well designed! I believe they can!

Re: Talking Point: What PS5 Games Do You Expect at Sony's Future of Gaming Reveal Event?

Kingdom_Hearts95

I would still love to see a remaster of The Legend of Dragoon. I know it’s a PS1 title that Sony seems to have long forgotten, but even just a remaster of the game would be exciting to me. Other than that, definitely Horizon Zero Dawn 2. Horizon Zero Dawn was probably my favorite Sony First Party Exclusive of this generation and seeing a sequel announced would be amazing. Gran Turismo 7 would also be nice. Another wishful part of me wants to see something teased from Square Enix, especially if it was Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy related, but I know that’s really wishful thinking considering we just got Final Fantasy VII Remake (which was incredible in my opinion).
