Re: Poll: Are You Playing Assassin's Creed Shadows?

Johnnycide

@ShogunRok there’s definitely a market for it, and it’s more a personal taste thing. I just find that Ubisoft games put me off due to the overly busy map and the onslaught of ads for mtx and dlc as soon as you boot the game up. If anything I’ve been playing more stuff like Balatro and Returnal lately, just because I can start the game and be doing something fun within 20 seconds.

***deep breath*** HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Good god how badly must this garbage have failed in order for this to happen. It’s like putting heads on stakes to deter others. Get proper writers in and patronise your audience at your own peril.

Turtles is pretty great tho, not bothered about sonic.

PAC man just isn’t for me, I’m glad it exists and it seems well made but not my thing at all. Jedi Survivor I bought in the last sale and haven’t played yet (my stepson is really into it though!) and as for Topspin? Two words and the second one is “off”. I do not play those sorts of games. So not a great month personally but I can see why some are happy about it.

Really tho, tennis? Who cares?

@Hyena_socks funnily enough what I was referring to wasn’t a female protagonist, or her race. I’m all for diversity. BG3, TLOU2, Horizon (great game even if I wasn’t too fussed on the gameplay, I’m more into soulslikes), Uncharted Lost Legacy, Alien Isolation…. I mean I could go on. Many of my favourite game series and games have a great deal of diversity in them, and I love them because they’re well done and well written.

I watched a couple of trailers for this game and it came off as mean spirited and lazy. The writing for the main character seemed smug and arrogant, and when you do that (Hi Forspoken!) in a way that alienates a lot of potential players, it’ll mean you fail.

What I meant was that writers and developers need to up their game with writing and design, instead of just aping what they think will work and then screaming misogyny when nobody buys it.

@Shepherd_Tallon I get what you mean, but my thinking is as follows:

I love coffee.
I occasionally enjoy a cup of tea.
I can make coffee whenever I like.
I can only make tea when there are other people making tea, and if I pay a subscription to the company which makes the kettle.
If I make a cup of tea, the kettle company tries to tell me that the tea looks a bit naff, and that I could have a nicer cup of tea if I pay another two quid.
The kettle company have had problems with their leads, so I can’t make tea for the next two days.

Sod it, I’m making coffee.

“ Going forward, we will continue to focus on developing live service titles along with the story-driven single-player titles that our players want.”

All you need is an “actually” after the word “our” in there and it’s perfect. Players want maybe two live services at the same time. We mostly don’t have time to play, say, seven of them concurrently without being left behind. It’s a terrible business model and it is not going to pay off.

Make fewer LS games which are actually worth the money, and funnel the cash into making blockbusters which people want. It’s not hard to grasp!

Re: Warren Spector's Multiplayer Stealth Game Thick As Thieves Sneaks onto PS5 in 2026

@nomither6 I miss the days where single player games would ship with a multiplayer mode. (Say, bioshock 2, that was a good one!) Some of them were really good fun. As far as live services, if they’re playable in single player then it’s not all bad. Destiny had a fun campaign and you could play alone without relying on other people, which was great.

Thing is, when you have something you pay for which is dependent on others it feels like you just don’t have any control over it, that’s not consumer friendly. Live service has its place, but if it’s done in the right way.

It would be interesting to see which one out of global citizen, best mobile game, best esports thing, and games for impact people care the least about. It’s a pretty close thing personally.
