Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Shawn Layden Lands New Job at Tencent

Hydra_Spectre

@sanderson72 That means there would be much more restrictions under Chinese rule.
Remember, Tencent wanted to partially fund Top Gun: Maverick and forced them to CGI away the Taiwan and Japan flags on Maverick's iconic jacket, but after realising that the film is very patriotic towards the US, they backed out and the film is no longer going to be shown in China.

Many sacrifices would have to be done in order to appease the Communist Chinese government, and it's not worth doing censorship to please a tyrannical government.

Re: Sony on Board with Subtitled, Japanese Language Ghost of Tsushima Movie

Hydra_Spectre

@Gravity_Bear Sony also made Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
That film had a really good English dub that actively tried to match the original Mandarin lip movements.
And that was a live action film that is much harder to dub than anime.
They even got most of the original cast back like Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh to do the English dub.

They can probably do the same thing for Ghost of Tsushima: The Movie, but they must get the original game cast for the English dub.

Re: First Impressions: SEGA's Multiplayer FPS Hyenas Is Baffling, But Maybe in a Good Way

Hydra_Spectre

It looks like SEGA thought this would be more worthy of being their Super Game instead of Sonic Frontiers, even though that game is supposed to define a new era for Sonic.
Also, they cancelled a new Shining Force game which would have taken place in the original Mega Drive/Game Gear/Saturn continuity and would follow up the story of Shining Force III. Then again, it would've also been a free-to-play mobile gacha.

Re: Sony on Board with Subtitled, Japanese Language Ghost of Tsushima Movie

Hydra_Spectre

I know Sony also released Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon many years ago.
The film was released in cinemas in Mandarin with English subtitles but the DVD release came with both the subbed version and an English dubbed version. There were two separate VHS releases too: a subbed VHS and a dubbed VHS.
All releases moving forward would have both original Mandarin and English dub audio tracks.

I usually prefer subs for live action content but it would be great if Sony can get the original game cast back to do the English dub for the Blu-ray release.

Re: Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 Seemingly Return to PS Store Soon

Hydra_Spectre

@Netret0120 It's still strange how we have Snake in Smash but his games are not officially available on Nintendo Switch.
Hopefully, they would work with Kojima Productions again on a Metal Gear 35th Anniversary Collection which will have all Kojima-directed Metal Gear games.

It would be two discs on Xbox and PS4, with Disc 1 having the MSX games and MGS1-4, while Disc 2 has Peace Walker and MGSV.
The Nintendo Switch version would have one 64GB cartridge containing everything before MGSV, filling up about 48GB of a 64GB card, while MGSV would be downloadable, with a standalone MGSV: The Definitive Experience release for people who want a physical copy and to go along with the Steam/PS4/Xbone release.

The 35th Anniversary Collection should also be released on both Steam and GOG, with each game being purchasable standalone and as a collection.

Re: SEGA Considering Movie Adaptations of Persona Games

Hydra_Spectre

Japanese drama adaptations of the Persona games would be great for Paramount+.
They would provide Paramount some good international content and it would be a good way for the shows to have high production values.

Persona could probably be Paramount+’s answer to Squid Game (Netflix’s big Asian drama hit) and Snowdrop (Disney+’s big Asian drama hit).

I mention Paramount specifically since the Sonic movies were Paramount. And the Knuckles the Echidna show will be streaming on Paramount+.

Re: Final Fantasy 16's English Cast Will Speak with British English Accents, Not American

Hydra_Spectre

The script was written in Japanese and had the motion capture performed in British English.
The director's intended version is probably to play the game with Japanese text and English audio. With cutscenes in British English with Japanese subtitles.

It reminds me of how the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was written in English but filmed in Mandarin Chinese. The director's intention for the film is for it to be watched in Mandarin with English subtitles.

Re: Sonic Frontiers Director Defines 'Open Zone', Will Take Between 20-30 Hours to Beat

Hydra_Spectre

All these newly-invented genres basically gives me the same vibes as Kojima calling Death Stranding the first strand-type game. Or him calling Metal Gear Solid a Tactical Espionage Action game (until Peace Walker, where Tactical Espionage Operations started getting used).
Or the various genres of the Science Adventure being Delusional Science Adventure (Chaos;Head), Hypothetical Science Adventure (Steins;Gate), and Augmented Science Adventure (Robotics;Notes).

A local show in my country also invents some new forms of mechanics for their talent searches and even calls their drag race/dance show/beauty pageant the first "dance pageant", and it also gives me Death Stranding vibes.

I would honestly love to see what a Sonic game made by Hideo Kojima would look like.

Re: Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Is There a Post Credits Scene?

Hydra_Spectre

@RogerRoger Having long payoffs are either a blessing (for both Sonic and Marvel) or a curse (for Star Wars).

Star Wars had it as a curse because people's expectations were sky-high for Episode VIII that subverting said expectations in a controversial way would clearly be sour for many fans. And The Rise of Skywalker was such a haphazardly-made finale that it ended Star Wars with a whimper, and not the bang it deserved.

I am predicting Sonic 3 will have great payoffs, though.
We also have a Knuckles the Echidna show being made for next year.
And with Marvel, they can still make great content but having multiple shows and movies at the same time is just getting a bit too overwhelming now.
I really wish Sonic can find the perfect balance of being intricately plotted with numerous instalments but not to the point of overflooding the market like what Star Wars did and what Marvel is probably going to do.

Re: Sonic Origins Rating in Korea Suggests Retro Collection Coming Soon

Hydra_Spectre

@Keyblade-Dan There are some rumours that this collection will be on a different engine but I am desperately hoping for Retro Engine remasters.
If they would not be made by Christian Whitehead himself, then I really hope these remasters will be supervised by him and still made on his engine.

I also wish the physical release would have a classic Mega Drive/Genesis-style reversible cover similar to Sonic Mania Plus.

I have Sonic 1, 2 and CD on iPhone and I also have Sonic 3 A.I.R..
I got Sonic Mania for free on Epic Games Store and I really want to import a Japanese Nintendo Switch copy of Sonic Mania Plus, even if I don't have a Nintendo Switch.

When they have reversible covers, I will buy three copies each of Mania and Origins: Japanese Nintendo Switch, European PS4 and American Xbox versions.
This would make it so I own one regional version of each game while owning them on multiple platforms in case I get these consoles eventually.

Re: Sony Pictures Declares Uncharted a 'New Hit Movie Franchise'

Hydra_Spectre

@FatWormBlowsASparky I actually wouldn't mind the film if they hadn't whitewashed all of the actors.

As for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, I can see that it has been growing in having a cult classic status similar to other teen-oriented fantasy/sci-fi/action animated films that came out around the time like Titan A.E., Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.
These five films are some of my favourite animated films of all time and they all share many similarities.
Treasure Planet and Atlantis are some of my favourite Disney films of all time and I am glad that they are reaching cult classic status, especially Treasure Planet, which is up there with Lilo & Stitch, Tangled and Encanto as one of Disney's best new millennium films.
But The Spirits Within is still not as beloved as Treasure Planet even though its reception is much better nowadays than it was in 2001. I really wish more people would give it a second chance.
I think Square shouldn't have called the film Final Fantasy. I think the title Gaia: The Spirits Within would've worked much better, and they could just have "From the creators of Final Fantasy" in all the advertising.

And besides, despite the uncanny valley issues in that film, it's still not as terrible as Mars Needs Moms or Cats 2019, and Cats 2019 somehow became a cult classic faster than The Spirits Within.

Re: Sony Pictures Declares Uncharted a 'New Hit Movie Franchise'

Hydra_Spectre

@UltimateOtaku91 Are we going to ignore the following?:

  • Animal Crossing (Japan-only but still good)
  • Detective Pikachu
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
  • Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie
  • Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
  • Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
  • Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV
  • Resident Evil: Degeneration
  • Resident Evil: Damnation
  • Resident Evil: Vendetta
  • Metal Gear Solid: Bande Dessinée
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Bande Dessinée

@AdamNovice Toho (the studio behind Godzilla, Your Name., Weathering With You, and My Hero Academia; as well as the studio that helped with Detective Pikachu, Sonic the Movie, the terrible Monster Hunter movie, and the upcoming Mario movie) missed an opportunity to work with Nintendo and other video game companies on a Super Smash Bros. Cinematic Universe.

I would love a Famicom Detective Club anime movie with a similar art style to Makoto Shinkai's anime films, or a Zelda anime movie by Studio Ghibli.

As for primarily PlayStation franchises represented by this Smash universe, the Metal Gear Solid movie would be a great fit as well as an anime Persona subseries in this Super Smash Bros. Cinematic Universe, either as a reboot or crossing over the pre-existing Persona anime adaptations with this Smash universe.

Re: All PlayStation Studios Games on PC

Hydra_Spectre

Final Fantasy VII was originally made for PSone and published by Sony internationally but Eidos later made a PC port, which Square Enix released for modern consoles, including non-PlayStation consoles.

Final Fantasy IV, V, VI, VIII and X were also published by Sony in Europe on PSone and PS2 but Square Enix would later release these games on PC, with Eidos making an FF8 PC port and Virtuos making an FF10 port.

Re: PS5's New PSVR Headset Officially Named PlayStation VR2, Full Specs Revealed

Hydra_Spectre

Too bad it doesn't support HDMI input like the first PlayStation VR.
It allowed the PS VR to be used as a 3D HMD for other consoles that supported HDMI 3D like the PS3, Xbox 360 or even PC.

It was amazing playing Sonic Generations in VR, not the first-person one, mind you, just the vanilla game running with stereoscopic 3D being played in a VR headset.
Same goes for the PS3 versions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.
The Deus Ex prequel games also played really great in VR with this stereoscopic 3D method as well.

Re: Skyrim Anniversary Edition: All New Content, All Creation Club DLC Listed

Hydra_Spectre

I am still waiting for our lord and saviour Todd Howard to release Creation Engine remasters of Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas for last and next-gen consoles, Switch and PC.

Especially if they have Creation Club content outside of the Switch (since Skyrim Switch doesn't have Creation Club, nor does it get the Anniversary Edition content, it's basically the Legendary Edition but with some of the extra enhancements from the Special Edition and also exclusive Zelda crossover items).

It would especially be great so that Team PlayStation can finally play Morrowind. And that the Switch can get a Fallout game that isn't the Shelter spinoff.

Re: A Big PlayStation Remake Is to Be Announced This December, Says Irish Artist AVA

Hydra_Spectre

There is no way it's Xenoblade.
I really hope it's Xenogears since it has never been remastered for modern consoles and PC, even when Square Enix celebrated its 20th Anniversary. Same goes for Chrono Cross.

I would also really love a Xenosaga Trilogy HD Remastered collection that has all three PS2 games remastered, with dual audio and completely uncensored since both the US and Japanese releases of the Xenosaga games had censorship but it varied depending on the region (one scene may be censored in the US but not in Japan and vice versa).

And as a tie-in, I would also love an international release of the DS demake of Xenosaga I & II (which had many exclusive scenes that fleshed out the story and had some changes in plot from the PS2 version, but it has never been stated which version was canon) for mobile phones and Switch.
