Sony has apparently informed developers that it’ll be phasing out the PSN – or PlayStation Network – branding later this year, and the evidence has been staring us in the face all along.
When the PSN briefly went offline last night, we turned to the PSN Service Status page for more information, which we noticed has been quietly rebranded to the PlayStation Service Status page.
In fact, if you take a look at that page in particular, it doesn’t mention PSN at all. That’s not how we remember it!

We took a look at the Wayback Machine to find out when this change was initiated, and it turns out all PSN branding was removed late last year.
If you look at the page in October 2025, for example, it was titled PSN Service Status and clearly referred to the PlayStation Network at the top. That was all gone by December 2025.

So this change has been staring us blankly in the face for a while. We suspect the company will be notifying developers now so it doesn’t include the outdated language in any of their upcoming games.
Does this mean much? Not really, no. Judging by our traffic during the abovementioned outage, though, there are still plenty of people Googling the keywords ‘PSN Down’ when they can’t get online.
We can’t help but wonder how long this terminology will stick around, even if Sony chooses not to use it.
