Re: 'Imagine Being Such a Loser': We've Hit Rock Bottom with Website Dedicated to 'Failing' Games

DadJKP

This has all been a game of "face-tattoo syndrome" and escalation.

First, you have the readily available data that, yes, YouTubers and content creators have used to create their content and celebrate the demise or failure of certain games but also just produce their content/news.

Then, you have other content creators and gaming media folks condemning the use of the data (face-tattoo syndrome), as its being used in "bad faith" (aka not the way they approve it being used) and the escalation begins.

Finally you have the people who began all this creating this website (which yes, is pretty sad and pathetic in all honesty) as a pushback. Then the escalation just goes on and on.

TL:DR: The people creating this site are indeed sad but have every right to project the data and the gaming media is likewise sad by coming across as shills taking cover for the publishers whose data is being reported on. Everyone comes across as sad.

Glad to see so many people finally understand what a loon this guy is. I’m glad I figured it out in the mid-late 2000s when he said, and I’m paraphrasing a bit but not much, “the scariest thing to me is the possibility of me and my kids living near conservatives”. The idea that you can’t even fathom existing around others whose ideas are different showed me how thick he was.

Re: Launch-Aligned, Ghost of Yotei PS5 Is Selling Better Than Tsushima

DadJKP

If people enjoyed it, I’m happy for them. It had a modest budget compared to other 1st party so all it had to do was be was decently successful to make a profit. I think both “sides” of this are sad quite frankly.

The loud internet voices side ended up being, at best, mostly wrong about this game’s “failure”. Also the side of “the chuds were wrong” got a “win” for once and the laughter and gloating just comes across as sad.

The world is not the internet, a lot of people own PS5s, they saw a “cool looking samurai game” and bought it. Very few people bought it to “own the chuds” and very few people didn’t buy it “out of protest”. Most people just either bought it or didn’t because they’re normal people making normal decisions.

Personally, I don’t want to support the lead actress so that’s why I didn’t purchase but that’s just me . I also think continuing Jin’s story would have had more success and it was money left on the table but that’s just speculation on my part.

Re: Naughty Dog Forces Crunch to Get PS5 Exclusive Intergalactic 'Back on Track' for Mid 2027 Release

I am of two minds here.

First, real art requires hard work and sacrifice. It’s always a personal question of how much of a toll you want to pay. Employees should be treated fairly of course but also real art requires more than standard expectations. However, MANDATORY crunch? That’s shaky ground.

Second, is this going to be another example of Western Sony developers letting the brand down? And if so, when will the Japan side decide enough is enough?

Re: Ghost of Yotei PS5 Sales Surpass 3.3 Million Units, Crush Boycott Nonsense

DadJKP

@The_Wailing_Doom No, and whoever is telling you this is selling you a bill of goods. Some people are justifiably upset that SP threw Jin in the trash for a typical “strong female protagonist”, but this was not the root of the boycott. I was personally planning on buying the game because I loved Tsushima and I love SP.

99.9% of the boycotts were focused on the dev team member who trivialized political assassinations and, even though SP let them go, several other dev members liked and boosted the post but kept their jobs. But, because that’s a harder boycott to morally make fun of, people with agendas will tell you it’s because of all the “ists” who were scared to play as a female character.

Re: Ghost of Yotei Sales Fall Off In Japan, But PS5 Exclusive Still Sticks Around in Second Place

DadJKP

I’ve been a PS gamer since 1998 and I love the brand but it’s getting a little sad how much people are willing to fall on the sword for this game.

EDIT; Also inb4 “it’s sad so many grifters are trying to smear the game hurhur”

I’ll readily admit that as much as I adored GoT, I’m skipping Yotei. So it could be a banger that deserves all the credit. Simply based on what I do know and what I have seen though, I’m not sure what is here is worth the fierce defense a lot of Sony fans are giving it,

Re: Ghost of Yotei Is Sony's Biggest PS5 Launch Since Spider-Man 2 in Europe

DadJKP

@PuppetMaster No they're not. The game launched softly no matter how the data is actually spun, it has ZERO resonance right now outside of PS fanboys and it will be a footnote in a few years when people ask "What was the name of that Ghost of Tsushima sequel? Ghost of Yoplait or something?"

No actual real concrete sales numbers are out (which if there was something to brag about you know there would be bragging) and Sony has already started winding down online adverts for the game.

So no, sorry, no one is wailing or gnashing their teeth at being "owned" by this article.

Re: 'They Don't Know What They're Doing': Analyst Sticks the Boot in Sony's 'Clueless' Management

DadJKP

I know a lot of people here don't like Pachter and will defend Sony no matter what but hey, a blind squirrel CAN find an acorn every now and then.

Regardless of the source, nothing he is saying is incorrect. Current Sony cares less about innovation and good games and more about profits and positioning the right "message"

Put aside the source and put aside any fanboyism, and actually marinate on what he says. I've been a PS gamer since 1998 and nothing in these quotes rings false to me.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want from God of War Maker Sony Santa Monica Next?

DadJKP

Please, for love of everything, make an interesting and artistically unique game that focuses on story and fun over messaging and fidelity.

Astro Bot was a big hit for a reason. Because THAT is what PlayStation fans became fans of. The original God of War (2005) and Last of Us were great when they released because they were part of the PlayStation line-up that included so many other unique experiences. Now? Every game has to be 3rd person, high fidelity, probably open or semi-open world with some type of diverse protagonist and collectibles all over.

Dare to be different. Dare to be what PlayStation ACTUALLY is.

Re: Mass Xbox Layoffs Begin, Everwild and Perfect Dark Both Reportedly Cancelled

DadJKP

Several things can be true at once:

1. It is horrendous and gut-punching for people to lose a job and it has nothing to do with their behavior.

2. Yes, businesses/corporations care most about money. However it is also important to remember it is that same money that allows them to finance and attempt to create the games we play. Some publishers obviously do this better (and more morally) better than others but this is the way it works.

3. The proof of the pudding is in the tasting. Yes, gaming is more profitable than ever but is that for EVERY game? No, of course not. Several games flop and for a variety of reasons. It has to do with talent and the way that talent is managed as well. I’m not trying to shill for anyone but I do wonder why most of this only seems to happen in Western developers and publishers? Hmmm.

Re: Bungie Delays Marathon Indefinitely, No New PS5, PC Release Date Given

DadJKP

@SeaDaVie

Monetarily, sure. Playstation is killing it. But, if we’re honest brokers here, we have to admit Playstation is succeeding IN SPITE of itself, not because of itself. There are many possibly reasons to this, such as Xbox falling as a competitor, but either way it’s the reality.

At some point, bad decisions are bad decisions and will tip the scale. The seeds planted right now have to eventually bloom and when they do, Playstation will have to answer for them.

We are currently in a generation where Microsoft has outpaced Sony in significant game releases on PlayStation. PlayStation fans can see this as a victory, that we get the milk without marrying the cow so to speak, but I personally see it as sad and unsustainable.
