Uncharted Cannon 2

Uncharted fans have dug up a six-week-old Instagram post from a Naughty Dog developer, and are now contemplating whether it's subtly teasing a new game in the series.

Back in February, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy director Shaun Escayg made a seemingly innocent post about doing a bit of "research". The image in question features a cannon atop a kind of fort or castle, pointing out to sea.

While there aren't any direct links to the Uncharted franchise in the picture, it's the sort of setting and tone you'd typically get from one of its games. Thus, the conspiracy theory it's a small hint at what's to come has been born — the fans have already apparently tracked the location down to Fort George in Trinidad & Tobago.

So, can this Instagram post actually be taken as a piece of evidence towards a new Uncharted game? Almost certainly not.

While it is believed Naughty Dog has a secret second project in the works, it'll arrive after Intergalactic, which it in itself isn't expected until 2027. Given the other game isn't announced, we doubt a lead developer at the studio would casually tease the title over social media.

Naughty Dog ended the series in a relatively good place in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, though did leave the door open for a follow-up through Nate and Elena's daughter, Cassie. There have also been long-standing wishes of a title with Sully as the protagonist, so should the developer return to the franchise, there are a few different ways they could take another entry.
