@andreoni79 your situation is what Microsofts entire strategy has been built around they aren't in it to win the console wars they just want to win back some of the users they lost with the poor Xbox one launch...
@God_of_Nowt still more and more it seems Microsoft has the better plan (and user friendly) when it comes to external storage and the only one that was ready day 1.
Ps5 feels like a console taken out of the oven a few months too early.
@AdamNovice well 1 it's not about PLAYING games from external but storing them for move back later (which they said you would be able to do) and the expansion thing they ALSO said would have to wait for launch but that they would have options available at that time (again now its "sometime" later).
Just more example of Sonys strategy of not speaking on things as more proof they just weren't ready.
@graysoncharles which you ALSO cannot do even after launch (and who knows for how long til you can) not to mention the cost of these drives is just as expensive as what Microsoft is already selling (and which is hot swappable).
Again I have to give it to Microsoft were now seeing their plans are much more fully realized and realistic and it's paying dividends.
@zimbogamer yes for myself I've seen it since early on amd have proclaimed it "since day 1" that the Playstation will have its exclusives amd that's enough for many but overall the Xbox is the better setup and more powerful console amd now its just starting to come out that I was spot on to begin with.
@vapidwolf in theory and on paper but there's much more to speed than just the numbers on paper.
We will have to see but I suspect the "balance" may be leaning towards the Xbox setup and it comes out in games just being ABLE to load faster on Xbox due to things beyond the speed of the ssd.
@nessisonett I expect Sonys first party titles will really show off the fast loading but I'm not so sure if the 3rd party cross platforms will only time will tell but if Microsoft not only has the more powerful console from a graphics standpoint they also end up with the faster loading console (when Sony put so much into their "faster" ssd tech) it's really going to say a number of things about how smart console design decisions matter.
@KippDynamite only with games we've seen so far and ones that are likley made to make that inital load as fast as possible to show it off.
Not only that but none of this negates the fact that the exact state of the game is saved on Xbox while Playstation will have to load your most recent save and in certain situations that could massively detrimental.
@Nepp67 you're truly sounding like the salty loser here... Anyone with an objective point of view and a checklist of pros/cons can see that micorosft really has more positives in its columns Sony has 2 things exclusives and a next gen controller every other category goes to Xbox.
I agree both of those are incredibly important but it doesn't change the fact that everything else is a win for Xbox.
I'm not going to run down the enitre list but if all the features discussed up to this point either xbox has them and Sony don't or Sony does them worse.
Any rational person can clearly see this.
Sony is relying on their games to keep people happy but I know many many ps4 owners never bought an exclusive (only 14.8% of ps4 owners even bought the highest selling Sony exclusive of the generation).
So for many it may not matter that Sony has the games if all they care about is the best place to play their 3rd party title of choice.
@__jamiie yep at this point the controller is the strongest selling point the Playstation has for me and I'm really glad they did it but I have to pray support from third parties sticks around without it then it's nothing more than the rumble triggers the few xbox games have supported for 7 years now.
@AdamNovice xbox is a console setup to properly be a powerhouse and fully supported console for the next generation. Not just a couple quickly thrown together tech demos stretched out or a way to play upscale dlc sold to you while making you buy the game again. Oh and demon souls is just ANOTHER Sony remaster like their enitre last generation.
The fact that the strongest game they have is their tech demo really shows they were betting on gimmicks more than delivering a proper system built for the next 5-7 years.
@SAR97 the fact that you make up all those excuses as to why it don't matter but then point out how you're sure it will get added later definitely points to you just defending Sony. Many people have legitimate reasons to want / need it and your excuses are flimsy at best or just fkatout wrong.
I'm sure switching users won't break it and I'm sure a person with an Xbox series will confirm it soon enough.
@BansheeNorn I'm buying both (both are are on their way to me now and my extra dual sense is laying in a box across the room right now.
Doesn't change the fact that Sony is positively showing how not ready they were for this launch. So many things are "hope they add it later" or "they say it'll be ready later" or "should be fixed later"
It's kinda sad that Sony was supposed t launch before xbox originally last year and yet they are still so far behind.
They got some better games and a new fancy (and maybe gimmicky) controller.
But other than that Microsoft is the one doing EVERYTHING else right!
@Total_Weirdo that the thing so much of the Playstation feels like it was half baked and the excuse to fix it later is a lazy one and shows Microsoft really is bringing the proper hardware/software mix while Sony is feeling behind.
@Repo_Dog you can buy any game you want to keep at a discount (and smart start and what I do is wait til it's been out a while and on sale to buy with your discount)
Combined those discounts more than make up for the cost and you still end up owning the games you want.
I've been doing similar buying on pc for years but now I don't have to wait til their old and discounted can play brand new day 1 and then buy them at a discount later and if and when service goes away I stop paying for it or the game is removed I still own the titles I really care about and paid a lot less for them if I had bought day 1
@Alpine021 smart choice and a great value I had a b6 but upgraded to a c9 last year and I don't think any TV on the market can touch the features and image quality of lg oled.
And now with next gen gaming it's showing it superiority again!
@IonMagus and it's why I avoided even considering them. I made the right call when I went lg c9 oled last year as it's the ONLY tv that's actually FULLY hdmi 2.1 compliant.
@zupertramp unfortunately adding 120 input processing is ha hardware level change and not something that can be added via firmware it has to there from day 1. Many TV's will have 120hz panels but only 60hz inputs it's been that way for years and only on the last year or 2 have actual 120hz inputs been possible (at 4k) its been possible for a little longer on some at 1080/1440p.
@Woogy problem is the cable isn't certified it's just a "high speed hdmi" cable you can see so in the video I linked above.
Anyone who wants to just believe Sony did the right thing is in for some disappointment if they are relying on the cable to perfectly capable of all the features the console supports.
Ive been testing for weeks now over a dozen cables from Amazon with my LG oled and a 3090 and I've weeded through all the bs branding and found a couple that actually do what they say they will do.
I've got backups so I'm not worried but I am worried for all of you relying on this cable included he smart and get a backup.
@Digit2021 eh I knew better and knew a proper and fully implemented hdmi 2.1 solution was the only way to go and it's why my TV is now the absolute best equipped for all the next gen gaming (lg oled) heck even their nano cell lcd tvs are better equipped than most others.
@2cents care to explain my post above? I'm no fanboy my ps5 will ship next week and I have a dual sense in hand today but there is absolutely concern that their cable will fail some of us trying to push actual hdmi 2.1 features.
It's absolutely not certified for it. See my post and links above.
@Sensechat actually no and they even don't have what the proper name would be aka "ultra high speed hdmi" see my post above the included cable is just a standard hdmi 2.0b certified cable.
@Medic_Alert read my post above it may in fact not actually work as the cable isn't a certified "ultra high speed hdmi" aka hdmi 2.1 (48gbps) cable it is in fact a "high speed hdmi" or hdmi 2.0b (18gbps) cable
@MS7000 don't worry that was likely just referring to the panel refresh rate and your TV even if it were one of the other ones of the same model would still only have a 120hz panel not that it is actually capable of taking in a 120 signal.
Many tvs for years have had 120hz panel but only really new and upper end tvs of the last year or 2 have had the ability to actually receive an 120hz signal.
Everything before even with 120hz panels would just accept 60hz at max and the game would lnt be able to display more than that.
The guy who does the white glove unboxing videos showed the cable up close and the actual branding printed on the cable stated "high speed hdmi" which is the nomenclature used to describe a hdmi 2.0b cable (or 18gbps) a hdmi 2.1 cable would be branded "ultra high speed hdmi" (or 48gbps).
I'm sorry but unless there is. A change between what he unboxed and what we get it won't be a hdmi 2.1 certified cable.
It MAY work for some but for many there will be issues.
Im currently going through a dozen or so cables ordered from Amazon testing them with my LG OLED (that supports hdmi 2.1 along with my 3090) and it absolutely matters that the cable is properly certified.
Lesser cables may work but will likely cause issue for many.
Here's a link for the proof check at 6:11-6:13 for the hdmi cable and pause at 6:12 to see the actual printed on label which clear stages "high speed hdmi "
@Artois and people like you will deny legitimate complaints to protect your fragile ego which is intrinsically tied to a brand they have arent even getting paid to defend. You do it because you don't want to admit your choice could be inferior. It's a sign of weakness. Just because more have something doesn't mean the other significant portion of the world should be ignored its not a less than 0.1% who want to play via rf adapter on a black and white TV or something. It's a huge market and one that's is very much tied to the video gaming.
They deserve to be represented and the Xbox been doing it for years no problem.
Your decision to act like it don't matter is one of selfish needs to not have to accept or as being an inferior implementation vs the Xbox...
@Porco they should be going 144p/120 be for ever aiming for 4k/60 but tjr Console players have yet to truly understand the benefit of high frame rate.
This generation will be the one where their next TV purchase more than likley will finally support it.
Once they start to experience it in some ways they'll definitely start asking for more.
Thing is Sony most likley stuck in their ways I suspect xbox to adapt much better to changing opinions of new hdmi 2.1 tv owners over th next 6 or so years.
Console players are slow to adopt and Sony is the slowest but it will happen 120 hz will become a major focus (especially for competitive games) and getting there at 1440 vs 4k/60 is the fastest and best way to do so with the hardware limitations these consoles will deal with.
@graysoncharles do it man check greentoe.com or check slickdeals for discussions on where to get the best pricing I bought my 65 c9 last year 5 months after release for 1799 when it was still gooi g for over 3200 in best buy.
Been the greatest single piece of tech I ever purchased (especially combined with a 3080)
Im literally blown away how amazing it looks and how I can't even care to think about things like stutter or tearing or blurry motion.
It's just amazing and I think of you shop around you could get one for pretty good amount under the 2k you expect to pay.
@GamingVeteran the "latest outrage from fans" is just another way of saying you hate that people are complaining about legitimate concerns you want to ignore.
The console unlike in the PS4 vs xbox one launch is definitely in the "lesser" postiton in any number of ways and the issues are issues and once that will be referenced back to when comparing the launches way down the line wondering how we got where we did.
Just cause you don't care doesn't mean Sony shouldn't.
@thefourfoldroot I don't like to brag but Ive rarely had to admit I was wrong when making these predictions (though when I was was I happily did so) if I'm wrong I'll be happy to do it again but I have a strong feeling I won't need to.
No way to know either way tip it happens but I suspect some titles to come to other platforms at some point but the biggest ones the ones that have a chance to push people to jump on board will stay that way. It doesn't help them to give in to these people who literally say they have no reason to join the ecosystem by giving them the one thing that MIGHT make them do so. . The ones who won't well they seen really worth the loss of all those that would so stick to your guns like Netflix and dont blink I say.
That's how you succeed.
And you still get to to be the company will g to let anyone play your games anywhere that is willing to work with you. It eventually got netlfix on every platform out there even the ones that directly competed with them.
I know it may be hard to swallow if your one of those that aren't willing to budge but it would be ignorant to their long term goals to give in.
@Mikey856 they keep you in the intro screens and warnings for longer That in a lot of games anytime saved starts to add up and yes I absolutely am someone who edits my pc games to remove those splash screens anytime I can it extremely nice to not waste that time over and over and over again.
@Gravity_Bear "I am wondering, if I buy Miles Morales on PS5, do I get a PS4 version, like cross buy or is it just one version. And if I upgrade from PS4 to PS5 does the PS4 version stay intact. One can hope I guess."
These kind of questions is why I really prefer Microsofts approach to the" generations "and with Sony basically walking back all their talk about defined lines between generations (with multiple big AAA Ps5 only games now conformed for ps4 too) their policy and way of handling these things leaves A LOT to be desired.
With Microsoft it was easy, basically it was now like pc gaming when you saw smart delivery you were getting a game that ran at its best on whatever hardware you put it on. With Sony honestly who even knows most of the time you'll need a diagram to figure it out.
@wiiware "the only things that suddenly make it important feature is because xbox has it and playstation didn't. If ps5 has this feature, people will move on and think the feature is unnecessary again."....
No what you're missing here is its because MS has shown and promoted it for months and Sony fans said of course we will have that too and the fact that it looks like maybe now they don't. And now because of that they are all talking it down line it matters nothing. If it mattered so little we wouldn't be talking about it and if you had it your side would be praising it. (like they praise a 4k ui that literally matters for null and only promotes using system resources and slowing things down)
This is a feature that's just there to improve your quality of life if you CHOOSE to use it otherwise it has no impact on you.
Yet Sony v famys clamor about a mandatory higher resource requiring ui and downplay something that's actually helpful.
@GREGORIAN his comments about fanbogism because if this site were to run a little "test and announce the opposite of something like this article indicates. The opinions of the majority of users would absolutely skew towards being all about the feature and how awesome it is to have.
His point is that many (not saying you personally) but many are more than likely letting their fanboy colors show by denying the benefits of the feature that if the article were complete opposite they'd be super pumped about.
Provable? No not really not unless this site grew a spine and did some actual some real investigative journalism... Lol
But he sees what anyone who doesn't have a clear bias sees. His glasses arent tinted like so many here.
@Juanalf exactly expect the 6 month to year update of ps5 to suddenly gain new abilities that seem so familiar to users of xbox (but also for Xbox users to get something very similar if the things ps5 has over it)
@Deadlyblack to the people here none of these "issues" are going to effect anything for them they are bought in 100% they could be really upset about it but even their own brains won't let em say it. These lots of small differences will likely mean very little to most fans but overtime and word of mouth the overall picture will be shaped by these type of "quirks".
I'll be getting mine and am not worried about it in the slightest as ill only be playing the couple of games each year Sony forces me to play on their console. I'll buy them on disc (as I have for the last 7 years with ps4) and play through them in the weekend or two it takes to finish. I'll then uninstall them and sell the disc on hopefully for the majority of what I paid for it. (I can usually get 45 to 55 within the first week to month).
I'll be using my PlayStation exclusively like this with it spending the majority of its life sitting and collecting dust but at least when the replacement comes out I can list it for sell as gently used like I did for my ps4 pro I sold 3 weeks ago for 275.00 USD.
I'm into Sonys exclusive games but nothing else about their organization impresses me in the slightest. I buy in but to the smallest amount possible to get what I want out of them.
@thefourfoldroot I think Phil's most recent interview makes its pretty clear the reason for the purchase waa not to sell games on competing platforms it was to make all gamers a "customer of their services" be that on an Xbox a pc or any other device that allows access to that service.
They haven't said no to Playstation or Nintendo but that's because it's up in the air as to whether those platforms will allow their services on their console.
They don't seem to have may interest in selling the games its about making their play to be the Netflix of gaming as strong as possible.
And we didn't see Netflix putting their shows or movies on hulu or Amazon when they were trying to get there.
@Mpquikster I love how when xbox is see as "as big as refrigerator" it's awful and a terrible design and then when it turns out it's significantly smaller and much more manageable then the oddly shaped and HUGE ps5 suddenly being big is is seen as "powerful" and not a failure of design one in which the goal is to have the most powerful and the quietest AND within as small a package as possible.
To me the size here and your immediate thoughts to a slim down version in a couple years points to it being a failure to innovate fully.

You're the one who needs to grow up.
Re: Will PS5 Support 1440p Screens? Fans Are Eager for Answers
Re: Will PS5 Support 1440p Screens? Fans Are Eager for Answers
Re: Will PS5 Support 1440p Screens? Fans Are Eager for Answers
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
@Mikey856 they keep you in the intro screens and warnings for longer That in a lot of games anytime saved starts to add up and yes I absolutely am someone who edits my pc games to remove those splash screens anytime I can it extremely nice to not waste that time over and over and over again.
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
@nessisonett you have "no idea"?
Do you see where you're at?
If Sony doesn't do it it's NEVER important (you know til they do then it's the best thing since sliced bread)
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
@rpg2000 more like those that have it will immediately notice when they switch to a system that doesn't have it.
It's such a good quality of life perk that no one should really be talking about it except in places it's not available.
If ps5 doesn't have it prepare for all the articles from the Xbox guys jumping over to try ps5 after 6 months or a year.
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
@Juanalf exactly expect the 6 month to year update of ps5 to suddenly gain new abilities that seem so familiar to users of xbox (but also for Xbox users to get something very similar if the things ps5 has over it)
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
@I_Like_It yep even from a cold boot you can still resume games on Xbox series x. Linus tech tips showed it off with doom.
Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
Re: PS5 Teardown Video Gets Up Close and Personal with the Console
@SirAngry no it's the console it's a freaking behemoth! And people were giving the Xbox crap for being so big.... Lmao
Re: PS5 Teardown Video Gets Up Close and Personal with the Console
@710King the point of the wait was to not allow you long to contemplate on it befote having to decide.
Re: PS5 Teardown Video Gets Up Close and Personal with the Console
@Mpquikster I love how when xbox is see as "as big as refrigerator" it's awful and a terrible design and then when it turns out it's significantly smaller and much more manageable then the oddly shaped and HUGE ps5 suddenly being big is is seen as "powerful" and not a failure of design one in which the goal is to have the most powerful and the quietest AND within as small a package as possible.
To me the size here and your immediate thoughts to a slim down version in a couple years points to it being a failure to innovate fully.
