Re: Japan Sales Charts: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PS5 Sales Slip 91% at Retail

CrackmanNL

I am sorry to say to all the aging gamers but there are generations that have no idea of the PSone and simply 0 affiliation with FF7 Rebirth.

People talking about exclusivity problems for Square, these people are really trying to say it would sell better on the Xbox in Japan?? On the contrary, the Sony money actually gives Square security.

And once again, FF7 Rebirth and FF16 were the top selling games for PS5 on launch. Strange rhetorics.

Re: Exclusivity Is the Achilles' Heel of Huge Blockbusters, Says Former PlayStation Exec

CrackmanNL

Ofc Layden says this he is the one that started the PC ports and lost Sony billions with the Gaikai initiative with the Cloud/play everywhere. The same strategy in which MS is failing miserably

@Godot They are addressing budgets cause going from 100 to 300 in budget in one gen (and Marvel funds 180 per leaks!) and the foundation of the game is already built and iterated on.. then we got Naughy Dogg acting suprised they have to support live-service long term after wasting what another 200 mill for a mode that should'v been included in 2 (or remaster). If I was the money guy like Totoki I would look at those California studios very suspiciously.

Re: Japan Sales Charts: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Tops, But Doesn't Even Come Close to Remake

CrackmanNL

@Sakai The irony is that they actually lost a lot of money with their multiplat titles (remember them complaining about their Western division) e.g. Deus Ex and Tomb Raider but mainly the expensive Marvel titles flopping during peak Avengers and GotG (movie) era.

The also wasted a lot of money on NFTs and Crypto, that's why the previous CEO got shafted.

Square's goal is to grow the brand recognition cause if we going to be honest they have lost touch with the younger gen. People need to understand the early 20/teens have 0 affiliation with FF7.
Nier Automata sold the same amount as the Remake

And regarding exclusivity: financially they are happy cause Sony funds the title (take the dev risk away) otherwise they wouldn't make these deals. The current CEO has said that they prefer investments like these in their studios.

Re: Japan Sales Charts: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Tops, But Doesn't Even Come Close to Remake

CrackmanNL

If you want to talk about doing numbers in Japan it's a mainline Dragon Quest or Monster Hunter..

More impressed with PS5 numebers with PS4 despite the massive shortage. 16 was the best selling (game) launch on PS5 there, GT7 is closely behind it. Rebirth is third on that list.

@Sakai Square wants the PS1 era numbers of 15mill+ for their entries. In my opinion 13 and 15 have severely damaged the reputation of FF with the generation that grew up during that.

Re: Helldivers 2 Dev Pours Cold Water on PlayStation Acquisition Rumours

CrackmanNL

@Anthony_Daniels Yep, people don't get acquiring is also acquiring overhead costs and that brings in extra risks see what happened to the ''Green'' side. And the pressure of MS going after studios excluding PS with their current strategy is gone.

Sony owns the IP and Arrowhead ain't going anywhere outside Helldivers 2 coming 3-4 years for sure. The better and cheaper option would be just for them to sign on for another title for next-gen, let them do Socom for PS6..

Re: Guerrilla's Online PS5 Horizon Game Survives Sony Cull

CrackmanNL

@InsaneWade The last quote was regarding the general consensus here from people that put down Horizon but act like ND made really well MP and that is just fraud.

And from MP experiences to exact genres. I brought up the 2007 games near it's release and the so called ''fraud praise for MP'' people are throwing here. Technically, R6:Vegas moves to third person in cover. But to actually compare Apples to Apples as you ask there was a game called Gears of War

Maybe brush up the reviews/videos around that time, no one praised Uncharted nor Last of Us for it's MP. If you enjoyed it fine, I enjoyed Lost Planet mp and MGS4 but I am not acting it was creme of the crop.

Re: Sony's London Studio, Media Molecule Were Reportedly 'Highest on the List' for Closure

CrackmanNL

@HotGoomba To be fair they still do with Astrobot and Sackboy.

Just most it is outsourced and (timed/console) exclusives under PS Indies resulted in: Bugsnax, Oddworld Soulsstorm, Solar Ashe, Kena, Stray, Sifu, Rollerdrome, Season's A Letter to the Future, Tchia, Humanity, Volcano High, Eternights, Ultros and the upcoming Pacific Drive from the top of my head.

The UK studios are not in great shape. Next one is MM final shot, the only reason they are still around is the BAFTA for LBP.

Re: Guerrilla's Online PS5 Horizon Game Survives Sony Cull

CrackmanNL

@TwoDents It didn't grab the zeitgeist. Everyone forgot it came out 1,5 month go.

@InsaneWade Yep. if you were around that time there were so many great MP experiences were Uncharted was so outdated and weak (in the MP space) especially the shooting mechanics. Some examples of 2007 when UC came out: Halo 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, CoD4: MW. Team Fortress (in the Orange Box)

You can enjoy ND's weak MP modes no issue, just don't act like Horizon is not one of PS best selling franchise and a Monster Hunter like game doesn't makes sense for it.

Re: Unannounced Games from PlayStation Studios Have Been Cancelled

CrackmanNL

It has been pretty clear the studios in the past that made smaller quirky titles are being shutdown.

Japan Studios got restructured, Pixel Opus gone, London Studios now. Even though MM is pretty small, they are not safe either.

Expensive (California) studios got hit too, SM2 being triple the budget and ND literally wasted resources on Factions for 7+ years.

I feel for the people but nothing new, Sony has been always cut throat see Zipper, Evolution and Liverpool last gen.

Re: Sony Plans to Improve Profit Margins with 'Aggressive' PC Release Strategy

CrackmanNL

Sony's been pretty transparant about live-service and their SP. Lot of misinfo. In the Sony fiscal reports they expected this year to have their biggest revenue on PC and.

Not suprised, HFW coming soon and GoW:R will hit it's 2nd year mark on console. Also Helldivers 2, Concord and Marathon (if its before march 2025) are day and date. + Titles like Until Dawn and maybe other back catalogue IPs alongside PS+.

Re: PS5 Is Entering the 'Latter Stages of Its Life Cycle', Says Sony

CrackmanNL

After this year is the midpoint, so I don't get why people are suprised. Yeah events happened that misconstrued time.

Also cost reductions like in the past with smaller nanometer chips is out of the question.. where PS3 went from 90 to 45. PS5 is basically already at 6.. diminishing returns. Though they have to manage selling it for around 300 to keep momentum at a certain point.

Re: God of War Creator Says Kratos Has Lost His Way

CrackmanNL

@themightyant Yes other people worked on it and Jaffe credits them rightfully but in the end he was the director and Sony offered him to do an external title in exchange for helping Santa Monica out with Kinetica. He's not a Kojima that plasters his own name 40 times.

Re: Just One Day Later, Microsoft Has 'No Plans to Bring Game Pass' to PS5, PS4

CrackmanNL

Nothing new what Spencer said regarding GP, Nintendo and Sony refused. What the CFO was pointing at is with 1st party and strange of strategy that could refer to other titles outside of CoD offered on other consoles. I mean I reckon some titles could make upward of a (half a) billion sold physical on PS5 and titles like Hi-fi Rush could do well on a Switch.

Re: Bungie the Next PlayStation-Owned Dev to Suffer Layoffs

CrackmanNL

@-Sigma- Well speaking of ''press'', Henderson is accurate with PS hardware so the Pro will come out. It does make sense to promote/develop your game with the Pro. People tend to forget under Jim Ryan all bigger studio have 2-3 teams now and PS studios has doubled in size since 2020.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Buying a PS5 'Slim'?

CrackmanNL

I think its unfortunate this one has the slits, that's why looks of the OG is better for me. Size wise, I would like it for my desk but yeah rather get the Pro and keep gaming on the OLED in the living room.

Re: Xbox Poised to Borrow from PS5's DualSense Controller

CrackmanNL

It is a cool feature in games lik HFW where if u stealth through a bush or ride a mount u can feel it. It does add to the immersion, in games like GT7 and Returnal it's a game changer. Then u got FF16 where I only noticed it in cutscenes when somebody gave a pat on Clive's shoulder lol.
