@DenzelDM we cant scream dey tuk r jobbs (in a south park voice) at every new innovation. This has been happening for centuries. The job market will adjust just fine to AI if needed like it did for every other new tech threat.
@DenzelDM did it take someone's job? Do they have an advent calendar position? Its more likely that this would have not been an ad at all if not for AI and there were definitely humans involved with. But that's easy to ignore right?
This is a good use case for AI image generation. It is entertaining to see so many people turn into art critics over something as meaningless as an advent calendar. Its just a seasonal throwaway market campaign.
Couldn't care less if calling cards and marketing material is ai generated. Zero impact on my gaming experience.
It would be a colossal waste of time to have thousands of hand drawn calling cards that people spend 20 seconds choosing then never think about again. Use human talent elsewhere.
The exciting thing is that it is another streamlined home console-like experience with playstation games on it. I really want one and I have a legit pc tower hooked up to my living room tv already. The form factor should be great for taking to the cabin, hotels, etc.
It won't be an outright threat to playstation but they should be concerned that they might have the only home console without pc like framework.
Maybe the playstation pc app is their solution to this where they can get 100% of theor pc games sales instead of settling for giving 30% to steam, epic, or xbox.
I've never been happy to pay for multiplayer. For as much as people gripe about the cost of pc gaming, they dont consider that you save a ridiculous amount of money over the 7 or so years of a console life by not having to pay for the priviledge to play with friends every month.
I don't see it as inevitable given xboxs situation. I see it as xbox realizing how much more profit is in multiplatform. Sony seems to be realizing this too with every franchise now on pc and testing the waters on switch and xbox.
I wish them the best of luck. I am hoping ai is the tool that saves game development. We cant continue at the current cost/time frame. Something has to change.
If a human is making things like end credits instead of ai then human time and talent is being wasted.
So they raised the internal storage to justify a price increase, then raised the price again, then took away the extra internal storage without lowering the price?
The console space is is cooked. I guess I am just playing playstation and xbox games on pc next gen. This gen has been an all around disaster.
I didn't really gel with the first one and its not a genre I particularly enjoy but I do still have an active ganepass sub so maybe I will give it a couple hours sometime.
@wildcat_kickz ps5 and series x are nearly identical because they were both conceived during the exclusive era of videogames. Xbox is rumored to be going way more into a pc based system which I would find very appealing. Playstation is also rumored to be going a very different hardware route next gen than their normal gen path. There is plenty of innovation left in consoles, we have had the same crappy system for decades and its about time it changed.
Fortunately for us, the consumers, AAA exclusives are no longer sustainable for publishers. Playstation themselves have publicly complained about profit margins on their big exclusive titles. We can either have far less playstation games published or have multiplat playstation games. Which hurts sony more?
"I saw some analysis or estimate of one same franchise released during PS4 era and PS5 era generation double the budget, and that has reached... the point that we cannot recoup this investment. So this generation, PS5 generation, I think is the first time that the industry really, truly believes that you know there has to be something that has to be done," Shuhei Yoshida
@wildcat_kickz for now playstation has exclusives that xbox doesn't have. It will interesting to see how much that has changed in a year or by the time ps6 comes around.
Honestly, how many pc people do you expect to buy a $600+ system and an $80+ game for this one single game? It will be on pc soon enough to justify not spending that kind of money. They will mostly just be convincing those still on ps4 to finally upgrade (which is rumored to be a lot of people).
Without exclusives, the console will need to be the selling feature and will be better for it. As a consumer we would get better consoles and more games on which ever one we choose. F exclusives, the hobby will be better without them.
@wildcat_kickz there is clearly a sizable audience on playstation that refused to get an xbox to play all those games that have become best sellers on playstation. Just like there is a sizable audience on xbox that will never get a playstation. Ignoring those players that you cannot, under any circumstances, convince to switch platforms is bad for the Sony brand. The best thing for playstation is releasing all games as many places as possible.
This is the best move for playstation. They should not rely on the plastic box being the end all be all for the business line in the future. That would be a losing vision. They should focus on the games being the "platform" and release them everywhere. They should get their storefront on pc with cross entitlements.
There is no reason not to port them over to xbox. Even if the install base seems small compared to ps5 and switch, you really only need to convince like 5% to buy each game and they would be looking at a decent return.
Spider man 1, last of us 1, uncharted collection, ratchet & clank, etc are doing nothing for ps5 right now. Might as well expand the audience as much as possible and port those to xbox and switch 2 asap.
Using their pc strategy of 6 months or so after console release would not harm anything. Honestly, day and date would not harm anything financially, just the feelings of the unstable console warriors of bluesky.
I argue that multiplatform is an expansion of the Sony brand not a dilution. Putting the games in front of as many potential buyers as possible is only a good thing for Sony.
I expect more of their games to be on Switch and xbox in the next few years.
Excellent move! Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. There is no down side to multiplatform. This is good news for xbox, playstation, and most importantly the game.
The strangest part is people claiming sony will or should block this. It would not make sense to do so. Even if/when it is launching playstation's steam games on xbox consoles, it will still be in Sony's best interest to let them buy and play their games.
This is an appealing strategy from xbox. I love the idea of having my high end pc in my office, an xbox in the living room, and a pc handheld in my travel bag with access to all the same libraries. I really don't see the appeal of buying games locked to a Playstation or nintendo device. I cannot bring myself to buy any more 3rd party games on Playstation with the information we currently have of the future. I will focus almost exclusively on the flexible ecosystems until Sony makes a more appealing case for their platform.
It was risky to buy an unproven studio. But the bungie purchase isn't really working out either. I'm curious what both will look like in 5 years, entirely possible one or both won't be around.
@Lukeded you mean they "forced" microsoft to do something they wanted to do? They were never going to make call of duty exclusive. It was a complete waste. Xbox would have the exact same multiplat strategy without 3.5 years of FTC pretending this deal harmed anything.
Such a waste of time and taxpayer money on the FTCs part. They did not have a case and knew it but proceeded to cause as much of a headache as possible. Their whole strategy under Khan was to inconvenience big companies out of making legal moves. I'm glad microsoft took them down a peg.
Included in the FTC's vast ignorance are the arguments that xbox does not compete with nintendo or steam, Meta/Facebook does not compete with TikTok or YouTube, and Kroger grocery stores do not compete with Walmart, costco, etc.
@lazarus11 oh no!!! Microsoft could advertise their games for them and increase the sales even further!!
Yeah....right. I don't believe microsoft would ever advertise that you could buy someone else's game on someone else's platform (steam). It would benefit sony though if they did.
Dual leadership never seemed like a good idea. A little disappointed they went with the number cruncher instead of the creative but it's an understandable decision.
Power wise it won't compete with ps5 or series x but I think a lot more "AAA" games will target the switch 2. Games will likely plateau a bit as switch 2 and other handhelds become a major focus.
I haven't seriously played a COD like this in a over a decade but I love this one. It feels like 2009 again. All 3 modes knocked it out of the park this time. Campaign is great, multiplayer is phenomenal, zombies is fun.
I am shocked that every time I think about what my game of the year will be this game is the first to mind.
I try not to comment on or bash foreign politics but this should be an interesting study to watch over the years. I am genuinely interested in how this goes.
I hate the psn requirement on other platforms (and all other publisher acct requirements like this) you should only need an account for the storefront you bought the game on. Single player games are basically always online games as being offline takes away the ability to sign in to this bs. My Steam deck isn't really an option for any of their games unless I'm connected to the internet.
Steam reviews are a great feature. As long as it's not based on something wild like female character isnt pretty enough, review bomb campaigns are mostly a positive thing.
@Smash41 if gamepass is only 15% of their revenue then they clearly haven't programmed "their entire userbase."
With the number of publishers abandoning exclusivity deals in favor of multiplat, there has to be data that supports xbox releases. Death stranding obviously won't sell gangbusters at this point but I bet it makes money.
It's a win win situation for both xbox and call of duty especially once Nintendo is included. They still enjoy strong sales on other platforms and gamepass receives a boost. More people are playing call of duty than ever before. That franchise everyone thought was fading might actually get bigger than ever.
Playstation seems unharmed so far as well so really just an overall positive for the game/industry.

@DenzelDM moment of silence for that one hypithetical artist that might have missed out on a contract for a single ad opportunity.

Rhythm music games seem like an ai centric genre. This might be a good fit for the franchise.
