I do appreciate it when even subpar games get preserved. Even many bad games do not deserve to be lost to time, in my opinion. Like that Bubsy collection that's coming out: there is not a single Bubsy game I've played that I've enjoyed (opinions may vary on that, but that's just my experience), but I was SO hyped when that was announced haha, just to hear that my boy Bubsy, The King of Bad, is preserved for the foreseeable future. So while I am not going to pretend these are all-time classics that everyone has been waiting so long to come back, I still appreciate seeing stuff like this.
Fingers crossed they come with all the DLC, even if just a voucher, although frankly I expect they will not. Similarly I would love to see PSVR2 support for 7, but that also I cannot see being likely. Regardless, pretty cool that they are doing this at all I suppose.
The more I read about this, the more I respected what they were doing and think it's actually an awesome idea. And that's coming from somebody who very rarely watches movies anymore.
Sucker Punch never disappoints! I'm sure this will be fantastic. Seriously one of my favourite developers in the whole industry, I've loved basically all of their games for years now.
I might actually get the controller, just because for some reason it always kind of made me sad that they took away the colours for the face buttons on the PS5 controller. I always thought it was very iconic of PlayStation, so I was sad to see that go with the PS5!
He's saying it almost as if his character is the only character promoting this "small game" (which is currently well above the critic and user scores of Days Gone on Metacritic, and I am willing to bet will outsell Days Gone, so what a strange thing to say), singling out Deacon, when a LOT of IPs are obviously being used for this purpose. It's all about a celebration of PlayStation IPs as a whole, honestly I don't know how he can't grasp that. Don't mean to be so antagonistic towards the guy, but I really think he's being irrational and naive about this.
...Would he have been happier if a photorealistic Deacon made a cameo instead, in this cutesy robot 3D platformer game?
PS3 is probably my favourite console of all times, and Vita is up there as one of my favourite handhelds, so I am glad that they are still up. However, I fear their time is coming sooner rather than later, and who can be sure how much notice Sony will give on their stores shutting down. That's why I'm starting to buy up things I'm "missing" already. Long live the PS3 and Vita! Maybe not the very best consoles there ever was, but definitely some of my favourites.
Well sure I guess, but if you already lost money in putting out such a live service title, it is a pretty risky move to sink even more money into it, hoping that eventually you will profit off it. What is probably more likely to happen is that you turn a flop into an even bigger flop, when the money you spent on trying to turn around the flop (and thus turning it into the bigger flop) could have been spent on an entirely new project that might actually have a shot at being profitable. Absolutely, sometimes these live service projects are dropped too early, but a lot of the time at least from a financial perspective I would say it makes sense to do.
PSVitaR2 Assuming this report is true, I saw this coming. Seems to just be the way Sony goes about these kinds of things. Understandable, but a shame, as I love the Vita and while I have not tried out the PSVR2 it seems that many people also really love that one.
That's totally understandable and still cool, but I was kind of hoping that this would be Mafia 4. Still though, the Borderlands are some of my go-to co-op games, so I can't really complain about another one coming soon!
Good. I'm going to be completely honest and say that The Last of Us is by far my least favourite Naughty Dog developed franchise on PlayStation, so I would love to see them move on to try something else now. I know many others love it and I totally understand why, but personally I would be ecstatic to see Naughty Dog do something fresh again.
It was good. Not great, but good. Astro Bot absolutely carried the show, I am kind of a sucker for Dynasty Warriors so that looked interesting as well, but the rest of it for me was either not at all interested or only slightly of interest. But man, just for Astro Bot alone, it would be impossible for me to call it bad. THIS is the type of game I have been wanting Sony to put out!
@TrickyDicky99 Yeah, you're right, they're mainly loss leader products to make sure that people choose PS5 over everything else, and then the real money is made on that juicy cut that Sony gets from everything else. As long as budgets don't go too insane, it will probably continue to be worth it for them. Honestly, I'm just envious of companies like Nintendo, which get away with so much in terms of software sales while spending dimes compared to companies like Sony.
I'm more so worried about rising game costs, and how Sony will adapt to that. I imagine most of their profits are coming from the 30% cut they get from purchases on their platform, PS Plus, stuff like that. But games like Spiderman 2 having a budget of $300 million is just wacky, and these types of budgets are only going to increase more and more unless Sony takes action to limit budgets on their games. Eventually, if budgets keep going out of control, Sony is going to reach a tipping point where even their biggest AAA games can't profit anymore. They have to get their budgets under control.
Jokes on them, I use a Stadia controller whenever the need for a controller on my laptop arises! Mainly just because I find it personally funny for some reason, and people who see me using it also seem to get a good chuckle out of it
I hope this is true! Astro's Playroom has definitely been my favourite first party Sony game since Uncharted 4, unless I'm forgetting something. This is the type of stuff I like to see from Sony!
Noted! Don't own the game yet, but since this DLC is free I might as well just pick it up both on PS and Switch, just in case. Thanks a lot for the heads up!
With all due respect to the guy and his obvious talent, any time anybody makes that bold of a claim I immediately become skeptical. Not that I expect whatever it is to be bad or anything, don't get me wrong.
I absolutely adore turn based strategy games / strategy RPGs and would consider myself pretty good at them too, but interestingly I almost never am interested in real time strategy. Unless it's Fort Condor in FF7, I always strangely enjoyed that minigame in particular, if we can count that as real time strategy (I guess it's more so tower defense, admittedly)
@Americansamurai1 I have seriously wanted them to do a PS All Stars redemption arc for so long! They have all the material they need for the game to be good, and you're absolutely right about evo. I would just wonder who should develop it, as admittedly as much as I still find the original kind of charming, I can't pretend that I think it's a particularly good game. Perhaps they could outsource its development?
Absolutely mental numbers. I've always moderately enjoyed GTA, never been a super fan, but it is just such a "staple" game in every aspect for just picking it up for 30 minutes and messing around, that it kind of has this universal appeal, and so if anything was to have such sales numbers, it makes sense that GTA would be up there.
...I'll admit that I've always been more fond of Vice City and 4, though.
@MeatyVeg It is in the sense that they decided to overhaul the franchise (a franchise of two whole games haha, and only one before they decided it needed a fresh start) and start fresh, doing a fresh take on the franchise, going as far as calling it the exact same name (often relatively characteristic of reboots, such as God of War and Tomb Raider). But I respect your opinion my friend, it's not a very well-defined term at times! The amount of times I have heard people argue semantics over if something is a remake/remaster/enhanced port/reboot/etc is pretty comical at this point
I always find reboot stuff like this where they just use the original name kind of dumb and very uncreative, but to be fair for this one, I'm not sure how many Madden fans remember that the game from about 10 years ago was named anything but the year of the game, unless I'm misjudging and it's a really memorable franchise moment for Madden fans.
Anyways, my least favourite instance of this reboots-taking-the-same-name-as-the-original phenomenon is Lords of the Fallen. The "franchise" had one game, they decided it needed a reboot, and they just gave it the same name! So we have a franchise with two games, one of those being a reboot for some reason, and both games sharing the same name...
"What's your favourite Lords of the Fallen? Is it Lords of the Fallen, or is it Lords of the Fallen?"
@8bitOG Yeah. And again, I don't think it would be such a huge deal if you needed an account but it was still accessible worldwide, but unfortunately it is now more difficult for people to play these games if they live in an unsupported region.
Profits and all that aside, too, it gives Sony a bit of a bad image. If I lived in an unsupported region right now I would be a bit peeved at Sony (especially after the Helldivers 2 fiasco).
@REALAIS You're absolutely right, yeah. I do wonder, though, how many people either aren't willing to do that or how many people are scared of their account getting terminated. Just like how I know a few people that want to watch a Netflix show only available in the US, but aren't willing to use a VPN for similar reasons. But you would know better than I would my friend, as you are in an unsupported region while I am not.
I honestly don't think the PSN requirement would be a huge deal if it didn't mean that so much of the world is told "sorry, the coincidental fact that you happen to be located in this geographical region dictates that you do not have the privilege to play this game".
All this is going to do is lead to the game being pirated, I would think. But I can't say I am too familiar with piracy, so I don't know if pirating the game would be able to remove the PSN requirement in any way, like how pirating some games can remove their DRM. So my assumption here might be completely wrong. Regardless, I do think it's a bit of a strange requirement that will only lead to them making less money, unless increasing the number of PSN accounts (not PS Plus, but specifically PSN) somehow increases their revenue, despite PSN accounts being free, in a way unknown to me.
I suppose they're trying to make the name sound less cold and businessy, but how (ironically) uncreative that name is means that it still sounds just as cold and businessy as before. Waste of time. Or, perhaps, they could have given it an actual name...
I don't buy consoles until I can get them for under $350 CAD, that's my personal rule (only exception to the rule is rare consoles that I want but also know that the price will never be cheap on). So chances are in 10 years, I can finally pick up a used PS5 (even then I'll still be keeping and using my PS4, simply because I very much like it). And I don't mind that one bit.
I do quite like Bioshock, but I've had my fill of the franchise, and am content with them leaving it where it is. Judas can fill the void of something Bioshockesque for me as a new IP.
Not into Civ, and Borderlands is cool but I never really got into it.
Meanwhile I just went back to Mafia 2 recently, and I forgot how much I absolutely adore that game, even if realistically it's not like it's a 10/10 or anything. So I would be stoked to see a new Mafia game. I wonder what time and place they would do this time...
