@Vault_Mcfly I dont think many believe they are superior. Idk how you ended up feeling as though they look down on you for console gaming.

I simply meant that for them it's a passion, and they want to push the capabilities of the game. I'm simply saying that you can buy a car, and be content, or you can buy it, mod it, and truly feel ownership over it. I play on both.

If I have a choice of gaming with ultrawide support, FPS above 120hz and stable, and can buy said game from a place of my choosing? Then I will. that doesn't make me superior. Just means I roll differently. Its stupid for people to think PCs better than console, or PS better than Xbox, or console better than mobile. Who gives a hoot.

@8bitOG yeah, I think if you look at each console Gen, the number never gets past 250 million often. It's estimated that as of 2024 there is over 1.8 billion PC Gamers. add up the ps4 and xbone, ps2 and xbox OG. along with Nintendo consoles for each gen, and yeah, never really breaks 300 mill most gens. PC is just a giant, and I suspect that's why nearly every game in existence gets sold on there either 1st or day 1. Sony selling games on PC makes financial sense.

@lightningbolt79 I enjoy video games. You nailed it though, getting online and seeing the news, and the crazy rumors, just kinda ruins gaming for me and a few I know.

It’s not fun anymore. I’m still looking for a plane Jane website for gaming news that doesn’t ride rumors and BS for clicks.

@AdamNovice not entirely. Pretty much every game out there is developed on a PC, then ported to the target consoles. They make continuous adjustments to both throughout the dev cycle side by side.

That’s why all game dev studios have so many PC’s.

Do doing both PS5, and PC dev wouldn’t change s as thing.

They would simply be releasing the PC build that they already had on hand.

Legitimate concern you have there. However it wouldn’t change anything, since that’s how it’s done already.

I enjoy games, not plastic box wars, so I don’t care at all lol.

But for 16 years we were fine without day n date games in a subscription. I don’t think nearly anyone outside of the internet hubs would even give a crap.

50 million PS5 sold, and only what? 200-300 at most bother to discuss it on here? We’re a tiny little wee minority. No honest to god grown ass adult is going to give a hoot.

@MaikonCSGarcia exactly this. The game wasn’t being made, so there was never a profit expected. Now that it is, it’s going to bring in money for both parties involved. Even if it only makes $10,000 in actual sales profit, that’s still more than $0.

I agree with others too, that Disney was obviously happy with the terms, and wouldn’t have moved forward unless they were.

@somnambulance idk, I worry about the cost of the next PS console tbh. They charge $500, cuz the competition prices theirs at $500 as well.

If high end option for console is Sony Only. They’d prolly charge $600 or more for the PS6.

I enjoy both of my consoles mind you.

But if high end graphics Mean I have to buy a PC for $1500 or a Console for $500, what’s to stop Sony from charge a ton. Why keep your’e price so dang low, if the other option costs so much. I’d bank on that fact. I’d charge $800 a console, and remind you that “Hey… you’re still saving $700 compared to buying a PC, take it or leave it.

I know it’s silly to imagine, but as a company wanting to make money, why wouldn’t they do that? Any realistic reason?

@TheCollector316 I just found an article from 2021, so pretty dang recent. I guess Qualcomms own Aptx codec is now considered lossless. So yeah that’s neat. Could Sony be using Aptx and licensing it from Qualcomm maybe?

From the article. “Qualcomm's aptX technology is different because it is based on ADPCM (Advanced Pulse Code Modulation) techniques and is a non-destructive codec. “

Further reading suggests that even so, it’s barely above 16-bit CD quality, Apple Music lossless is 24-bit with a DAC.

@TheCollector316 See it’s still not clicking lol…Lossless audio is “uncompressed” audio. How can uncompressed lossless audio, then be compressed, but not lossy. I’m not knocking Sony, but as an Audiophile, it’s not made clear enough.

Lossless audio is completely untouched. Compression removes data and information of the file, in order to compress is. Most uncompressed Flac files are 40mb for a 3 minute song. Wav files are even larger. MP3’s are the smallest at just 3-4mb. They’ve been reduced to such a small scale by having the file be gutted of large bits of audio data.

I’m sure Sony figured something neat out, maybe their own MQA style work around.

But most actual full range headphones with low OHMS are required to be wired, and typically need an external amp to properly drive them. There really aren’t any wireless headphones that allow uncompressed audio, I can’t think of any from Focal or seinheiser for instance.

So yeah it’s still not clear enough in my book why they would say it’s uncompressed. Unless they have a new codec their not going to license out to anyone, and keep said breakthrough to themselves.

@GamingFan4Lyf not to complicate it even more, but I just found out a week ago that Dolby uses two forms of Atmos software lol. The “real one” licensed for AVRs and pre/pros, and a “not real/faux” version for soundbars. Watching the Digital trends video on the Nagamichi Dragon system, they discussed how the company had to ask Dolby for the full version numerous times before they were given the license. It appears Dolby doesn’t use allow the full version on sound bars because it’s not a actual dedicated setup, and could hurt the atmos reputation.

Either way, it’s really great for people to be able to enjoy the Tempest sound in more ways. I’m just wondering how far its utilization will actually be allowed. Still great to see.

I always tell people the DSL and ADSL are good connection. It’s not shared like cable and some Fiber. So when you’re offered 20mb, you typically get it all the time. It’s a really really stable connection.

So the discussion about speed isn’t on point, it’s about infrastructure and connection type.
