Phwoar, the hype meter's off the charts here at Push Square thanks to a relatively blurry image obtained by NeoGAF - isn't that always the way? The image - as you may have guessed - is the box art for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's second and final expansion, Blood and Wine. It features main character Geralt looking rather regal, while a big ugly monster looms over the back of him.
So, what can this cover tell us about the yet-to-be-detailed downloadable content? Well, for starters, we're pretty sure that the creature in question is some form of vampire - and with that in mind, the add-on's name, Blood and Wine, starts to make a lot more sense.
In the expansion, Geralt is off to Toussaint, a somewhat cultured location famous for its wine. Could it be that Toussaint has become overrun with blood suckers? Seems like a logical conclusion to us, and if so, we imagine there'll be plenty of player choice involved in the silver haired swordsman's final adventure.
It's also worth mentioning that the box only contains a download code for the DLC - much like Hearts of Stone's retail edition did. Oh, and it comes with two whole Gwent decks as well, so we'll finally be able to teach Sammy how to play. Maybe.
Are you liking the looks of this? Impatiently await concrete details and an official release date in the comments section below.
Update: CD Projekt Red has gone ahead and revealed the full Blood and Wine box art image, vampire wings and all. You can see it below.

Haha, that is pretty rad.
Cool! Pimp cups and vampires.
I get to visit Touissant and complete my gwent cards collection? Gyaaaah!
A DLC box? OK then.
Actually, on second viewing I'm not sure this is a vampire after all! In Witcher lore vampire's are humanoid bat-faced like things that don't usually have wings. This looks like something new. Or maybe a variant of vampire we haven't seen before...
That 'monster' looked a lot like 'Eddie' from Iron Maiden - post Derek Riggs...
Gwent is great, but don't feel bad Sammy, it took me sometime as well.
@RawShark As far as I'm aware, there are various vampire species in The Witcher's world, but yeah, I wouldn't want to say this is 100% a vampire. Then again... The fangs, the creepy hands, the bat-like wings... Blood and Wine... It has to be!
Looks dangerous, worth at least 500 florens that.
Better than the box art for the actual game.
Same as the last one, if there's no disc I'm not buying it.
My third boxed Witcher 3 (Original game, the first expansion and now blood and wine)
The true GOTY is about to get better.
@ShogunRok I don't know... It could be a Womble's final evolution! Uncle Bulgaria is about 32 pieces of litter away from reaching the required XP. Luckily he still doesn't have the dimeritium plates needed.
@RawShark Damn those dimeritium plates! Can never find any when you need them!
I wish they'd hurry up and announce a GOTY edition already, every time theres a witcher article I'm hoping there's some news about it included
Make me sad that the 26th april was a fake release date. I so want to get back into witcher3. Heart off stone was the greatest dlc ever.
Oh the witcher. The greatest game I ever sunk 125 hours into without coming close to beating. When I saw my game time, and how little I had actually done, I felt so defeated I took a break (if I'm being honest, around that time I had sort of a mental breakdown from overworking myself which left me unable to do a lot of things for a month so that probably was the main reason I didn't continue) and have yet to be able to bring myself back. Sad though. Everything about that game was so perfect, the depth of inventory and crafting was very intimidating even after all the hours I put in being the only "downfall", that I look at the game shamefully in my collection. One day I tell myself I will finish.
awesome
@feral1975 it's just a box, you can purchase it digitally too.
@BAMozzy maybe Eddie is the final boss, before he became a part of iron maiden lol
Even after everything, I still boot up the game, turn off the HUD (very important), call Roach, and ride in a random direction just to experience the world. I'm gonna be so sad when this is all over!
Love these boxed release...
Reminds me the good old days of real expansion pack.
@Alpha Exactly, I don't support digital only releases, even if they give you a box and a few freebies.
@RawShark Awesome!
@feral1975 normally I don't either unless it's absolutely digital only or dlc or online only like Need for Speed. And definitely games like Need for Speed never at full price. Lol.
But you do know this is dlc for an already released title right? This doesn't come with the main game, the main game is needed. I'm sure you do know that though lol. Wish I could upload pics here, you'd see why I agree with you though lol. My physical collection.
