Acceptable in the eighties

As expected, the first batch of PlayStation 2 games will release on the PlayStation 4 tomorrow. We have a sneaking suspicion that this was intended as a PlayStation Experience 2015 announcement, but there have been way too many leaks over the past 24 hours for Sony to hold out. Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way first: your old PS2 discs and PS2 Classics purchases will not carry forward.

Eight games will be available starting tomorrow: Dark Cloud, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Rogue Galaxy, The Mark of Kri, Twisted Metal Black, and War of the Monsters. Each title will be enhanced with sharper presentation, full Trophy support, and Remote Play compatibility. The games will cost between $9.99 and $14.99 in North America, which is more than we were anticipating.

Additional titles will be added over time, with the likes of Fantavision, PaRappa the Rapper 2, and more all glimpsed in the trailer embedded below. "We hope that you love playing PS2 games on your PS4 as much as we did making them," Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida wrote on the PlayStation Blog. "So tell us, what PS2 games do you want to play on your PS4 [in the future]?"
