The PlayStation Plus hype train has finally entered the station. August's selection includes Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris on PlayStation 4, as well as atmospheric adventure Limbo. Cross-buy titles Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones and Sound Shapes add some meat to the offering across all three Sony platforms, while the ageing PlayStation 3 gets God of War: Ascension and CastleStorm Complete Edition. The latter is also on Vita.
Are you happy with next month's selection, or has it left you smashing your keyboard in frustration? Share your thoughts – good or bad – in the comments section below.

2 AAA titles and 4 GREAT indies, from wich 1 is worth noting for trophy hunters if they own all 3 platforms (soundshapes, you only have to complete it once to recieve 3 precious platinum trophies)
it's a great month to be a + subscriber.
Hard hats on folks, here come the pelters
Pretty happy with this myself. Have wanted Lara Croft for a while, and, while I wouldn't buy it, will happily play Limbo again. I've already got Sound Shapes - which is great - but will gladly try out Stealth Inc 2. And I'd recommend God of War: Ascension if you haven't played it already.
Only thing I'm not fussed about at all is CastleStorm.
@get2sammyb Well you got a game with Castle in the name right
Ugh, I thought maybe Tomb Raider but no, we get osiris, kick in the teeth or what. Another month of trash, I don't care what they offer on PS3.
@adf86 Yup, I was certain The Castle Game would be one. Oh well, I need to get it wrong sometimes to keep my feet on the ground! XD
Lara Croft ToO was somethin I wanted but I was also pretty sure that they will give it at Plus
Limbo, gain? Meh I'll probably replay it for some trophies.
GoW, Had this one but lost it on my last moving, so it's welcome
Stealth Inc WAs a good game, so I want to try the secodn too
Sound Shapes and Castlestorm are games I already have, at least they are fun for those that dont own them.
@get2sammyb castlestorm is a great game, I already completed it on my wiiU. I would really recommend you to atleast try it out.
Sound shapes is probably the only game I'll give more than five minutes to, hopefully it'll live up to the hype.
I wanted the Lara Croft game for a looooooong time! Sound shapes too...
Ascension I already have but it's great...
Castlestorm seems MEH...
Limbo...whuuuuuut, I though we had that already -.-
And Stealth Inc...I don't know, I didn't even finish the first one (good game but...)
I think I got Lara Croft free on 360 before, but then my 360 died (for the 4th and last time) so haven't actually played ! Looking forward to try everything except Castlestorm myself
Edit: wait Castle Storm is not the other "Castle" game Sammy mentioned yesterday. Actually I do want to try Castle Storm as well
Three out of six for me, and that's only because I just don't like Tomb Raider. Pretty good going far as I'm concerned!
@darkswabber I've played it on the Vita already. Not my thing, sadly.
Just Stealth Inc 2 and Castlestorm for me, got all the others and Lara Croft is still on the naughty step for me.
Well not exactly a bad selection but im still waiting for more exclusives :/
Tomb Raider looks like a cool addition thou, i own all the other games on another place.
Not that interesting when you don't have a PS3.
The only one I actually wanted is Limbo, so that is nice.
Already got Lara Croft, pretty decent game. Happy with Limbo, but I have no idea what Sound Shapes or Stealth Inc 2 are
For me this is one of those months where I have the games I'd be interested in already, and I'm not at all interested in the ones I don't. Stoked for anyone that doesn't already have Sound Shapes. You're in for a treat!
Not bad. Not bad at all.
I don't why I always get my hopes up every month for a PS4 AAA. Apparently it's not going to happen for awhile, but it's a bad habit of mine I guess. Not bad though, I guess. I'll definitely play Limbo at some point, while I could honestly care less about the Lara Croft game. Should've kept my PS3 for Ascension, even though I've heard it really isn't that great.
Good selection this month. Happy with all these. I own Limbo on my PS3 but never played it much. I will Will be giving it another try.
Bit cheeky giving out Limbo, seeing as it was already given away on PS3 almost 3 years ago and I gather the PS4 version is exactly the same. I'll take Stealth Inc 2 and GoW though, so not all bad. Witcher is going to keep me busy until MGSV anyway to be honest!
Good lineup for a change !
Temple of Osiris and God of War Ascension? I'm done with these two games! And for anyone that hasn't played Limbo...well, you kind of need to do that. Such a cleverly designed and creepily atmospheric indie game.
a lot of stuff I already have this time. Is Lara Croft playable without friends?
@Anchorsam_9 Sound Shapes is really cool. Musical platformer.
@get2sammyb Nice! I'm a fan of those
Well I will probably add them all to my library but the only one I will download will be Lara.
Ive been waiting for sound shapes so I'm very happy
Just like how I didn't play Fez 2, I shan't be wasting my time with SellOut Raider here.
Limbo… 😔 absolutely aweful the first time I played it, so thats a NOPE.
Tomb Raider is literally a sub par consolation prize for not getting the proper game.
Music games dont do it for me and I tried Stealth Inc and it didnt click.
I dont have a Vita or PS3.
I hold out hope for a nice DmC style action platformer!
Could be worse. I dont think I want to play Limbo a 3rd time and I wont be able to do any form of co op in ToO. Might not play any of this months games but iv got enough backlogged so im not vexed.
I'm really glad GOW ascension got on the service. I'm a game or so from playing GOW 3 - and then this will finish the 1-3+ascension saga for me.
I'm also interested in sound shapes, so overall, not bad. Not sure about the ps4 games.
I was hoping for Submerged, that looks really cool.
I know indies are exempt from criticism but I just didnt like Limbos art style.
It would be nice to see more NOT sidescrollers though, as its pretty rare to see these days.
I'm really happy this month. Quite a few games I will play, but GoW Acension is the only PS2/PS3 GoW I haven't played so that is very welcome.
@vegeta11 Ascension is worth a play, but its not as strong as the others.
Its a decent prequel though.
Couldn't be more disappointed. Limbo is a fantastic game for those who have yet to play it, but I've already beaten it twice. I'll still download these and maybe even end up loving them. But as of now I'm pretty disappointed.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya Of course indies can get criticised, Squares only got 6/10 yesterday.
@NaughtyOttsel22 well you would have been hard pressed to play Fez 2 even if you'd wanted to. Y'know, on account of it being cancelled, and the creator pretty much confirming that it is never going to happen.
@SteveButler2210 XD I probably should proof read comments before sending them.
My bad
@adf86 Its rare to see this community commenting on how an Indie is "derivative" or "same old" despite many, not all, but many Indies sharing the exact same layout, playstyle and art direction.
Just an observation.
Im not against Indies before anyone starts claiming that nonsense but I just feel that sometimes those things get conveniently overlooked in an Indy game yet in a "triple a" game they are pointed out routinely.
Just my two cents is all.
I can't believe there is actually games I want on the list this month, I am in shock. Wanted to try lara croft too, have limbo on ps3 so am happy to get it on my ps4, only God of war I never played was ascension so I am happy with that as Well. The rest are just a bonus for me.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya That's fair enough, you make some good points. I think part of the reasoning behind AAA games getting criticised for "lack of innovation" is down to the fact that it is AAA, because when you have games with top end graphics and big marketing budgets it brings much bigger expectations. The Order: 1886 is a great example of this because it has stunning graphics and was marketed heavily, with that came very high expectations on the final product. That is why many were angry that "the game was short, lacked multiplayer and boring gameplay" because quite a few expect a full retail game to come with a heck a lot of content. When it comes to an indie game they are much cheaper of course so people don't expect much from a game that they paid a quarter of the cost for a AAA, plus there's the old "everyone loves an underdog" thing. When you hear about a two team studio that made a little game out of their shed and it turns out to be quite good, it's only natural for people to jump on that and champion it. And when you say that a fair number of indie games are quite "derivative" I assume you mean sidescrollers? That's probably because they are easier, safer and cheaper to make, plus far more indie devs existing over AAA ones means the output of that genre happens a lot more.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya i think the term "indy" just means £15 or less. I understand your point that they all share a template, but its not true on PC theres tons of variety. Just most of the psplus platformers we get every month have been slow moving platformers. (but i like them as they are easy to finish over 2-3 nights.)
I quite enjoyed TR: the last guardian (although I never completed it) so will download the Temple of Osiris because its free but nothing else appeals. Might get Limbo although bored with all the 2D platformers - I had enough of those in the 80's!
Sweet a month that isn't pure grabo!
Pretty darn good selection overall!
@adf86 And thats exactly my point.
I commend folk who make a game in their living room, I beta tested Uplink by Introversion and that was literally 3 blokes in a bedroom.
It was great because it WASNT like anything else.
Now Rocket League was the first Plus addition Ive tried in months, purely as it was NOT like many of the offerings.
I didnt enjoy it but it was nice to see something completely different and its an example that you dont need to churn out tried and true gamestyles to be successful.
If a company, big or small, turns out a product that is a "clone" of something else for example, or copies the exact same formula, then if its a negative for one product it must be a negative for the other, one cant just decide that it is no longer a negative point because the person or persons has less budget, but unfortunately, oftentimes, this doesnt seem to be the case.
I enjoy a well made, innovative Indie game just as much as a big budget game, but I feel when I see the exact same thing over and again, I go out of my way to avoid it.
I speak solely for myself.
Cool, wanted to play that Lara Croft game, but never got around to it. I will admit the main reason I skipped it is because I was salty over the still idiotic deal to shut PS4 gamers out of Rise of the Tomb Raider for a year but for 'free' can't complain.
@themcnoisy indie means independent, as in there wasn't a big company involved to get money or to get the game out there on the (digital) shelves. They did it independently (with some help of their kickstarter backers some times)
@darkswabber I know, I backed Shenmue, pillars and elite.
The term independent is ambiguous at best when David Braben and Peter Molyneux are using the term its kind of lost its original meaning.
@themcnoisy Ninja Theory are an Indie dev.
Entirely self funded and self producing.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya Does that include Devil May Cry the copyright of Capcom? In fact Ninja Theory are a perfect example of what I'm trying to say. They are independent but have done work for a big publisher - so are they still independent?
@themcnoisy I think they bought the license from Capcom but I could be wrong.
But yes youre right, the have games published by other companies but they are t a subsidiery.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya
Devil May Cry is definitely still under Capcom's control.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya Yeah weird, glad you mentioned Ninja theory though I just ordered odyssey to the west for the 360 for £4, only game other than persona 4 arena that I missed last gen that I still want now. Sweet.
@themcnoisy Its a good game, Andy Serkis is top tier for voice acting and the game is vibrant and fun.
Ninja Theory are a good dev in my opinion.
ehh its ok.
I've wanted that Lara Croft game for a while so that's great news. Genuinely something I'd have ended up buying sooner or later. I can't say the same for the rest.
