"Forget sandwiches, Jill – this is selling like hot cakes"

There'll be high-fives all around Capcom headquarters today, as the company has announced that its recent Resident Evil remake – which launched on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, among other platforms – is the company's fastest-selling digital title of all time. It also smashed PlayStation Network records, scoring the largest day one launch in the history of Sony's online service. Impressive stuff.

"It's been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have enjoyed this new release," said a confused producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, forgetting that the title originally deployed over ten years ago. "The team here at Capcom Japan have worked hard to bring the game to the latest generation of consoles and we are thrilled at this news on its performance."

There are rumours that the firm has Resident Evil Zero in the pipeline next, which seems almost certain after the success of this outing. Of course, the one that everyone wants is Resident Evil 2, but seeing as that would require a full makeover at this point, we don't recommend holding your breath just yet. Still, if one person can do it as a learning exercise, then surely the Japanese publisher can pull it off. Right?
