Video: There Are Already PS4 Controllers Out in the Wild

Posted by Sammy Barker

That's a DualShock

There may still be a few weeks left until the PlayStation 4 officially hits store shelves, but that’s not stopping some shops from selling the controllers early. One lucky YouTube user managed to get his eager mitts on a DualShock 4 from an unnamed outlet – and subsequently posted an unboxing video of the enhanced input device.

In truth, there’s not a whole lot to get excited about here. The packaging is blue, the peripheral comes safely secured in a plastic container, and it all ships with a manual. You don’t get a USB charging cable with each individual device, but one comes with the actual console. Are any of your local shops stocking PS4 products yet? Let us know in the comments section.

The only thing I noticed PS4 wise around where I live are preorders for games, systems and controller. Nothing other than that though.

Well I defiantly like the comparison to the PS3 controller, up until now I thought it was about the same size but now I noticed that its bigger which is nice for me since I am use to the Xbox 360 controller. Also am I right in seeing that the PS4 controller wont need batteries? Do you just plug it into your PS4 to charge?

@Tasuki That's right ! Plug it and charge it just like ps3! No batteries, when empty just use a cable for an hour or two

@Sanquine: Thanks for the reply that will be great. Can't even tell you how much I spend on batteries a month for my 360 controllers.

@Tasuki That was one of the reason i hated the xbox 360 controller. Always those batteries... My batteries died on me with some heavy shooting part in gears.. Result i died and lost my temper!

@get2sammyb its a usb 3.0 which is b/c with 2.0 on computers, so hopefully! Darn cables are like $15.
Pretty sweet looking, tho. I thought it'd be kinda sticky rubber, like a MadCats ps2 controller I once had. I'd so plug that into my pc and try to find drivers!

@Sanquine: Yeah there is that too, I can't tell you how many times that happened to me the last time I was playing some GTA, but yeah the cost alone for batteries is bad as well.

Attention everyone interested in getting the controller early. I just spoke to a best buy employee and he said that picture was leaked from Canada! Canada is getting the controller early not us!

@get2sammyb afraid not. That's a picture of a micro-USB port, DS3s use mini USB. It'll be new cables all the way, but EVERYBODY already has at least one micro-USB now right? I've personally got eight!

Still waiting for news of when the Blue and Red controllers are coming to the USA.

I just picked up my preordered ds4, they had cameras in stock too actually. (I'm in Canada)

My initial impressions are good. Sticks are tighter, the triggers are way better and in fact l1/r1 are too. The touch pad makes it more front heavy, depends how you hold it I guess. Face buttons closer together and evenly spaced, but spaced miles apart compared to Vita, which I love anyway. The touchpad click is pleasing and overall the unit feels good quality. More "for business" than the ds3 which immediately seems flimsy in comparison. The dpad also seems nicer, more smooth and quality.

One thing I noticed that "time will tell" about is the sticks seem to have less overall travel, edge to edge. This could cut either way, but with the reportedly smaller deadzone this might amount to nothing but greater comfort due to less extreme range of motion.

Anyone having questions about it, just tag me in the comment, I'll try to offer insight, based on having it in hand.
