It may only be March, but Tomb Raider is currently the game to beat. Crystal Dynamics’ well-received reboot safely secured the biggest launch of the year so far, outselling 2013's previous best, the awful Aliens: Colonial Marines, by more than double. It’s worth remembering, however, that the title released on a Tuesday as opposed to the ordinary Friday. Nevertheless, it set a new record for the franchise in the UK, beating out the first week sales of Tomb Raider: Legend by some margin.
Elsewhere in this week's UK sales charts, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 fought its way into third, while FIFA 13 dribbled into fifth. Last week’s frontrunner Crysis 3 slipped down into sixth, while Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 remained a nuisance in seventh. As always, you can peruse the full list of movers and shakers through here. Really worth, this version of tomb raider is.
Just can't like the mp...
I'm not surprised by this. The game was really cheap in the UK, and it always looked ace. The great reviews were probably just the icing on the cake.
Such an amazing game. Nice to see it doing well because I want to see many many more of them.
Great news, the game is fantastic and deserves the sales it gets. Will be interested to see how the performance will be here in North America when the NPDs get released.
@Gamer83 I'm sure it will be near the top. BioShock Infinite, God of War: Ascension, and the new Gears of War will all be up there, but Tomb Raider is multiplatform and has almost the entire month to sell more copies. I wouldn't be surprised if it finished at the top, actually.
@get2sammyb True regarding the price, I preordered and picked it up for a measly 30 quid. Low on price, high on quality ... hopefully other publishers take note.
@devperson Same in Australia. It would have been $20 more to pick up Dead Space or Crysis. A no brainer, and I am lovin the game.
I'm enjoying it, but so much of it is ripped directly from the various Uncharted games (probably why it's so good) that it must be bordering on lawsuit territory. Good job Naughty Dog aren't Apple!
I'm still on the fence. I never really cared for the PS1 games, but I enjoyed things like God of War. Not sure if I should pick it up.
