KALofKRYPTON

Since the Spider-Man Collectors Edition is up for pre-order in some places and features some pretty standard tat like, DLC, Artbook, in game costume items and a statue that will never look as nice as it should, I wanted to start a new thread!

What's your favourite or most anticipated gaming related tat (or highly valuable merchandise, depending on your point of view)?

I'm not really all that in to the buying of special and limited editions of games these days and I generally hold a fairly curmudgeonly attitude towards most of the ridiculously priced games that come with stuff as I've just seen far too many 'tat in a box' so called special editions for ridiculous money.

I have partaken in the (even fairly recent) past though, and still have a couple of bits of game tat that I quite like.

The Infamous: Second Son special edition was pretty cool, and I use the hat and game case jacket even now.
I also still have the Temple of Osiris tat, the little Lara figure is nice.

As for future gaming tat, I'm quite looking forward to getting a Feisar Totaku - possibly tomorrow!

@KALofKRYPTON Based on the topic title I thought you were going to show off your gaming tattoo's!

I never buy these deluxe things. To me it's all kinda garbage I wouldn't know where to store. I don't mean it's ugly, but more that they would be in my way wherever I put them. I only buy 'deluxe editions' for music related stuff, but even that hardly ever happens.

@Kidfried I only have a Superman s/ tattoo! I had intended to get a Ikaruga thing and a Talisman (Games Workshop) but never committed.

I like stuff, but not usually at gaming special edition prices unless it's really, really nice.
I got the Bloodborne one, which was actually lovely stuff, but sold it for an offer I couldn't pass up!

I have an absurd amount of gaming tat. Mainly Final Fantasy related but some other stuff too. I've got a lot of action figures including but not limited to: multiple different versions of Cloud, Tifa, Sephiroth, and Vincent, and then the rest of the standard FFVII figures, every single FFVIII action figure including Guardian Forces, the entire cast of FFIX (the ones that were released, anyway), Rikku, Yuna, Paine, Judge Gabranth, a plush Vivi, Cactuar, and Moogle. I've got a set of Tetra Master cards from IX, every single character from X as a keyring, a replica of Squall's pendant from VIII, numerous strategy guides and art books from VII, VIII, and IX, including some in Japanese that I can't even read.

It's all in a box collecting dust.

I also have some Persona art books which I really like.

@KALofKRYPTON I have that little Lara from Temple of Osiris, too! She's on my desk right now, alongside a LEGO Indiana Jones and a nice figure of a Crystal Skull alien on his golden throne. It's my "dusty adventure" corner, and not just because I haven't dusted in a while.

There was a time when I got Collector's Editions, because I was buying so few games, keeping myself focused to the franchises I loved and not branching out. I'm talking the big ones with the statues and whatnot. The two I don't regret are Batman: Arkham Origins (and since I'm in a PAL territory, we got the superior statue of Batman holding the Joker over a ledge, rather than the NTSC version which was just the Joker alone) and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (which came with a limited edition Play Arts Kai figure of cyborg Raiden in white armour).

It was about a year afterwards that I realised that, okay, the statues / figures were nice on display and all, but I never looked at the art books and never did get around to framing the lithographs like I said I would, etc. and that almost all of my joy from those £100+ boxes came from playing the game... which I could've got for £40 instead, and wouldn't have come in a steelbook which didn't match everything else on my shelf. So I stopped.

Of course, I still see the odd release which makes my inner nerd collector lash out at the wall of reason and logic I've built around him, but most of the time the components are available separately if I really want them, or there's a superior figure or statue being made by somebody else, so I'll go find it, look at it, maybe even buy it, and the wall remains standing.

I do like how some games come in artbook cases, like Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition and Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Anniversary Edition. Sometimes I'll avoid them, though, because quite often games that promise to come with a small artbook alongside the box, like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, are just offering a lower-resolution re-print of what's in the full-sized artbook, which I've usually already got.

There was also a lucky escape that made me think twice. After seeing how gorgeous the components of the Arkham Origins release were, I very nearly pre-ordered the Batman: Arkham Knight - Batmobile Edition, which promised to come with a fully-transforming model of the in-game Batmobile... except it never did. Apparently, the prototype for the model was developed late and was of such poor quality that WB Interactive cancelled the entire release at the last minute. They left it up to individual retailers to spread the news, a day before launch, and so there were a good number of gamers waiting for non-existent, incredibly-expensive parcels. I know it's likely an isolated incident, but ever since I've wanted to limit my risk. If my playing of a new game is gonna be delayed by all the extra stuff, I'd rather just grab a regular copy and settle in for the launch day evening.

Yeah I thought this was about Gaming Tatoos too 😂!

I don’t own too many gaming related items.
I have a framed Uncharted 4 poster (~120cm in height), Kingdom Hearts Collectors pins, Disgaea 5 sound track, but my prized possession has to be my Persona 5 Steelbook.

I’ll be purchasing my first collectors edition later in the month as I’ve preordered the Yakuza 6 After Hours Premium Edition- which I’m very excited for! Not in the least because I broke my ‘drinking’ glasses a few weeks ago.
I think if more ‘gaming tat’ had an actual function/use I’d buy more .

@RogerRoger My desk junk consists of a little light up Enterprise I got from Waterstones - which is far nicer a thing than it has any right to be at £8!

I remember the Arkham Knight debacle - it was rather a shame as I had a couple of friends who'd ordered it. Though after the [insert correct Arkham game name here] crappy resin batarang should've put them off that.

@Kidfried As for music stuff. I do have the P4 Dancing All Night Disco Fever Edition with the soundtrack. And the Shantae Half Genie Hero Risky Beats Edition - though they were purchased more for the Vita physical copy than the stuff. And for the good cause of the Axiom Verge Multiverse Edition

@get2sammyb at least it's useful tat!

@johncalmc Haven't really seen much FF7 tat. My mate had a few of the Advent Children figures and Cloud's bike though. That was pretty nice.

@KALofKRYPTON There's quite a bit. They released a series of action figures alongside FFVII - from memory, all the party members - and then later they released bigger, more intricate versions of Cloud, Tifa, Vincent, and Sephiroth alongside Advent Children. There were also smaller versions of the main cast that were some sort of Coca Cola promotion, and a bunch of other rubbish. Long story short; I have a lot of it.

@KALofKRYPTON Ah, the other corner of my desk has a Diamond Select USS Excelsior (the bridge of which gets a push more often than it should) and some Eaglemoss overspill from my starship shelves. Great minds!

Arkham Asylum had the batarang and yeah, it was pretty shocking (didn't get it myself, but saw it in a shop display once and laughed at the price tag they'd put on it). Arkham City got a black-and-white Batman statue that I've always heard good things about, but was never tempted to get. The statue from Arkham Origins is incredible, a definite favourite. It's alongside the statue I got from the Batman V Superman Collector's Edition Blu-Ray and will never go into storage.

Arkham Knight did deliver the less-expensive edition with the Batman statue, but it was made of cheap plastic which light shone through in places. Such a step-down in quality from a franchise that seemed to be improving each time. Bullet dodged.

@RogerRoger Nice. I'd like to bring the TOS Bluetooth Communicator to work to get more use out of it - but there's no chance in hell I'd take it or anything else of actual (commercial or sentimental) value there.
The little enterprise is by Running Press. As I say, for the price it's a decent little thing. They do a Galileo too that looks alright.
They're releasing a Next Gen Tricorder soon. I might get that.

As for game tat... I still have the Heavy Rain origami and a few shmup gashapon...

I only have a few things like that cause honestly I don't care for that stuff. Don't gete wrong some of it's nice but honestly it's just more stuff that just collects dust in the end. With that said I do have a few things.

A Street Fighter X Tekken Mini Arcade Bank — Got it from pre-ordering Street Fighter X Tekken it's pretty nice and solid it's probably the only thing I have like that that I use since it holds my loose change.

A mini Winston figure — Got that from pre-ordering Overwatch

WoW: Cataclysm, and Mist of Pandaria Collectors Editions. Got them mainly for the art books because well to be honest I though they looked cool. Also got it for the in game goodies which IIRC were mounts and pets.

@KALofKRYPTON Ah, I'm deliberately keeping myself from buying any more starship models, since I have a hundred Eaglemoss and Diamond Select models in my apartment already (in addition to tons of LEGO, Play Arts Kai and other nifty little nerd things). It's a self-intervention!

All of my most-loved franchises have their own shelf. To keep it gaming-related, I have a Metal Gear shelf which is pretty cool. The centre-pieces are the two Metal Gears, REX and RAY, from Guns of the Patriots, made by Japanese company threeA and then the aforementioned Play Arts Kai are dotted around them (Battle Dress Snake from Peace Walker, White Raiden from Revengeance, Ground Zeroes Snake and Stealth Suit Venom Snake, D-Dog and Skull Face, all from The Phantom Pain) as well as Micro Yamaguchi RevolMini figures of Solid Snake and the Cyborg Ninja from Metal Gear Solid and a Medicom 20th Anniversary Raiden from Sons of Liberty.

I don't dust very often. Mostly because it takes me a full day.

One thing I forgot to mention about gaming tat you get bundled in with some games was bonus steelbooks. Last year, pre-ordering regular copies of WipEout: Omega Collection and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus from GAME landed me a fancy steelbook case in addition to a sealed copy of each game. That's great and all, but now I've got two random steelbooks sitting empty somewhere and, even if I had used them to store the disc, I'd have to empty Blu-Ray boxes sitting in the same place. It's like a reversible cover taken to the extreme, and just made me laugh. "Here's one disc and two different boxes for it! Um... yay?"

@KALofKRYPTON I know, right?! So did I. When they gave it to me, my confusion was obviously visible, because the shop assistant quickly reassured me that it was okay to take it. She was all, "You paid for this, it's okay!"

I have a Mr Drippy plushie from Ni No Kuni and I've donned him with a velcro N7 fabric patch from Mass Effect so he's now Commander Drippy. I've also have Oliver's spellbook from NNK which is really well made and still has that new book smell.
