@DennisReynolds Halo MCC was supposed to have campaign crossplay, but they only implemented it in Halo 3 and ODST (technically still in Beta). If they couldn't make crossplay a thing on Microsoft platforms (Xbox and PC) then porting the whole of MCC to a different platform while also implementing crossplay with that platform is probably too difficult for them. Not to mention the fact that getting new contractors who know how to work with Unreal 5 is most certainly easier than teaching them how MCC works.
I may buy a PS6 for this. It's been a minute since the last full-fledged big budget stealth-action game. MGSV is the last one, if not counting Dishonored 2, which is something a bit different.
I think they should release the MGS Collection Vol. 2 with MGS4 in it. I personally don't care much for Konami remakes unless they're MGS (soft spot for everything stealth action).
@Rich33 it seems to be quite excellent safe for performance. If they can improve it, it will definitely be a GOTY contender
MGS Delta day one, Konami is singlehandedly keeping stealth action alive with Ubisoft still quiet on the Splinter Cell Remake and IOI pivoting into more action with 007.
The only thing preventing me from playing this on console, which is my preferred device, is the fact that you can't rebind keyboard keys. A game like this should have full KBM support in my opinion, as several games do, like Call of Duty.
343 couldn't get crossplay between PC and Xbox for campaigns to work (Halo 3 and ODST campaign crossplay still "experimental" since March 2022, ) so I hope they can finally fully implement it for all platforms when it gets ported everywhere.
Lock the 120fps by any means necessary. Upscale it to 1800p instead of 4K. Yes, VRR smooths it out and makes the framedrops unnoticeable. What is noticeable however is the loss of fluidity and the added sluggishness when moving the camera etc. If they aren't offering one "Pro" mode, then have a separate Performance 120fps option. The resolution war is over, right? Now deliver locked 120fps.
@riceNpea Why not? It has better VRR support, even now, after Sony implemented it on its console. It has better support for older games, because they can enance them without needing patches to be made by the developers (FPS Boost (sadly discontinued), AutoHDR), it has Quick Resume (which reportedly has issues with backwards copaible titles, but otherwise works well with new games). Smart Delivery was a good solution to the cross-gen release problem as long as the publisher supported it.
I think the way PS5 handles SSD memory is better, because it doesn't have to rely on approved manufacturers to develop expansion cards, it supports any SSD.
Of course none of that matters if the software on offer isn't very good, but if Xbox delivered the games, all of these hardware and OS features would be a great icing on the cake.
I thought this game had an unlocked frame rate mode that ran at around 80-100fps. Why is the pro only providing a 60fps mode? 120 seems perfectly doable
I'd like to see how new games, particularly running on UE5 look compared to the base model. If Wu-Kong or Dragon's Dogma 2 run at 60fps in fidelity mode with no blurry messy upscaling then that price point is adequate. But running games that already had good performance modes in a "pro" mode isn't really impressive. Last of Us 2 having a "pro" mode is probably the worst way to market this. It's a PS4 game for crying out loud.
@get2sammyb Remember the good old days of live service games? Say, around 2003, when Rockstar Games added extra maps to a game mode in Max Payne 2? Or how Raven Software added bonus multiplayer maps to Jedi Academy. Some of the best live service games ever released.
This might be a crazy idea for the staff here, but free game updates/patches that add extra content have existed before the term "life service" even existed. This update doesn't have anything to do with "life service" because we all now what that actually means - a persistent online connection that allows for developers to tweak the game, often server-side without even having to change anything on the side of the client. It also entails constant collection of player data to analyze and improve the game. None of that is happening here.
There's a certain difference between people getting replaced by machines at the conveyor belt and actors, writers, musicians being made redundant. I prefer a fully voiced game with real actors but at some point it won't be possible to tell a difference. It's a little alarming for sure.
I am as far removed from WRPGs as possibly can be. I enjoyed Risen 1 the most because it felt almost like an immersive sim (learning skills and upgrading weapon was done in-universe and not in a menu screen). This is the first WRPG that really got my attention since then. The platforms are officially still not announced, but it's safe to say it's coming to PC and PS5.
Starfield doesn't have MTX, Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't have them. No pass shall be given anymore, especially if a game is supposed to be a GOTY-contender.
Yes, a Ubisoft game like the recent Avatar has MTX despite being single-player and few if any people highlight it in reviews. But at the end of the day Avatar has a 72 Metascore and will not be remembered or considered to be anything better than your standard Ubi-romp.
If Capcom wants to be in the big league, they need to step it up.
@wildcat_kickz Why would you roll your eyes? People have different standards, for some the bare minimum of 30fps isn't enough, however nobody's forcing anyone to boycot 30fps games.
@MattBoothDev used standard edition + buying the dlc will be cheaper than this 60$ "gold" edition. There's no significance to this release if the DLC isn't on disc
The fact that Harley says something about "emotional damage" done by Batman to people around him really exposes that whoever wrote this is just a mid wit who wants to dismantle everything good and righteous and replace it with this morally grey self aware "relatable" puke.
I don't even really like Batman games that much but his character in the mythos is almost that of a religious figure that casts aside his normal life, friends, love, only to help people. And the problem with him is that he was mean?
Look up writing credits for the "writers". AC Valhalla, Thief 2014, more putrid *****.
@Terra_Custodes I am talking about MGS2 and MGS3. MGS1 is a completely different case as it is emulated rather than running natively. It looks good on Duckstation because it uses fan-made technology that eliminates PS1 wobbling. That is a good technology but it changes the look and the aesthetic of the game. Would be a "nice to have" feature, I agree.
Also MGS1 does have depth of field and motion blur effects. They even happen to be broken in the PC port sold on GOG.
@Terra_Custodes If you play at 4K using an emulator, you lose all of the post-processing effects like depth of field. If you mod the PC version of the collection to run at a higher resolution, you get the same result.
@Orpheus79V That doesn't mean they shouldn't push for higher def. It means that they weren't able to get them to run at 4K - because these are very probably being emulated rather than running natively which in itself is already an issue. They're charging for it - they might as well actually port the games instead of having them run through an emulation layer. An since they're emulating - they could've gone for the actual PS2 versions that have more content than HD collection. It just doesn't seem like a good product.
FYI HD Collection already downgraded both MGS2 and 3 a little bit in the effects department, you can look up comparisons with original games.
Not to mention the fact that both games had certain sections removed like the skating minigame in MGS2 and Secret Theater, Snake vs. Monkey and the slasher dream sequence in MGS3.
To top it all off, seeing it running at 720p is mind-boggling, this is also coming to PC. Surely they aren't expecting people to play it at such resolution on top of the line hardware. If the PC version will be configurable to run at 4K, then it'll be a slap in the face of the console players.
@XboxTheBestBox In case of RDR, it received a resolution boost, whereas MGSHD runs at 720p. The PS5 port will most likely run at 4K. However Xbox has the Peace Walker HD version.
I think the bigger problem of GZ was that it was tightly designed and incredibly polished. Phantom Pain felt like a grindfest with a few interesting missions sprinkled across 70 or so hours.
On one hand the lack of faith in creating new IP and the overreliance on nostalgia is concerning, on the other, we're possibly seeing a stealth-action renaissance with the big three (Ubi-SplinterCell, Konami-MGS, IOI-Hitman) coming in to create Single-Player stealth games. Finally.
@Jaz007 https://youtu.be/XfJpSeit3zI?t=926 "We would like to make sure that the entire game playable from beginning to end without a single kill, if at all possible."
@LifeGirl the very first Splinter Cell allowed that as well, there was one character that had to be killed due to the story but the system otherwise supported non-lethal playthrough.
