Re: Mini Review: Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (PS1) - Force Pushes the Adventure into Action Adventure

This game gives me a rush of nostalgia. Spent hours into it more than 2 decades ago. It was notoriously difficult for me at that time and there was one area where I was perpetually stuck. Never made it to the end.

And yet when it made it to PS Premium this month, couldn't stop myself playing it again. Rewind feature made life a thousand times easier. The platforming is as difficult as I remember it to be.

What a bummer! And there's virtually no information about what kind of improvement we're going to see in the next iteration. Big Ant Studio website does not even appears to have an official page for the game. I was thinking maybe once the game is released in June, would get to see some actual gameplay and make up my mind. I even got rid of my copy of Cricket 22 in anticipation of 24's June release.

Cricket 22 was a decent one. But the game is so far behind other big budget sports titles, I doubt incremental updates will do much good here. Commentary is horrendous and fielding animations leave a lot to be desired. But since there’s hardly any alternative out there for cricket fans, it’s more of a hobson’s choice. Bring it on!

@nathanSF I tried the 5 hours trial this month on PS5, and loved what I saw. This was a breathtakingly beautiful world and it immediately pulled me in. Admittedly, I never played it on launch and not aware of the breadth of problems it faced then. But where it stands now, it offers immense playground to newcomers. The kind of effort put into this must be phenomenal since I can sense a lot of behind-the-stage world-building here.

@Mythologue Indeed, the lines have blurred between generations now. For someone who started gaming during 8-bit era, my mind is conditioned to see clear boundaries with generational jumps. For now, I would settle for native 4K with ray-tracing and 60fps 😄. But apparently that's too much for PS5 to handle right now.

I think character models and general graphics reached a stage during the PS4 Pro days, which was sufficient to deliver impactful gaming experience.
