Really wish they would have stuck with, or at least added, the canine companion for Ellie. I know it would have been a huge pain and not necessarily added anything, and the dogs made the combat feel more frantic, but I really wanted to walk around the apocalypse with a doggo friend.
Doubt this impacts Forbidden West much, like Sammy says it would reason that the story is pretty much done. Talent moves on all the time, hard to argue with someone wanting to be on the ground floor of a new studio with AAA dreams, especially in a city like Barcelona. Good luck to him and whoever takes over for him at Guerilla!
@AdamNovice I have to think Microsoft understands their mistake with the last event, and they've said as much, so I expect we will see something pretty impressive on the 23rd. Whether it matches what Sony has or not is yet to be seen, but based on Phil Spencer's interviews of late, I don't think they feel any pressure of a make or break situation.
This generation could see two winners really, as they are both going in somewhat opposite directions. I truly think Microsoft could sell half the consoles that Sony does and be quite happy if they have millions of people signed up for Gamepass and playing their games on PC or eventually through XCloud.
Playing Little Nightmares to prep for an article, so good! Never played the DLC so that is a treat as well. Will play Subnautica and Outer Wilds at some point too
Playing Habroxia on Vita right now, great little game!
Haven't played anything else since finishing TLoU2 on Tuesday morning, been busy writing articles about it!
I just bought Subnautica on the Steam Summer Sale so I'm excited to jump into that, and actually thinking of firing up the NES Classic for a bit of retro fun.
@Gamer83 The quote was "a new kind of story", not "one of a kind story".
I could be wrong but I believe he meant new for them, as all of their other games have been significantly more lightweight fare, or that had happy endings like the first game.
@LiamCroft amen to that, Dina was my favorite new character in the game. That reminds me, I saw a lot of people complaining about the quality of the writing, not the story but the dialogue and what not. I thought this was the most natural dialogue and realistically written characters in any game I've ever played. Just one of many criticisms of the game I don't understand I suppose.
Everyone here makes great points, glad to see people taking a reasoned and balanced approach. My only question as I didn't see it mentioned, when Ellie leaves the farm, do you think she is going to Jackson to ask Dina for forgiveness, or just wandering off to restart her life?
I took the last conversation with Joel to mean that she was going to ask Dina to forgive her, like she was going to try to forgive Joel. She realized she had lost everything, leaving the guitar behind meant she was leaving all the horrible things in her old life behind and trying to start fresh with Dina.
It upsets me to no end that we have raised a generation to think that they can get anything they want if they just complain loudly enough and continue to "ask for the manager", metaphorically speaking
@JohnGrey No doubt, those games are derivative and repetitive and soul sucking, but they pay for the better experiences so I am glad they happen as well, Sony definitely needs those to do it's duty to the shareholders. I think we have all gotten to the point where you are now, I've been in gaming about as long as you (Atari 2600!!) and everyone gets burned out sometimes.
To me, the type of game isn't as important as the story, so I could play 15 open world games but if one comes along with a great story, I'm all in. But I see what you mean, there aren't a ton of new ideas out there, just different twists and stories at times.
Hopefully with Shuhei running the indie side of the shop now, we will see Sony get back to supporting those studios and some different, new ideas will result.
@JohnGrey completely understand, I appreciate you expounding on your thoughts! I enjoy getting all sides of an issue, makes me a better writer I definitely agree, if you're looking for something truly new, there wasn't a lot of it. There's old formulas done in new ways for sure (Deathloop is a good example) but not too many new game ideas. Sadly I don't think there is a lot of proof that new and different pays the bills. Dreams is that, and while it looks like it will be successful in the long run, it's going to be a slog. The annual sports and COD entries selling millions just reinforces it for Sony, and I can't blame them for it, but for gamers like you wanting a new experience, they are few and far between.
@get2sammyb completely agree! I used to think it was the anonymity of it, but clearly everyone is themselves online these days, so it isn't that. It's knowing that there are no consequences for what they say. I don't mean legal consequences, more like knowing they won't get punched in the face like they would if they said some of this vile stuff to someone on the street.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Petition Demands Dramatic Story Alterations
I don't get the GoT Season 8 comparison. Will save that for the spoiler thread though lol

@JohnGrey
I always ask people this when they are upset, what could they have showed that would have changed your opinion?
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 327
Fallen Order on the PS, and Command & Conquer Remastered on PC!!!
