I have always thought that the ‘it’s free advertising for the game itself’ was bs and it seems from this man’s experience that is the case.

It’s not a shadow drop if the company ‘leaks’ most of the info for months in advance.

@themightyant I think it’s a glass half full or half empty type situation - is it bad that the game is no longer being supported or good that PS4 users were able to enjoy parity with the current generation for sixteen months? And how many of those remaining players will be upgrading systems before the game shuts down anyway? The old approach to console generations is being replaced by a cross generation model, and that is going to really benefit some people including those on low incomes, but it also means there will be more games finding themselves in a similar position to this in the future so we best get used to it.

@themightyant those players will have still enjoyed sixteen months of game time, they were not obligated to pay for any season passes and the announcement has been made in good time to ensure those users can make an informed choice on whether to spend more. The developer has also given a sound reason as to why it is necessary, I don’t think it’s fair on all of those people who bought a PS5 to be told they will not be able to enjoy an improved game because a very small number of players are able to afford micro transactions but can’t afford to upgrade their decade old console.

@themightyant honestly don’t see a problem - they have had sixteen months of gameplay, at minimal cost if any, on a system that is now a decade old. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for the developer to want to put the needs of the majority of gamers ahead of the needs of a select few.

Seems reasonable enough and, all things considered, sixteen months feels like a good return.

Is this really a 9/10 or was the review made overly positive due to the exclusive access and interviews the developer gave this site in the run up to release? I have played most of these puzzlers over the years, they are decent but I wouldn’t have expected Arise to be as big an improvement over those as this review would suggest. I guess I will find out if I give the game a go at some point.

These look nice, I think premium quality items like this are a lot more worthwhile than £5 in discounts here and there.

There is just something creepy and weird about the way these Chinese and Saudi companies do business in the gaming industry that puts me off buying anything they go near.

@KawakiisaFraud physical media is becoming increasingly irrelevant at this point so I doubt the whole game key cards drama will have any long term impact.

I thought Ronaldo in Fatal Fury was as cringe as things could get but then I see them funding an entire Saudi dlc for a two year old game and I realise there new lows to be discovered.

Nice looking controller - much better than the garish designs you see so much of these days. This is one controller I wouldn’t feel embarrassed by every time I used it.

I have been collecting physical games for decades and even I can see the time has come to move on and go digital - I will still buy Evercade carts and Nintendo’s first party stuff for as long as they keep doing it but for everything else it’s time to accept it and embrace all the positives digital has to offer.

@tselliot I read the article. What happens when I recommend this game to a friend five years from now? Can they access the game? No. And that’s simply not good enough. It is companies like Harmonix who are destroying this industry and preservation as a whole but if you want to lick their boots then go ahead.

Used to like Kojima in his Konami days but in the time since he has come across as nothing but an obnoxious and pretentious prat.

Might be worst to some people but for myself there is a lot more I am interested in on that shorter list of new games than there is on the list of everything leaving.

Lots of people saying how much they want it and how they would definitely buy it (at full price no doubt) but Sony know a lot of the chatter and demands online are just talk - if they had any confidence in this selling big they would do it.

Sand Land, STALKER, Story of Seasons, Granblue and Battlefield V - that’s a great selection I have been close to buying for a few months and all coming at once. Very happy.

Battle Engine Aquila is a game I had completely forgotten about! Also looking forward to checking that out again after all of these years.

It sometimes feels like every game gets an 8/10 these days - makes it hard to take these reviews seriously anymore to be honest.

This franchise was one of favourites but I just look at it now and think this has all gotten very silly.

It must really annoy the complainers to see the Switch 2 and MKW on course for another historic launch.

The vapid dialogue is a deal breaker for me - drove me mad the last time I tried to play these games.

At this point I’m sure they are just doing it for the free publicity from sites like this and writers seem happy to give it to them.

It’s like Nintendo are living rent free in the PushSquare headspace at the moment.

People love to say how bad AI art and games look but the technology is only going to continue to improve and projects like this are only the first step.

Shocked that the fighting gaming community is overreacting - it’s so unlike them.

This isn’t 70% of fans, it’s 70% of the users of this site and that is an important distinction. That 70% of PushSquare users represent a good share of a more hardcore audience but it would be a fraction of that number if this included the average PlayStation fan. If there was mainstream interest in these games then Sony would have already made them.

They should probably check the hard drives of anyone who buys this game.

It was fine - I enjoyed it on release but I have no interest in going back to it and I think what Fromsoft are currently doing is a lot more interesting.
