Football’s governing body FIFA promised it would make a new game after EA Sports announced its intention to rebrand, and here it is: the rather predictable FIFA Heroes.
The game will initially launch on mobile, but a press release mentions plans to bring it to “PlayStation” at a later date. It’ll feature full cross-progression across all compatible devices.
As the name implies, this is an arcade-focused free-to-play football game mixing legends of the sport with historical gods.
That means the Hand of God Diego Maradona will go toe-to-toe with Norse God Thor. Mascots from past World Cups will also be playable.

Here’s the official blurb:
“Become a legend in FIFA Heroes. Watch as one of football's greatest ever players, Maradona, enters the pitch to join FIFA World Cup Mascots, fictional heroes, and players from past and present of the world's biggest sporting tournament.
Fast-paced and chaotic 5-a-side games that will get you lacing up your boots as you play with loose rules and wild physics. Unleash superpowers and dominate the game as you master epic skills and unleash worldies into the top bins.
Build your squad of superstars and heroes. Showcase your personality, as you grab your mates to compete for the ultimate standout moments and the W.”
Confirmed real-life footballers so far include:
- Diego Maradona
- Harry Kane
- Jordan Pickford
- Eduardo Camavinga
- Jack Grealish
- Emiliano Martínez
- Lautaro Martínez
To be fair, an arcade-style football game doesn’t seem like a terrible idea – we’ve all wanted a new FIFA Street since the early days of the PS3, right?
This seems like the most predictable direction for FIFA to take the franchise, though, and while we’re sure it’ll pick up a few downloads during this summer’s World Cup, we can’t see it lasting long.
The game will launch on mobile from 28th April, but a PS5 version will apparently follow thereafter.
FIFA previously confirmed a game for Netflix, although that one appears to be a different thing, developed by Californian studio Delphi. FIFA Heroes is being made by a VR team named Enver.
