Re: Talking Point: If Xbox Drops the Cost, Would You Be Happy Still Paying for PS6 Multiplayer?

TheOldHunter4K

Whether paying up front for online play is "taken away" by any platform, they'll reap the money another way, per game will be more expensive for a start.

I'll pay if I have to. Though going forward, the need to do so in my situation is becoming less and less.
And never have I ever paid full price.
Anything less than 30% off I wouldn't consider.

A few comments above reference cost of console Vs higher cost of PC.
Yeah, I paid a good sum for a great gaming rig a few months back, played loads of playstation and Xbox games on it, and haven't paid a penny. At all.

Yo ho yo ho etc

Re: PS6 May Go Uncontested as Rumours of Next-Gen Xbox Cancellation Spiral

TheOldHunter4K

My Series X and PS5 go largely unused for some months now.

2 month old Gaming PC that will still have a better spec than any console released in the next 2 years. And for a significantly lower price too.

If Microsoft pull out, Sony and Nintendo will run rampant with pricing out the players, £800+ consoles wouldn't surprise me one bit. In the near future, significant price rises on Nintendo software that never seems to be on sale anyway, and because of "market/world conditions", the switch 2 will probably leap 50 then 100 in price.

I'm a near 50 year old gamer who's seen it all since the Binatone TV System 3.
And gaming has never been in such an anti gamer state.

So I decided a good while back to keep playing and stop paying.
Cos I'm selfish and I've payed me dues.
Constant price rises on TV premium subs, no more, a 4k fire stick max with real Debrid premium. £26 a year for EVERYTHING, from everywhere.

Games, FitGirl Repacks.

It won't be good for gamers, (paying ones anyway), if any of the big 3 ever pulled out of hardware. Fact. Fanboys of any platform won't admit that of course, but that's just people.

Re: Opinion: The Price of Playing PS5 Games Day One Is Getting Higher and Higher

TheOldHunter4K

As the headline actually mentioned 'day one' and not early access, I find that in my 40+ years of gaming, the price I pay has stayed relatively static for at least the last 15.
Cos I shop around. Always have.
On the PS4, Day one Elden Ring, £40, for example.
£48 for Demons Souls PS5.
Have never paid more than £50 for a game that has been delivered on release day.
And a couple have even been delivered early

Oh and as we are talking day one, Game Pass on me Series X. Which has always been paid for with at least a 30% discount code.

If people are paying full MSRP for anything, and not shopping around, fill yer boots, or actually a retailers coffers.

Paying even more for up to 3 days early access... Well, that's a different breed altogether. Bless 'em.

Re: PS5's Building Insurmountable Lead Over Rival, Outselling Xbox Almost 3:1

TheOldHunter4K

Have both PS5 and Series X.
Both have been rather disappointing compared to the halcyon years, certainly the 360 and the PS4.
Sony has starved us of 1st party games this gen and seems focused on hardware, flashy and great that it is... where are the actual GAMES to show it off.
Microsoft seems to really not know WHAT they want to be, on every other device and abandoning the X so it seems.
Never mind, I got snake II on me 3310 so it's all good. 🐍

Re: Talking Point: Is PS5 Pro Way Too Expensive?

TheOldHunter4K

Well there is one upside to all this...

Remember all those voices that for years since PS5 first launched, have been saying "I'm waiting for the 5Pro, I'm not getting a base 5". (Read that as couldn't get a base 5 during the scalping years, then get all bitter and convinced themselves that the 5 simply wasn't worth getting).

And also "oh, I'll wait until the Pro as it'll play/run/look better then"

Well, here it is.
You wanted it.
You waited for it.

Now push your way to the front of the queue and pay up.

Someone just hit the nail on the bonce.
The Pro is a niche for the hardcore must havers. The Jones keeper uppers and the like.

It'll shift a few million.

The 6, regardless of a very possible £700+ base price will shift 10s of millions.

Re: PS5 Pro Announced, Costs $700 and Out in November

TheOldHunter4K

A few have commented about the price of PS6. If there actually will be a 6, let's see...

Launch prices in £.
Oh, for the pedants, I added on a quid for ease of reading.

PS1 300
PS2 300
PS3 425
PS4 350
4 Pro 350
PS5 450
5 Pro 700

Ok, the original 5 is anomalous as there was a driveless model that was cheaper.

But that is a huge day one price leap, whichever way you slice it.

The initial pattern of prices being close to each other between 4, 4pro and 5, then leap to 700, seems like a PS6 launch of no less than 600. Just 'cos.

With no drive.
Or stand.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Or power lead.

Re: PS5 Pro Announced, Costs $700 and Out in November

TheOldHunter4K

It'll sell, of course it will.
Will it sell out, hmm, yes, maybe so.

But this gives the late 2024 Series X space in the market. And of course, the old 5 will see an uplift. Price alone will dictate.

They simply haven't done enough for such a financial leap.

Ok, the 'new' X doesn't have an upgraded GPU, but the graphical increase are not immediately noticeable to my 47 year old eyes.

This will push more players towards the old 5 who were waiting out, and that price does not kill off the 'new' Xbox.

Factor that in with gamepass, your looking at a present under the tree that's pushing 1000$/£ with an extra controller and a couple of games for someone brand new into the ecosystem.

But if you are thinking of selling your old PS5 to put towards the Pro, I think it'll hold it's price quite well as there is such a large price difference between it, and the Pro.

You know what would be really unsurprising...if they charged 10 to 15$£ for the pro unlocks on existing games.
Not detected by the machine and free to the players, but behind a paywall.

And this is coming from someone who has a day one PS5 and a Series X.

Re: PS5 Pro Showcase Set for Tomorrow, Hosted by Mark Cerny

TheOldHunter4K

The late 2024 Xbox series X 2tb version is £550/$600. Not out yet. Obviously.

And that won't be upgraded at all, just a larger SSD.

So a direct comparison could not be made but Sony will be acutely aware of at least that price 'benchmark'.

If it is indeed a Pro anouncement, and anywhere near that given price, or, say £100 more, the new X box will be DOA for anyone not already in one of those ecosystems.

But don't listen to me, at some point down the line next year, I'll get both, so what the dickens do I know, lol

Re: Preview: Elden Ring Promises a DLC Masterclass in Shadow of the Erdtree

TheOldHunter4K

Absolutely loved Elden Ring, had it day one, got about a third of the way through NG+ but moved onto something or other about 2 months later.

I remember now, I got the Launch Edition from The Game Collection, all the little bits n bobs with it, and got a refund on release day of £5, can't remember why.
So the god knows how many hours enjoyed for a total of £40.

Then I sold it on for £50.

It's been long enough now that I will get it again, and this and the base game still feel fresh.

£40 or less by end of summer.

Re: PS Plus' Higher-Priced Extra, Premium Tiers Command 35% of Overall Subs

TheOldHunter4K

I would like to know what percentage of subscribers actually paid full price.
Cos I never have.
Like someone in a post above, I did a lapse and discount code and so on last year.
Most other times, I've always done some sort of jiggery with it to decrease the price by at least £20+.

Subscriptions/membership published prices are more of a reference or guide I find.
There are ALWAYS ways to bring the prices down, no exceptions.

Re: Next Battlefield Is Being Made By the Series' Largest Ever Team, EA Boasts

TheOldHunter4K

Battlefield 1943.. ah, there was a great game.
Almost seemed like half a game at the time, limited maps etc, but the gameplay was fantastic.
Bad Company 2 if I remember right, had a decent single player with about 4 characters in it.. maybe.
BF 3 and 4 I played a ton of, well over 150 hours each. Lots of maps, AND good fun.
Then 1 and 5 came along, and 5 just seemed, I don't know, boring, lifeless and 2042 seemed worse still.
I always bought them about 2 months after release second hand.
But I STILL hope that the next one goes back to it's former greatness. 🤞🏻

Re: Sony Sings PS Portal's Praises with Accolades Trailer

TheOldHunter4K

I'm very pleased with mine.
Gaming anywhere in the house or garden if I choose.
Got very fast internet with excellent bandwidth and mesh system.
Daughter likes to use it to play PGA Tour from her room. Bless.
Took it to work and streamed a few games to show them, the 2 other people who own PS5s were so impressed they been trying to get one for weeks.

At this very moment, 7:30am, they are available for £199 from Amazon, (not some marketplace seller).

Re: PS Stars Rewards Now Include Top PS5 Games Rise of the Ronin, Helldivers 2, More

TheOldHunter4K

As above, and doing not a lot different than before, not buying any more than I would have digitally, the points add up, I've probably done 3 or 4 £5 PSN codes since it started.
Oh, and if they are giving points just for playing something that is "free", (that I wouldn't even think of purchasing beforehand), I choose the streaming option, then start the game to get the points then delete. Takes 30 seconds.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Dragon's Dogma 2?

TheOldHunter4K

Think it's safe to say that the so far 9% that have voted 4 or below are PS4 salters that don't even have a PS5.
Oh, and bleat on about "waiting" for a PS5 pro, or PS6, or that this game "needs" one of said systems 😁.
By the time I pull me finger out and buy it/trade it, for about £45 to £50 next month, the framerate and all other issues will be sorted and all the chatter about this game will cease like it never existed.
Same went for other what I call tentpole games; Elden Ring, Spiderman 2, Cyberpunk.
Been gaming for 40 years and learnt in the PS3/360 era not to buy day one.
I'm not paying top price to be a beta tester.

Re: Unlock a Free 12 Months of PS Plus Premium with PlayStation's Visa Credit Card

TheOldHunter4K

From the small print...

"Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for Purchases 19.24%, 25.24%, or 27.99%, based upon your creditworthiness.
This APR will vary with the market based on the Prime Rate.
APR for Balance Transfers 26.99%.
APR for Cash Advances 28.99%.
This APR will vary with the market based on the Prime Rate."

And that was buried deep in the Ts & Cs.

In the UK credit card providers have to be front and centre with rates.

Guess the US banking regulations are a little more lax.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 517

TheOldHunter4K

On about chap 10 of RE4 on PS5, probably won't be finished by the time Rebirth drops on the doormat, what with the Separate Ways and Mercs extras. All good though, I don't mind it sitting on the shelf for a while.
It might even be a patch or 2 in before I start it up.
A bargain at the £20 of me own money spent as I got a £50 Amazon voucher from work in the new year.

Re: Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Out for PS5, PS4 on 21st June 2024

TheOldHunter4K

Loved Elden Ring, absolutely, love all the Soulsbornes, paid £45 for Elden Ring, day one, then sold it on for £40, a couple of months later after completing it and doing the mopping up.
£35 for DLC though, hmm, I'll get it again in a GOTY type thing aways down the line.
But I am quite sure that Shadow will be top notch, the Old Hunters DLC was quite possibly the best of the PS4 era.
