Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for June 2025?

Slideaway1983

@AndyKazama in my case I bought it in the past, so had to go firebreak by default. But you are right. Katamari had been a go to game since PS2 for me, and its a relaxing game in general and yet quite difficult to master.

I understand that its also one of those people will look at and immediately dismiss because of graphics / gameplay etc - its very much a marmite game unfortunately.

Re: Here's Fighting Game Fan Maximilian Dood's Viral Reaction to PS5, PC's New Marvel Fighter

Slideaway1983

@themightyant I'm just jumping in to say I agree with the over reactive nature of stuff like this... it puts me off being parts of "communities" and drives my "engagement" levels down on social media and with creators... if someone just came out with a "boring" video, saying what they expect / anticipate and say "looks cool" or similar, then im more on board - not this overhyped stuff that just comes across as very cringe worthy. And yes, I also agree with the click bait methods used such as the thumbnails; i see one like that and i skip it immediately.

Maybe im old, I don't know about you; but this place "for everyone" (the internet) is too full of attention seeking people. I'm sure when Berners-Lee set this alight, he thought to himself: "can't wait until viral videos of edge lords screaming into microphones are invented; that'll teach the people who like information" 🤣

Re: The First of SEGA's Retro Revival Games Is Looking Sick as Hell

Slideaway1983

@Dragoon1994 yep I agree it doesn't say otherwise, so fingers crossed for you.

I'll put in a preorder like I said for switch and if I spot an Asian import somewhere I'll nab that instead.

I've been burned enough by LRG now to know to always check VGP / PlayAsia etc to double check there's not another release elsewhere as you still pay 20% tax anyway for imports.

Re: Borderlands 4 Boss Writes Grovelling Apology for Implying 'Real Fans' Will Pay $80 for PS5 Game

Slideaway1983

@Hundred_Hand_Slap no problem. I wasn't sure if you were being pedantic or was a serious question, so I answered in generalised terms in case it could prove useful.

At the end of the day, we'll always be "conned" as we are those at the end of the chain that pay the aggregated totals (except for loss leaders in supermarkets, which are there to attract footfall, and more money spent - there's a whole psychology in that - look it up if you're unsure!).

But yeah... if you were to say, keep ducks, chickens etc like my step grandparents did in the garden, it's not a bad thing, as its free Sunday/ Easter/ Xmas dinner) - unless you were my mom and got emotionally attached to said animals haha. You literally fed them through "war knowledge" just your standard grain etc (as i say these are very basic things I remember). But you knew what was in them when it came to eating them.

I don't know if it's available (or if you can tolerate him) in CA, but have a look at (Jeremy) Clarkson's Farm on Amazon Prime. There's still "dumb" set pieces, but it's gone some way into the general understanding of farming alone in the UK, such as costing running a farm (in a very sped up way, mind, because he can afford it).

With regards to games though, I'm of the opinion that we've had it very good since the SNES etc when I remember Donkey Kong country being like 70 quid over here (if I remember right, thats 140 CAD without inflation adjustment). Unfortunately the popularity of the original PS was a boon in that it drove (disc based) games down in price, but also a curse as its led to essentially a monopoly in the industry (nintendo are my faves, and do their own thing, and at least 1 gen behind, so I don't count them in a way) meaning that whatever can be charged.

Another way to think about that though is if they were to charge say 200CAD, there would still be people that just wait for a deep sale, or go physical... as we are all generally of the assumption they're banking on all digital, any company must balance the price right for additional profit, or it will drive people back to flash discounts on physical anyway... which is not what they want at the end of the day.

Too much now anyway... plenty more can be said but that enough as I'm putting my mario kart lego set together 🤣

Re: Borderlands 4 Boss Writes Grovelling Apology for Implying 'Real Fans' Will Pay $80 for PS5 Game

Slideaway1983

@Hundred_Hand_Slap unfortunately, you have to take on the supply chains profits, as well as operating costs.

If everything was literally farm to table; you'd still pay agricultural costs; let alone middle men (and potentially middle men of middle men), logistics such as drivers pay, fuel, electricity at processing plants (even if vegetables are washed) etc.

I'm not fully into the ins and outs, but the more bumps there are in the road for our "convenience", the higher it will always be.

Same goes with if you want "good meat" as opposed to processed, or low quality. You pay for what you get.

Some farm shops here in the UK can seem high in price, but in some cases at least you can actually go and see the animals before they turn into a tasty burger at home 🤣

Re: Sony Studio Insomniac Inviting Interns to Cut Their Claws on Marvel's Wolverine for PS5

Slideaway1983

My work experience: because I was a moody working class teen that quite frankly cba, my history teacher got my placement with her friend at the archives service. Was cool to an extent with the old microfilm readers and stuff but as it was a subsidy of the library very quiet... one day I literally fell asleep at the desk sorting local photos back in order in a physical file.

Otherwise, I had my first taste of the Internet and remember reading about f1 a lot that week and understanding what bargeboards are (thanks to the brew haha over Schumacher and Irvine that weekend)... it was the first time i realised the intricacies of f1 being more than just going fast and crashing and started my love of it, from a pastime. History... a little less so, so I know how to use index cards 🤣

Re: Poll: Do You Care About the Death of PlayStation Stars?

Slideaway1983

@Kidfunkadelic83 had to love the challenges like say (this is not a real one) "Into the void", then you basically had to boot up every plus game to figure out what the heck they were on about - there were some very vague descriptions that seemed like they were written by some insane genius, just to get say 50p of credit 🤣

Re: Finally, a Line of Physical PS5 Games Where the Packaging Is Beautiful and the Full Experience Is Actually on the Disc

Slideaway1983

@K1LLEGAL same - was all over the switch ones until i saw the prices; especially the "EDITION"... um... editions. I generally go by if it rates 75 out of 100 or higher I'll consider physical, 80 or higher it's a guaranteed purchase... but at (I checked last night, so like a song says; I could be wrong, i could be right) £180, it's too much to justify for me personally.

More power to people who have more disposable income, or can afford that though.

Re: Xbox's Forza Horizon 5 Is Selling Extraordinarily Well on PS5, Surpasses 1.2 Million Copies Since Launch

Slideaway1983

@thefourfoldroot1 fair enough! Completely understood and I misread (or believed what i wanted) into your situation 🤣

But yeah I know what you mean having so many games on the go. I'm a serial "player and hour and ditch them" kinda guy. Sometimes never go back but it's my money wasted. Sometimes some games are just way too complex for my adhd 🤣🤣🤣

Re: Xbox's Forza Horizon 5 Is Selling Extraordinarily Well on PS5, Surpasses 1.2 Million Copies Since Launch

Slideaway1983

@thefourfoldroot1 personally I have disposable income and owned it in the past on Xbox. I'm an arcade racer first and rpg second, and it's took up most of my time compared to Clair unfortunately. But it's still a damn good game. I remembered I liked it, but didn't remember how much!

If you have the willpower, more power to you for holding out; you won't regret it once you get past the 6.9 quadrillion icons at the map at once (and learn to use filter!), and for a lower price compared to time played - bargain for you!

Re: State of Play Presents Borderlands 4 Deep Dive on PS5 Pro

Slideaway1983

@zhoont moze- my main in bl3 and the only good reason for me to play as I overboosted.

Forgot all about the direct, and I'm a bit sad there's no similar character if true, but I'm a bl player through and through, good times and bad and I'm sure I'll find a main that I love eventually.

I think sticking to 4 to begin with is fine - any more will blatantly come with the directors cut etc, and I'm fine with that, as its been the standard of bl now for a while.

Re: PS5 Price Increases Announced by Sony, Immediately Affects UK, Europe, and More

Slideaway1983

@GeeEssEff well if you don't like astrobot, why bother with a game when you can get it without? 🤣🤣🤣

But yeah... I'm just glad I already have mine either way. Time will tell how this impacts sales. In 2 months time I'll be playing mario kart world for a very long time, if it's better than MK8D, so my ps5 may end up on sale used if it gets no love and maybe I can help someone out getting one at a "reasonable" price come Christmas.

There's a few admittedly very stupid reasons I've thought of though, and they're both very unlikely and extremely optimistic!

1) maybe they're putting the price up to build a war chest of sorts to keep ps6 prices down in the future.
2) As said above yesterday, maybe they're just trying to claw the money back from concord.
3) they've done this to put the price down at Xmas to make it look better to those not in the know that it's cheaper than switch 2 at that time of year.

As I say... very optimistic and stupid; but this gen, who knows what they are thinking. With the lack of transparency, any dumb thing you can think of is on the table.🤣

Re: PS5 Price Increases Announced by Sony, Immediately Affects UK, Europe, and More

Slideaway1983

@GeeEssEff fair cop. I obviously misremembered the original RRP, and I never factored in the increase in plus, or various tiers (but I guess you can knock one of those off, because Now was cancelled as a named service).

Oh yeah and Dual Senses have gone up, haven't they? You are definitely right, then 🤣

And for the record, it may have been a release deal but I think my friend got a slim with an optical drive (because I am the tech support in my group, and saw the writing on the wall when the slim price was announced) For around £430 with no games,; so yes, it was cheaper than my fat, but they had to factor in even minimal increases perhaps for a controller, as they were already a plus subscriber from PS4.

Re: Microsoft Short Changes Indiana Jones PS5 by Only Putting 20GB on the Blu-ray

Slideaway1983

@_John_Doe_ @_John_Doe_ @x3King84 I think there's pros and cons. I mean yeah digital is easier distributed, but at a far worse cost in regards to emissions and actual cost to our wallets.

Whereas physical could in a way be sorted by shipping over time.... the problem now is al.ost everything has to hit targets for sale for q4 earnings blah blah... but you know... you could ship a lot like the good old days on more efficient boats, or even manufacture closer to home. Nothing is ever ideal, unfortunately.

I agree with the CIAB or even as a switch 2 adopter these game keys now. At least you can sell them on... but like what is the environmental differential of a key card as opposed to a cartridge? Obviously some, but you can't tell me for arguments sake a 2mb flash memory being written uses a substantial amount of carbon less than a 64gb. How many would you have to sell to make it valid?!

Seems we're all clamouring for sustainability and value, yet no one has found a definitive idea yet... other than just going back to SNES / MD style and hope the batteries carry on working, and do away with disks and online games 🤣 i mean, how many games could you get on something the size of an old ps memory card now, with regards to plastic? Never gonna happen, but all these what ifs and we can't even decide on a format. Or at least I can't as I'm arguing with myself 🤣🤣🤣

@_John_Doe_ i don't recall advocating pro digital. I just said it was more convenient? And I personally don't like steak, so give me the water anyway 🤣

Re: Microsoft Short Changes Indiana Jones PS5 by Only Putting 20GB on the Blu-ray

Slideaway1983

@x3King84 isn't an always on server for a storefront still quite anti-green? Tbh, I don't like digital (though it is convenient), but servers all over the world for storefronts, MP etc are about as anti eco friendly as you can get.

I'm not arguing with you by the way. We've got no option with today's always online shtick.. but you can have relatively "green" physical options as well including shipping. It's just the infrastructure never moved that way rapidly enough, whereas online gaming did.

Re: Mini Review: Blue Prince (PS5) - A Deceptively Deep Puzzler That Delights and Confounds

Slideaway1983

Been playing those since it came out now, and it's a hard one to.explain. I tried to to my friend but apparently my synopsis was "less than glowing" 🤣

It is indeed a slow burner, but the satisfaction from even figuring out that you've unlocked something is nice. It's a nice, cozy game and a little.eerie.

Think a more child friendly (in a way) cluedo (or clue, for the americans) meets inscryption. If that was your bag. You'll love this.

Re: Poll: PS5 Fans, Are You Sold on the Nintendo Switch 2?

Slideaway1983

Regarding replacement, I do need to see more.

I don't play as many games as I used to, and spend far too much of what time I have with the PS5, and not switch.

If things like borderlands 4 runs well on the switch 2, I can see myself selling the PS5 ad this gen has been a disaster with regards to SP games I've enjoyed.

In recent years, GoW, FF16 have been the main 2 for me, along with GT7, and still crawling through Horizon as much as I like the look of it. Mist recent game I enjoyed was 2 point museum.

I'm not into last of us and soulslike, so been pretty sparse... I'm just glad with the upgrade paths on switch I still haven't played the zeldas. As now I can get the ultra turbo boost razzmatazz HD special limited edition- edition 🤣

Re: PS5 Pro's Graphics Will Get Even Better in 2026

Slideaway1983

I may be completely wrong, but this being announced seems a slightly underhanded way of admitting the (relatively) low sales of PS5 (yes - i know it has actually sold well), with certain gamers hanging onto their PS4s.

It just seems that (dwindling technological advances aside) they are trying to push the PS5 Pro up to as good of parity as possible, knowing that most probably a good proportion of pro users may not upgrade to 6 anytime soon, especially if prices rise further.

If that is the case, I respect that, as you are still getting something more for the large outlay over the next few years. Support and new features is only a good thing as it gives more added value. Although I can also see that perhaps the pro is now being used as an expensive open beta for PS6 and it's AI architecture in that respect.

I guess it's a good thing? I'm not a tech head by any stretch, and whilst I can see a difference in some games between base and pro, I don't think I'd upgrade to a 6 "day one" now from a pro, after the transition from 4 to 5 took so long (admittedly caused by the pandemic), and seemingly concurrent development of upscaling on both systems. Especially to people like me who is in their 40s and eyesight is getting to the point where graphical features will become less and less noticeable, as graphics upgrades are also relatively less noticeable.

Hope that makes sense... just a casual observation - I've no doubt there will be people buying a ps6 in 2-4 years time day one, but will there be enough young people with disposable income and willingness to justify a new machine again, whilst the pro may do (in some situations) just as good of a job?

I personally think it's an interesting discussion, and it could be phrased better than I have, but still...

Re: Split Fiction: Friend Edition Is the Silliest Game Promo We've Seen in Ages

Slideaway1983

@Hyena_socks it's was actually an abridged part of Thomas Ligotti... most definitely not in the realm of Spike's "I told you I was ill", as its more a Kafka-lite; so no £50 or $ etc for that question!

That's a good mindset to have, so keep chugging away - games I've got plenty; friends, for one reason or another; I've not many, but I make do with what I have (very complex story). It's a good job I can live somewhat vicariously through others and think "at least they're having a good day!" 🤣

Re: PSVR2 Gets Enormous Price Reduction Starting March 2025

Slideaway1983

@ManaOwls as a day 1 adopter, I would happily recommend it at the price point with one (or maybe 2) caveats;

1) it makes games such as GT7 a lot better with judging apexes so if you have VR2 compatible games it's a good accessory.
2) If there are games you want to try out (for me some of the smaller, cheaper games, and there's a fair few) then the cut helps absorb the aggregate spend compared to say £530 for the unit alone.

It is a very capable unit, but unfortunately 1st party support is lacking even compared to ps5, unfortunately.
