While it does look good, I still have no interest in this. Originally thought the game was average, at best, when it first came out. All this time later, still don't see the hype in it that it got.
The Canadian price drop was minor, and still not worth it for me since I have a huge backlog as it is anyways and so little playing time these days. So still a hard pass.
@Exlee300p Perhaps, but the market can easily shift at a moments notice if a "leader" screws up badly enough. The next wave of consoles are not out yet, but if Sony pushes their "rules" too far, then some of the bigger names can afford to simply bypass the system for the other(s) with a fresher start. Granted it most likely not happen, but I did say "may not be TOO far fetched". As an example, Microsoft lost a lot of ground simply because of their "always online requirement" they stated during the unveil of the XBox One.
In the end, the players will go where the games are. If they are not with a system, or limited with it, then they have a choice to move to another who has what they want. You can call it a niche market, but it is not just sexualized content that is being targeted, but also blood, violence, and anything else that could be considered suggestive. I am probably wrong on this, but it seems like Sony is going after it harder than what Nintendo did back in the NES and SNES days.
With how Sony has been with their censorship as of late, "power" might be a moot point if developers do not want to deal with it and move on. If they see that they can make the games they want without being forced to compromise for a different system of similar specs, then that may not be too far fetched if they drop Sony to an extent.
Sure it look good, but I still cannot get myself to care much about it in general. When it first came out, I was disappointed in it because of the hype, and my expectations of it being better than VI. Sure I will probably end up buying it anyways, but this time around I come with zero expectations. Just worry on what they ruined to make it playable to todays market.
Being in Canada, I am dreading what the price is going to be up here. If it was released today, $499 USD would be $667 CND.... That would be a huge pass for many here. That aside, the biggest issue I have with what has been revealed so far, is the SDD drive. That, to me, means it is going to be a small drive on launch (anything under 1TB is too small) that will need to be upgraded right away for many who go digital.... At an additional cost.
@Neolit I realize that. Was merely relaying what he said. Was told that he was out there for quite some time after that bloody day. But as I said, I did try to get more info out of him, but with no luck.
Funny how this topic came up while my grandfather was visiting. He was a tank gunner and was there for D-Day in Normandy (until today, all he ever said of the war was that he was there). For the second bit of information he has ever given, after reading over my shoulder of the topic at hand, he said that during his time there, there were never any women on the front lines where he was on either side that he saw. I tried to press for more info, but he just walked away and dropped the subject.
Personally I don't care about it in general, but it does annoy me because I get the feeling EA did this solely because of the current whining (on all sides) of "gender equality", which in itself only seems partial when it suits whatever party involved. While it is "just a game", fine, but do not claim historical accuracies if changes are made to suit current era topics/trends..... Speaking generally here, not about this game specifically.
"Reboot".... Yeah, that sounds real promising....... So basically a retelling of the bad story they originally had. While the game wasn't that bad for me, it was not great either, I was willing to give this a chance. But now, because of how the last few games in the franchise were as well, I have been loosing interest in the Final Fantasy brand in general.
With how Square does their development cycles, I will not be expecting anything about this game for a good 5-10 years at this rate. With that said, only attention I will give SE is on their Octopath Traveler.
I have heard similar stories in the past from small developers. "Sony only really cares about a select few and offers little to no help to the rest. Especially if you are a small studio."
Stories like that have dated back to the PS1, but because that is where the market is/was, they stayed with Sony. I dunno, maybe Sony's ego inflated enough to think the others do not matter to them because they will keep releasing games regardless? If that is true, I believe they will lose that support.
But alas, speculation only goes so far since we will never know the full story of what is really going on between them all. However, if it is true and the 2-1 trend continues, I would not be surprised if NIS moves completely to Nintendo and stops putting games on the PS. Time will tell.
@Matroska Actually, I got both systems back then (Still have them both, as well as my launch copy of FF7). What I am saying is that the hype is mainly from the sole fact that it was the first one on the PlayStation that it got as popular/hyped as it did. If they swapped around 7 for either 8 or 9 in release order, 8/9 would have gotten the same treatment over 7 for the same reason. Claiming that it is "beloved" for that reason does make it overrated.
As for my "opinion over somebody elses", that goes both ways actually. For as many people who claim it is "beloved", there are almost just as many who think otherwise.
@FullbringIchigo I will concede on that fact then. I will admit my own bias as well since I started with the first FF game on the NES and played each one in order as they came out here in Canada. Every person I knew back then who played FF7, and it was not their first one in the series, were not impressed with it.
"one of the most beloved games of all time " .... More like one of the most overrated games of all time. The only reason it gets so much hype is because it is the first 3D version on the PS. If it was not for that, it would never get near the attention that it does now.
@ReanSchwarzer7 Fair enough... IF they allow the change to happen through any of the consoles. But if they make it online only to change, no need for an update. Either way is moot though until they add the option on their servers.
@Turismo4GT As it has been mentioned multiple times for each and every firmware update post, name change updates are ~NOT~ done via system updates. Those additions would have to be done on their actual servers themselves so that it covers your actual account, since it would cover multiple systems, apps, and webpage logins.
Since they have problems with bugs all the time, would that not mean that the AI itself could be plagued by the same issues? A buggy AI trying to find and fix buggy games?
@ShogunRok Yes really. Maybe because I have played so many bad games in the past, this one I find playable. Even if the game itself is a bit crude by todays standards.
There was nothing wrong with this game. There were (still are to this day) worse games that were released. The build-up mode was a nice touch that you don't really see in any other fighting game out there. Would be nice if that could be tweaked and implemented into some of todays games. As for the controls... I have no issues with pulling off any of the moves, even when I last played it last weekend when I was showing my daughter the game (she begged for me to unbury it to show her).
Too bad the North American version of the opening isn't posted
Normal racing games, just don't do it for me anymore. I have not been able to get into one for years now. I guess I find them bland and all similar to an extent. I prefer the combat type of racing games where it is almost anything goes. Mario Kart, some of the older Micromachine's games, Rock 'n' Roll Racing...
I am currently about 35 hours into HZD. But playing it after putting 200+ hours into Zelda, I have found myself being a little disappointed in it. Despite it being a good game. Parts of it feel very limiting and suffers from what most other "open world" games have at fault... Invisible walls blocking exploration. Not to mention for me, not being able to climb anything I want while exploring is disappointing (one of the first things that I noticed when I started playing. Guess I got spoiled in BOTW).
To me, it is basically a more sci-fi version of the Far Cry series with dino-bots, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It does feel a bit over hyped and has a few issues to deal with. But I still welcome the new IP and will keep an eye out on what they do with it.
They should drop the PS3... HOWEVER Sony should also have it setup where any games that we do have in the IGC that we have access to should be on sale (a worth while sale, not the crappy ones that we have had. In all honesty, I have no idea what the current prices are for most of the bigger named titles) for those who want to keep those games permanently. While there are not many, there are a few that I would like to keep.
This way, they can shut down the service and we would not lose anything we wanted to keep. While they are at it, make it the same for the entire account across all three systems. Same for the Vita and PS4. Have a chance where we can permanently buy the games that are already in our lists.
Lets us not forget that Sony would more than likely go with their own proprietary memory cards too instead of the standard SD cards if they went handheld. In turn effectively doubling the price of the unit.
Quite a few games as it is are not even worth the current sticker price, and he wants them to increase? It is bad enough games already cost $80 here in Canada. They go any higher and that will turn away any potential buyers that might have bought otherwise.
@get2sammyb I want to believe that. But the actions of some lately have proven otherwise. They would put the interests of money before all else and care less about what they are doing. While there may be staff who do care, some have come forward and have stated otherwise about projects they have done in the past due to lousy working conditions, schedules, and/or horrible bosses/leadership.
Then there are those who just push out content as fast as they can because they know somebody will buy it. Once out, they ignore what they did do and just move on to the next thing on the agenda for them. . . . . There are many examples out there. (Sorry for the rant, I suck at explaining things at times)
@get2sammyb That quote works with Nintendo because they actually care about their games. Sadly the same cannot be said about some other companies. With some, delayed games are sometimes still forever bad. So I think that saying should be edited to say "A delayed game COULD eventually be good...." for many developers.
My launch PS4 was dying, so did a trade-in for the discount on the Pro while it still worked. Visually, it did clean up the games on my TV, but not by enough to make it a "Must Have" for me. Tested it on multiple sizes and honestly, the only real difference I have noticed from the old system to the new was on the 75" 4k. On the 65" and 52" screens (both 1080p) it was not as noticeable.
