Re: PS6 Manufacturing Scheduled to Get Underway in Early 2027

PoeticJustice

Hmmm... these are the games I've played on PS5

  • God of War Ragnarok
  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • Spider-Man Miles Morales
  • Spider-Man 2
  • AC Valhalla
  • AC Mirage
  • NBA 2K25
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Plague Tale Requiem
  • The Last of Us Part 2

I may have missed a couple but quite a few of these are cross-gen. It just doesn't feel anywhere near enough especially when you compare to the past console generations.

Re: Just Like the Game, The Last of Us 2's TV Adaptation Is Getting Review Bombed

PoeticJustice

@DiggleDog I know what you mean and I respect your perspective - for me it was always very clear what they were going for. They want you to consider the story from Abby's perspective and consider the pain of her loss and how that might cause her to go down the path that she chooses. But the issue is - the execution is objectively poor. I won't repeat my earlier points about the games plot but I'll also add that the supporting cast are boring and underdeveloped. Tess and Bill from the first game were infinitely more interesting than many characters in the second game. I honestly can't even remember their names - an issue I didn't have after finishing the first game once. Given that, and the other issues with the plot, there are some legitimate criticisms of the game that shouldn't be dismissed. There are definitely some strange people that hate the game purely for the LGBTQ side of things but that shouldn't shield the game from those that think there were some big mis-steps in the script. Forbes has written a review that I broadly agree with that I recommend people read. It's called 'The Last of Us Part 2 - A beautiful, Terrible Sequel'

Re: Just Like the Game, The Last of Us 2's TV Adaptation Is Getting Review Bombed

PoeticJustice

@DennisReynolds 😂 if you don't like my opinion then that's fair enough but I thought most of GoT was great TV even the red wedding and Ned's death. The difference is I thought one was well thought out while the other was poorly written. Also, Ellie is kinda boring in part 2 and is devoid of personality. Given the premise of the story it's understandable but it's not enjoyable to experience as a player. It's also understandable that people might not want to take control Abby given her actions. Negative reviews aren't the end of the world. Some people will like this game. It looks great, facial animations are amazing. But the story isn't for me. It's a shame because I did like TLOU1 and Left Behind.

Re: Just Like the Game, The Last of Us 2's TV Adaptation Is Getting Review Bombed

PoeticJustice

TLOU2 wasn't a bad game because of same sex relationships or even 'the death' of a beloved character. The story is a let down because of it's numerous plot holes. For example Elle kills hundreds of people in the game and yet she gains a moral conscious at the very end. Joel's uncharacteristic trustworthiness of strangers was weird too. Plus, The game also forces you to play to play with a character you dislike as a result of her actions and they try to make you understand her side of the story for a huge chunk of the game - which fails when you realise that Abby was aware that her father was going to kill a child and Joel rescued that child from being killed. The punishment for that action seemed broadly out of proportion to the crime. And those are just the issues I can remember... the game was beautiful technically but damn that story sucked...

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows' 'Canon Mode' Makes Fans Ponder the Point of RPG Options

PoeticJustice

I'm totally fine with this, actually. For players like me who prefer the older titles in the series, there's something special about immersing ourselves in a defined character and experiencing how they make decisions.

When games offer too many behavioral choices, it can sometimes dilute the character's identity. The decisions you make as a player inevitably reflect your own personality, which can imprint onto the character. Over time, this can feel repetitive or even boring, as the character loses their unique essence.

Re: Underperforming XDefiant Pours More Misery on Embattled Publisher Ubisoft

PoeticJustice

This, to me, is a continuation of their fall from grace.

They put out these half baked games with good concepts but they consistently fail to make them game of the year quality and seem perfectly fine with 'good enough' and often less than that sometimes.

Assassin's Creed Mirage was a big let down with it's poor voice acting and face animations. Skull & Bones was described as quadruple A (insert laughter). Star Wars Outlaws was buggy and poorly recieved and they litter games with microtransactions.

I suspect it's management that's the issue here but man... UBISOFT SUCKS!

But they continuously get away with it...

Re: Fans Appear to Be Coming Around to PS5 Pro

PoeticJustice

I think both xbox and playstation wish they had set higher prices at the 2020 launch, they were completely sold out for a couple years and it would have meant more profit and slightly lower demand.

I think this is a bit of a test on their part and I personally don't think the PS5 Pro will sell well until they drop the price probably next year or the year after.

But I think they believe they might as well do what they did with the PSVR2, start high and drop when they see a big sales decline

Re: Doubt Cast Over PS5 Pro Actually Releasing This Year

PoeticJustice

I think we need longer cycles before a new console release.

It takes longer to make games now - 3-4 years isn't enough. A new Ghost of Tsushima hasn't even made it out yet.

Another thing is when these consoles launch they tend to be missing a lot of features. Remember the SSD slot on PS5?

I would prefer it if they took there time with it because if PSSR is poor at launch it will really hurt sales.

Re: Rumour: Assassin's Creed Hexe Out in 2026, More Linear Than Open World

PoeticJustice

I hope the powers are tied to a first civilisation artefact. Otherwise, these details are a further betrayal of the original narrative. But I guess that boat sailed long ago...

Didnt feel any kind of developer passion in trying to make sure AC Mirage was the best game it could be either.

I feel it's time for me to give up on AC and Ubisoft which have proved themselves more committed to money than a genuinely game of the year worthy game

Re: Sony Reveals PlayStation Overlay for PC Ports, Supports Trophies, Friends List

PoeticJustice

Not gonna lie 😂 this kinda makes me want to get a PC

I always liked the idea of having trophies and game under the PS ecosystem.

For people that can afford it, they can bypass the technical limitations of the console and have better graphics and performance while still feeling like they're gaming on Playstation.

Only issues are that it still takes quite some time to port the games and I've heard stutter can occur on PCs. Should those issues be sorted than this can be an awesome way for people to up their experience.

Re: Rumour: PS5 Pro Is Up to Three Times Faster Than PS5 as Specs Surface

PoeticJustice

Happy for them to develop this in preparation for the PS6. First gen technology is rarely great, take a look at DLSS and FSR.

Although I probably wont buy one (and I've purchased every PS console since the original)

Development cycles are so long now too that less games come out now. For example during ps3 era ubisoft put out an assassin's every year. Now the last two entries were 3 years apart. Not a big fan of that game these days but still...

This means that they would want to maximise profits by releasing on as many platforms as possible and that means the PS5 will still be very relevant by the time PS6 comes around. Maybe even more so than the OG PS4 is to PS5 today.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available to Download Now

PoeticJustice

I think Low Frame Rate Compensation would have been great for VRR displays.

Not too fussed about themes and folder as I have to keep deleting games anyway since I refuse to pay £300 for a 4TB SSD.

But I tell you, this gen and last gen seem INCREDIBLY slow at implementing software updates.

Re: PS5 Is Entering the 'Latter Half of Its Life Cycle', Says Sony

PoeticJustice

I think a PS5 Pro wouldn't sell too well in 2024. The PS5 isn't flexing all that much.

A DLSS and Frame gen like refresh might do well with hardcore gamers but a casual gamer might not look too hard at it. What they might look at is a smaller footprint, longer dualsense battery and higher base storage. But still feels a bit too early for all that.

2025 seems to be the smarter year to deploy this idea. The existing console has only been readily available in stores for a year or so...

Re: Rumour: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Remake Is Now In Active Development

PoeticJustice

Feels a little odd. I mean as an AC game it had a pretty average story but was far more fun gameplay wise over AC3.

Issue with this is that AC mirage feels very close to AC4 animation wise and it's even visually not that far apart either.

Therefore even if they do remake it I think it will feel more like a remaster in the end.

Which is why I feel this is so weird. Must be a remaster as it makes far more sense.

Re: Hands On: Red Dead Redemption PS4 Port Seems Solid, But Should Be So Much More

PoeticJustice

From my perspective GTAV Online is not all that interesting which is why its an extra downer for me to see all there resources go towards making content for this stuff and not focus on making remakes and new titles.

GTA trilogy was clearly a lackluster effort so then they decided not to put in any effort at all.

Ultimately, they should show the game more respect, it's a masterpiece.

Re: Assassin's Creed Mirage Returns to Series Roots, But Won't Ditch Cosmetic Microtransactions

PoeticJustice

It suprises me that people pay for microtransactions.

You know there was a time when developers added these in for free because they respect the fact that you spent money for a game they worked hard on.

Then came DLC which is fair given the amount of effort, but it was a gateway to what we're seeing today which also creates really over bearing and confusing user interfaces sometimes haha.

Re: Red Dead Redemption PS4 Announcement Gets Slaughtered by Fans

PoeticJustice

What's maddening is that the bad PR doesn't seem to mean anything to them.

They know people will pay for it anyway. It's somewhat true but rather shameless when it's clear they're putting far less effort in than less popular games and publishers.

I mean 60fps and a resolution bump would of avoided a lot of this negativity and they know that.

Re: Red Dead Redemption Out on PS4 This Month, Not a Remaster

PoeticJustice

Well this was the worst possible outcome, not even taking advantage of PS5 hardware by the looks of it. Still, I guess a basic avenue is better than no avenue at all.

This could of really used the upgrade though. It's a classic game that unfortunately will always be overshadowed by the likes of GTA.

It's kinda nutty how RDR is a second class game to them.

What a shame.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Beta Starts Today, Bigger SSD and Dolby Atmos Support

PoeticJustice

Like this update overall. However the VRR LFC or Low Framerate Compensation is missing here and Xbox has that I believe, that needs to be included.

Atmos is nice to have even if games don't support it. This way they are more likely to support it in future and that would be great to experience.

Sound beep thing is preference, I personally would avoid switching it off, as it can be helpful if there are technical problems with the system.

Doesn't hurt to have support for 8tb but again something that probably wont be used by many people in this consoles life.

4TB usually costs a little under the price of the PS5 itself!

Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Remake Reportedly in Early Development

PoeticJustice

The gameplay of black flag was great. Story was a little mediocre but improved upon the flat story of AC3.

My main issue here is of all the AC games that would need a remake, I would probably pick from the earlier titles.

Still I always say - NEVER say no to a remake.

TLOU part 1 price was complained about but eventually the price comes down and becomes far more accessible.

Also I always advise waiting for a game after launch anyway. They're really buggy nowadays and can use a grace period for polish.

Re: Microsoft's Potential Game Plan in 2020: 'Spend Sony Out of Business'

PoeticJustice

Microsoft have found themselves in an unflattering position where internal emails are contradicting their rhetoric in public. It makes them look disingenuous and hurts their image in the gaming community. It will be hard not to scoff the next time they get on stage and claim to be the good guys, that only want good things for all gamers.

Also, the defense that the email was sent 3 years ago is a very weak one. That and that alone may cost them heavily.

While I don't think it's the end of the world if this transaction goes through, it would effectively give Microsoft the green light to continue this spending spree which by its very nature is an admission that they're incapable of creating competitive experiences despite having far more resources.

However, while I agree they are the losing side as of today, it does not mean that they can't turn things around without having to resort to buying all of the big publishers. This is lazy and it provokes and disrupts fans of the games that are affected.

The very fact that they did not immediately announce that call of duty was staying on playstation when the deal was announced shows that causing anxiety in the community is not an issue for them.

Re: Assassin's Creed Mirage Does Its Best Impression of the Old Games in First Gameplay Demo

PoeticJustice

Honestly, it is like the old games, a little too much so and I loved the old ones. The issue here is the animation work looks unchanged from assassin's creed 3. Honestly... go back and play it. Would of loved to see a little more fluidity and variation in the traversal (jumping and landing).

Second thing that is a bit of a let down is the visuals. Is it just me or does Unity look better? A game that was designed for PS4 8 years ago, although to be fair that game looks decent even today!

I'll still buy it cos I loved the old series but hopefully the rest of the game has far superior improvements.

Re: Rumour: The Next Assassin's Creed Game, Rift, Will Be Set in Baghdad

PoeticJustice

@twitchtvpat - that's a fair point - although I'd argue the complete addition of valhalla is £117.99 RRP. I think after somebody pays that kind of money you shouldn't expect paywalls for the little stuff.

And if it is included they should allow a path to purchase them in-game. That would be more fair.

And also remember they waited a month before releasing microtransactions to avoid negative reviews. Slightly underhanded in my opinion.

Re: Rumour: The Next Assassin's Creed Game, Rift, Will Be Set in Baghdad

PoeticJustice

They need to:

  • make their games shorter
  • make maps smaller & more unique
  • make missions & tasks more unique
  • write stronger narratives with a good flow
  • Always make stealth an option
  • Make us use our brains more
  • Make a character and stick to one version, whether it's male or female (since these are supposed to be characters in history it would feel more grounded)
  • make us feel challenged
  • make more animations for attacks and finishers
  • have actual assassin's in the game (basic considering the title)
  • make it less microtransaction heavy

Re: Poll: Is The Last of Us: Part 1 Really a 'Cash Grab'?

PoeticJustice

Ultimately, I think the price is the main problem. But people need to remember... The price will come down - and fast. Look at uncharted: legacy of thieves its been around £20-£25 for some time now and it launched in January.

I think we can expect something similar maybe even less from part 1 as it's an even older title and it's only one game, not two.

Personally, I'll wait on this. Ultimately if you've already played the game there's no point in buying it day one.

Re: Video: In Defence of The Last of Us' PS5 Remake

PoeticJustice

While I get the point being made in this article. There's one thing people haven't really mentioned. The last of us part 2 is still a native PS4 game. It will undoubtedly get a PS5 upgrade and will likely get a part 1 and 2 collection.

I would hold off a bit and wait for that and I'm also betting they'll package both for £70 or £80 probably around the time the tv show is about to come out. Much like the Nathan Drake collection and the uncharted movie.

Part 1 is likely to lose value pretty fast, I mean look at the legacy of thieves which came out at the end of January. It's only £22 now!

Plus both of those games are newer than the last of us part 1.
