No doubt the game has improved visually. But you have to wonder how much better part 1 would look if it was developed in a time where people actually wanted it
@jrt87 an excellent point. I really struggled to comprehend media like IGN who gave part 2 a 10/10. Even if you look past its narrative flaws (and there are a few) you end up with a game that takes too long to complete with characters that you will never root for.
I cared more for Tess in the first few chapters of part 1 then I did for anyone in part 2. The game tries to get you to feel conflicted about about the characters but they fail and you end up disliking them all. And by the last few chapters I actually found myself asking 'when is this going to end?'.
The game looks great and facial animation is second to none but giving the game 10/10 is more than it deserves and the metacritic user score speaks for itself.
In my opinion they missed what made the game so great in part 1. In the second game I struggle to care about most of the characters and even Elle becomes unlikeably monotone by the end.
The dynamic between Elle and Joel was what made the first game as good as it was. The graphics, intensity and story telling was only emboldened by your hope that both of them will get through the challenges they faced.
This remake isn't exactly necessary but hopefully people will remember why part 2 just doesn't measure up to the part 1 classic.
I was really disappointed with the second Last of Us game. I think I played the first game about 4 times and still love it. But the second game deviated too much from what made it so great to begin with. It was really long too for no reason which didn't help.
What I thought was even more strange is the 10/10 reviews everywhere. I think most people would agree it wasn't exactly perfect and that shows on the metacritic page. But hey, you don't have to agree with everyone on everything.
The first game is definitely a classic but a remaster like GTAV (also a 2013 title) would be far more acceptable than a remake.
@DeepSpace5D I agree with this statement - to an extent. While Naughty Dog have the best polish I've ever seen in any video game I would also argue that the games are slower paced and linear which allows for more attention to detail than a fast paced open world game just by nature. Although think about spider-man's dynamic lighting/weather (something neither Uncharted or TLoU has), pedestrians, the massive city, open world events, the many skills/abilities, the swinging... Also I can't really say that Insomniac are any worse at polish. I didn't buy either spider-man game immediately so I probably can't judge this accurately.
Not taking away anything from Naughty Dog though because their stories to me are more memorable. Also face animations are hands down the best in the business. But if I had to say which developer holds the crown it would be Insomniac because of the unmatched productivity.
Such a great studio, dethroning Naughty Dog as the best PlayStation studio is no easy task. But with both speed (and no crunch that I know of), high quality development and post release support, they clearly show that they are not only are the best at what they do but they also care deeply about the games they make. That's all you can ask for from these people.

If only they can remake the story for part 2.

Re: Video: What's Going on with The Last of Us 2's PS5, PS4 Multiplayer Mode?
Seems at this point they'll wait to release it before the TV show like they did for Legacy of Thieves and the Uncharted movie - for the hype.
Maybe with a possible remaster of the original.
