@QiaraIris eh I don’t mind Rebirth’s world. I’m a massive Xenoblade fan and actually think Future Redeemed was the best implementation of exploration in an open world, as it directly ties to character progression. But comparing it to Tears of the Kingdom… I’m not seeing that. Anyway, a tangent! Rebirth is fine, but I don’t get the hate for Ronin’s world when Rebirth is the same thing, that’s my point.

Not sure why reviewers forgive Rebirth’s open world checklist over Rise of the Ronin. I’m playing both and Dragon’s Dogma 2 and can confidently say that Rise of the Ronin’s open world activities are as good as Rebirth’s. And I’d place both those games above DD2, personally. Each to their own, but just found it funny how one negative for one game is a positive for another — when the quality of the activities are similar.

@Loamy after a few hours, found the NPC in the big town who sells the book for 500 rift crystals to change your body type. Finally!

@Nepp67 go and try to start a new character. I’ll wait. And it says you can get an item to change your character but the item doesn’t allow you to change your character’s body type. Who knows how long you have to wait until you get one anyway. They’re only usable at barberies. Have you played the game yet?

No mention of the fact there’s only one save file. If you create a character you’re not happy with in game, there’s no starting again. In fact you have to pay a microtransaction to change your appearance, and that won’t change body type. In a single player game, this is very scummy.

Hey team has the dragon’s dogma 2 review been pulled down because of the microtransactions? Feeling very disgruntled over here. Created a character, wasn’t happy with how they looked. Went to start afresh but you can’t, you only get one save file. Haven’t tried deleting that yet but will do. Only way to change the character now is to pay in the PS Store. But even then you can’t change body type. This is seriously scummy!

When’s the review embargo up? Thought today but read it could be tomorrow if that one German journo is to be believed.

This is epic. Can’t imagine the amount of work this took, so just to say appreciate the effort that’s gone into this team to get it out so timely. First guide I have personally seen like this.

Bought Chaos Gate and King Arthur this week, and loving the former. Infinite Wealth, still chugging with Gran Blue and Helldivers 2 for good measure.

And then the Unicorn Overlord demo dropped and I adore it. Now I’m more excited for this than I am FF7: Rebirth. It’s a lot to get through ahead of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin! Backlog is going to kill me.

Honestly, kudos for using ‘an’ instead of ‘a’ in the headline.

Do I need to play Trails in the Sky? Or can I jump straight in with this duo, then back to Sky then Cold Steel?

Put 100 hours into it on Switch. Have a PC but something about sitting on the couch with this one appealed. Bought it for PS5 and it is incredible. Won’t go back to the Switch version now and looking forward to playing through this one as a charge blade main.

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika I’m good. Plenty of other things to play. Put around 10 hours into it and had been thinking about going back, but the director being a douche is good enough for me to ignore it.

Lol. Wanted to give this another shot but after reading how one of the creators things ‘woke’ is an insult, I’ll delete forever. Tells me all I need to know.

Borderlands 3 and Far Cry 6 should be the other way round. Apart from that, pretty accurate.

Put 10 hours into this already and I am hooked. Combat is amazing, planning a deck and hero synergies is satisfying. The Abbey stuff and dialogue is endearing. Very different to XCom but that’s not a bad thing. Feel free to ask questions!

Anyone know frame rate?

Loved the show. Made me reinstall Cyberpunk after quitting at launch. And.. it’s still very meh. Bland open world, nothing happens between getting to point A and point B I think is my biggest thing. Played for an hour and a half and uninstalled. It’s just not great.

@nomither6 agreed with this. 60FPS should be a benchmark on current gen consoles. Would have been a day one purchase for me, but I can’t support the 30FPS nonsense.

Anyone know framerate on PS4 played via PS5? Is it 60fps? And, played 8 hours on PC but couldn’t really get my head around how to get stronger. The stats were overwhelming - which is a shame because I was loving the story.

Yeah been playing it. I like it but it’s not AAA. As long as you do in expecting that; you’ll have a blast, I think.

Anyone know the answer to this; I’ve got the trial, love it but it’s now £50 on PS Store but £8 at a shop in town. Will progress from the digital free trial transfer to a physical copy? Thanks!

Gave up on this not because of the mechanics but because it was dull and the gameplay bland in general. Has that been tweaked?

@nessisonett yep. As a publisher, we used to have libel budget set for these exact topics. Doubt Push Square has and if they haven’t, they’re going to need to. Used to see things like this all the time.

@iamtylerdurden1 I don’t know what you mean by ‘lowest rated.’ I personally don’t care about ‘ratings’ and having played all the games on the nominee list, RE:8 is my favourite. What’s that got to do with your opinion or anyone else’s?

Only 5 hours into RE:8 and can already tell that yeah, it’s GOTY worthy.

@MightElf-69 yeah download that - I’ve got a PS5 and pressed square, downloaded the anniversary edition and all works fine. Downloaded all the creation club stuff. Now for installing all those mods again….

Picked up Disciples: Liberation. So far, so great.

Love JRPGs but this was a 7/10 at best for me.

Genuine question, why does Push Square report on another site’s poll? Just feels a bit like cheap eye balls when we know this site has the talent to write literally anything else. Unless IGN paid for the space?

Though I’ve played many Tales games, Symphonia is the only one I’ve ever completed. Had Vesperia back on the 360 when it came out and put it down just before the final boss. Never finished it. Then got Zestiria, Beseria and Vesperia on the PS4 and finished none of them. Don’t know what it was but they engaged for a while then fell flat. Which is weird because party based jrpgs are my thing. But, 6 hours into Arise and so far… it’s, ok! It’s captured me more than any of the others. The music though, that’s the best thing so far. Wow.

So exited for this. Question; interest piqued or peaked?

@Slippship huh. After now, 40 hours, I’ve not experienced any of those things. Not saying they aren’t there, just I have had no issues at all like that. In fact, have only just booted it down for the eve and was thinking how incredibly impressed I was by it all. The PS5 version, that is. But even before, on the PS4, it reminded me how much I loved party based ARPGs. And there really aren’t enough. But I’m pretty stoked you at least gave it another shot. Not everything is for everyone, and that’s just fine. Interested to know what you bounce over to next though.

@Slippship yes opinions are great, even if they are disingenuous. That’s not an attack and there’s no need to feel threatened. If it’s not for you, it’s fine, obviously. But saying it’s a PS2 game is wrong, it’s obviously not. That’s all, just facts.

Ah Watchdogs. Now that’s a game I just couldn’t get into.

@Slippship Sure, opinions are great to be vast and varied but saying this is like a PS2 game is disingenuous. It’s more like, the BioWare of better days quality.

@Slippship bought it day one. Loved it and still do love it. But then, I enjoy Spiders releases, Bound by Flame and The Technomancer were sure janky - still flawed but a good A-AA experience. Similar to Outward or Elex, little hidden gems if you give them the time. And now I get to experience this again for PS5.

@ShogunRok what’s the balance of combat/open play to story?

Guilty Gear is my unexpected love this year. Haven’t played a fighting game since Tekken 3 and although I regularly get my butt handed to me - it is a joy to play. Learning, practicing combos. Really is true with this game that the more training you put in, the more you get out of it. Only been playing since Friday but already can see the improvements. Just wish there was something more to work towards than just winning all the time, like; new characters etc. Or new moves. Maybe there is more to it. Either way, loving it! And Chivalry II for that matter. Recently got For Honor and excited to get into the 60fps goodness on PS5.

Either way, a load of games with steep; steep learning curves.

@Ear_wiG neither are square enix’s. It’s just weird how some games get a pass and some don’t. Look at the texture and hair on Elden Ring, it’s worse than original Dark Souls. But that’s ok.

I just can’t believe people are praising Elden Ring’s graphics and slating Final Fantasy Origin. Elden Ring, so far, straight up looks incredibly last gen.

Bought the deluxe version in the UK for £15 or so. That’s cheap for a PS5 game started it on PS4 and got sucked in. Now waiting for tomorrow to continue the journey.
