Re: 'Imagine Being Such a Loser': We've Hit Rock Bottom with Website Dedicated to 'Failing' Games

@bubblyboe Sorry didn’t see your reply til now, something wrong with my notifications. But yeah, when I can go on SteamDB and see the data for myself, I don’t know why I need a 3rd party website to do the same for me whilst being salty about it. The difference with Push Square is simple: it’s respectful and adds context. In other words, it collates and curates the news in a way I find useful rather than ranting and raving.

And is it really a hot take for me to call adults who act like 9-year-olds and sling insults “mouth breathing morons”?

edited to add: Also, Push Square isn’t the Times, it’s a fan site, and the people who run it are fans. It’s fine for them to present their views through the lens of being Playstation enthusiasts. That doesn’t make them shills, and it doesn’t make any sense to expect otherwise. What’s the point of an enthusiast website run by non-enthusiasts?

@Gunnerzaurus @Ooccoo_Jr That’s not really fair though, is it? Marathon is a first party PS game, so, like it or not, how it is faring sales-wise on pc is newsworthy. Doubly so since we don’t have PS5 sales data. I don’t have a dog in this marathon, since I don’t tend to play multiplayer, but I am interested in industry trends and the state of Playstation’s business, and it doesn’t seem logical to expect a Playstation-focused news site to ignore either. Indeed, it’s why I’m a subscriber. And if bringing in clicks by publishing interesting articles helps Push Square thrive, why would any of us be opposed to that?

@hi_drnick Don’t feel bad. The other day someone made a commemt in Dutch, and I responded and used Google Translate to change my reply to Dutch. My comment was removed for using a “foreign language”, while their’s remained. It just means another reader took issue with yours and flagged it. Annoying, I know. Hopefully you see this before it’s removed for “discussing moderation”.

Re: Clair Obscur Dev Withdraws All Legal Action Against Unrelated Comic Book

Disgusting. I have Expedition (Shakedown) 33 sitting on my PS5 as both my boyfriend and boss (not the same individual!) have been urging me to get around to playing it. No such thing will ever happen now.

Imagine trying to bully another struggling artist into believing nobody else has the right to utter “Clair Obscur”, a term Sandfall certainly did not invent. Or perhaps “udder” is the word I’m looking for.

Always happy to have my backlog get a bit smaller! Now back to Forbidden West…

@Northern_munkey LOL I don’t actually know Dutch, just thought it sounded ruder that way.

Also, to further the analogy, I don’t feel one need worry overmuch about the feelings of the goat farmers. It’s on them to convince me why I should spend $40 on their flea-infested product, plus another $10 for the condiments, so to speak. And it’s fine to advise others against eating unregulated goat testicles, even if I haven’t sampled the merchandise myself.

@DanteDevilHunter Right, “Goodbye, Volcano High”. I mean, how discouraging must it be to have the literal creator of GOW play an hour of your game and then take a big public dump all over it to his large audience of GOW fans? I mean, would it really be so hard to just graciously congratulate them on their effort? I bet that would have meant the world to them. These are just young people making the game they want to make and not hurting anybody. If it’s not Jaffe’s cup of tea, maybe he can mentor somebody on how to do it better.

(Sorry to vent it all in my reply to you! I don’t comment much but that guy really pissed me off).

Also, reading back through the comments now, I saw where @LogicStrikesAgain mentions the developer direct with Mega Cat. Just went and watched that, and I have to say it’s pretty poor form for Jaffe to go online and savage them like that. Sure, this project is funded by Sony, but they’re a small indie team doing their best on a passion project, and seem like nice people, and definitely don’t deserve to be dragged through the mud.

If one has critiques of their work, fair enough, but Jaffe just comes off as a schoolyard bully. Maybe when he produces something of value, I’ll be more interested in his opinion (but I sort of doubt it).

@DennisReynolds I always thought it was neat how with E26 they had basically no budget due to the office manager blowing it all on gummy bears, so they couldn’t hire voice actors nor a typist. All the characters communicate solely through interpretive dance. Neat example of working within artistic constraints, though a bit much to take in one sitting, being the longest game in the series at 472 hours.

Never had any desire to play E30, as the experiment in having the whole game take place in a high school cafeteria seemed like pandering to a niche crowd.

I only play AAAA games, and Ubisoft have yet to say if this is one such. Why the silence? I have never played anything less than AAAA in my life, which means Skull and Bones remains the only video game I’ve ever been able to tolerate. Mere AAA Insomniac/Guerilla/Naughty Dog tripe is for peasants 🤮🤮🤮. No AAAA or above, no buy!!1!

@Dezzy70 I think about 11 years from announcement to release is about right. I have such fond memories of that decade I spent getting hyped for Final Fantasy Versus XIII/XV. Brilliant marketing strategy, kept me from buying any other games from 2006-2017, and now it will be up to my grandkids’ grandkids to work through my backlog. I’ve already revoked their college savings accounts so they’ll have more time to focus on gaming.
