@TheFakulty Maybe the game wasn't good because of the mistreatment of staff. Treat your employees like *****, performance is going to suffer. Its quite simple to work out.
Remember, only lawyers win from these lawsuits and how quick this is happening just shows the sheer level of opportunism at play here.
Better to wait for more info on how it will shake out and/or any regulatory action that happens; but ambulance chasers gotta do what ambulance chasers gotta do.
I will be here for God of War Laufey day 1. I love the new God of War games more than the old ones. The older I get, the more I want to see more nuanced character writing probably because I am now more able to appreciate and enjoy it than I was when I was younger and less emotionally/intellectually mature.
Yeah this isn't unique to Xbox (or even the games industry) as it is a feature across the corporate world. My team has lost 5 people in the past year and none of them got replaced, but of course the workload hasn't reduced to compensate. This is a systemic issue, not an Xbox specific issue.
What we really need is for this to happen in a huge market for Playstation, like the EU. No way could Sony call their bluff because it is probably their biggest market.
@TheSingularity Not to mention that it was asked right in the middle of the announcement aftermath when people were still in the emotional response stage and not exactly thinking rationally.
Personally I want more detail about the actual price of the console and what exactly buying games on PS will look like in the future. Until we have that, everything else is just mindless speculation.
Emotionally driven responses to a poll on one site? Yeah I am not about to assume this is representative of the entire PS5 player base. Hell, even if you add in social media and YouTube, you would still have a tiny sample size compared with the entire player base.
Like with politics, be VERY skeptical of ALL opinion polls with their carefully worded questions designed to provoke emotional responses.
At the end of the day games matter more than hardware or formats. There will come a day when a game comes along that will make most of the people saying they will never buy a PS6 go out and buy one because that will be the only option.
I gotta be honest, all it will take for me is Horizon 3 or a new Ghost game.
Who could possibly have known that layoffs would result in lower morale? Oh yeah, anyone with high school level knowledge of business. All the MBAs and other high level qualifications in the corporate executive class and the still know jack sh*t.
@Hyena_socks You won't get much for £1000 in the PC market, unless you are REALLY smart AND lucky in shopping 2nd hand parts and build it yourself. PC hardware is just as badly affected by the RAM and storage situation as consoles are. Hell just look at the cost of the new handheld PCs coming out at well over £1000. The new MSI Claw starts at £1000ish for a 512gb SSD model, rising to 1400 for 1tb.
If you want a fairly future proof PC, it will be closer to 2k
There is an understated aspect to the whole PC Vs console debate, that is PC gaming is quite a solitary experience.
When gaming on PC I was always in the office room away from the rest of the family. With consoles, they are in the living room so I can hang out with my partner while playing, and if she wants the TV I can do the old handheld switcheroo and continue playing AND hanging out. I know there is PC streaming but the PC needs to be running upstairs which isn't an issue with the PS Portal and cloud streaming.
Experience tends to matter more than power or graphics as I get older and being able to hang out with the family as I play is an increasingly important part of the experience.
Nope, I did PC for years, there is a reason I came back to console for 99% of my gaming. I don't want the hassle of dealing with drivers, settings, updates etc. Plus I sit at my desk all day for work, the last thing I want to do in the evening is sit at my desk.
Now my MSI Claw 8 handheld is my only exposure to PC gaming, for everything else there is Switch 2 and PS5 Pro and I ain't moving any time soon.
This is why the conversation needs to shift from pissing and moaning and virtue signalling about plastic disks to a meaningful campaign that improves things for consumers going forward.
@dwayne91 So companies should only make games in IPs the can make money out of because "brand recognition"? That is why we get so many sequels, remakes and remasters and so few new IPs.
Frankly I applaud Bethesda for taking a chance on Starfield, just like I applaud Capcom for taking chances on Pragmata and Kunitsu Gami, and Square Enix on Adventures of Elliot, Octopath etc.
Imagine if CDPR had decided to go straight into Witcher 4 after Witcher 3 instead of Cyberpunk 2077. We'd have missed out on a fantastic game.
@AdamNovice Over management, quite the trend in the modern economy. There isn't a large organisation out there, public or private, that is not over managed.
We are living in an era of zero nuance where everything is polarised and you must be staunchly for or staunchly against something. Honestly, any company being more forthcoming in a toxic environment like that is only asking for more trouble.
All this proves is how unbelievably stupid a lot of gamers really are. Do these people actually believe the people who staff the social accounts have any more power over Sony's decision making than we do? If so, I might have a big shiny bridge I can sell them....
Do yourselves a favour and don't mention "silver linings" around anyone who is losing their job.
These 3000+ people are going into a job market where 1000s of people have already lost jobs and they will all be competing for a dwindling number of positions all because executives need their bonuses and shareholders need bigger returns.
@ThomasHL the stock market is a Ponzi. Money goes to the trend followers. Look at Nintendo stocks over the past year simply because they have publicly expressed skepticism about AI despite having the fastest selling new console ever in its first year.
Remember when people argued that allowing Microsoft to buy up two of the biggest publisher in the business would be good for everyone? That sure aged like milk. These acquisitions are always awful regardless of who does the acquiring.
Typical meaningless exec statement about "difficult decisions" too.
Utter bollocks. The executive classes never think about the effects on the people they lay off just to make the balance sheet look a bit better for shareholders.
@UltimateOtaku91 Its the pandemic hiring glut combined with the acquisitions of Zenimax and Activision Blizzard King. I don't like Gamepass either but that's not the big factor here.
@Fandabidozi2025 Which is why I have said elsewhere that Playstation needs to be designated as a gatekeeper under the EU digital market act and why we need the lawsuit against the store monopoly in the UK to succeed (historically an unpopular opinion round these parts). Politicians in Europe are already sitting up and paying attention after this news so there is hope.

Re: DOOM PS5 DLC Quietly Becomes One of 2026's Best-Rated Releases
The big story for me in that top 10 best reviewed games is the complete lack of a 1st party PS game and the fact most of them are Indies.
The next 10 on the website isn't much better for team blue.

Re: 'Bare Bones' PS5 Black Ops Ports Reportedly Have More Players Than Latest Game, Already Best Sellers on PS Store
That's funny, all I see online about the games is whining.
Further proof of the gulf between the terminally online and the people who just play games I guess.

So if Sony stays silent, social media grifters will fill the gap with their disinformation campaign.
But if Sony do speak up those same grifters will twist what Sony says to mean something completely different in their disinformation campaign.
The phrase "damned if they do, damned if they don't" springs to mind.
Still, at least sites like this will have an endless stream of engagement bait material.
