Re: Free PS Plus Extension for All Members Affected by PSN Outage

Here in the UK we definitely used to be able to buy the subscriptions via a code for example on Amazon or Shop to, or CD keys....... As you suggested you could buy the code and keep it to activate it whenever you were ready. The codes were often a lot cheaper than buying directly from the PSN

But Sony seems to have put a stop to all that now, you can only buy PSN store credit via 3rd party retailers now not a subscription.

If I want to buy an actual subscription, the only place I can do that is on the PSN.

If you can still do it the old way wherever you are then you are very lucky and I suggest you make the most of it whilst you still can lol.

The only loophole I can think of for us is that occasionally, Amazon for example will have a sale on where you could buy £100 PSN store credit for £75, you could then use that store credit towards your next subscription.

(Just for reference £100 is equivalent to roughly $125 at current exchange rates)

That was kind of my point though, for whatever reason it never allows me to stack my subscription.

For a bit of context, when the sale was on in January I was on PS Extra.... the only option available to me was to upgrade to PS Premium for the remainder of my subscription.

I had approximately 10 days left and with the discount I could upgrade for something like 33p.

I had to wait for the subscription to expire before it would let me buy a 12 months subscription at the discounted price.

I have now upgraded to Premium as it was only an extra £2 for the year so seemed almost silly not too.

Maybe now that I'm on Premium and I can't go up to a higher tier as such it might let me stack another year next time there's a sale on..... I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

But trust me I tried everything, other than being able to pay 33p to upgrade the last few remaining days it was impossible to do anything else

I'm assuming your comment about "Relying" on a discount is aimed at me.

Let me assure you that in no way do I rely on a discount.... I have enough disposable income to pay for a years subscription at full price should I need too.

I just found it rather annoying that's all..... I'm sure if you gave the majority of sane people the option of paying the normal price of £120 for a years Premium subscription or paying £77 with a 35% discount they would almost certainly choose the discounted price.

Very much a 1st world problem of course but doesn't make it any less annoying if it effects you personally

Sorry but I found your comment to be unnecessarily patronising and insulting

I don't really play online much myself so the reason I pay for PS Plus (Premium) is purely for the games collections.

I do however agree with you that we shouldn't have to pay to play online.

Or at the very very least there should be some sort of PS Plus alternative option where you can pay a small amount for your online play subscription but you don't get the benefits of the free monthly games or extra Bells and whistles.

As I previously said, it's not something I would be interested in as I enjoy having the "Free" games collections but there definitely should be a cheaper "online play only" option for those that want it.

You would think that, but when the sale was on in January it would only let me upgrade for what remained of my contract... (at the time I had about 10 days left)

I had to wait till it expired on 31st January only then would it let me renew for another year with 35% off.

I was fortunate that the sale ran till 5th February

Not good enough Sony..... come on sort it out!!!!!!

Otherwise I want a refund for time lost (even though it's the middle of the night and I wouldn't be playing anyway)

The only reason I know about this is because I just got out of bed to use the toilet and had a quick scroll on my phone..... it's 4am here so I'm going back to sleep

I'd rather they release it when it's 100% ready than rush it out to appease their shareholders.

That said, if the rumoured £100 price tag turns out to be true I won't be buying it anyway.

Never in my life have I paid more than £60 for a game and I can't see that changing any time soon.

I'll happily wait for it to go on sale

I loved Gran Turismo when it first launched but I fell out of love with it when I tried to delete my progress and start over from the beginning and realised you simply can't do it.

I hadn't played it for over a year and couldn't quite get up to speed with where I was up to so just wanted to delete and start over but for whatever stupid reason they won't let us so until they rectify that I unfortunately won't play it again

Yeah I guess you could read it either way so a bit of clarity would be nice.

Personally though, I'd be amazed if they just suddenly decided to remove all existing PS4 games from the service..... I just can't see the logic in doing that whereas maybe focusing on only adding PS5 games moving forwards does make more sense

@Cutmastavictory

I'm afraid I have to disagree, as someone who in that past has owned both consoles (a PS5 and a Series X) I found them at their core to be very similar. I certainly couldn't say that one performed particularly better than the other anyway.

In fairness my way of thinking could well be down to the choice of games that I enjoy..

With the exception of Nintendo and my love for Mario games I'm not massively into any particular what you may call "Console exclusives"

The vast majority of games I play are titles that release on both PlayStation & Xbox ........, EA Sports FC, PGA tour, WRC rally games, WWE 2K just to give you a few examples.

Don't get me wrong there are a couple of exclusives I play, Astro Bot or Gran Turismo 7 off the top of my head, but in the main most of the games I enjoy playing are technically available on either console so when I say they are similar hopefully you can see where I'm coming from.

It just so happens that for whatever reason my Console of choice has always been Playstation

Very true, I was fortunate at one point to own both (as well as a Nintendo Switch)...

Very much a 1st world problem but I almost had too much choice over what to play, there are only so many hours in the day obviously.

I found with the Xbox, once I'd had my fill of the Forza games I was just playing everything else on the PS5 or Switch so I decided to cash in on the Series X whilst it was still worth something.

Back to your point though, yes there really isn't much (if anything) between them.

For whatever reason I just always have preferred to have the Playstation as my main console

Re: Xbox Boss Wants to Beat PS6 on Hardware Capabilities, Not Necessarily Games

Member_the_game

If we're being honest (all fanboism aside) the PS5 & the Series X are both very similar products...

It's a bit like comparing Sky TV to Virgin..... you can pretty much watch all the same channels, it's just that the operating system is slightly different and if you're used to one in particular the other may seem a little weird and difficult to navigate simply because your brain is used to the way the other one works.

At the end of the day though, for most people it comes down to which set of "Exclusive" games you prefer.

But if Microsoft intend to release all (or at least the majority) of their games on Playstation then it virtually removes the need for anyone to buy an Xbox... Just get a playstation and you effectively get the best of both worlds

@MrPeanutbutterz

I'd be happy with that if I'm honest, I haven't played the first 2 FH games so can't comment on them but out of 3, 4 & 5 I genuinely liked them all...... 4 was my favourite but that could be partly because I'm from the UK.

Long story short I'd still be happy with FH5 as there's nothing else on PS that come close to it.

The Crew Motorfest is probably the closest but just doesn't quite hit the same as the FH games.

You may have worked out from my comment that I did used to own an Xbox.... I sold it because I just didn't use it..... that might have changed if I'd waited till Forza Motorsport released but I didn't feel it was worth keeping just for one game alone lol

Re: PS Plus Subscriptions on Sale, Up to 35% Off

Member_the_game

I'm currently on Extra which also expires on 31st January.

There is an offer there for me, I can upgrade to premium for the remainder of my subscription meaning I can having it for 27p instead of 43p for the 8 days I have left.

It doesn't give me an option for any discount beyond when my current one expires.

If I could renew right now for year at 35% off Premium then I'd definitely be interested

Re: Poll: Will the Switch 2 Compete with PS5?

Member_the_game

Depends what you mean by compete.

If a family can only afford one console for their child then yes they are both competing for sales.

As a graphical power house then no it probably won't compete.

Majority of people will probably have a Switch 2 and a PS5 (or an Xbox)
