I'm the opposite, I hardly ever play online so my subscription is specifically for the "free" games lol
Personally I think the essential tier is great value, especially if you can grab it when it's on sale at various points throughout the year.
In my other post I was simply agreeing with the other person that, for those people who have zero interest in the sweetener games (as you put it) there should be a cheaper online play only option.
It's not something I'd personally be interested in as I've already mentioned, I'm all about the free monthly games but there are plenty of people who probably just want to play their existing game online and nothing more.
I don't play online that much myself but for what it's worth i completely agree that there should be a very basic entry level "online play" only option for those that want it.
It would be interesting to see what the uptake of such an option would be, then compare it to how many people would still opt for the higher options for the "free" games that come with it.
On a side note though, if you're paying £70 you're definitely paying too much, if you buy it around black Friday or maybe end of January it's more often than not on sale with about 40% off.
Last January I managed to get a 12 month PS plus Extra subscription for about £56, when you break it down it's less than a fiver a month so doesn't seem so bad.
Wow, I'm genuinely not having a go at you, each to their own and all that but that just seems completely insane to me.
I've heard of people refusing to play some older games on ps plus because they haven't been updated with trophies (which again seems absolute madness to me)
But wishing you'd never played a game in the first place because some DLC has messed up your trophy completion rate is taking things to another level.
I've never particularly cared for trophies one way or the other but if they can create that level of OCD and obsession maybe you should just start gaming for the enjoyment of it rather than striving for 100% perfection all the time.
By the way please don't take what I've just said too seriously...... I am mostly just joking but your comment really did make me laugh
These comments sections never cease to amaze me... I genuinely thought to myself this is actually a half decent selection, something for everyone but as usual the "No, it's a crap selection" is running away with the votes.
I guess far too many people on here are either extremely unrealistic in what they expect from the service or just plain old impossible to please lol
I notice that it doesn't boast 8K like the original PS5 box did
Seriously though, jokes aside it's good that it's on the box... You can guarantee that there will be at least one person who's bought one without doing any research whatsoever and just assumes they can put their discs inside it
I've always wanted to try the first game but never quite gotten around to it, I actually have it in my games library as it was given away as a free monthly ps plus essential game a while back.
I used to love the old Theme park games back in the day
I completely understand the logic behind why games are released as cross gen, though it doesn't make it any less frustrating when you've spent all that money on the latest console only to discover that you could have played the game anyway on your old one lol.
It's a lesson learned anyway, as much as I love my PS5 and play it pretty much on a daily basis I'll certainly be in no rush to dash out and get a PS6 🙂
I think personally I'll skip the PS6 and wait for the inevitable Pro version of that instead.
If the base PS5 launch is anything to go by, there won't be any exclusive games released for it anyway (at least not to begin with), everything will be cross gen so there won't be any games to miss out on as such.
Sorry I'm but still scared from the PS5 launch, it really annoyed me that I'd spent all that money on a PS5 and they pretty much still released all the same games on PS4 😂.... it's still runs deep
I guess I'm from a different era when you purchased the latest console for the exclusively of those games.... eg NES to SNES, then the N64 or PS1 to PS2
Answer me a serious question.....Do you genuinely think the Pro will be twice as good as the base PS5? and I mean seriously hand on heart do you believe that
Because they've managed to convince plenty of people that it's somehow worth twice the price (or as good as)
Again you seem to have completely missed my point.
I'm not disputing that the games will look slightly better.
My question is, has the technology suddenly got Sooooo much better to justify being double the price of the base model, on which the games already look absolutely fantastic (in most cases).
There was an article on here a few weeks back about Ratchet and Clank and that it's hard to make it look any better because it already looks so good.....to me that just shows that the base PS5 is more than capable as it is, if the developers are willing to put the effort in and optimise to the full.
I'm sure the PS5 Pro will be a fantastic bit of kit but I'm sorry, we can discuss it all day long but you'll never convince me that it's worth almost double the price of the base model
Every single game will be compatible for both the Pro and the base model, a slightly more shiny looking game that you need to forensically analyse to notice the difference, just doesn't justify being double the price in my honest opinion
The difference with the PS4 Pro is that it was only about £50 more than the base model, so as a result it was still very much affordable to your average consumer.
The PS5 Pro is almost double the price of a standard PS5!!!! £389 (digital version) upto £699
Just my personal opinion but for almost double the price I'd want it to do abit more than just make a few existing games look like slightly prettier
I remember owning it on PS1 but can't honestly say I remember that much about it.
Looks pretty cool anyway so definitely interested.
You can never have too many decent 3D platformers
Not everyone is into 1st person shooters or massive open world games, so there's definitely a market for these types of games and Playstation doesn't currently have enough of them IMO (on PS5 at least)
Obviously not the same thing but 3pm football kick offs are banned from being broadcast in the UK, but via the magic of the internet and dodgy fire sticks everyone still watches them
My point is that if they really want to play it, I'm sure they will find a way
Laying my cards on the table, I only skimmed over the article so I'm responding more to the headline.....
I'm currently playing through Astro Bot and I couldn't disagree more.... This has got to be without question one of the most creatively fun (None Nintendo) games that I've ever had the pleasure of playing.
Point being there is plenty of creativity still about if you're looking in the right places
Mind blowing, especially when you consider that Super Mario World on the SNES only sold 20.6 million copies world wide. Also alot of the Mario world games would have actually been packed in with the SNES.
Admittedly alot more people are into video games in 2024 compared to the mid 90's but still, impressive none the less
Currently there is no way to purchase it, however if you subscribe to PS Plus Premium tier you can download it and play it for as long as your Premium subscription is still active.
There are plenty of classic games that do allow you to purchase them without a subscription so it may well change in the future, but for the time being at least it isn't possible to purchase it
I hear all of that and absolutely take on board all of your well made points.
However I'll stand by my original point that I'll simply never understand why anyone (not necessarily yourself but just anyone) would skip a game that they like just because it doesn't have trophies.....
It almost smacks of cutting off your nose to spite your face as the saying goes lol
You probably won't remember but we've actually already had this same discussion a few months ago.... So at the risk of us simply going around in circles I think it's best that we just respectfully disagree on the matter and move on with our lives 😂
I don't see a major issue with it myself as long as the base prices stick to around the £65 - £70 mark on the "official" release date
If people want to pay a bit more to play sooner then that's completely upto them
I won't lose any sleep either way
Thinking about it, it's very rare that I actually buy a game on launch day. Super Mario Wonder was probably the last one and that was this time last year
It's not about separating them, it doesn't have to be one or the other.
My point is that a good game can still be enjoyed regardless of it having trophy support (or not)
Its the flat out refusal to play the thing that I just get my head around.
If it's a game you really like and have fond memories of it, why deny yourself the pleasure of playing it again just because it doesn't have a few trophies to collect lol
Btw I should add that when I say a game you really like, I don't specifically mean you personally, I'm talking about people in general 😂
Locking it behind a Premium pay wall, with no option to purchase individually seems like a silly move.
But not having trophies is a complete none issue.
Some of the best games I've ever played don't have trophies and I'm perfectly happy with them the way they are.
Are they a nice addition to a game? Yes of course.
But why anyone would refuse to play a classic game (if they genuinely love it) just because it hasn't been upgraded with trophy support just blows my mind.
Just another reason for me to drop to Essential when my current plan expires.
Not because I'm particularly bothered about any of these games leaving...... More so that these articles just serve to remind me that I never actually play any of the games on offer anyway.... or very rarely
I hate all this pre ordering online crap we have to deal with these days.
I miss the days when I used to go be able into Game or HMV and put my name down on a list with a £20 deposit to secure whatever the latest console was.
At least then it would stop the scalpers and limit the orders to just one person customer.
Admittedly it wouldn't stop people ordering from multiple different stores / retailers but it still somehow felt a much fairer system
As I said in my other post, if we all loved the same games then world and in particular these message boards would be a pretty boring place (if everyone just agreed with each other all the time)

Nothing on that list that particularly jumps out at me. If I'm honest I barely ever play any of them. Could certainly count on one hand the ones I've played in 2024
I only have Extra because it was on sale at the time when I renewed and I got it pretty much for the price of a years Essential subscription so it was a no brainer.... £64 I believe it cost me so it was only an extra £4.
If I can get a similar deal when I need to renew I'd probably do the same again but if not I'm happy to drop to the Essential tier.

Re: Dino Crisis Fans Hoodwinked as Capcom's PS1 Classic Requires Premium, Lacks Trophies

I've nothing against a game having trophy support, I fully understand the pros and cons.
I'd just never personally prioritize trophies over my actual enjoyment of a game that I love.
At the end of a day a good game is a good game and I'd be a fool to deny myself the pleasure of playing it just because it doesn't support trophies.

Re: PS5 30th Anniversary Orders Screwed Up by Argos in the UK

I was thinking more about Nintendo's next console or looking even further ahead the PS6
I think the Pro is a pretty niche product (mainly due to its price).
Excluding the 30th anniversary editions I doubt it'll be too hard to get to get hold of one
Re: PS5 30th Anniversary Orders Screwed Up by Argos in the UK
@OldGamer999
I believe Smyth's do still let you do that, I've occasionally pre ordered a game with them and it often comes with a free gift of some sort.
Off the top of my head I remember getting a free Red Cappy hat when I collected my Super Mario Odyssey Pre order.
I doubt you'd get chance to pre order a console in there now though because they sell out their allocation so quickly online

If you don't though that's perfectly ok, if we all loved and enjoyed exactly the same games then the world would be a pretty boring place.
If you do enjoy this Astro Bot game though I would definitely recommend you try Super Mario Galaxy at some point.
Of all the Mario games I feel that Astro Bot draws most of its inspiration from that one
