Re: Mini Review: TimeSplitters (PS2) - A Fantastic Foundation with Flaws

LordFunkalot

No way, this is like an easy 9. Whilst I respect the reviewer he has clearly went mad giving this a 5 lol
Whilst 2 is the objectively better game, I always found 3 a bit soulless but Timesplitters 1 is a stone cold classic, one of the best early PS2 games. I picked it up on release a played it non stop for months. Not that I’m nostalgic about it or anything…

Re: Concord Pre-Load Available Now on PS5, Post-Launch Roadmap Revealed

LordFunkalot

I love the fact this is a 1st party, exclusive PS5 FPS. I would have preferred a kill zone/Socom/resistance however I still think it looks interesting and I liked the general gameplay on the beta.

It’s not the greatest game or anything but I liked it, thought it was fun enough for £35 and was interested in picking it up, smashing out a few trophies maybe the platinum and leaving it there when the next game comes along or playing it longer if it’s really decent.

The lack of interest in the beta, low numbers of players and reading the comments on sites like this puts me off and makes me cautious as I’d hate to pick it up and struggle to find games.

I hate all constant internet negativity games get nowadays. Sure it’s not perfect and it’s rough around the edges but not every game needs to be the next greatest thing or next massive tent pole game.

There’s a place for average to good games out there, they’re the sort of games that become cult classics.

Not saying concord will be a cult classic and it could be a load of rubbish (like redfall- but it’s definitely much better than that) , but the beta which I played for about 6hrs with my mate seemed ok and nowhere near as bad as the many comments and YouTube videos would have you believe.

I’ll have to wait and see I guess. It would have probably been different if there was a single player campaign mode.

Re: Training Modes, No Battle Pass, More Details Confirmed for Concord in Post-Beta Q&A

LordFunkalot

@Korgon I’ve just posted what could have been a reply to your post lol. I’m exactly of the same opinion.

Definitely have a point re the community. I don’t mind the price as I enjoyed it much more than I thought. It’s the idea of no one else playing it not long after launch that puts me off.

It’s not great that it’s getting the bad press/such negative numbers either as that’ll push people away too. I really do think there’s people out there that see the bad press/numbers and are turned off immediately without playing it. I nearly was but thought what is there to loose and had a go and enjoyed it more than I imagined.

Re: Training Modes, No Battle Pass, More Details Confirmed for Concord in Post-Beta Q&A

LordFunkalot

I was expecting to hate the beta, but I actually kinda liked it. It’s nothing special but I thought it had some things going for it and liked the really chill vibe of the game and colourful retro art style. I liked the quick round times and it gave me that one more game feeling. Characters were a but cringe but I ended up putting 7hrs into the beta and felt a bit gutted when it went down.

At present it’s a 6/7 at best but I liked it’s an exclusive Sony FPS and new IP (that may be rose tinting my outlook). Wish it did better than it did player wise, if the price point was FTP or £15/20 then I think it wouldn’t be getting as much hate. I’ll be interested to see how it does but I imagine how it’ll play out.

Really wanted a kill zone or resistance reboot/new entry or a modern SOCOM. Sony is sitting on a gold mine of perfect FPS/TPS IPs for a game like this and it’s like they don’t even know it. Looks like they’ll take an L with concord which is a shame.

Re: Concord Beta: How to Access, Start Times, and What You Can Play

LordFunkalot

Looks generic and a bit bland but I’m optimistic and looking forward to playing the open beta. Definitely not prepared to preorder on what’s been shown so far but it’s got potential and decent team behind it. I really hope it’s a fun game and sleeper hit. New IP and Sony first person exclusive, I have my fingers crossed for it to be fun.

Re: Poll: What Was Your Favourite Game from State of Play?

LordFunkalot

@Stevemalkpus - I guess it’s the double fatigue of hero shooter and Marvel. If they were to re-release something like Marvel superhero’s or X-men COTA games I’d have been more excited. It could be ok if it had more xmen or wolverine I guess. Still might give it a look if it’s FTP and plays well

Re: Reaction: PS5 Livestreams Are No Longer Speaking to the Fans Who Built the Brand

LordFunkalot

Old man gamer here, in my opinion the PSOne marketing and lineup was the best. It was in your face, extreme and edgy, pushing the games. PlayStation was everywhere and there was playable PSOnes with wipeout, tekken, ridge racer in nightclubs. It was like an aggressive gaming counter culture and because 3D gaming was new and fresh as was the CD format it was like nothing before it. Most things seem tame, corporate and lame today by comparison lol

Regardless I didn’t really care for the state of play, with the exception of Astrobot. It looks epic, we’ll put together and pure fun. Can’t wait to September

Re: Helldivers 2 Director: Live Service Is Good for Gaming, But Only If It's 'Done Right'

LordFunkalot

I hate live service and battle passes but I love helldivers 2 and have paid for 2 of the warbonds. I can’t recommend this game enough. I think it’s a combo of the fun and addictive game play loop, art style, setting, right amount of limbs blasting off/explosions and the fact its priced right. None of it feels like a rip off and I happily pay for content when it’s this good.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Live-Action Trailer Revealed

LordFunkalot

@KingPev SOCOM was awesome lol. I might have got MW3 if the campaign was substantial and didn’t look like an add on to 2. IMO they used to be so good around the time of the original MW2-BLOPS 2 era (massive cinematic campaign, good multiplayer, spec ops/zombies mode), each entry felt like it really innovated and improved over the last. The new one has potential. Hopefully they put in the effort, have to wait and see

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Live-Action Trailer Revealed

LordFunkalot

I think the Call Of Duty fatigue is starting to set in. I know it’s a cash cow but it will eventually go the way of Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero regardless - I used to love it and other than the MW2 and 1 can’t remember the one I played before that maybe original MW3.

Regardless I think Xbox/Microsoft’s recent purchase of Activision will speed up the process. I have no ill view on any games company buy it’s not exactly in safe hands now. Sadly Xbox/Microsoft don’t know how to look after their companies these last few years and help them grow and flourish. I hope they change it around but it would be an exception to the rule at this point.

Re: 13 New Games Joining PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week

LordFunkalot

@GZoo Me too, I loved the PSOne back in the day. I was die hard PS back then lol. Swapping games in the underground high school gaming scene, good times.

I love that there was so many games out back then and because of the graphical jump so many of them were like nothing we’d ever played before.

Re: Sony Committed to Better First-Party Games, 'Richer' Experiences, More PS5 Users

LordFunkalot

I get the feeling it’s a case of PS5 Pro 2024, PS5 Pro games 2025/26 … simpler games, clean retro PS1 style major franchise IPs with a quicker turnaround and a budget price.

Call it something like .. Sony Platinum games range

Kill zone 1, cleaned up, dual sense support.
Motorstorm, Resistance, Parappa, Twisted metal etc.

Same games just clean, crisp and simple. No online, no micro transactions. £20/$20 each

Release 5-8 over the next year it would print money for Sony and keep old and new players interested. Also would garner interest in existing IPs in time for the next AAAAA release in x years time
